I wouldn't characterize this place as "luxury." There no lamps to be found--all overhead lighting. There was one couch which was old, worn and uncomfortable. Otherwise, there was a picnic table and chairs in the dining room, and stools at the breakfast bar. No chairs at all. My bedroom had no dresser and the closet was locked, so I put my suitcase on the floor and lived out of it. No toilet paper holder. No holder for bathroom towel. There was no rubber mat or grab bars in the shower. This was tough for me because I am unstable physically. Pluses: extremely friendly, accessible and helpful customer service, very clean, nice decor, amazing location, free parking spot which is unusual in a densely populated city. I think this place is ideal for young people. read more

INSECT INFESTATION, UNCLEAN CONDITIONS. Completely unacceptable for ~$300/night. We arrived to find both living and dead insects throughout the unit--including the bedroom and bathroom. They were present at check-in; we never left doors/windows open. We documented everything with photos and contacted management. The response was even more concerning: the property acknowledged the insects in writing but dismissed them as "harmless" and "seasonal." Regardless, guests should not be checking into a unit with insects throughout the space. There werea also broader maintenance issues: stained sheets/linens, missing bathroom tiles, duct tape around floorboards, and intermittent blackouts that repeatedly knocked out lights and Wi-Fi. We have photos and written correspondence documenting the conditions. Would not stay here again and would not recommend it. read more

I received a small fee a short while after my stay because I didn't sign up all my guests prior to our visit. We only had 4 guests in the building when it slept much more than that. But I accepted that I wasn't aware of the rules and paid the fee. Fast forward 5 months and I was charged another $400 for extra guests with no communication. Absolutely egregious scamming. Jungle House is a standard low cost, low quality apartment rental. All of the appliances, paint, furniture, linens, and tools are super low cost as you expect at most rental apartments. For a place called 'jungle' I expected more than five meager house plants. After I paid in full through a booking agency, they refused to give me access to the property until I gave them a $500 security deposit and tried several times to get me to pay a non-refundable fee to 'insure against damages'. This is deceptive pricing model where they lure you in with a low cost up front and then wait until you arrive at the property to extract more money from you under extortionary conditions. The owners place several cameras around the property that surveil you constantly and will bill you if they see anyone else enter the property. This is very intrusive and makes it hard to relax. Jungle House staff pester you CONSTANTLY with text messages and email. They sent me 28 text messages, 24 emails, and 3 phone calls, regarding a simple 3 night stay in Columbus at a 1 bedroom apartment. Each of their messages, emails, and phone calls were offers to upsell me on extending my stay, early check in, late check out, asking me to refer my friends, and begging for 5 star reviews. They pester their guests endlessly in order to fill their wallets and extract more money from their guests. Very annoying. I would put up with this treatment if they actually provided good service or a high quality apartment, but they do not. I never met anyone from the organization, they never cleaned the apartment, I didn't find it that clean on arrival, and they never offered me any genuinely helpful service. I cannot recommend staying at Jungle House unless it is your only option and you can tolerate the surveillance state, extremely strict rules, and getting bombarded by a sales pitch every 24 hours. read more

Had to replace downstairs shower head myself / upstairs a/c would not blow any colder than 84 degrees during the day. The dryer upstairs did not get hot. The downstairs ceiling fan had no remote ... I booked this property through Hotels.com. The stay itself was fine, but the booking and payment process was not. From the beginning, the host repeatedly contacted me through calls, texts, and emails. Despite Hotels.com clearly advising guests not to make payments or handle communication outside of the platform, the host insisted that I pay a security deposit or a fifty nine dollar waiver in place of a three hundred dollar deposit through external links. This was required before check in. I also received a large number of promotional and reminder emails even after my booking was already confirmed, which made it feel like their system did not properly track reservations. Their intake form collected guest count, adult names, and vehicle information. I entered everything accurately. There is no clear disclosure anywhere about extra fees for unregistered guests. Despite this, after checkout the host attempted to charge my card for additional guest fees. The charge was eventually taken without my authorization, which forced me to file a dispute with my bank. The property is legitimate and the stay itself was not the issue. The issue was the off platform payment pressure, confusing processes, and an unauthorized charge after the stay ended. The way this was handled feels unethical and very sketchy. I would not recommend booking here. read more

