Very good smashed burgers! There's a special seasonal menu that has more choices of dishes. Have the pear and brie flatbread - soooo good! This was the best experience we've had at a restaurant in a long time. We drove 30 mins from Roscoe because my husband's co-worker highly recommended it. It was worth the drive and we'll definitely go back! There were mixed reviews over the years but I didn't see any recent reviews on here so I wanted to let everyone know that it's absolutely a great place currently. The atmosphere inside looked very nice. It was clean and updated with a cool looking bar. They offered outside dining which we didn't see at first but we took the option because it seemed a tad loud inside. The hostess walked us around back where there was additional inside seating before reaching the outdoor dining area. It was much bigger than it looked from the front entrance! It was a nice area, and other than the flies, it was a nice spot. The hostess was great. Extremely friendly and personable. We started off with drinks. I got the strawberry coconut mojito and my husband got the Pickel-Rita. He loved his, mine was ok. I was annoyed because the strawberry pulp kept clogging my straw. Next we got the street corn dip appetizer. It was fantastic. We finished the whole thing. It was unique and very tasty. For our main entree I got the Island Shrimp salad. Flavor was very good, but I couldn't finish the shrimp. I have a very low tolerance for spice and to me, it was very spicy. Nothing in the description indicated to me it would be so I didn't think about asking first. I'm sure it's not spicy for most people and the creamy dressing, mango, cucumbers, and avocado really helped balance it out. My husband got the Texas Twinkie which was a burger on grilled Texas toast with Jalapeño poppers. He thought it was outstanding. I needed something sweet to finish and I opted for the blueberry lemon mascarpone cheese cake. OMG it was amazing! We split it and we both loved it! Highly recommend! We will definitely be back as there were other things on the menu we also wanted to try and it really was a great experience. read more

This restaurant has severely gone down hill over the last couple years. My husband and I just had dinner here for a date night and I wish we had picked somewhere else to eat. We arrived a little before 6pm on a Tuesday evening. There were only three other tables occupied there, yet it somehow took almost an hour to get our food. They only had one employee working both the bar and serving tables. Additionally, I could see the kitchen window from where we were seated, and I literally watched a kitchen worker place the buffalo chicken wrap I had ordered on a plate, not using any type of utensil or gloves. Then our food sat under a heating lamp for almost 15 minutes while the bartender / server ran around trying to help more customers who had shown up. We waited almost an hour for food that wasn't even good. The chicken in my wrap was dry. Every time we needed something we had to stop the server and ask her, because she was the only worker on the floor and didn't have time to follow up with our table. I used to like coming here. The workers were friendly and the customer service and food were way better. I will not be coming back to The Fire Barn any time soon. read more

We've been here a number of times as we have a residence at Lake Summerset. Every time has been good food and good service. The cheese fondue appetizer is excellent and the sandwiches, fish fry, salads are all quality. There aren't many choices in Durand but this is one we frequent! read more

Prices are now crazy here! I was just checking typical similar restaurant prices in Chicago suburbs and Fire Barn prices are comparable to theirs! This is not Chicago, people. Before Covid their prices were quite reasonable. Now it makes much less sense to eat here. However, have had the Sat night prime here about 4 times now. It was exquisite! Best ever! Very tasty! Very lean. Last time though it was super fatty. And not as tasty. Very disappointing. Will probably never get it there again. read more

The beer selection was nice, plenty of lagers and Pilsners on tap. Even a Mexican lager from a brewery in Iowa. I enjoyed my Bacon and Turkey sandwich but the fries that came with it were terrible. Soggy and warm probably because they sat under a heat lamp. The other person I was with also had the same soggy fries. I'd come back, but avoid the "pub fries". read more

Just gotta say I get when things are busy things are busy . I've been here before and it's always a little up and down when it comes to service. What I mean is it's never seemed like fire barn has ever hit on all cylinders when it it comes to staff and staff efficiency.? Food I will say has always been great and never a complaint so please don't take this review as anything towards the quality of their food, it's great . But guys you gotta get your staff situation handled .... I came in tonight with my wife, sat at the bar, ordered a drink and sat there with our menus closed and ready to order for over 25 minutes! Not one acknowledgment to us about an apology for being to busy or "we'll be with you shortly"? Nothing! Being from the service industry we are always taught to read the room and acknowledge our customers. The restaurant was in my opinion 50% occupied and staff was flying everywhere. Just not flying by me and my wife. Again, I get it when your busy your busy but again this has been the only thing I've noticed over the years.... Staff is slow.... Either way so everyone knows I'm not going out of my way to pick on fire barn, I would just like all to know that at the 25 min Mark where my wife and I had our delicious dinners picked, our daughter at homes dinner picked. Our excitement after a long day of work and the treat to go out and actually pay for someone to make us this incredible dinner that according to the menu looked OUTSTANDING! I had to turn to my wife and say "were not waiting anymore"! I walked over to another establishment who had an ATM (fire barn did not have one) To take out $ and to pay for the 1 drink I had which was $7.06 . I gave them exactly $7.06 cash and we left. Also note that while I was gone chasing $ for about 10 min no one and I mean NO ONE ever walked over to my wife and asked if we were ready to order or offer to fill our empty drinks.. All in all a good 35 minutes were spent at fire barn just sitting and looking at an empty drink. So.... In conclusion , my review is to the owner of fire barn. Your food is AWESOME! your restaurant is AWESOME! but you need to get a handle on your staff and how they handle a dinner rush, period. I would have spent over $100 on dinner for 2 tonight. I would have tipped your staff generously as I always do And I would have gone home after a long day with some leftovers.... Instead I went across the street to your competitors and enjoyed a great meal served to me by people who knew I was there.. Hope you can straighten it out. read more

