Decluttering and organizing our garage has been on our to-do since we moved to our home two years ago. After having a little one and moving in, everything that didn't make it into the house got jumbled in there. I was ready to tackle this garage but tapped out on organizing capacity. Organizing! Decluttering! Ick! I NEVER look forward to it! But I'm always happy to see Evan. She has helped me so much! I started working with her at the beginning of the year after a LONG spell of caretaking a parent who eventually died just a month before. She had just the right level of sensitivity to show up when I was in such a state, and helped dig me out of a house that was out of control from months of neglect, etc. She's patiently helped me, month after month, make headway through a room piled high with boxes, too many files, papers, clothes, craft materials, etc. With Evan's help, I've reduced the STUFF, and closets and cabinets are now nicely organized. I still have a way to go, but the newly "organized unorganized" stuff feels manageable and do-able--a feeling I didn't have before. She does all this in a gentle, kind, and friendly way. She also pays attention and is very attuned to the way I like things. I find her attitude so helpful for this difficult task that, for me, can be overwhelming and even embarrassing (Hey how come I have all this STUFF!!??). Sometimes I get a brain-freeze and can't sort stuff. Evan is flexible with this and gets me back on track in a gentle way where I never feel forced. She's also been handy with IKEA assembly and hanging things. When we create a good-sized pile of things to donate, she sets up a 'curb alert' such that the STUFF vanishes within a few hours to people who want it. That gives me peace of mind, too. She's also set up posts for me on Nextdoor when I want to sell something. Then all I need to do is coordinate with people who are interested in the stuff! All of this lightens my load and headspace. I worked with Evan on decluttering and organizing my studio from June to October back in 2021. I believe I booked her around 5 times for 2-3 hrs on average. I'm writing this review now because 1) I can still see the impact of seeking organizing professional help today (almost 4 months since I last had her help!) and 2) I finally have more emotional capacity and time to do something I've been wanting to do for a while--share my experience working with Evan! I spoke/contacted 4 different organizers before I decided to go with Evan. First, I was taken by her focus on sustainability. This was very important to me. I wanted this process to create the least waste possible. Evan offers two approaches--she can upcycle and/or donate for you, and she also teaches/provides resources for you to do it yourself. I benefitted from both approaches when it came to letting go of items not needed! I felt very comfortable with her. I was embarrassed to see the mess my place had become. I was also returning from long travels and couldn't feel at home when I was back. While I enjoy cooking, I was totally avoiding my kitchen because I didn't know where to start. I felt guilty, overwhelmed and frustrated all at once. Thank you for your non-judgmental and professional self, Evan! Second, she was the only one that offered a sliding scale fee. I was so moved/touched when we were able to sort payment out. Some of you might know that feeling when you get access to something you didn't think you could. That's how I felt! I also ended up making her services sustainable for me.
