I used to go to Lake Travis and rent Jet Ski from Just For Fun with my friends. But this time was very different, it was with my fiance who was visiting the US for the first time. We arrived to Just For Fun and were welcomed by Albert who quickly arranged everything to us and gave us very clear instructions on how to operate the Ski Boat. We spent two interesting hours and, if we had more time, we would have extended to at least 4 hours. I've never had a bad experience here! The girls in the office are nice and friendly, and the dock hands really know what they're doing with the boats. At busy times it may take longer to get on the boat but normally they are super quick! The barges are fun and the captains always make it a good time!! read more

RIP off - Company DO NOT GO THERE, if you do be CAUTIOUS... This past Oct 2008, I went with a group of 5 youngsters (family). We rented the boat, paid extra for insurance coverage. finally returned the boat and was charged $106.50 extra for PROP damage. This happened to all the 3 groups that rented, right one after the other. They claim the props were good before we left- they make you stoop over into the water and feel a blade.. that does not give a lay person, excited to get on a boat, any clue about what you are looking for. When you return they ask you to feel the prop.. they say it is bent.. to start with a prop has to have a curve in it to work.. any way.. without any additional comments they charge you.. to repair the prop.. they hammer it and immediately put it back on.. ha ha haaaa.. they did that with the other 2 groups that followed us. We were out of towners, not willing to create a scene there.. For 3 months I worked with them to resolve this. They are adamant, and unwilling to correct the situation. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they also gave up. Based on the verbal concversation with the BBB, I am considering to turn them and their dubious practice to the State of Texas Attorney General's Office for business fraud investigations. This is on their record as an unsolved complaint at the Austin BBB. If you choose to go, be ready to get ripped off... The boat was good and the expereience on the lake was good.. but just be prepared to get ripped off. read more

I've rented from JFF for over 8 years. The staff is always helpful and wonderful. The equipment is in good condition. This summer we enjoyed a day on a party barge. That is the way to go. Reserved a tower ski boat for Sunday morning. We checked in quickly, went through a quick boat brief, checked the screw for damage and we were on our way within 10 minutes of arriving. The boat performed great and only early birds were out at that time. We can't wait to get back on the water again. We checked back in after our time expired with no issues. Always fun always friendly , Tuesday's are the best . We had a tower boat and a waverunner . Clean , everything was working on the equipment , always full of gas , I forgot my shoes and they quickly called me and returned them , I am so forgetful . We were late and they were still accommodating. Staff does an excellent job communicating rules and safety procedures , and ask them about restaurants on the lake. The girls inside working the counter are as incompetent as they come. They accidentally kept my driver's license after photocopying it and sent me out on the lake with no ID. I had a difficulty time getting into a party with no ID and the lady (I think she was the manager), said she couldn't believe that anyone could possibly think I was under 21 and started laughing. She is the over weight lady that checks the boats back in from rental. She's nasty mean. The boat was a piece of junk, their bathrooms are disgusting, and they're a rip off. We rented a party boat last year for a birthday party, and it was great. Our Captian was fun and energetic. we had such an awesome time, we want to do it every year now. we came and made our reservations in person, then ate at carlos and charlie's next door. when we came back to get our jet ski, they realized that they rented out more jet skis than they had at the time. no apology was given or any discount offered. lame. that cost them 3 stars. they even told us to go down the pier to another rental location that would likely have a jet ski available right away, otherwise we would have to wait about an hour. we went to the other spot, but the jet skis were older and only sat 2 people, but we had 3. we trekked back to jff, filled out our forms, and waited for someone to return a jet ski. when we finally got our jet ski, one of the guys gave us instructions and forms to sign. the instructions are pretty simple, but he looked at us like we were stupid, and said "y'all can ask questions at any time if you don't understand". the only instructions he had given us so far was to stay 50 ft away from any buoys and 100 ft away from any boats/other water vehicles, so i found his comment to be rather condescending. anyways, once on the jet ski and out on open water, we had a blast, catching some serious air. although we had a great time jet skiing, i wouldn't recommend this business due to the poor customer service. as i read from some previous reviews, they seem to have a problem keeping track of inventory. so, instead of avoiding apologizing for mistakes and asking patronizing questions, maybe they should invest in a chalkboard and some chalk to keep track of how many boats/jet skis they have available and how many they have left to rent out. read more

