Julie's rentals did refund the money for the sheets I did not receive. But I still did not here anything directly from them. I would still caution people about renting from them, since my experience is that if you have a problem with your rental you will get no resonse from them. read more

We reserved a golf cart 2 months in advance. Delivery was supposed to be before 5pm. We called twice checking and received a rude response in a lack of customer service. She said it would be by 9pm then we got a call saying there was a glitch and they overbooked. No carts available and I have to add her rude phone tone. She did find a replacement after requested but didn't know their name. I do not recommend this rental company. They ruin vacations without a care or remorse. read more

Disappointed in the service response. We had golf cart delivered to our new home that we had been in less than 2 weeks. We had a little rain one night and wake up to find rust from thge cart all ove our new concrete. I have been around lots of golf cart that typically get hose off at the end of the day and they do not bleed rust on the ground. When we called and emailed and sent pictures we got no response. Very rude experience. Every golf cart that they have is broken, or the charge only lasts 45 minutes. The worker we dealt with was very rude and doesn't have good customer service, and the company charges 50$ to take it back to where you are staying if you are broke down on the side of the road/ ask for a new cart. Every year I order my bike from Julie's Rentals while on vacation at Sunset Beach! They are always professional and kind. My bike is delivered to the house and they pick it up at the end of the stay. So far, not good. Reserved umbrella and three chairs along with set up. Called office at 8:15 and asked what time they start setup. "Between 7-8. Your name." Told them. "You reserved with Julie's". Yes. "Oh. There you are. Ok we will have them setup for you ". 10:00. Still nothing. Called again. Well they just got started so not sure how long. I will check and call you right back. Still waiting for call. Will edit in a few Took awhile but David the owner came through. There was definitely a communication breakdown but he was on it. Got us set up and took care of us Thanks David. You turned a 0 to at least a 4 And now my card was charged again although I was told I would be getting a credit. Had to reach out to the owner again. So Julie's currently has holds on my funds while I wait for the credits to be applied. Back down to a 2. The chairs were great. Brand new Tommy Bahama beach chairs. Cup holder. Phone folder. Backpack straps. Pockets to carry towel. That and David's quick responses were the only good out of using Julie's Make sure you get all details as to how the rental of an umbrella and chairs work so you have all details, I.e. that chairs are delivered to your rental. My wife suffered a stroke 3 years ago in 2018, and she was finally strong enough to want to go to the beach this year. Having never been in this position before we searched for accessible beach chairs and Julie's rentals came through. Not only did they deliver the wheelchair to the rental house the instructions were right on the chair via a website. Incredibly daunting and nerve racking, Julie's rentals made something happen we never thought was possible. Bikes are definitely the best way to explore Sunset Beach island, and we have rented ours the last couple of years through Julies Rentals. The bikes have been in pretty good shape and the cost very reasonable. They have no hassle rentals for $35 a week and will even pick up your bike at your rental house location after use. You can also reserve them on-line although I found their website to be somewhat unreliable. David, the energetic young business owner, is both friendly and passionate about his business; his employees however appear somewhat lost, perhaps due to both the seasonal nature of their employment and early time of summer that we visit. For those that have rented in the past, note that the location has moved a few doors down and now also sells coffee, ice cream, and other Island necessities. read more

