I don't write a lot of reviews, but my experience with Dr. Sherman compelled me to. I had been having some chronic issues that caused me horrible insomnia for two months. I felt anxious, depressed and I called in sick to work because I couldn't focus. I felt desperate but my regular doctor left her practice and I don't trust doctors overall. I got a referral from a friend to go see Dr. Sherman. I called for an appointment, but was told she was booked for over a month. I explained my situation and asked if there was any way they could fit me in. The super nice woman on the phone promised that she would call me immediately if they had a cancellation. I didn't have much hope, but I said ok. Literally two days later I got a call and they said they could fit me in that day! Amazing. I signed in and it only took about 10 minutes before I got in. A resident saw me first. He took my whole history and allowed me to talk as long as I wanted. This was wonderful since most doctors try to shuffle you out quickly. He was patient and very pleasant. Dr. Sherman then came in and asked me some more questions. She was also very nice and patient. They took great care of me and I went home and slept for the first time in two months. I use to see Dr Julie Ann Sherman. I received treatment from her intern unintended and could not get up off table. She finally entered room and assisted me to get off table. No compassion I was never the same with my back. She never followed up to show some compassion. I would never see her again and would not recommend her. read more

Needs cultural competency training. I'm a mental health professional and she lectured me on her skewed perspective of low self esteem as a reason for not using condoms. Asked me irrelevant personal questions about my sexuality. Also no digital system. Did not call in scripts, waste of time. Office needed a cleaning. Also pretty sure confused birth control brands on script, also forgot to add a script as discussed. Annoying to have to make sure doctors are following through. Also Monica is rude, and will try to dodge answering questions because she is uninformed. It is quite obvious when someone doesn't understand the services you received with the doctor. She tried comparing my payment as a transaction at the grocery store. I expect a doctors practice to have a higher caliber of communication and intelligence in exchange for medical services on my body. read more

Always waited, then saw students, then got left again, finally wandering out to ask if we were done here? Went to her on a referral saying she was a naturalist type Dr.. Nothing she gave me worked. Brought in reports from other Dr.s, got misdiagnosed and sent for very expensive treatments without even telling me why. I highly recommend Dr. Sherman. I change jobs frequently and I've never had a regular doctor but I go back to her because she is such a great doctor. She really takes the time to sit down and talk to you and ask you about your life. She will tell you if she thinks you are working too much, not eating right, etc. I really appreciate that personal touch. read more

I chose Dr. Sherman based on the existing reviews on Yelp. At the time, I was unhappy with my current doctor and looking for a change. I have never written a review on Yelp in my life but my excellent experience with Dr. Sherman and her staff prompted me to do so. From the moment I stepped into the office I was greeted by friendly staff. My wait was minimal; the extent of filling out new patient paperwork. Dr. Sherman and her entire staff were friendly, easy to talk and thorough. It was evident they sincerely cared; I didn't feel like just another patient they were trying to shuffle out. Dr. Sherman is one of the nicest physicians I have ever had the pleasure to spend time with. She listens, she cares, and she takes her time with you. Her staff is friendly and helpful as well. People are quick to write a negative review when they come in and the doctor doesn't do what they want them too, that's not the way it works people. Doctors go to school for over 12 years, your PHD from Google search doesn't not put you on a doctors level. I'm a new patient due to job/insurance changes and I'm ready to find a new doctor already. I showed up early for my first visit to fill out paperwork. I expected to be there for 20 to 30 minutes for a basic office visit but I was there for over 2 hours, even though I only spent about 30 minutes with the doctor herself. When I asked why the wait was so long or even for a credit, they blamed it on the patient before me who apparently had a lot of questions. I asked if I could get some sort of credit or discount and she said someone would get back to me. Months went by with no call back but also no bill so I figured they took care of it. Eventually I received a bill in the mail. When I called to ask about it, I spoke with the office manager, Monica, who said I should have called back earlier because there's no way they can remember all the hundreds of patients they deal with. I had also been playing phone tag with the office about getting some prescriptions refilled. I had already had my labs done so I confirmed I would still need the medication. When the office called me with my lab results I said how do I get my prescription refilled and they asked me for a pharmacy phone number. I asked them to confirm which prescriptions would get refilled and she said just the one. I mentioned that there were three prescriptions but she wasn't aware of three medications and couldn't even find my chart to verify that. I asked them to obtain my medical records from my last doctor so I think they should've had this information, plus I told them previously. We played phone tag for a couple of days so I ultimately sent them an email with all of my prescriptions and the pharmacy phone number. When I called to follow up on the email the lady who answered said that I just needed to come in for a flu shot so she wasn't sure why I was giving them a pharmacy phone number. I reiterated that I needed prescriptions refilled. She looked into my chart and asked me to confirm the medications even though I sent a detailed email with that info. Feeling frustrated, I eventually asked to speak to an office manager. Monica really just gave me a bunch of excuses - we don't check emails on Fridays, there's only two of us in the office, we work with hundreds of patients, etc. All in all horrible customer service and no accountability for the mistakes that they made. read more

