I thought it was nice. Last week, I visited the location on Broadway Avenue. It's far exceeded my expectations! The variety and quality of the fruit and vegetables was outstanding. It is the best produce stand I have seen in Idaho. I spent $35 on fresh produce, including morel mushrooms, local purple asparagus, plums, strawberries, Rainer cherries, and several apple varieties. I forgot to take a picture of the strawberries, which were the best I've tasted in ages. The last time I saw produce this outstanding was at one of my favorite businesses in Washington state. That business gets a lot of their fruits and vegetables from Charlie's Produce, as does Fred Meyer's. As it turns out, so does Old Fashioned Fruit & Veg. If you're a produce nerd like me, that will mean something to you. The employees were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. Highly Recommended!!! I heard Marina say once something that was roughly this; farming is good for the family and family farming is good for the world. I'm paraphrasing, but I wanted to say "Amen" to that and also to thank her because it certainly is good for the local community. ACCESSIBLE FARM STORE FOR PRE-PICKED FRUIT: It was buying their dried sour cherries from other vendors in the area, both Peaceful Belly's farm store and McIntyre Farm store that introduced me to Cherry Hill. Visiting the farm for the first time in maybe 2019, they had only portable tables set up in a deep gravel over dirt lot and given I have mobility disabilities (I have had multiple sclerosis since college) that make it beyond difficult to walk through that, I was disappointed to not be able to get from parking to the product on tables. Fast forward a few years and they now have built a small farm store on site and although they still have that gravel over dirt lot, they did observe ADA minimums to pour a cement apron on one side of the store with a single parking spot there which makes it possible for all people to get into the farm store on solid surface and shop for sour dried cherries , sour fresh cherries, cherry juice, apples, pears, apricots, nectarines and peaches in their various seasons. U-PICK OPTIONS: U-Pick is offered through all the various seasons. Check Cherry Hill's Facebook page or Web page or call them to be sure they are open when you want to do and what is growing to be picked. DID YOU SAY DONUTS?: the surprise for us as we stocked up on dried cherries, apples, pears and O'Henry peaches a couple of weeks ago was to learn they have fresh made cinnamon sugar donuts at some times. We managed to buy the last half dozen, how they are sold, and came home to share them with the men who mow our lawn and we all thought they were great. SPECIAL EVENTS FALL AND SPRING: There is a corn maize and pumpkin patch in the fall from late September through October 31, so it is going on as I write this review, with special activities for children. In the Spring they hold a cherry festival. With cherry trees and the other fruit trees in blossom at different times, it really is a beautiful place to visit then. NEIGHBORS TO VISIT ON A DAY TRIP: *If you're in Caldwell to visit Cherry Hill, I recommend a visit to Peaceful Belly Farm which is also home to a Cidery. They serve lunch and dinner in their on site cafe on some Thursdays through Sundays during the Spring into Winter. Check their website for more information. It is very special to eat there, you can walk through the farm, and they have an onsite farm store selling their produce and that of neighbors, like Cherry Hill. The "manager" is constantly yelling and snapping, making the entire environment extremely stressful. I go there to have calm shopping time, plan my next meals, and overall have quiet time. This usually isn't a problem as I like to come early in the morning, before it gets busy I hear. However even when it is slow, I still get attitude from certain people there. I've talked to the short blonde old lady a few times, and every single time she is extremely rude to me, or I see her mistreating her employees. I've had problems in the past, last year I bought a rotten watermelon, and after trying to get his attention for FIVE minutes (too busy listening to his airpods) the young man refused to give me a refund. INFURIATING. I cannot fathom coming back ever again. Most of the younger folk are very polite and helpful, but have no time to actually help because they're always being micromanaged by the older ones. Morels and huckleberries in season. And they now have cold beverages on hand! I am always sad when they close for the winter, and look forward to late spring when they open again. About half the vendors were selling crafts and half were selling food. Personally, I'm not interested in crafts, so I'm taking away one star because there were only about a dozen choices for eating. We checked out the market in the morning because since it was going to be hot later in the day. Next time, though, we would rather come at lunch time because there was some lunch-time fare that looked delicious: a hot dog and sausage stand (with very friendly proprietors that were a lot of fun to chat with), a tamale stand, and a trailer that sold "Thai rolled ice cream" for dessert. Another thing different from other street markets I have been to is that there were a couple of stalls where kids were selling food. I'm not sure how the other vendors, whose prices were comparatively high, felt about kids who were basically setting up a lemonade stand with super cheap prices -- but we liked it. brownies for only 50 cents each, while we paid about $3.50 for a scone at a more traditional bakery vendor. There was also some music, although it happened to be a sort of mediocre singer-songwriter. Update: After reading more about the market, I see that it started out as a youth market and the organizers still encourage young people to participate. That's great! Super cinchy! Located at Meridian City Hall Plaza, the Meridian Main Street market is easy to get to. It is bit smaller than other markets, less crowded, more relaxed and I wasn't worried about losing Indigo in a crowd. This market had a little bit of everything. We sampled only a few places and were not disappointed. We got coconut milk and rice pudding (will update when I find out the vendor name) , a soda coffee (so much better than it sounds) from Brew'd Attitude, a pastry (kouign amann) from Gaston's Bakery, and a candle from the Luna Light Project. We listened to live music as we enjoyed our drinks and newly acquired goodies before heading home. If crowds aren't your thing, you like to support small businesses, you enjoy live music and sunshine, then you will enjoy this pleasant market.
