I was bummed out when my favorite salon in Seattle was overbooked for 3 weeks out and I needed my hair to be done STAT! Not only was I overdue for a cut but the super blonde ombre balayage needed to go because summer was over. I was desperate but and didn't want to settle for a mediocre stylist/salon, so I got on yelp and googled "hair" in the seattle area and that when I found Robert and was completely INLOVE with his work and technique. When I walked in I was welcome with Robert infectious smile and warm personality. He listened to what I wanted in a cut and color and PERFECTED IT! God blessss this man and his shears! Oh ladiesss, my cut and balayage costed 60% LESS than what I'm use to paying at my original salon. Winning! :) read more

Julee - Cut and balayage done by Robert! - Makeup Artists Near Me - Edmonds, Washington

When I got home from my last appointment, I realized the dye I got was actually very subtle. I don't blame it on the hair stylist because when I was describing what I wanted the first time, I was a bit reluctant to truly "unleash the dye" and go for a dyed look. It was my first dying experience and I think Robert took that to heart and wanted to let me take baby steps with my hair, after all, you can always go lighter if you want! After a few days of my new color, I realized I can probably go lighter. I contacted the salon to see if they had a deal for a redo or lightening up. They were so willing to have me come back to get my hair exactly how I wanted it and I was very impressed with their customer service. This time, I felt I could really trust Robert to do his thang, and work his magic on my hair and yes yes he worked it!! :) read more

I got referred to Robert by my friend who ALWAYS has great hair. I needed a new hair stylist and am BEYOND happy to now say that Robert is that guy, and I don't plan on seeing anyone else. On top of being amazing at cutting hair he is also one of the nicest humans I've met. He genuinely cares about his clients and wants you to have YOUR best cut. He gave me a good cut great dimension and also colored my hair for the first time! He takes the time to consult and explain what he's thinking and his vision. I am sooooo happy to have met this hair guru and love my current look... I also can't wait to see what he has in store for me next time. read more

Julee - My first color ever! I'm in LOVE with Roberts work. He's a hair guru!!! - Makeup Artists Near Me - Edmonds, Washington

I finally asked my friend who always has beautifully colored hair and she referred me to her stylist, Robert. I had long stopped dying my hair because I couldn't find a consistent hair colorist. His balayage work was amazing. It also lasted for months. I was getting compliments on my hair long after I was due for a touchup. He has a great customer service ethic and really takes the time to listen. He understands how to get what you want but provides the professional feedback that you need. Don't be afraid to let him flex his hair-tastic abilities. I would highly recommend making an appointment with him. read more

Robert recently started at McLaughlin's Hair design and of course I was his first client because.. A. HE IS AMAZING B. WILL MAKE YOU LOOK/FEEL LIKE A MILLION BUCKS C. HE IS HILARIOUS; IF YOU WANT A GOOD LAUGH OR JUST HAVING A ROUGH DAY STOP BY AND HAVE ALL YOUR TROUBLES MELT AWAY. D. YOU WILL WALK OUT LOOKING LIKE A CELEBRITY E. HE CAN MAKE THE UGLIEST OF HAIR LOOK HEALTHY AND SHINY. I honestly could go on forever about how fantastic Robert is... I met him while he was still in beauty school and have followed (aka stalked) him at every salon he has been at since because he is worth it!!! The salon itself is cute, cozy, and surrounded by a wonderful neighborhood! If you haven't already, go see Robert!!! You will not regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Robert is wonderful! I have followed him to McLaughlin from his previous employers and I will follow him wherever he goes. The first time I met him I told him that hair is hair and it grows back, then went off on a long list of specifications regarding what I didn't want him to do. He didn't bat an eye and he gave me a great cut! I have thick, questionably straight, course asian hair and he made it look amazing. I recently decided to dye my hair for the first time in over 10 years and went back and forth with Robert on what he felt would suit my cut and my natural coloring. I told him I wanted something low maintenance and he ended up giving me a beautiful ash blonde/brunette balayage which faded perfectly into my natural dark brown hair color. I am writing this review to tell you to go see Robert, but every other person I've met that works at this salon has been super fun and I've never seen someone look upset at the service they received. read more

Robert, Robert, Robert!! He is AMAZING!!! I was referred to him by a good friend who has been seeing him for years, and I was thoroughly pleased. He is a great listener (which in my experience has been difficult to find), and he understood exactly what I needed without me even having to explain much. I can't wait to come back! :) read more

Julee - I love the warm subtle color he put in-took my grays away and left my hair shiny and smooth! - Makeup Artists Near Me - Edmonds, Washington

See all

Julee is a doll. After a grubby day spent on house projects, I realized our water was off and I desperately needed to wash my hair before meeting friends for dinner. Julee squeezed me in before closing for the day and made me feel human again. And whatever she put in my hair made it super soft. I didn't have enough time for a cut, but the woman checking out before me had a great looking bob. I'll definitely be back! read more

I went here last week because Robert, the best stylist around, started working here. The salon is small, but cute. The staff was super friendly & they carry great product lines. My experience with Robert was amazing, as usual. He changed my lack-luster locks into a shiny, silky mane! I'm looking forward to my next appointment! read more

I was referred to Robert Chard by my spa gal who does my waxing. And I must say he does bot disappoint! Robert cares about what you want, will make adjustments to your liking and you never feel rushed or pushed into anything for cut or color. Julee is an AMAZING owner and an even better stylist!! The salon is warm, inviting, and friendly! I love this place!