Dr. Sherman takes the time to know her patients and diagnose tricky conditions. She is amenable to alternative medicines and will work with you on things like vaccination scheduling or alternate therapies. Don't go see her though, because I don't want it anymore difficult to get an appointment. I think she may be the only one in our ppo educated in the US. 5 stars. read more

I've lived in LB for 3 years and have yet to find a GP that I love. -- Dr. Sherman was nice but after waiting 2 hours I only saw her for 2 minutes. She didn't even do my exam. I understand that you should expect a wait at the doctors office but 2 hours? It probably would have taken longer but I spoke up at said I had to leave for work ASAP. I came into her office with a lot of pain. The staff told me it was by appt only but the doctor was kind enough to see me. It turned out I had shingles she took great care of me. I just recently changed insurance carriers and Dr. Sherman was recommended by my provider. I had an urgent need to be addressed and was hoping to get an appt within in a few days. To my amazement her staff was more than accommodating! They took me in right away and were very thorough. The entire staff was SO friendly and really treated me like i was their best client. Dr. Sherman not only addressed the reason I was there but also took the time to go over some things my previous dr failed to discuss with me. Hand down the BEST Dr i've ever had. Lazy homophobe. She was taking stitches out of my eyebrow and told me I almost ended up looking like "the people on Broadway" (a gay-friendly street in Long Beach). I've been going to her for over 4 years...she has a great bedside manner...very blunt and to the point...no sugar coating...she's always very thorough about answering any questions you have...referrals to specialists if she can't help you... Her staff is top notch as well...Angela is super friendly and has a way of making you feel at ease the minute you walk in...Monica is also super friendly and is quick to verifiy insurance issues and such The hardest part of having Dr. Sherman as your primary physician is that she's popular...and therefore it can take some time to get an appointment more often than not...but I guess it part of her greatest blessing being part of her burden...she's good and people want to be under her care! She recently stop taking my medical group...I got a letter informing me of this...called the office and they helped me go about calling my insurance and getting changed over that same day...granted my insurance provider was awesome and actually retrograded the change so that it wouldn't effect my appointment later that week! read more

Dr Sherman was just by chance, lucky me! I had an allergic reaction and was new to the area and my Heath care provider recommend her. Her office got me in a few hours later. TERRIBLE DOCTOR. Went in for a basic check up and some lab work and gave her some confidential information and was then was almost harassed for what i had told her confidentially. She made me feel humiliated and totally came off as attacking me for why I was in the office instead of doing her job as a "professional Doctor who is there to help her patients in every possible way." I have been a patient of Dr. Sherman for 2+ years. Art first I thought that I had finally found a good doctor. Since then I have had reason to doubt my earlier judgment. I called the office for a referral to an allergist because I had intermittent itching over a protracted period of time (decades) and had had enough. I had previously visited the office for this same condition being cared for by an intern. After following the advice I received for over 2 months with no relief, I called. A staffer called me back with advice. Dr. S advised me to do just what I had been doing since my last visit. Surely the treatment prescribed by the intern was recorded in my file. Then why offer failed advise again? I believe she neglected to consult my file or failed to read it in depth. I had already had some serious questions about the quality of care I had been receiving and this proved to be the determining factor in my decision to change doctors. Shattered confidence in her medical judgment and commitment to patient care notwithstanding I feel compelled to comment on my experiences with her administrative and support staff. I can only liken them to a train wreck. Lost messages, failure to return phone calls, and general incompetence are the hallmarks of at least one staff member, the one who handles the phone messages. I notified Dr. S about the problem and, while there was some improvement, at best I can only describe the service and sporadic, inconsistent, and untrustworthy. I have found that a competent administrative staff is as important as quality any other aspect of medical care. I continue to seek a qualified doctor, who also has a competent staff, so far in vain. I can only such a team exists within the ABC system. It is certainly not found in Dr. Sherman's office. Since no stars are not possible I have no choice but to grudingly award one, . read more

Dr Sherman is thorough and actually takes time with you and listens. She speaks the truth and addresses whole body and life issues. When you are with her in an exam room, you get her FULL attention. I cannot recommend this doctor enough. read more

I am very disappointed in Dr. Sherman. I have been going to her for the past few years. I was recently tested for Lupus after visiting a dermatologist for a rash on my back and scaling on my scalp and ears. I called Dr. Sherman's office and asked her staff if they could ask her to please call me back to discuss my test results and they said that it was not Dr. Sherman's policy to call patients back. After I visited a rheumatologist I called her office again to request that she call me so I could let her know about my meeting with the rheumatologist. Again her staff told me that I would need to make an appointment to see her and that she does not return patient calls. I will be looking for a new doctor for the next step in managing my health. read more
