Special dish tuna tartare toasted baguettes with spicy mayo
Jason L.

Went to Jules bistro for a special surprise date dinner. At first service was very good. We had people check up on us. After placing the order, it was hard to get somebody's attention to help refill our water. Or we have to ask for some sauce. The escargot honestly wasn't not very good. The mushrooms overpowered the taste and it just felt like we were eating some sort of stir fried mushroom sauce. 5/10 The next side was the tuna tartare which was very good, but the baguette was a very, very, very hard. We both had a really big laugh on how hard it was. If it was served with some softer bread or not as toasted it would've been a 10 out of 10 side but with the baguettes served as at once I would say it's a 7/10. Maybe bring your own bread And for our main dish, we had a big steak with a Caesar salad and chimichurri sauce. I am pretty picky with my steaks. We asked for our steaks to be medium, rare more on the rare side. We prefer it not to be overcooked. The edges of our steak were really good. They were spot on on the medium rare. In the center, though it was rare borderline raw. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get anybody's attention and we were starving. So I had the less cooked pieces while my significant other had the more cooked ones. The chimichurri did not taste super fresh unfortunately heavy on the garlic and the oil very light herb taste. The fries were very nice. Do you wish we had got a little bit more to be proportionate with the steak. For special night out, I do recommend this place not for the sides, but just for the steak. It is a little hard to get some waiters or waitresses attention. But I think the food is worth it.

FIRST OFF 7/10 for FOOD. Rounded up to 4 stars due to service being nice and the deal is good. 50% off Original price is $120 so $60 is special price. Cote De Boeuf on tuesdays is definitely a steal! The platter is good enough to share between 2 people, comes with french fries and spring salad. Upgrade to caesar for $5. Felt like the appetizers and mains were lacking, for apps we got the bone marrow on special and beef tartare. Both didn't taste flavourful and not super refreshing. Kind of was easy to get a reservation as long as you get a week before or you can walk in, saw a few seats at the bar could possibly walk in? The interior is a bit dark with a french interior. Open concept kitchen and bar. Restroom was clean and downstairs! Not sure if I would go back, only would go back for if my friends would really wanna go, as I had better steak elsewhere. But the deal is super good for what it is. Steak was lacking salt and flavour.

My friends and I came here on Tuesday for their 50% off special on the cote de beouf (normally $120). It's perfect to share between two people as the portions are massive! The steak was well cooked but lacked a bit of seasoning but we asked for some salt and that helped with the flavouring! You also have the option to upgrade your salad to a Caesar for $5 which we did not one of the orders. We also got their bone marrow (special) app and beef tartare. Both were delicious but nothing extraordinary. Our server was extremely nice and friendly attentive to us which helped me have a higher rating for the restaurant. The restaurant had a decent amount of seating both regular and bar seats! Overall I would definitely come back again for the special as it's an amazing deal!

Steak tartare

Service was excellent. Ordered an off the menu cocktail which they were able to make. It was delicious. Appetizers were excellent. Main items were even better. Dessert was a great finish. Great food. Great service. Would go back.

Came here on a Tuesday around 8:30 pm for the half price Côte de Bœuf special, and it was packed, clearly a popular Tuesday spot. They've been running the special for a while now, and it's easy to see why. We started with the escargot, which was really well done and a great way to begin the meal. The steak special is a 24-oz ribeye meant for sharing, priced at $60 per person for 2 people. We substituted for the Caesar salad which was a great idea. Steak and Caesar combo is elite. It's a good bang for your buck for the amount of food you get. The steak was cooked properly, I'm used to a bit more seasoning, so we asked for salt and pepper, which made it perfect. The fries were solid, and I liked that they served them with both mayo and ketchup. We had 2 glasses of Bordeaux, which paired nicely with the meal, and finished with dessert. There were three options for the tarts (apple pie, blueberry, and chocolate), and we chose the blueberry tart, it was phenomenal and easily a highlight of the night. The couple next to us said the chocolate one is also delicious if you're a fan of chocolate. Service was attentive and genuinely friendly throughout, even with how busy it was. By the end of the meal, we were comfortably full and very satisfied. A great option for a casual date night or a lively Tuesday dinner.

