First time here last night with friends...a group of four. We sat at the hibachi grill table. There was another group at the table with us, they had five people in their party and that filled the whole table. So I would say no more then nine people at a grill unless you want to be uncomfortable. The hibachi experience was fun! The chefs are pretty comical and are all about giving you a show. They make trains with steam and even cho cho noises out of onions, and at the end fling little pieces of shrimp at you while you try and catch it in your mouth. I swear when we were there, there were at least five birthdays celebrated so they were constantly clapping and singing happy birthday to customers in English AND Japanese....it was actually fun though because you can also get into it and start clapping and saying "iey iey iey" (haha something like that) Food is amazing and the sushi rolls were pretty great too. Jurin has been around for a while and has outlived a number of restaurants (including other sushi places). That's no accident. It's not a large restaurant but we've never had to wait to get a seat. We only go for the sushi, though, and I have seen folks waiting a short time for the teppan grills on occasion. It's not cutting edge sushi, but rather classics done consistently well. I've become enamored with the orange dragon roll recently. It's fantastic. The service is also notable. They go out of their way to make it a nice, comfortable, and fun experience. Will try to rip you off then lie about it. Ordered yaki soba with beef for $9.00 + tax. Menu says "sautéed soft noodle with vegetables and your choice of chicken, beef, or shrimp". No mention of upcharge for meat. When I arrived for pickup they had the total over $14.00. When I questioned them, they told me meat was not included and there was an extra charge for meat. This place is a lot of fun for families and the food is pretty tasty as well. You'll definitely want to make a reservation for the hibachi grill and enjoy the show. The entire staff is friendly and the grill chefs are expert showmen. I had the chicken and steak combo which was good. Not the best chicken or steak I've ever had, but mixed with the veggies and fried rice, and cold Kirin beer, I had a really good time. I was with kids and a senior as well, and they all had a good time too. For those commenting on the noise level, it is definitely not a place for a romantic dinner, since the atmosphere is designed to be lively and upbeat. I usually have a great time but I won't be back for a long time or most likely will never come back to this establishment! We had a reservation for my step sons birthday when we got seated they forgot about the birthday and we had to remind them! It took almost 20 mins to even order drinks! Once they started cooking for us I thought maybe this would turn around nope right after they were done cooking they asked if we needed boxes like Um no I just got my food I would like to eat it first. We were asked this several times in a matter of ten minutes they kept taking dishes and cups that we weren't even done with. They brought out a plate of fruit and a cupcake for my step sons birthday and told him they couldn't sing cause they were short staffed but they had just sang happy birthday to another customer across from us 5 mins before! This is bullshit if you expect customers to spend that type of money with you you should treat everyone the exact same! Do not make up excuses of why you can't sing a simple song to a customer! We did not receive the full experience and since when did you stop taking pictures for birthdays and giving the free meal gift certificate??????? On top of all of this we were rushed out while the other party was basically standing over us we forgot To even use our free meal certificate we had received before! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday yesterday and I never felt so happy. Considering it was my first time at the restaurant, I don't know if the service and food were on point because it was my birthday or if they're normally on point. Nonetheless, my first time was amazing. We sat at the bar and the food was Gucci (goooood). At most restaurants, they serve really cold sushi but it was quite warm and tasty here. And the chef was super nice and funny. The waiters were also very efficient. I would ask for something and BAM someone comes and brings it before I get a chance to even blink. This review is for the Geneva location, as I am not a fan of conveyor-belt sushi, which South Elgin relies on. And in Geneva, most of the action is at the teppanyaki tables (so yes, service can be an issue). That being said, you can get some of the best sushi in the western suburbs at JuRin. Here's the trick: refuse the sushi-order card. The owners/chefs are Sudo and Osada, one of which will be working the sushi bar on any given night. Regardless of who is there, after declining the card, politely indicate that you will rely on him to prepare your dinner (this is omakase-style, for the uninitiated) and get ready to be delighted. We've been going on a regular basis for over fifteen years, and have yet to be served exactly the same thing twice. By the way, there are only six seats at the bar (you do sit at the bar, don't you?), so if you're thinking of going the same night I am, disregard this review. read more

