A fine place. No tribulations whatsoever. Happy to report that of the two times I've been here…read more(spaced over six months), Trials Pub is a winner. A handsome building with three distinct areas to settle in, it's easy to find comfort here. The choice mix-tape music with ample offerings from the 80s and 90s especially, help set the mood. And though this is an English pub, the music is not confined to the U.K. The beer selection is great - and international, as well. The Guiness menu on the wall is helpful, but there's even more to explore. Tumer Pils, Stella, et al. And there is a good whiskey menu, too. Trials is also great for food. I recently enjoyed their Pub Burger, which is a hearty plate of 1/2 lb. burger, with bacon, cheese, and the usual veggie accompaniment. The 'chips' are good and plentiful, but I have now tried their beer-battered onion rings -- and those are wonderful. Perfectly crunchy, not greasy, and just salty enough. If you do opt for the salad with any of your dishes, it's deep green and crafted with care. The side salad here is no afterthought. The Shepard's Pie looks great, and apparently is (though my dining companion failed to offer me a bite). Previously, I had enjoyed the falafel plate because sometimes, you just want falafel. Also previously, I tasted the chicken curry dish (hearty and delicious). The Mac n Cheese bites got high marks at our table, though I did not partake. The sausage rolls - classic pub fare - were very good on my first trip here. The cold water is refreshing and welcome. And the Tumer Pils hit the spot. It's all good here. Special mention for Thomas, one of the gents here. Super-likable, with a sly sense of humor, Thomas is a major asset at Trials Pub. Parking is easy -- or just ride-share -- just in case.

Loved the fish themed murals inside on the walls for a unique touch. Service was quick! Everything came out perfectly crisp from the seafood to the fries. The lobster roll was buttery , flaky, delicious and sweet. I love that there are multiple sauce options. The menu has a wide array of seafood and specials !

I really don't get the good reviews. The food was so incredibly bland. The Yelp reviews definitely…read moreled me astray on this one. The Cheesy Crab Bread is not cheesy at all. They put the crab on top of the tiny amount of cheese they put on the bread. So it falls all over the place when you pick it up and try to eat it. At least the crab wasn't fishy and tasted all right, plus there was a lot of it. Otherwise this was dry and flavorless. If you want a good Cheesy Crab Bread go to Anchors. This one is not good. The Pint (16 oz) of clam chowder is bland, bland, bland with some extra rubbery, chewy clams. Thankfully there are hardly any clams in it but there are hardly any potatoes too. I love a thick clam chowder and this is definitely thick but that's where the good ends. It's pretty much like eating unseasoned, thick warm cream. This was all so bland and just not good. I had one piece of the bread and a few bites of the soup and tossed it. It was a complete waste of my money and my appetite. I didn't want to fill up on bland food so I just made something else at home. Such a bummer.

While visiting San Jose, our local friend suggested we try The Farmers Union for dinner, and I'm so…read moreglad we did! One of my favorite things about San Jose is the weather. Even though we were there in August, it was cool enough to comfortably sit outside on the patio, so that's exactly what we did. I ordered the beef brisket, which came with bourbon cola baked beans, mac and cheese, and a cheddar biscuit. The mac and cheese was absolutely amazing! It was creamy, perfectly cooked, and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. My daughter ordered a burger and fries from the kids' menu, and I was pleasantly surprised by the size. Even though it was a kids' meal, the burger was basically the same size as a regular burger. It was cooked perfectly, and she really enjoyed it. Our other friend ordered the salmon with corn and vegetables. She said it was delicious, and honestly, it looked amazing too. The other person at our table ordered the Pimentón garlic prawns and ate every single bite, so I'm going to take that as a pretty strong endorsement! For dessert, two of us split the crème brûlée, and there wasn't a single bit left. We basically licked the bowl clean! That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it was. Another huge bonus was the location. It was an easy walk from our hotel, which I always appreciate when traveling. Being able to walk to dinner instead of having to call an Uber makes everything so much easier. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and quick, and the whole evening was just really enjoyable. We got to sit outside, catch up with friends, enjoy the beautiful San Jose weather, and eat some genuinely delicious food. I would absolutely recommend The Farmers Union to both locals and visitors. It was a great dinner, a great atmosphere, and a great way to spend an evening in San Jose!

They had happy hour going on until 9pm(!!!) crazy, I know. The happy hour menu featured a few cocktails, beer, and mocktails for $9, and starters for 20% off. They were also able to substitute the liquors in the happy hour drinks for something else, which was huge for me since I'm not a fan of too many liquors. We of course got the duck pizza, which was super flavorful, and also got an order of the spam musubi. Both were really good and I'd order either again. We were helped by Ashley, who was so great and friendly. She seemed to be the host and server and did a great job balancing everyone and thing.

The service was absolutely amazing and staff / patrons enjoyed our fit. The cocktails are beautifully crafted. Delicious yummy! As a cocktail enthusiast I had no complaints just keep them coming! The dude enjoyed his cocktail as well. We didn't drive so we overindulge because we can! At a certain point this establishment turns into a club more than restaurant and the line was out the door by 11pm. We did try the Brussel sprouts which was delicious and wished we would have tried more food but we were stuffed. They had great music, loved the decor and glad we stumbled upon this place! Can't wait to come back!