Spent a saturady renting a pontoon with some friends. We get there, get all set, and the radio on the pontoon doesn't work, and the guy tells us that none of the radios on them work....... It's kinda disappointing when you go to all that trouble, get 10 people together, spend a good amount of money, and right before you head out they tell you the radio is broke, partying in silence is not quite the same...... read more

Love this place... Hanna was an absolute delight. When we left I had my son check the glove box to make sure we had everything... he said we did. When I got home I realized my wedding ring was still in the boat. I called Hanna and she found the ring and held it for me. Awesome CS. She also had my watch but that's another story! The was by far the best water rental experience we've ever had. Their front desk staff were excellent, knowledgeable & helpful. Orientation staff also excellent & kind. The equipment (we rented a ski boat & 2 jet skis) were in top condition & appeared brand new & performed perfectly. Tuesdays are a super treat as you get 2 hours free time when reserving 2 hours. Staff is all teens, it's small, very crowded, and long lines on weekend-even with a reservation. Everyone waits outside in the heat. Bathroom is filthy and steaming hot-must grab a dirty wet rope to open door out of bathroom. But that's the good part. We waited 30 minutes for a pontoon boat that they "forgot" was there the whole time. Got on and the radio didn't work-using our ipod pn boat was the main reason we booked with JFF, so we asked for the next pontoon that came in. Only 2 rear speakers worked on this boat, seats were black with grime, and ANTS were everywhere on the boat! The driver seat was lopsided and the throttle control was so messed up that it was difficult to use. But the worst part was that their pontoon boat engines were only 40 HP! You need at least 80 HP to move at a decent speed. By the time we got out on the lake it was time to turn around and crawl back. People were swimming faster than we moved. The "anchor" was a small round weight that wouldn't hold the boat and their life jackets were the ancient orange kind that were covered with mold.We've rented pontoon boats on 3 different lakes and NEVER had these issues. read more

I first discovered Just For Fun about 7 or 8 years ago, when my friends and I were fresh out of college. We would gather groups of 4-6 and pitch in to rent a ski boat for an afternoon here and there, which was a total blast. I recently returned to Austin after a 5-year absence, and was slightly dismayed to discover that rental prices have increased quite a bit. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was to find a Living Social offer in my email inbox one morning for 1/2 price boat rentals here. I immediately purchased two 3-hour rentals and made reservations. I love being on the water and captaining my own boat, and since I can't afford a private boat, this is a pretty great option. Other than the expense, my only complaint about this place is that it can be slightly disorganized, and the wait to check in and/or out can seem interminable at times. Great day on the lake with friends for my boyfriends birthday two years in a row. We rented a ski boat and inner tube and both times we've had a blast. Actually the first time we also rented a wakeboard and learned quickly that we should just stick with renting the inner tube. Lol the boat was great, the weather was a bit hot but perfect to get in the water... and Just for Fun was very friendly and helpful in getting us safely into the water and back onto land. Their party barge service was excellent as well. Recently, a group of 45 women from my church decided to have a sunset cruise. The drivers of the barge were kind enough to help us with our games while we were docked in the water. And they even went out of their way to drive back to calmer shores to let us off when it was time to go home even though they shouldve docked at a different location. The process was quick, easy, stress free and the crew had us in the boat and on the lake in less than 30 minutes. Kyle and Cavan were awesome! They both were helpful, informative and willing to accommodate our requests requarding additional time, if needed and even upgraded our Pontoon, all at no additional charge...maybe because we were their 3rd and last guests on a chilly Monday afternoon, but none the less, they were great with our entire party. It does not surprise me of it's high score my family of four shot down to Marble falls Texas this weekend to do some jet skiing and on the way we try to contact the two rental companies we use last summer both do not rent jet skis anymore. . We were lucky to be directed to Emerald Point Marina were Just For Fun is located. They very efficient on check in and the service and professionalism in which they performed to finish. Must go place for party boat, pontoon, Ski and jet ski. If you have your own there is a ramp located there but do not know specifics. Great rates, Great time. One and half or so pending traffic. Make reservations very popular but good fleet of everything. If your looking a action fun right down to corporate function it we'll be worth the drive very scenic ride to from up 281 north or back I-35 south. We did two days and a hour a day, we stay in Austin overnight it makes trip even sweeter. Austin's great for everyone . I would round trip though just for the fun my son 17 and daughter19 and had . This review is for a phone call I made to Just For Fun to get information, not an actual rental. I called to get info about what vessels they rent. The call was answered with 'Just for Fun, can you hold?' Click. A simple, 'do you rent kayaks?' The response was a short, 'no, only motorized'. To which I replied, 'can you recommend anyone in that area?' And she replied with a laugh, 'Try Lake Austin, this is more for motorized boats.' Do you know your title as a person that answers phones for a business? Most likely Customer Service rep. (I hope you weren't a manager.) I work on Lake Travis and while there would be a considerable amount of boat traffic there are areas that would be useful to non motorized vessels during weekends when usage would be high and the whole thing during non busy times. It's a lake. It's my discretion where and how I choose to enjoy it. I will be renting this weekend and not from Just For Fun. I also will not be recommending them to any of my customers for their plain rudeness. You're family owned and that's how you treat potential customers? Good luck with that. read more