This is my absolute favorite Japanese/Hibachi restaurant. I've never had a bad experience here. I've been going here for years and years. The staff is great and attentive. I love going here for lunch or dinner! The lunch special is a great deal if you want delicious hibachi but don't want to spend a fortune. At lunch you get noodles instead of vegetables. The noodles are good but I am obsessed with the fried rice so I usually ask for double rice instead of the noodles. They still cook in front of you at lunch. It ranges from $9-$13. Dinner time is more expensive but still worth it. I love their chicken teriyaki, shrimp, and steak. I have also gotten sushi from here and it was great. The food and service here are outstanding. It was 30 minutes before closing for lunch time (2pm) but they greeted us with happy smiles. We were seated immediately and our server attended to us quickly. Even though we had just ordered our food, we were given complimentary miso soup and salad. I had ordered a spicy tempura roll (4 pcs) and a dragon roll (8 pcs). My friends thought I couldnt eat it all but I showed them by polishing off both plates! The rolls were very tasty and big but I would have prefered if they had less rice. We had children at our table, so there was some spillage, but our servers quickly came to the rescue to help clean up. You have the option to sit at a table where the chef will cook your food in front of you (benihana style) or you can sit at a table and wait for your food to come to you. This was my first visit but I've been told there are lines out the door to eat here. There was even a row of seats lined by the wall of the restaurant to accomodate those waiting to be seated. I didn't think my night out very well. I decide to have some delicious sushi from Jurin. I failed to even realize that it is Saturday night at 7p.m. The place was packed and the people just kept showing up. I placed my order to go (if my brain would have been working I should have phoned in my order) and the sweet girl that works there told me it would be 20 minutes. Well, I didn't plan this trip very well so I wait.... Within 10 minutes she handed me my food and told me that since I was waiting she slid my order in and asked the sushi chef to rush it. THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB for sushi. It has a great staff (I've only had one terrible experience out of probably 50), they have both cooking and dining tables plus a little sushi bar, and it's a great place to visit if you like sushi but your partner does not. Every time we go here we get the same things: My husband gets the Chicken Teriyaki and I get several sushi rolls. The Teriyaki sauce is delicious and has a perfect texture. The rolls are fresh and delicious and the spicy sauce is addicting. I have NEVER found a place that can compare when it comes to their spicy rolls. I usually get the Spicy Tuna and a Spicy Boston roll-which is a tuna and avocado roll here-other places consider a Boston a shrimp/mayo combo (extra spicy sauce on the side!) and they are TO DIE FOR. Seriously. Their specialty rolls are also awesome but I usually stick with those two because the specialty rolls are so big. The fish is fresh and tasty, is not cut up into a tiny little salad of mayo and junk to cover up the crappy quality, and the rice is fresh and sticky. I LOVE IT HERE. They are decently priced, have THE BEST Miso soup and Ginger salad I have ever had, and are just plain awesome. One tip is to put your name in so you don't wait forever (and you still may wait on a Friday or Saturday night) but getting your name on the list helps. Also, the rolls here are cut into 8 pieces, but if you want less pieces and thus more variety, visit their restaurant in South Elgin (also on Randall Rd.) as they have a moving sushi bar and their rolls are cut into 4-6 pieces so you can get more. This place is a MUST VISIT. No other sushi place can compare in my opinion. read more

This place never disapoints. Though the decor may be a bit out dated, the food is always fresh and delicious. Both sushi and hibachi are prepared delightfully. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. My sister and I had our birthday dinner there this evening and had a blast. There is an art to making sushi and they were most certainly not mastering it. I grew up with Japanese food and this was terrible. Not using real Japanese ingredients in the miso soup (I'm sorry, American mushrooms and chicken soup?) or salad is usually my first tip-off that the restaurant is American-ized... even the green tea was weak. Maybe the high reviews made me have much higher expectations than usual. We brought our 3 young boys and usually a good teppan show caters to the kids with extra tricks or humor... this guy was not only NOT even oriental or asian, but boring and barely cracked a smile. Part of the price of this overly expensive dinner is the show. My boys also did not care for the food, which really in Teppan, is hard to mess up. We did have a spicy tuna roll and again, not impressed with the taste at all. We will not ever come back and we will not recommend this to our friends. We have only ordered the take out sushi. It was ok. My issue was that when we picked it up it was sitting on a counter by the door. It is raw fish! The fridge would have made more sense. After it had been sitting out, we still had the drive home. Not sure how long raw fish can sit out but I would have felt better if it hadn't been siting out. Went there last Saturday for dinner, and was pleasantly surprise at small cozy