My wife and I were looking for somewhere different for a fish fry on Friday night. We've never been to this place though we only live 20 miles or so away. We found it on Yelp with pretty good reviews. It's located in a tiny town off the busy highway right on the town square. Walking in we found the atmosphere to be bright and tasteful. We were greeted very warmly. The menu was quite varied, but we wanted fish. They had fried, baked or grilled cod. I'd never had grilled cod so opted for that. My wife ordered fried. My grilled was amazing, very tasty, light, and different from any I'd ever had. My wife's was lightly breaded and crispy, very good. She had waffle fries that were good, my augratin potatoes were as good as any I've ever had. Server Theresa was polite, efficient, and fun. A place that is truly worth going out of your way to experience! read more

9/16/16 I was running thru Durand on my way to Wisconsin and,via Yelp!, thought I'd give them a try for lunch . I got a hamburger to go with a twice-baked potato as my side . I sat and watched part of the Cubs game while I waited .. Pretty good food ! The toasted bun was fresh and the hamburger ,cooked medium, was tasty and juicy . The twice-baked potato hit the spot ! A very good lunch .. I may have to run out of route to eat here again but it would be well worth the extra miles to do so .. read more

I've never been disappointed in the burgers here. Tried the Smokey Bleu, the Mushroom Swiss and the BBQ Bacon Cheddar burgers and all were delicious, thick and juicy, served on a brioche roll (perfect for a burger) with a steak knife speared through the center for cutting in half. The fries are good but the waffle fries are fabulous. My grandson tried the Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich, fell in love, and now orders it every time. The Pulled Pork sandwich is pretty good as well. I hear the Fresh Curds are wonderful. Bringing my review down to only 4 stars are the Taco Salad Bowl (over fried/greasy bowl), The Cuban (not much flavor), and The Durand (just a basic sandwich, nothing special). Have tried a couple of pizzas, Roasted Farmer and Chicken-Spinach-Feta, both with thin crusts and tasty, but somewhat oily. The service has always been fast and friendly in my experience, and I love the beautiful décor. read more

Very disappointing Father's Day dinner for our family of 3. We arrived for dinner around 6:45pm, and seated ourselves as the sign states. Even though the hours posted online are until 10pm it seemed the employees were closing down early. No sign posted anywhere about closing earlier, but they were sweeping and turning down customers walking through the door. They allowed one couple after us in for dinner and said they would be the last to be served from the kitchen. We witnessed 4 separate groups of people come in only to be told they were no longer serving food/open. We ordered our food and waited quite some time, and this is when our server went missing the rest of our dinner. Once our food came out, we had no ketchup or mustard as well as empty drinks. The young blonde who brought our food asked if there was anything else we needed and we asked for another round of drinks and the condiments. She then preceded to continue cleaning up, and then stand in the near back area loudly gossiping with a male coworker. After 5-10 minutes we got up and asked the bartender for our drinks and ketchup. While eating our food the male employee was loudly gossiping, including dropping the "f bomb" multiple times loud enough for our 7 year old to hear. Food was ok but fries were room temperature at most, and my Cuban sandwich had half a piece of turkey and minimal pulled pork - would've been alright with bbq but we did not see our server once during the rest of our experience. Cherry on top was servers talking about how they "needed to wait for those people to leave before we can finish sweeping, then we can go".... we were charged $6 for our beers even though their special sign said "$3 drafts" but did not even have the patience to try tracking our server down. As a fellow service industry worker for 10+ years I was cringing inside during this whole experience! Very sad considering it is a very nice looking restaurant, we will not be back nor suggest this to any family/friends visiting us in the area! read more

We arrived around 9:15 am after making reservations for 8 of us on father's day. The waitress was prompt with taking our drink orders but not very friendly. We waited an hour for all of our food. It was brought out little by little after waiting 50 minutes. 2 people only received portions of their meals, one was completely wrong. Biscuits were hard and gravy was tasteless. The venue itself is beautiful and the staff were generous with compensating our bill by 50% but I expected more and was very disappointed. People who came in after us were served their meals before us. Dont know if I will go back... read more

I only give them one star because it's the lowest you can give. They have cut the menu to nothing basically bar food, service was incredibly slow and there were not very many people in the restaurant ordered a basic sandwich and a pizza and it took over for 35 minutes for food to arrive the pizza was hot but the sandwich was cold I sent a sandwich back and 10-15 minutes later I just asked for the check it's really too bad. So if you want good food and a quality experience find somewhere else to go. It's too bad because Durand has so few choices. And the FireBarn use to be the place to go.... Not Anymore!!!!!! I have been here 4 times total. I have given it a fair shot. The 1st time we were not able to be seated as they were full, understandable. The second and third time I entered through the back and sat in the bar area. Servers were somewhat friendly and food was so so. I do like the selection on the menu. Went last night for the last time. Entered the dinning room which was about 5:30, they were not really busy. Hostess seated us in the front. We waited 39 minutes and no one ever came to see if we needed so mush as a water. A 10 top table came in after us and was seated and there order was taken. The hostess saw the whole thing happen. My suggestion is if you are wanting to try this to place enter the back door and sit there. read more