Took my partner here on a surprise date because we heard about the Tuesday special (half-price Côte de Bœuf platter). The interior was very pretty. I particularly loved their wall menu. While the service in the beginning was very accommodating and prompt, towards the middle to the end, it was quite hard to call them over. Even just to ask for water and a takeout sauce, it took quite sometime. In terms of the food, we ordered the half-price Côte de Bœuf platter with a Caesar salad , tuna tartare and escargot. For the steak we requested rare, but found it to be a little too rare as many parts were tough and chewy. But, I will say they seasoned well. The waitress encouraged us to get the chimichuri, insisting that it was delicious, but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. We were anticipating fresh, but it tasted solely like oil. As for the tuna and escargot, both were ok, but we did find the bread that it came with, to be more than hard. It actually hurt to bite through. Overall, this experience felt like it fell short, especially since there was so much hype.

Escargot! Absolutely divine.

Absolutely loved my experience at Jules Bistro! This place is a cute little spot for a intimate dinner or drinks - located right on queen st w near trinity bellwoods, it's easy to get to and not super crazy packed on the street like king west (barf) We booked the bar and honestly.. there is nothing quite like steak frites at a bar! Our bartender, Ellie was sweet, kind and attentive. Not to mention she nailed every single drink we ordered. The dirty martinis were absolutely divine, and you know it's made with high quality liquour because my head isn't pounding this morning. The spicy marg was also great! Their bar area is so cute with all the fixings. The escargot came with a really creamy mushroom sauce - unusual but I vibed with it and it was really delicious! I had the steak frites as well which came in a huge portion! They perfected the rareness of the steak and everything was 10/10. I think this place is amazing - and I'll def be back!

Jules Bistro is simply outstanding. The steak is always cooked to perfection and full of flavor, easily the best in Toronto. Llyes and his team deliver impeccable service, warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Every visit feels like a special occasion. The owner hangs-out there too, which is pretty cool!

Came here for the Tuesday special where the steak frites for two is about $50 (Half Price). We will start with the tables. Service was good but we were seated at a table where there were small drips of water leaking directly above the table. We noticed it when we got our soup and requested to move. That was fine but another couple got seated at the same table with the problem. Instead of avoiding it they allowed them and eventually they noticed and had water dripping over their food. For the food. The French onion soup was good we enjoyed it. Great flavour and cheesy with the toasted bread. The steak was overly salty and all we tasted was salt. That unfortunately ruined the steak for us. Getting a seat here took us to book a month in advance as well. They didn't do any walk in for last minute cancellations.

Côte de Beouf

I had a Marseilles Mule. I didn't think it was anything special and told the server. I followed that up with a Moscow Mule which was marginally better but ideally should be served in a copper mug. We enjoyed the last six oysters for an appetizer. Also had the salmon tartare ( main size) as an appetizer too. It was good. It's Tuesday night and that means it's 1/2 off Côte de Beouf. It's a AAA 24 oz. rib-eye. I thought it was cooked to perfection as I had stated I wanted it medium rare. In fact I thought it was the best prepared rib-eye I've ever had. I only seasoned the steak with the peppercorn sauce that accompanied it.. I try to be mindful most times of consuming low/no salt if possible. I noticed other diners overwhelmingly were enjoying this same dish. It was served with French fries and salad. Was the steak worth paying full price of $118 on any other night outside of Tuesday? Probably not but it was a good piece of meat. They did pre-slice it for you which I'm not a fan of but was presented well. This came with a bone. Despite certain criticisms I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment for Tuesday night! The ambiance was cozy. The service was welcoming.

French onion soup

We came here for the Tuesday special but we left kind of disappointed. The server was really good and our server was mostly ok. He did mess up on a cocktail that I ordered and gave me wine instead. The food itself was meh. The steak was overly salty, where we had to chuck it down with water. It also had a lot of fatty pieces. Their French onion soup was really good. Would recommend that. One of the most disappointing things was the vent was dripping water down while we were dinning in. They switched our table upon request. We thought they weren't going to seat anyone to that table anymore after notifying them, but nope, they continue to seat people there, and that couple also requested to be moved. That's tells a lot for a restaurant. If they know something wasn't going well but will continue to seat propel there, is crazy. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cute. It felt cozy, but it does get pretty loud.