My extended family rented bikes a few days prior to arriving at OIB and after confirming over the phone with a very pleasant and competent representative, were excited about our vacation. Then...Hurricane Isaias was predicted to hit straight on at OIB. The island closed down before bikes were to be delivered and we were told we would not be refunded. For bikes that were never delivered. Terrible customer service. They relayed this news to me through my sister in law who also rented. Won't be doing business with them again. I update this review with a heavy heart. I have been a fan of Julie's for several years, and my family has always used them for bike and chair rentals. This year the experience was not only lacking, but bad enough that I will be looking at other businesses to supply our bicycles and chairs during our next stay at Sunset Beach. I previously rated them at 4 stars...as you can see, they are now 1 star. First, we always come to Sunset during the same time of the year and we've always gotten nice, well maintained bikes. This year, for some reason, they did not allow their "nice" bikes to be rented because it was "off-season" and we were relegated to a couple older, rusty bikes that were absolutely horrible. The thing is, they rented us two very nice bicycles first...but as we were walking away with them, they called us back and said we could not use those because they were for "in-season". Now, this is the SAME week of the year we always visit, and all of a sudden, it is "off-season" and we get crappy, rusted bikes? Later in the week my wife and her sister rented two "fun cycles" (the low riding ones for riding on the beach). They rent them by the hour, and they seemed pretty laid-back about the time period of getting them back. They rented them for the hour (my sister-in-law even set the timer on her blackberry), and when the hour was finished they brought them back. They may have been something like 3 minutes past an hour, but the staff at Julie's acted like my wife and her sister owed them for two full hours and gave them a tremendous amount of grief. Eventually, they only charged them for an hour, but the damage had been done. Lastly, it appears the wonderful customer service and helpful staff have been replaced by a "bizarro" Julie's Sweet Shop and the wonderful business that was once there not longer exists. For the last five years, we have used Julie's for just about everything that you can rent at the beach...next year, we will be using another company. It is truly a disappointment. read more

I have rented from Julie's for over 25 years. The equipment was always in good condition. However, over the years it is obvious the management has changed. I rented 2 adult tricycles for the week of May 29-June 5, 2021 in March. I paid for them at that time because they were the only 2 left. In April, I received an invoice showing an unpaid balance and notice that the tricycles had been rented to someone else. I understand clerical errors sometimes occur but they refuse to refund my money! I have made numerous calls, emails (these are rarely answered) and left voicemails. I have been RUDELY treated and told they have no record of payment. I have even sent them a copy from my bank showing the payment cleared. I have spent what seems like hours trying to resolve this problem and recently filed a complaint with my bank. BUYER BEWARE! If you rent, make sure you have plenty of documentation. At Sunset Beach June 26-July 3 and rented a substantial number of bikes for family(9) and was shorted one adult bike. Texted that afternoon and when they finally replied, was told they would not come out and I should come to them and pick up one. On principal, told them it was their error and they should make it right. Saturday, no reply. Texted again more than once on Sunday, no reply. Finally went to their office/coffee shop on Monday morning. Crowd lined up to purchase coffee with one guy working that business. Another person on the phone, finally got her attention. Explained that I never received a bike. She shrugged and said she was not working over the weekend, kind of apologized, and told me to just grab one of the bikes from the rack out front. Never asked me my name or order details (great way to steal a bike if you are interested). I was surprised at the low level of customer service and can only assume they have so much business, they obviously don't need mine. Happy to see there is another bike rental shop around the corner from Julie's and will be sure to use them next summer. read more

We rented kayaks in July and they gave us a kayak with cracks and holes in it. We went down in the middle of the inlet and had to swim in and pull the kayak to the shore. There was no refund offered for what was a pretty scary situation. Would not rent from them again. read more

We had excellent service at Julie's. Being fairly tall, the owner was there to make all of the necessary adjustments for a comfortable ride, and even picked up the bikes at our rental house on the last day so we didn't have to go through the hassle of returns. I paid ahead of time to rent a bike trailer for a week. I cancelled it four weeks before going. They charged me a "restocking fee". Not sure what they were restocking. They delivered an obviously broken umbrella (no latch inside). 3 calls to get them to replace... they kept saying they'd send someone, never did. Finally after missing a day, I called and asked to get a refunds which they promptly gave... then still didn't pick up the broken umbrella. After another few days I called again and they finally got it. Then they called today to ask why we didn't leave the umbrella out for them to pick up... um, you picked it up 2 days ago! Wow, look at all the 1 star reviews on here - I agree (only because zero is not an option)! I ordered an umbrella to be set up in front of my rental cottage at Ocean Isle for one week (6 days). The first three days there was no umbrella, and I called repeatedly and Julie's kept telling me they had put it up and I kept telling them I couldn't find it. I asked to speak to a manager multiple times but he never called me back. I also asked to speak to Julie, and it turns out there is no Julie. I asked them to send someone to meet me on the beach and show me the umbrella, and they finally figured out they were setting up my umbrella at the same address on Sunset Beach. They admitted it was their mistake. I have fair skin and can't stay on the beach long without an umbrella, so I missed half of my week at the beach, and the aggravation of dealing with them did not make for a relaxing vacation. Then for the next three days they didn't put the umbrella out by 9:00 a.m. as promised, so I had to call each of those days as well. By the time they got there to setup the umbrella those 3 days all the good spots were gone and they put the umbrella farther back than all the others, so people would put chairs and umbrellas in front of us. I couldn't see my kids swimming in the ocean from where the umbrella was. At the end of the week I counted 14 calls on my phone. Horrible! read more

