My friends ordered a chai latte and matcha drink, which they enjoyed. The ham and cheese croquette were flaky and savory. I loved the tabby coach bag cake. Other food options included scones, muffins, and croissants. You could easily order a light breakfast here then walk right into the store. The coffee shop and store are connected. When hospice staff finally ushers us out of her room at 6:20 we are left to collect our hearts and heads and move forward. Mom loved the beach and the sun will be rising soon. But we are short on sleep and need comfort in this time. What says comfort at 6:30 in the morning better than the staff and bagels at Hole in One? We piled in the car to grab our favs and then ate breakfast peacefully on the beach in Ocean Grove as the sun rose. We reflected on life and death and family... And the joy of a soft, toasty bagel. I also had a Red Bull which may or may not seem insane lol If it was any other bagel shop we may not have gone there that morning (there are closer shops to the beach than this one!). I mean who goes straight for bereavement bagels at dawn after 3 hours of sleep? Well the staff at Hole in One are always so great and friendly. And the bagels are possibly the best you can get between Red Bank and Neptune. And their sandwiches? Delicious. You don't get that typical warm Dunkin' Donuts vibe/energy. I went to go add sugar to my coffee and was startled to find that there were no sugar packets in the condiment stand. How can that be? Not a single packet. Plenty of the other sweeteners. In their defense a manager brought them to me as fast as possible when I complained. But just not sure how that could happen in the first place. The servers were friendly but absolutely no spark in their eyes at all. Almost like the walking dead. But not rude, they took my order and made really good food for me.