Saute de Poulet

Came here on a Saturday evening for their famous steak frites, and it did not disappoint. Went to the Trinity Bellwoods location with a reservation. Was greeted with friendly service,a very cozy and relaxing atmosphere, and ordered the following: Steak Frites - Sliced 6 oz. Sirloin Steak served with fries and salad. The meat was tender and juicy, and was cooked and flavoured well. It also had ketchup/garlic aioli dip on the side. Its a must order Saute de Poulet - Sliced Chicken Breast in a bacon, mushroom cream sauce. It was delicious and their homemade cream sauce perfectly goes well with the chicken breast. Highly recommend too if you are looking for something outside of steak. French Onion Soup - also tried their freshly made French onion soup. Rich with broiled onions covered with croutons and cheese on top. Highly recommend this place and already made reservations for their Tuesday special to try their côte de boeuf platter at 50% off (normal price is $98). Can't wait to come back!

We came here without a reservation and we're lucky enough to be seated at the bar in the far right corner right. We were handed menus and waters right away and then left for a good 15 minutes before we asked for service. Did me know the owner was sitting right across from us at the bar and wasn't very attentive or conversational. I give this place a two star rating because the steak was delicious. Everything else could've been improved. We were there was a miniature rendering that someone had created of the restaurant and next to it was an album that we asked if we were able to flip through. Both of our surprises recognize an individual who grew up with as one of the photos and when we asked the owner, he shrugged his shoulders and said yes, I know about individual and walked away. We found his attitude to be so dismissive because we thought it would've been a great opportunity to strike a conversation with patron at the bar. Even With the half-price option, I would not return..

You can feel the Paris inspiration the moment you walk in, from the chic brass-accented bar to the warm ambient lighting and stylish design. We went for a Saturday dinner at 7pm and surprisingly had no trouble booking a last-minute reservation. We started with cocktails -- the Beurre Noisette (Brown Butter Spring Mills Whisky, Spice Rack Demerara, Aged Bitters) and the Eau Poivre (Tromba Blanco Tequila, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Cointreau, White Pepper, Lime, Cucumber Bitters). Both drinks were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. For starters, we had two French Onion Soups (rich beef broth, red wine, caramelized onion, toasted baguette, and Gruyère cheese), which were seriously comforting and, in my opinion, some of the best French onion soups in the city. We also shared the escargots with garlic, butter, parsley, lemon, and brioche -- classic and satisfying. For mains, my date ordered the Duck Confit Cassoulet with Herbes de Provence sausage, lardons, white beans, tomato, parsley, and jus, and I had the Beef Bourguignon with braised beef, pomme purée with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, and bordelaise. Both dishes were beautifully cooked and rich in flavour. We finished with crème brûlée (vanilla bean custard with Chantilly and berries) and lemon curd cheesecake (pâte sablée with lemon curd and blueberries). Both desserts were a lovely finish to the meal. The place was busy without feeling chaotic, and the service was friendly and professional, even if a little slower than I expected. The food was delicious overall and showed quality and creativity. The room was a bit chilly for my liking. I ended up draping my coat over my lap to stay warm (I get cold easily, though). Frenchy is a beautiful spot for date night or a special dinner, and I'd happily return to try more from the menu.

We ordered the featured cocktail (big rock candy) and spirit free to enjoy throughout our meal. The cocktail was on the sweet side but the tequila really helped balance out the sweetness. It also came with a mini skewer of candy that you can munch on. For starters, we ordered the beef tartare and the smoked trout tostada. Both were beautifully presented and well balanced. The beef tartare was rich and clean in flavour, while the smoked trout tostada felt lighter and refreshing, making it a great contrast to begin the meal. For mains, we both chose the Alberta beef. The beef itself was cooked nicely and very tender, but paired with the mashed potato and truffle mushroom cream sauce, the dish leaned on the heavier side. Had a surprisingly great Winterlicious lunch at Aloette. When I arrived at 12:30 PM, it was peak…read morelunch rush and felt a little too busy. However, the restaurant cleared out within about 30 minutes once the rush was over. This was Aloette's first year participating in Licious, and their lunch menu offered either 2 courses ($39) or 3 courses ($46). My friend and I decided to share one dessert between us. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. The wedge salad was super fresh, and the foie gras parfait was very well executed. Both the signature Aloette burger with Beaufort cheese and the fried chicken sandwich were excellent. But the highlight was the lemon meringue pie! The lemon curd and meringue were some of the best I've ever tasted. Oh, I almost forgot to mention their cheddar cheese bread! Sooo good! I'm officially a fan of Aloette!