Lo and behold, the man who ran that other company bought Julie's, and brought the same "customers last" attitude with him. As other reviewers have pointed out, the staff is rude when you call them up to discuss an issue. Julie's advertises 10x10 cabanas for rental, but what they actually deliver are 8x8's that only accommodate 4 people. read more

Tried to rent chairs, and was charged $42 for two hours. When I went to pick up chairs, they had none. It was the girl's first day working there, and the manager had left her alone. Actually, they deserve 0 stars! Do not patronize this business unless you feel comfortable wasting your money. My family and I rented a beach umbrella from Julie's (a large purple one so you know what to avoid). We followed the instructions for planting it in the sand, but it would not stay up. When we returned that day to let them know, they did not care, were not interested in hearing what we had to say, and refused to give us a refund. Furthermore, they refused to walk across the parking lot to the beach to show us that it would work. Lesson learned: read reviews first. In case you are still in doubt - carefully read the signs outside of the store - they pretty much set the money grabbing tone . This is the first time I have ever posted a review online, but felt if I could prevent another family from wasting money while on vacation, it was worth making the effort. read more

I would put Zero stars but I can't. Their website is not user friendly and hard to use and no where does is say delivery is only available a week in advance. My family and I placed our order for bikes Sunday night and they took out the money from the account and sent confirmation then the next morning they weren't delivered. We called the office and encountered a woman with a TERRIBLE attitude, she claimed it was our fault because they don't deliver during the week and we had to go pick them up. She even hung up on us when we asked for a refund. So be aware if renting you need to give them enough notice if you can't go pick the items up yourself. Booking online was no problem and seemed promising. Renters should know that pictures online don't represent the condition of the items you'll receive. We arrived on Saturday and rentals were to be dropped off that same day. By 5pm we had not received. When we called to inquire, they said they'd deliver them tomorrow. When asked how they'd adjust cost, the answer was avoided. They then delivered 4 of 6 chairs, 0 of 6 bikes, 0 of 1 spike ball game. We called to find out where the remaining items were. The company was frustrated with us for them not getting our order correct. The main guy begrudgingly dropped off additional items that night and told us that his staff had messed up so now he was cleaning up after them. Chairs and Bikes are extremely weathered. Bike seats could not be adjusted because they were too rusted. Towels are small and were a bit of a joke for some of the men in our group. Unfortunately, this is the main rental company in Sunset Beach. We were there with 3 families, and we all had very similar experiences. Even though experience was poor, would not know how to avoid using them again. Would love to see Julie's Rentals upgrade their rental items and improve their customer service/organization . read more

We rented Bikes and then got an ice cream. The ice cream was awesome and the staff was great! I dropped my ice cream and they even replaced it at no charge. Now thats great service!!!! Will be back there again on our next vacation read more

We have been going to Sunset Beach for awhile now. This year we decided to rent bikes from them. I made the reservations on Sunday night, online, upon realizing we could use them for the week. The website was not user friendly and once done gave me the option to have them delivered to our rental house. I chose this option, paid and got 2 confirmation emails that everything went through and would be delivered the next morning. Upon waking up there were no bikes. I called Julie's as was immediately put on hold for 10 minutes. Then once off hold, told the employee the issue and she rudely cut me off saying that rentals cannot be done during the week. When I told her it was an option online she acted as if it was my fault and I should have known. When telling her I wanted to just cancel the order she hung up. When I called back she was very rude (even though she had just hung up on me) but she did give the refund. read more

