Pretty basic, but it's convenient and has wifi. I got the tatchos out of curiosity and they would have been worth it at 1/2 the price.

Checked out this local brewery in Lena of course. It certainly is one of the highlights around…read morehere. Lena Brewing Company has beers but also food to fatten people up. A pretty busy place with locals and people from other areas. There's about what's expected on the menu it seems. Before even coming in there's a smell of barbecue. It's got a pretty full menu. There's a bar in the middle surrounded by plenty of tables. Beers are the main thing of course. It's about $7 a pint. Best one we had of these was the Coldstream Lager. This is a full bodied Bavarian style. A lot of the food is meaty. Brisket and that kind of stuff. Among the appetizers is the Cowboy Caviar. One of the few vegetarian options. This is a mixture of beans, cilantro, corn, jalapeños, red onions, and tomatoes. It's about $16 for the Tex-Mex Bowl. This has avocado, cilantro rice, Cowboy Caviar, marinated cucumbers, pico de gallo, and Thai sauce. Of course an option is to get it with meats added. There's plenty more things including burgers and pork belly tacos among the livestock based foods. For around here it's one of the better places for big crowds. It's got beers and barbecue along with some healthier options. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

My wife's beer was good. Root Beer was excellent (I'm driving)! Bread pudding was just ok. Order at the bad, served at the table. Service was quick and friendly. LOUD!!!

I'm not a snob so I can do a nice place, a dive and anything in between which was how the weekend went. The bar was pretty busy for a Saturday night and I was going to do a fresh patty burger but pizza after pizza was going out the front door so I might rethink my burger. The place is your typical Wi small town bar and not a dive but old looking that is CASH ONLY with a full bar and restaurant. The menu is decent for a bar and they take the food seriously with fresh beef burgers and real pizzas. I had a couple beers and gin tonics which were ok and not top shelf. The place is pretty loud and it was hard having a conversation but it was the place to be. We ordered the 16'' Soprano pizza with sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, fresh mushrooms, onions, green peppers, green olives and black olives. First off they don't skimp on the toppings because they were plentiful and the pizza was really good with a nice saltyness from the green olives that worked so well. I doubt that they make the crust and I could be wrong but it very good because it was not thick or cracker thin but a nice in between that was like a fresh chewy crust from good fresh baked bread. It was weird to bump into the owner of the bar that we usually go to for drinks and pizza like we were cheating on him but it was all good but unexpected. Overall the pizza is good, the drinks are ok and the prices are very reasonable for a casual dinner and drinks and I see why they were packed and the lady's working the bar did an outstanding job keeping up with all the people.

The Biker's Bayou: Water, Whiskey, and Wild Abandon at Poppy's…read moreIn the rugged river-town landscape of Savanna, Illinois, Poppy's stands as a sprawling, high-octane oasis for the motorcycle faithful. It is an establishment that understands the primal appeal of the open road, offering a sensory experience that transitions seamlessly from the roar of a V-twin engine to the cool, unhurried current of a neighboring creek. This is a place where the grit of the highway meets the leisure of a backcountry swimming hole--a rare combination that invites patrons to trade their leather for a bikini and take a dip mid-afternoon. The setup is, by any metric, amazing. The decorations are not merely ornaments; they are a curated tribute to the fringe, creating a visual environment that is as immersive as it is rowdy. The music provides a relentless, high-energy pulse that matches the kinetic spirit of the crowd. It is a room that feels lived-in and unapologetic, a feeling underscored by a stark, pragmatic detail: the availability of Narcan. This silent sentinel on the premises tells you everything you need to know about the potential for excess here; it is a nod to the frontier reality of a destination where the revelry can--and often does--reach a fever pitch. The service staff lean into the time-honored aesthetic of the American roadhouse. The bartenders are a study in high-impact presentation, navigating the floor with meticulously applied makeup and a classic, provocative allure that complements the bar's high-frequency energy. They are the seasoned conductors of a beautifully chaotic symphony. As for the culinary offerings, the food is remarkably good for the genre--honest, heavy-duty fuel that satisfies the appetite without the burden of pretension. It is the kind of sustenance built for a long day of riding and an even longer evening of celebration. Poppy's is not a destination for the faint of heart or the lover of sterile comforts. It is a loud, proud, and watery sanctuary for those who live for the edge of the map. Whether you are there for the music, the memorabilia, or a cooling plunge in the creek, it is a quintessential stop on the Great River Road that delivers exactly what it promises: a wild, unrefined slice of freedom. Both were BBQ Chicken, but one was on Gluten Free crust. Yes, they offer a variety of gluten free items for those that are gluten sensitive. The pizzas were really good. They weren't traditional pizzas, but the way they made it was fantastic, one of the best BBQ Chicken pizza's I've ever had. The sauce was their own sauce with Sweet Baby Ray's added to it. No complaints here. If you're looking for a non-traditional pizza, this one is pretty solid. The second time we went was for a date night. It was a Friday around 7pm, we didn't have any reservations, but were able to be seated with minimal wait. Our server was a nice older lady. She was very friendly. After perusing the menu I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana over Spaghetti. It was good. The breading on the chicken wasn't as flavorful as I've had at other places. The sauce was decent. Over all I thought it was good, nothing to be wowed by, but still good. My girlfriend had the Alfredo Sauce (A signature menu item for which they're known) over Gluten Free pasta. She seemed impressed with the sauce. She thought it was good, much better than other places. The restaurant itself is a nice restaurant with an old charm. The décor is very rural 60's Midwestern super club style. There's old photos of the family and from around Freeport on the wall. There's a piano in the middle of the main room, and if you're lucky Pat, the owner's husband, will play it. He received his B.M. and M.M. in piano from the University of Illinois-Urbana, per their literature. They also have an upstairs area for private parties. Both times I was the upstairs level was being utilized. The only real issue I have with Cannova's is the Parking. They have a very small parking lot, it's not nearly enough for the size of the restaurant. This leaves you have to search for a place to park. Hopefully you get lucky and someone is leaving as you pull in. Other ways you have to park up the street or in a neighboring business' parking lot. Overall, it's a nice restaurant. I'll definitely be back. The next part is informational only. You do with this information as you will. It plays no part in my rating. Let your own personal beliefs and politics us this as you see fit. The Staff wore masks Mask wearing was enforced. There was sanitizer offered. The tables were thoroughly cleaned before new patrons were sat. Social Distancing was not enforced. Limited seating was not done. We were rubbing backs and shoulders with the tables next to us.