place. First we order the soft shell crab appetizer which to our surprise was just okay. Next we order 5 different rolls which is kind of small order for use when ordering sushi in my opinion. We didn't order more because it was our first time and we didn't want to be disappointed. I can't remember which rolls we order but they were decent. My knock on this place is that the rolls were not rolled tight. I have had sushi from most of the places in the area, and I will say theirs is pretty tasty, just the rolls were not that tight. The service was okay. Our waitress really didn't give any recommendation considering this was our first time there, but she was very attentive and made sure our glasses were full at all times, and our experience was good. We looked at Yelp for some recommendations bc of the lack of staff insight. It's pretty reasonable on price point. I recommend going to this place if you looking for a cozy, nice relaxed atmosphere if so this is the place. Disagree with the recommendations about sushi and sashimi. I thought it would not be possible to tell if you got bad sushi, until I had it at Jurin. It was clearly previously frozen, bad tasting. Not exactly a slow day on the weekend either so you would think that there would be a fresh supply, but it was terrible and I have not gone back since. Everyone else here -- not many Asian customers, if that's an indicator -- is for the teppanyaki, the tableside show with the knives and such. That's the real draw. There simply is no better of this style within 50 miles. I can't comment on the sushi since I didn't need any bait to go fishing, however the food and the staff are top notch. We have gone here several time and have most of our special occasions here. From day 1 we were treated like we had been coming for years. The manger came over a spoke with us, the staff is attentive and makes sure you have everything you need and the food is far above average. We have been to several restaurants of this style over the years, both in the immediate area and while traveling, and this is by far the best. I have been going to this place since they opened. I am good friends with Sudo, the owner, and the staff at this location. I will be as objective as i can in this review, though, for the benefit of the Yelp audience. In winter and summer, this place can get hot. I wouldn't blame the restaurant management for that, because I'm sure they're on lease, and you can only do so much if you don't have support from your land lord. The food is always TOP-NOTCH. I can vouch for it. NEVER have I had a bad meal at Ju Rin. Their sushi is ALWAYS fresh. Their calamari sautee is the one of the only things I miss since I went vegetarian. Their fillet and shrimp is great. Their egg-yolk sauce topping is TO DIE FOR. I get egg yolk sauce on my Vegetarian Delight dinners that I order when I go Teppan Yaki (that's the cooking tables for the uninitiated). Sushi chefs (sometimes it is Sudo himself, other times it is another guy whose name I don't know, but I know the guy himself pretty well) are REALLY friendly. I love this place. The location that is further north on Randall in South Elgin has a LOT more room, but they have the opposite heat problem. It gets really drafty during winter. PS, their Japanese Pancake (Kakiage, pronounced KAH-KEY-AH-GEY) is REALLY good, too! Fried Tempura rolls are good if you're going sushi. read more

Our favorite sushi place outside of Maui. It's simply the freshest sushi you'll find in the Midwest, certainly better than the pricey/trendy sushi bars in Chicago. The service is outstanding, too. We typically sit at the sushi bar and the chefs always serve up creative and delicious variations on our favorite rolls, etc. Love the barbecue eel, and the salmon and tuna are always outstanding. Mr. Sudo has created a warm, friendly atmosphere where we always feel welcome - he even remembers our favorite drinks. We ordered a few of the unfried rolls, and although they weren't awful, they were poorly rolled. The rice just fell apart. We left feeling bloated not full, and I had a reaction to something. The worst service I've ever had in my life. The host was rude and unprofessional. He didn't even greet us as we walked in. Our server acted like taking our order was a burden. Our friends asked for a sushi menu and they made it seem like that was such an unreasonable question. A couple of my family members were a few minutes late and they told us that they cannot wait any longer to take our orders. It was 15 minutes....after our first drinks were done we basically had to hunt our server down to get other drinks. After my girlfriend and I had ordered drinks he tried walking away without taking any other orders. My friends waited for soy sauce for over 10 minutes after they got sushi rolls. They completely didn't take my order down, and when they read our orders back to us before cooking, I told them they had my order wrong. When our cook called our server over he spoke to him in Spanish and called me a derogatory term. Luckily both my girlfriend and I speak Spanish so we know exactly what he said. Luckily for that cook she didn't tel me until after we left. He's the cook with all the tattoos. And then finally, that same cook was the most boring Hibachi cook in the world. No tricks, no personality, never smiled, and when he was done he basically walked away without saying anything. I'm telling you, do not go here. It's pathetic the way we were treated.