I booked the stay and was emailed 5 times, messaged 9 times and called three times within 24 hours without me being able to respond due to traveling. There were ants all over the kitchen counters. We weren't able to cook or use kitchen comfortably due to amount of ants. The top floor had two queens. The home was so old the floors were creaking with every step. The beds were so noisy because of the floors creaking with every move, we could not comfortably fall asleep whatsoever. A man was scoping around the outside and fumbling through the neighbors mail boxes and looking through belongings. House has capacity for 10 people. They charged an additional $245 for two children after the stay on top of regular fees. read more

Disastrous journey!!! Over twenty flies inside the room. From 3:00pm when we check in to 9:pm, I kept asking the property to send cleaner. It took four hours for cleaners to come and the situation remain unchanged. Severely affected my experience!!! I asked the property for refund and they sticked with the non-refundable policy that flies (unlike cockroaches which was written in their policy) cannot be the excuse for refund since it is not written in the "policy." Throughout the conversation, it seems that the property was not afraid of any negative impacts. Even worse, they asked me to open the door just to address the fly issue without even thinking about privacy or security issues. As greedy capitalists as this property is, I sincerely discourage any future reservation for this place. You will not get any possible delightful experience, nor will your stay be comfortable or simple. We should never let this greedy company make any fortune! I stayed at the Jungle House TM in Columbus OH July 2025, and while the property itself looked nice through photos (a lot of defects irl), my experience with the host after my stay was extremely frustrating and felt deceptive. Here's what happened: Manipulated Reviews: The host texted me from a personal number, sending me a screenshot showing they had left me a 5-star review. They encouraged me to do the same, which I did. Later, I found out that they never posted that review publicly -- a manipulative tactic I've since seen reported by several other guests. Bogus Smoking Claim: Two weeks after my stay, they filed a claim alleging smoking in the unit, citing a "smart detector." We don't smoke -- and there were no visible signs of damage or odor. After researching, I discovered multiple other Yelp reviews from guests who reported the same thing: surprise accusations of smoking, paired with invoices for expensive deep cleanings that seem highly questionable. Late Checkout Fee Trick: Almost a month later, they sent another request demanding $300 for a 10:32AM late checkout, even though checkout was at 10AM. That morning, I messaged the host that we were running ~20 minutes behind, and they responded warmly: "Thanks for the heads up! Looking forward to hosting you again " No warning. No mention of a fine. Now, weeks later, they're suddenly enforcing it. After looking into this further, I've found numerous other Yelp reviews describing the exact same tactics: fake 5-star review screenshots, surprise smoking accusations, inflated cleaning invoices, and large late-fee requests long after the stay. I wish I had seen those reviews before booking. If you stay here, I strongly recommend: Keep all communication within Airbnb's platform (not by text). Take photos and videos before leaving. Avoid at all cost, they have hidden fees attached to their "rental contract". We got a really great last min deal and were excited to stay here. Prior to checking in I got a text stating I could get in an hour early for an additional $29 or three hours early for 79 extra dollars this is usually a complementary thing with the most places you stay. On the third night we had 4 additional people over for game night. We had 4 people registered to the place and it sleeps 16. They were visiting. The owner/management called the police and had us thrown out because there was more people than what we registered at the place. Without any refund of the additional day we paid for. In addition the next day my bank account was debited 800$, 200$ for the additional guests in the building (that were visiting, not staying),, 300$ for and unauthorized event and an additional 300$ because one of us accidentally brushed their ring camera and they called it "tampering", no damages, it moved. The line of sight for security purposes was the same. Honestly, I believe they were trying to recoup the money they lost by running a last minute sale on the place. It's honestly disappointing and disgusting that people think they can treat people like this. I wish I would've read other dissatisfied reviews prior to booking so that I knew better. The place is cute, it's old and covered up w paint. I hope that this review stops someone from being taken advantage of by people who literally do not care and will pull money out of your bank account without letting you know. read more