I agree with another reviewer that I would give this place zero stars if I could. I will do my best to be short an sweet about the experience I had a week ago with "the boss" at Julie's, but it will be difficult since it was so unbelievable. We rented 5 bikes for a period of 2 weeks for our children and their friends which cost us over $300. The bikes themselves are in pretty horrible shape, but Julie's is unfortunately the only game in town on the island, so you get what you get. When I rode another bike that belonged to our rental house down the second week to renew our rentals, I asked them if I could use their pump to pump up the bike tires. The young staff acted kind of nervous about it and said that no, I couldn't and that they couldn't do it for me since I didn't rent that particular bike from them. I reminded her that I just spent over $300 dollars with them and could they please help me out with the bike tires, and she told me I had to "talk to the boss". When I found the older man who was "the boss" he told me that he wouldn't pump up the tires for me because they were very busy. I was the only person in his store. When I asked him if I could do it myself he again said no. When I reminded him that I had just paid his store $300 to rent 5 bikes he said "that's right we're in the business of renting bikes, not pumping up their tires." He then suggested I come back in a few days and "maybe" he could do it then. In utter disbelief and trying not to lose my cool, I just got up and looked at him and said "Wow. This is amazing." To which he very aggressively looked at me and said "Yeah, it is amazing isn't it!". At that point I left the store completely confounded by this guys behavior and attitude. When I told my wife what had happened she thought I was joking. When she finally realized I wasn't kidding, she went in to speak to the man herself. My wife is very lovely, kind and quite persuasive. She tells me she asked for his help with the bike and he said "no". Then she calmly explained to him that we had been coming to Sunset beach for 6 years now and had rented at least 4 bikes from him every summer, which has amounted to us spending over $1,500 with his store, and he said "well, I guess I'll just have to look that up." She said okay and gave him our name to look it up with and of course he didn't move to do so. He then said it didn't matter how much money we spent with him in the past because we basically stole $37 from him this time by already having one bike that we didn't have to rent from him. At this point she gave up and came back completely dumbfounded. As a business owner myself, I find it astonishing how this man would treat his customers. As a human being I find it unfathomable that a person would choose to treat other people this way. I just don't get it. I would have returned all of the bikes then, if I thought he would have given me a refund, which judging by his other reviews he wouldn't have. Also, I didn't want to rob my kids and their friends of the fun of riding the bikes, albeit terribly up kept bikes, for the rest of the trip. The unfortunate thing is that this place has a complete monopoly on bike rentals for the island, so this yelp review may not do much good. I will says that in all the years to come that we spend on Sunset Beach I will rent a truck and go get bikes from somewhere else. I will not spend another dime in that man's store. Not for bikes or ice-cream, and I would encourage everyone else to not give him another dime of their's either. read more

Unfortunately I didn't read the Yelp reviews before reserving a bike for 2 weeks, starting June 6, at a cost of $80. I called them and made my reservation on May 26th. That evening I located and purchased a used beach bike on Craigslist for less than it cost me to rent. So THE NEXT MORNING I called Julia's and cancelled my reservation, and was informed about their 15% "restocking fee". I was not informed about this fee when I made my reservation mere hours before. Plus the written brochure they provide says NOTHING about a "restocking fee." I think this is a very disrespectful way to treat customers. Not to mention one that guarantees that the former customer will never return. I have reserved a bike at Julia's every summer for 10 years! My advice: buy a used bike on Craigslist and bring it with you. Due to their sneaky "restocking fee" I cannot recommend renting anything from this store. Update: They eventually refunded $59.50 of my $80. Which is over $20 they kept as a "restocking fee". Their "restocking fee" is apparently 25%, not 15%. read more

Nice, polite kids running what amounts to a disaster of an unkempt, unorganized trash heap even by casual beach standards. Ownership should really reflect and see if they might summon a little pride in their establishment. Rented two run down ocean "kayaks" designed for toddlers at the cost of $266 for 6 days. Kayaks came with life jackets that might fit a 12 year old or younger. My own fault, I should have nixed the deal when I witnessed the operation and saw the product. Consumer beware, do not rent from this business even if you are desperate. One kid got up off the couch long enough to find me a kayak with at least one handle and deposit it on the ground behind my car. Cost himself a tip. read more
