Upon entering, the decor is very zenlike and it seemed like it was a great hang out spot! For ordering, they have a self-service kiosk at the front or you can order at the stand where a staff member will take your order. I decided to order the strawberry jasmine tea...all the drinks came in a standard size and I was pleasantly surprised by how large my drink was! The staff also asked about sweetness and ice level and I went with the standard options. Though my drink was aesthetically pleasing (almost looks like a sunset!), it was waaaay too sugary for me where I only ended up finishing half of it. I'd probably go with the lowest/no sugar level next time. They also have limited options for food and coffee where I only saw rice balls and latte/espressos being served on the menu. Junbi just soft opened on Witherspoon in the previous storefront of Holsome Teas & Herbs. They're an LA-based franchise specializing in matcha, and they have a wide range of hot and cold matcha drinks, as well as other milk teas and some small food items like onigiri and chia pudding. A full menu with online ordering is on their website https://www.toasttab.com/junbi-princeton/v3 and they have the option for curbside pickup. I liked my straight up matcha drink ($4): the matcha is the best in the area, and the house-made almond jelly (+$0.50) was smooth and had a strong almond flavor. Sweetness and ice levels are fully customizable, and they also have several non-dairy milk options and a variety of toppings to choose from. Their drinks and store interior are also very Instagrammable, and they've already become super popular since opening. They also have matcha soft serve ($4.50+) and egg tarts ($2.75). I'm actually pretty surprised that Princeton is their first east coast location (and that there have been two new bubble tea places that opened in such a short timespan). First time coming to Junbi! Thanks to my boyfriend who introduced me to this amazingly and wonderful tea shop. The decor inside is bright and gives you a warm welcome when walking in. We walked in and there was a long line but it was pretty quick and next thing you know it was our turn so we didn't wait too long. I ordered an Strawberry Matcha Fresca and Yuzu Dragonfruit Matcha. The Strawberry Matcha Fresca is a good choice if you like sweet drink and very refreshing. Definitely a drink to pick on the menu. The Yuzu Dragonfruit Matcha is fantastic. I've been wanting to check out this place for a while and was really excited to finally be back in Princeton to stop by! I'm glad to say that it's met my expectations!! We ordered on their kiosks and everything was ready in just a few minutes. The overall ambiance was very minimalistic/modern. It was super well decorated and seems like a great study spot (esp with free wifi!) I ordered the yuzu dragonfruit matcha drink with regular sugar, no ice, and boba. It was super flavorful and delicious! I loved that the yuzu and dragonfruit cut down on the strong matcha taste and really blended the flavors together. Excellent tea shop - I tried the mango matcha and there's real fruit. You can adjust the sweetness and ice level on your own ordering through the tablet, so no excuse for messed up order. Surprisingly very roomy and a good place to pop a squat and get some work done or even bring a first date. Parking seems limited though especially with the construction going on as of 10/5/22. Went for Lunch Food - 5/5. Their onigiri is one of the best I've had! Many onigiris have an issue where it is incredibly bland except for the speck of flavor filling in the middle. At Junbi the rice is just the right amount of soft with plenty of seasoning to make every bite delicious. The salmon inside was tender and seasoned well. The matcha has similar vibes to the onigiri with its flavor encompassing the entire drink. I've spent most of my life by Princeton and even now it's hard to imagine that we would have a place like Junbi here! Princeton is quickly catching up with the trendy food places, which means saving myself a trip to Edison/New Brunwick area or North Jersey . The first thing that impressed me was the yellow/green/brown color story and the greenery decor inside the shop. Everything came together for a relaxed and fun vibe. There are a lot of options available, ranging from creamier matcha variations to fruity ones. There's even other items like matcha soft serve, rice balls, and egg tarts. I went on a Sunday at like 5:30 PM, and they had already ran out of the soft serve, so keep this in mind if you're going just for that! I got a Mentaiko rice ball (fish roe inside sushi rice) and a Matcha Mango Fresca. I think the prices were fair with the drink being a little over $5 and the rice ball being around $3.25. The drinks are only one size, and I would compare them to a size large at most bubble tea places. You can also customize the sugar level, ice, milk alternatives, toppings, and extra caffeine shots. I get mild headaches from the espresso shots in Starbucks, and this drink affected me similarly. It's expected because matcha is very strong lol. The