Beware of Steep undisclosed security deposit. Before I even confirmed my reservation but after deducting the money from my account, the Jungle House sent me an email saying I had to pay $300 security deposit within 45 minutes or they would give my room away. I didn't have the extra money or credit so they sold my room to someone else and kept my money. I was visiting because my brother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. What a rip off. read more

A few weeks after the case closed, Sergio requested more money from me with a less amount stating the same exact thing. I wish I had read more reviews of this place and the host other than those on Airbnb. The reviews on Yelp are more accurate with my experience. I stayed at Jungle House in Chillicothe. It was $170ish a night and pets were allowed. So I selected 4 people, 3 pets and the price went up to $250ish a night. Not great, but I continued anyway and paid for it and got my receipt for 4 people. 3 pets for 3 nights. Later I got an email from Airbnb saying there was a resolution filed and I owed Sergio another $200ish dollars for pet fees. The host says Airbnb only charges for one pet for one night. Without having a pricing matrix of how much extra each person and each pet cost (there was no mention of extra people fees), how am I supposed to figure out if what I paid was right? I got a receipt that said 4 people, 3 pets for 3 nights. I assumed they do their math right. I should have known then to just cancel it and stay home for my birthday. After we stayed, contrary to my normal trusting self I thought I should take some pictures of the place before I leave as I was afraid this guy might try to gouge me for more money. Low and behold 15 days after I stayed, conspicuously 1 day after the review period was over, I got a resolution saying that while I was there I was smoking inside and I owed $300 more for extra cleaning fees. Never happened, but how do I prove that it didn't happen? He had "smart smoke alarms" that he said was proof that it happened. It was a duplex and out front the lower tenants, 3 of them, were smoking. Maybe that triggered it? Who knows. After disputing with AirBnB they sided with him. What's one customer to lose who uses their service a couple of times a year? Versus a host who makes them money weekly. So no surprise there. In fact I think this gives some hosts like Sergio a license to gouge people for things that can't be proven. So be very, very careful staying in this place or any owned by this host as there are several. I would never do it again and in fact won't stay AirBnB again. read more

I rented in short north for a weekend in June. The apartment was really cool and at first they were really responsive and we thought the toilet was fixed. The second night the toilet stopped working again. This was not because we did anything, but because, as we were informed, they were waiting on a part to fix it after we left. They offered a late check out but I declined because there was no working toilet. I ended up leaving to find a hotel for me and my friend to stay at due to the toilet not working. We were not informed that they were waiting on a part to fix it until it broke the second night we were there. It took a month and a half of texting and calling to get a manager on the phone to tell me that they would refund me 25% of my stay and that we waited too late in the day to tell them the toilet was broken the second night to have someone to fix it. I wished they let us know the first time they fixed it they were waiting on a part and I could have made other arrangements during the day and enjoyed the rest of my weekend with my out of town friend. Instead, I looked for a hotel in the middle of the night and spent way more money to make sure that I had a working toilet. The place was nice looking and in a very convenient spot. Our grandchildren visited with us there, as it was their mom, our daughter, that died. There were 8 people there at one time offering condolences, during the day. How did they know that? Cameras perhaps? They also accused us of smoking in the unit. We don't smoke. Not as advertised in how the property was listed, not supportive or responsive to addressing safety or any concerns, half the plants are plastic, serious safety concerns with one interior stairway at property. No approved use of rear egress by owners or access to full property. There were safety issues related to lighting, handrails, and egress as well as property location that brought safety concerns. Some areas were not clean nor all amenities fully functioning As advertised. I would look to other options in the area that are hosted by other companies that put their guests first and their sales and marketing after. This is the only negative experience I have ever had with and Airbnb property or it's hosts. Their plastic plants and profits come before the safety and comfort of their clients in my opinion. We had planned on a relaxing New Year's Eve night out and this experience took those hopes away for us both. Lots of road noise, dirty streets, and no where to relax outside of this rental. But hey there is a book where the host where encourages you to read about how awesome he is front and center when you arrive which is indicative to me and my experience of how he puts his priorities in his business practices as well based on my impressions as an "Airbnb" super host, ambassador, and trainer of other hosts.... read more