Wow, this company takes the word suck to a whole new level. I wanted to show some out of town family a true part of Austin and thought what better way to do that than to rent a boat. The place I had rented from before isn't open right now and since JFF is so well known I figured it was safe. Wrong, wrong and wrong. The pontoon boat was in terrible condition (including ripped seats) and why they walked us past nicer boats that were unused before handing us the key to that one is still a mystery to me. They gave so little instruction on how to work the boat, we had to call from the water for help. The first time was to learn how to work the radio, no biggie. The second time; however, was because the boat wouldn't start after we took some time to float in a cove. We called for help and answered all their questions and when it still wouldn't start, they sent someone out to work on it with us still on board. After the guy got there he worked on it, looked at the engine, had my husband repeatedly try to start it and to no avail. Finally he realized the "kill switch" was loose although it didn't look any different at all from when we picked up the boat. It was chance that he bumped it when trying to fix the boat. So now we're up and running again, about an hour later. How would you expect JFF to treat this situation? Well, they did the opposite of whatever you're thinking. We'd hoped they would credit us the hour we lost, but all the manager did was repeatedly tell us it was user error in the most condescending way possible. After arguing for a while they offered to give us 1 hour credit towards our next rental. Uh, we're never going back -no thanks. They refused to credit any time for the day we had so many issues. This was some of the worst customer service I've experienced in a long while. On top of that, the boat sucked! Not only will I not recommend them, I'll do my best to steer as many people clear of that place as I possibly can. read more

Had a great time on one of their double decker party barges. I do recommend getting there earlier than the 30 minutes they say if you have a large group of say 30+. Someone is always running late & ended up wasting some of our time @ dock. Service was good especially considering they were slammed with customers @ our departure time, captains were friendly & very willing to assist with our requests for music, help lighting the grill, & even assistance on how to best climb on the swim platforms. They seemed to be genuinely interested in safety as they seem to be thorough/long with their safety orientations, I guess that's understandable with the amount of alcohol consumed during our trip. I did find out what the typical captain's tip is by asking one of ours. He said it is optional & not required but definitely accepted & usually customary with most groups. He said they usually get $40 @ the low end of a 4 hour trip & up to $100 for a good tip & more for longer trips. We only had $60 in cash since we left our wallets in the cars, but they were very appreciative of that. It seems the going rate is about 10-15% of your cost. He commented the organized, experienced patrons usually had a tip envelope ready to go before they even boarded the boat. i do not know many that are that efficient but maybe?? read more
