Why can't Austin have one of these? Jim's Crispy Fried is the perfect fried chicken joint. It's not a chain, so you can hope there's a Jim and maybe his family benefitting from the $ you spend, rather than some faceless corporation. It's a simple, casual place, with some random handwritten additions to the menu and a praying hands nod to Jesus, who must be helping, to make the chicken as glorious as it is. The pieces are big. On my recent visit, passing through, the delicious breast could have made a meal for me, but there was no way I was gonna leave that crispy wing all on its lonesome. The fries are of the crinkle variety, and are good though not extraordinary. When I was passing back through (okay, I confess, I timed it to hit Jim's right at lunchtime again!), I ordered the 4-piece chicken tenders, which were fabulous and so big I could only eat two. The third disappeared mysteriously around 3 a.m. and the fourth I am not at liberty to discuss. The yeast rolls are yeast rolls. Not a huge fan of those, but I'll dip anything in that gravy (which always needs some salt, IMHO). The food is so fresh you might have to wait, but it is so worth it. Amazing food, amazing service. I will never go to bushes again, this is my new chicken strip place. Macaroni and cheese is on point.

We were in town for our daughter's volleyball tournament at Baylor. The first night we had barbecue (I'll do a separate review for that). For our second night, we didn't want to travel far from our hotel to have dinner. The reviews for the nearby KFC weren't promising, but the ones for Jim's were impressive. We almost missed Jim's KFC. It's a very unassuming location. My wife ordered the kid's meal tenders, while I ordered the 2 piece mixed with mac and cheese. When my wife took her first bite of her tender, her face lit up like it was Christmas morning. She's a very picker eater, and to see her light up like that was stunning! The chicken is very tender, not overly seasoned, and the batter is just right. The gravy they provide for dipping was fantastic, much like homemade gravy. The mac and cheese was on target, and the dinner rolls were perfect. We ordered the peach cobbler. I liked it, but my wife didn't. She was expecting the peach cobbler we had the night before. The chicken was so good, I had to photograph it and send the pics back to our friends in California. It's a shame we don't this type of fried chicken in California. I was really excited to try this place and it is in my way out of town. The food: the amount of food you get is very generous. I got the 4 piece strips and I think the box weighed 2 pounds with just strips, a roll and gravy. HUGE STRIPS. they were cooked perfectly and moist and not dry at all. I was full on one strip and took the rest to my mother. The bad: there was absolutely NO seasoning in the chicken. None. No salt, pepper, garlic, no nothing. And the batter was the same. If there was no gravy, it would have been completely tasteless. I was really hoping for a salt and pepper packet or something but there was not and I ate the strip hoping for a bite with a little flavor. But it just wasn't there. I went to Jim's Chicken in Bellmead Texas on 12/13/2023. I have never had any issue with their food but on this day I was tired and hungry and I ordered a two piece with okra and a large sweet tea and as the attached pictures show this was totally unacceptable. I will not be returning. They did return all my money and I returned all their food except for the tea I had already drank ( I did return most of the tea ). read more

Anytime Im passing thru Waco, I have to stop at Jim's! I get the chicken strips which are big and juicy as you can see by the pictures attached. The chicken is always hot and has a buttery taste that I love. Chicken comes with crinkle cut fries and roll. ALL items I have tasted at Jim's is GOOD. This is pretty good fried chicken. But when its the afternoon after a long day... and you have to go take a break from work or maybe run an errand... and you're really needing a pick me up that a song on the radio just won't do... go to Jim's and get a fried twinkie and hide the evidence. The rolls could be a little better and the fries are just crinkle cut and pretty terrible, but you come for the fried chicken and it is done well. The only complaint I have is the birds they are using. They seriously must have come out of a nuclear plant they are so big. Would prefer a younger, smaller, more natural chicken. read more

First and foremost the amount of chicken you get for your buck is a steal! I have aten at plenty of chicken places but none come even remotely close. Yes the building could use some renovations but the food makes you forget about all your worries. Chicken is beyond good, moist, flavorful, and honestly the bread rolls are to die for. Just love Jims Krispy Fried Chicken since I was a teenager and going to the location in Hillsboro.

Not as good as I was hoping. I got an #3 order 2pc mix with side, roll, and drink. It was pretty mediocre and nothing special. The chicken was good but a little on the salty end, not too crispy like their name makes it sound. The fries were terrible; they were plain and almost taste packaged. Okra was mediocre and nothing amazing. The rolls were good. The drinks were huge. Service was good and fast but I probably would not return. FYI $5 min for credit card read more

Driving from Tyler, Texas to Austin, Texas on Texas Highway 31, my family stumbled upon this place. We were fried chicken lovers, so we decided to stop. And it did not disappoint. The chicken was cooked perfectly. it was good, hot and juicy. The mashed potatoes and cream gravy was the perfect compliment. And the biscuits served with honey and butter made the meal complete. Poor customer service!! They left out my kids meal, family okra, and rolls. When I called, it took five calls before they answered. I went back and they had the missing items ready, but I asked for a fresh batch of tenders and fries since I had to return for the missing items. I was told that they were only replacing the items left out. I explained that for my inconvenience, I needed the fried and tenders replaced, as they would be cold once I returned home for the second time. I handed him the original order in exchange for a fresh batch. You could cut the tension with a knife. There was no apology for the order or offer of any compensation.
