Flavored to perfection...Brisket is so tender it melts in your mouth & the ribs fall right off the bone!

An absolute MUST STOP along I-35 and now my second visit to West, Texas (not West Texas, which is…read morecompletely different). I've been to the other one and now I am here. And while the other one is great and fabulous, this one is one star better. A huge selection of baked goods, coffee, decor, clothing, drinks and more. The Kissing Pig Cafe has so many food options, too! Mrs. K. has not had a kolache in years and she's now pescatarian which presents certain challenges. It would be awesome if they had some kolaches with just cheese or were sweet, so while I had one with ham and cheese and one with sausage in cheese, she was at least able to enjoy a strawberry and cream danish as well as the always awesome poppyseed kolache. It's possible that a pecan square was purchased for later consumption, too. The self-serve coffee was great and we enjoyed all of this inside at a comfortable table. And after that, more shopping. So much great stuff to choose from here and very, very clean restrooms. If you're overwhelmed by that massive baked goods counter, just ask for recommendations. They'll get you sorted for sure! Excellent selection of kolaches and klobasneky. You can also buy sandwiches. Minus: as on previous visits, I have found that they are often out of poppyseed and prune kolaches. Not the servers' fault but you would think management would be keen to bake more of what sells most. Then there are the sandwiches. If you want pork, you'll get value. But if you want brisket, look out! I've never seen a more miserly portion offered for 13 dollars. I understand that brisket is expensive now. But I still get it at various restaurants and have to say that it was a five dollar sandwich for thirteen bucks. Additionally, the sandwich maker apparently does not know what and order for "moist" brisket means. Mine proved rather dry.

This was just good old fashioned bbq. This place has the soul that Daynes was missing. Classic…read moremeats, well done, classic sides, good portions, and affordable. What more can you ask for? Is this up there with the great bbq places in the state? No. It's not trying to be. Hint hint daynes. Its a cafeteria style, you pick your meal, you go down the line, pick you sides and sauces..and your done. We had the three meat plate, and brisket sandwich plate. The meats on the plate were brisket, jalapeño sausage, and turkey. The sides on both plates were spicy pinto beans, Mac, and green beans. We had regular and spicy bbq. All the meats were good to great. The brisket was good, but missing that bark we like. The turkey was not dry. The best thing here, is when they say spicy, they mean spicy. Like runny nose spicy. Man it was good. The spicy bbq sauce was especially great. So just be careful because the beans were bordering on too spicy. The sausage was what daynes wished it could be. I know I keep ragging on daynes, but come here first, then go there and tell me if daynes belongs on any top list! I would pick still smoking any day! The Mac was delicious. The green beans were out of this world. Why not a 5? Well let's be honest, once you tried the true best in the state, it's hard to live up to it! As great as this place is, it's not snows or franklins or burnt bean epic. We still will definitely stop by when travel again!