drink that I got was very refreshing and not overwhelmed by sweetness or matcha. The rice ball is more of a snack size, and I honestly think it would take like 3 to fill me up. Don't be like me with placing the seaweed on the wrong part of the rice ball haha, but I still enjoyed it. Overall, I can see this spot spiking in popularity, so I recommend ordering ahead of the crowd. Location - ideal location, nice interior design, very appealing but slight distasteful odor when you step inside Ordering - kiosks are a nice touch and makes ordering easy but when you want a printed receipt, you have to get it at the counter but no one is available to help at the counter. They're too swamped in back so I ended up just taking it myself. Products - Matcha drink was decent, slightly watery despite having less ice. Over heard they ran out of boba and had to cancel some orders after us. Boba in our drink needs to be cooked longer so not worth it. Soft serve ice cream flavor is good but it was not ready. There's a gritty texture to it and is mostly melted. Can tell it needs more churning or the mixture ratio is not right for the machine. Customer Service - No one is readily available to service anyone. We were sitting right in front of the cashier and saw our soft serve was done first but not brought to the counter for pickup when done. They let it sit there while they work on the other items in our order. When the drink and bakery item was done, they only brought to the pickup counter 2 out of the 3 items we ordered and lightly whispered our name (and still left the soft serve sitting there). I waited at the counter so that I can ask for my third item (the soft serve) and no one paid any attention to me. Finally one employee gave me my soft serve and I asked for another as it appeared melted especially since it was not served immediately upon making. When I asked for another because it appeared melted, the employee was not kind and said "that's how it's supposed to be" and went back and forth with me until they finally decided to make another one. They then brought both of them to the counter and said "they're the same so you can pick whichever you want." I understand these are students most likely working but a little sincerity and empathy goes a long way in any customer facing role. Also, no napkins anywhere. We had to grab parchment paper behind the register to use as you can tell in the picture. So much to love about this place. One visit to Junbi Princeton was all I needed to have a 10/10 time! I personally ordered the Dirty Matcha--which is essentially an iced Matcha latte with 2 shots of espresso. For any coffee lovers, I highly recommend this drink. Matcha & espresso are two strong flavors, but they just worked so well together. Junbi's matcha blend isn't too overwhelmingly sweet like other places, so it worked so well with the bitterness of the espresso. I'm looking forward to trying their other drinks, as well. The matcha creme puff is an item that has newly been added to the menu. The topping/outside was essentially a Pineapple Bun (Bolo Bao) with the sweet, crumbly top. But the matcha creme made it THAT much better. I feared it'd be overwhelmingly sweet, but it was just perfect. I was excited to try this place because I had started following them when they were still called Sip Matcha. If you're familiar with with JKFilms, I believe some of the team is part of the ownership! My first impression of the drink was honestly underwhelming. As a matcha lover, I was hoping for a drink that was more matcha-forward, but in my opinion, the rose flavor dominated. Nonetheless, it was still a pleasant and sweet drink if you're into floral flavors. It wasn't too sweet, but for my personal preference I would get it 75% or 50% sweet. My friend tried a Lychee Oolong Tea (includes milk) and she seemed to like the flavor. It looked like it came with bits of lychee at the bottom, and my friend noted that it had a strong floral flavor. The boba was not too soft, not too hard, but nothing extraordinary. As for the onigiri, the flight comes with 3 different flavors: mentaiko, salmon, and spam&egg. Unfortunately, they were out of the spam flavor so we subbed with mentaiko. It came in a paper box, all individually wrapped with the seaweed on the side for self-assembly. The salmon and mentaiko had a bit of spice, which added a nice kick. I enjoyed the flavors of both and felt it wasn't just plain. Of the two, I enjoyed the salmon more because of its seasoning. Hopefully next time I'll get to try the spam and egg! I usually skip on the fancy or wild flavors which are already *far from* the idea of *bubble tea*. I usually get with 0 sugar and 0 ice (yeah I'm psycho, or maybe I'm just old). Anyway, the bubbles here have great bounce, they don't fall apart too quick or too slow. Honestly, the bubbles are as close as you can get to some of the BBT places in Taiwan. The Matcha was strong, I really enjoyed it. It didn't taste too powdery, but was blended enough to where it actually tasted like leaves and not fake "essence". Strong, crisp, steeped flavor.
