I'm from Iowa and was in Waco for business. This place was recommended to me by a guy I was working with (thanks David). To me, good BBQ means tender, fall off the bone, slooooow cooked meat. And this place nails it. Then I add the sauce... Never first. And the sauce was quite good too. Both the regular and hot versions. This place was hard to spot from the road but I was glad I didn't give up looking for it. It's behind a corner gas station in a strip mall. I was met with a friendly greeting full of southern charm. This is a simple place set up for eating good Texas BBQ. I didn't get the baked potato but saw it and will try that next time. I went with the 3 meat plate consisting of brisket, ribs, and plain sausage. The ribs literally fell off the bone nearly by the force of gravity alone. The brisket was cut with a plastic fork tender. Frekin Gud BBQ says it all in the name! I highly recommend giving this place a try. Every time I'm in this area I try to stop-in for delicious meats and great (homemade) sides. I also can't leave without having a serving peach cobbler - no matter how full I may already be. The family packs are great when we have a big group, but one of my personal favorites are the pulled-pork nachos!!! All the meats are moist and well flavored...we have never been disappointed in anything from this establishment! In fact, we had them smoke our Christmas ham last year and that was excellent too. Took some time to find this place, but it was worth it. Ribs were perfect, moist was moist. Everything went down easy and the green bean were a bonus I did not expect... very tasty. When you walk in you know this place is BBQ serious. The smell immediately makes your mouth water and you can place your order fast enough to prevent the from running down your face. The ribs were perfect and the meat fell off the bone, the moist melted in your mouth. NO Sauce Required, but if you must that was pretty good too. Well worth the annoyance of finding the place. I finally got a chance to drop by and check out Frekin Gud BBQ for lunch. The place is very vlean, service was fast and friendly and most importantly, the BBQ was delicious. I had the beef rib plate and was NOT DISAPPOINTED. Not sure why you changed decision to be our commissary but the show y'all put on the other day was not cool. You acted like you needed to go home real quick and that I should go in and talk to sean. The little gal said he was too busy washing dishes to talk even a minute. Then come to realize you were in kitchen also. Parking in back did not go undetected. Guess it's just as well we are not dealing with you folks since we would rather deal with honest respectful people. I can understand why ya'll have a 3.5 star rating since the last time I ordered from there I received the hard end pieces of brisket, all your sausage is spicy now, and your sauce is way too vinegary. Stumbled on this place completely by accident and glad we did! Was able to feed a family of 7 for $45! That's unheard of for us at a restaurant. At exactly 5 minutes till 11 am on Friday, 5/24th/2019 I stepped into "The Frekin Gud BBQ Restaurant" for the first time ever, and I commented to the lady behind the counter that it smelled really good and was about to place a "to go" order when I was told, "Ma'am we aren't open yet. We still have about 5 more minutes, and she walked away from me and headed back to the kitchen area without saying another word. I thought that she was very rude, and unfriendly. She could have at least taken my order considering it was only 5 minutes prior to them opening. I left and I won't ever be back. They aren't the only BBQ restaurant around. I regret that I didn't get the rude girls name. I sent a message to the Company on Facebook messaging. If she was an employee of the Company I hope she gets reprimanded. I don't wish her, or anyone to lose their job but she needs to lose the attitude. It's definately not good for business. read more

I don't have a problem with smoking, that's your personal choice, but that's just unprofessional and something you don't want to see from your food handlers. The best BBQ in central Texas. From the ribs to the brisket to the pulled pork. It's all the best. I highly recommend eating here. The big freaking sandwich is my favorite. Pulled pork, either sliced brisket or chopped, and your choice of sausage. I recommend the pepper jack sausage. Comes with bag of chips and drink. Great prices and even better customer service. They really know how to take care of there customers and they have the BBQ down to perfection. read more

What a great surprise! Since the recent closing of Tom's BBQ on Bellmead drive, I have been forced to try barbecue elsewhere around town. I'm really picky about it, too. This location is really convenient for me, the food is delicious and at a great price point. Family friendly! I'll eat anywhere in this Health Department inspector's district, too. We went early on a weekday. People were nice. Prices were reasonable. Food was ok. Pulled pork was good. Brisket tasted like the fully cooked brisket you but at HEB. Not a fan of that. Mustard potato salad was a little dry. Onions were a little too big in potato salad. Husband said the bbq sauce tasted like wolf brand chili. Noticed they continued to serve beans even after we took ours back. Cole slaw mediocre. The bbq was ok, nothing fantastic. However the girl at the counter was very condescending. We were not sure if they had spare ribs or short ribs so we asked what kind of ribs they had and she had no idea that there are different ribs out there in the world. Seriously, if you work at a bbq joint at least know what kind of food you have. She then proceeded to go to the back and make fun of us with the other lady who works there. Yummy! It's kind of hidden in a shopping complex, but don't let that fool you. The quality of the food was great, and service was quick. I had the chicken, white potato salad and cowboy beans. The beans were so-so, but the chicken and potato salad were perfect. My table mates had ribs, sausage, brisket, and chopped barbecue, and everyone said their food was great. The price per plate is approximately $10 a person and $8 for the sandwich special. The cobblers and ice cream looked fantastic but we were all stuffed, so desserts will have to wait. read more

This is decent BBQ. I come from Kansas City so we are pretty spoiled when it comes to bbq and there were some things at Frekin Gud that I was disappointed in. The service was great, the two ladies we met were very nice. We ordered the family pack meal with two meats and three large sides. We ordered an extra half pound of shredded pork. The green beans were tasty. I was not a fan of the mustard based potato salad. It wasn't like any other mustard potato salad I've had before; very sweet with dill pickles mixed in. The meats were okay, they were smokey and juicy but other than that, lacking in that "wow" factor. Out of everything, I disliked the original house made BBQ sauce the most. It did not taste like BQQ; it's hard to describe. It had a lot of tomato and vinegar in it, so really, it was like a very fancy ketchup sauce. I am use to those sweet, bourbon or honey bbq sauces. I've had lots of Texas bbq before and I KNOW there are good texas bbq sauces out there, but this one is a miss. This is a great place if you're craving bbq and you want to eat quickly, but you don't want to spend a whole lot. Service was very good, as I said.