I've wanted to go " golden/blonde" for a long time but never had the guts or perhaps the trust in a hair stylist to give me the results that I wanted. After seeing photos of my friend's amazing new hair color--I knew I needed to try her stylist! Robert Chard is amazing at his craft and I am absolutely in love with my new golden ash blonde balayage highlights. I really like how dramatically different my hair can look depending on how I've decided to style it. I'm excited to have found Robert and I can't wait to see him again as he'll be the only one coloring my hair! read more

My favorite stylist on earth just moved here. (Robert, who can make the ugliest duckling feel like a swan.) I went in for my first appointment here last week. It was awesome. The salon is small but nicely appointed. Friendly staff. Comfortable chairs, nice range of products, decent street parking. My hair is shiny and pretty and happy again. HURRAY!!! read more

Just had a fabulous haircut today by Julee owner of McLaughlin Hair Design By Jules. The environment of the shop was warm and friendly. Julee is a top notch hairstylist and I will be back!! If you have not been into the salon I highly recommend you do so. Just wanted to post an update on my haircut from over 2 months ago. Style is still looking fabulous and have gotten many great compliments on my hair even as it continues to grow out. I have a lot of wave in my hair that gets unmanageable as it grows out -- after getting my haircut by Julee this is no longer an issue. To be honest, I never got the same results when I had my hair cut and or colored from previous hair stylists that worked for Julee at the salon -- as a result I had stopped going. Since Julee is back to cutting, styling and coloring hair again it's great!! So happy that Julee is back!!! If you are new to the neighborhood and need a great haircut please go see Julee, you will not be disappointed!!! BTW, I just made another appointment with Julee and know it will be a great experience. read more

I have been going to Robert to get my hair cut for over 3 years now, and I won't ever go with anyone else. He has taken my hair from very long to short, from curly to straight, from darker blonde to light, from normal to Halloween ready, and on and on. He is exceptionally talented, kind, and fun to be around. I genuinely look forward to appointments with him. Do yourself a favor and get your haircut with Robert (or Robere, as you will soon see). read more

Robert Chard is AMAZING!!! I was referred to Robert by my niece because her hair always looked so great. She had been going to him for years! Robert did exactly what I wanted. He definitely knows what he's doing and has great attention to detail and color. He is such a sweet person and makes you feel so comfortable. You can tell that he is passionate about what he does. I have received so many compliments on my hair and how gorgeous the color is. I would highly recommend him. read more

I LOVE this salon! It is modern, clean & inviting. The stylists (Julie & Kimberly) are friendly & up to date on the latests style trends. I had full foil & haircut done several times & Kimberly has done both consistently well. It is a place to relax, laugh & catch up on the latest gossip. I live in Bellevue & am willing to drive all the way to Magnolia to get my hair done there. You will not be disappointed! read more

Worst hair experience I've ever had. The employees were rude and told me I had "to much hair to cooperate with" It was 60$ for a regular curl, the curls all went the same direction. Julee was nice but her coworker wasn't very helpful. My appointment was at 3 o clock and they didn't get around to me until 4.30 meanwhile another customer came in and got there hair done before me. They also made me blow dry my own hair. Will not be returning here ever again. read more

I came to McLaughlin hair design for the first time because it was close to home! I was so excited when I left to finally have found a place that can cut my hair the way I ask them to and it being so close was an added bonus! I've been coming here for years now and think the world of Kimberly! She is always in such an awesome mood and has tons of funny stories to keep you entertained while she magically turns your tired look into Victoria's Secret hair!!! She is amazing and definitely worth the trip to magnolia to see her in action!! read more

Robert Chard is by far the best hair 'artist' period! I've embarrassingly been to extremely high end salons in Beverly Hills and without question his eye for color surpassed what I received everywhere else combined with his ability to cut makes it a win win. I've also been to one of the most highly rated salons here in Seattle, (rhymes with 'Fang') and Robert blows all of them out of the water. He uses a french hair dye that's the absolute best and I've never had such natural highlights. I have a rich chocolate color now which lasts much longer than other products between touchups that I've had in the past. Also, he's amazing at styling! He will be followed and I'm so grateful I found him. :) read more

I have live in Seattle for well over a year but I was traveling back to Wisconsin to get my hair done, no joke, Wisconsin. There were people who could give recommendations for a stylist in Seattle but no one was in love with their hair. All that changed when I asked a friend (who's hair is perfection) where she went. Enter Robert! There are few things as fabulous as an amazing hair cut and color you feel comfortable and confident in everyday. Robert took time before we even got started to see what my daily routine was, what I have time for, my ideas, what I wanted to accentuate, and pictures of possible looks. Robert really took time to discuss the pros and cons of what I was asking. Ultimately he was very straightforward in that the look I was asking for required more time to style in a daily basis than I had time for and that my hair texture didn't bode well with that look. After talking he ended up giving me a longer bob with layers and an amazing baylage. Robert even was honest that my hair will look better with growth. I have never received so many compliments from others on my hair. And, best yet, it is easy and quick to style on a daily basis while giving me options for styling for nights about. I can not say enough positive things about Robert. A true sign of how amazing he is- others have asked me where I go and I can confidently recommend them to Robert. Added bonus: he is extremely funny and easy to talk to. read more

Robert is THE best. I'm incredibly picky about my hair but every time I have been to see Robert it's been above my expectations. He has an incredible eye for color and cut and really listens. My sister and I love Robert's work so much we asked him to do our hair for my sisters wedding. A true testament to how great he is. I almost don't want to leave this review so we can keep him to ourselves! read more

Robert is simply amazing at what he does!!! Ive tried many different places to get the right color I want. But never had a successful result like Robert could! And what's really amazing is that I didn't even have to say too much. He just knew what looks good on me! And he isn't only good at colors but cut as well. I loved the way he just cut my hair to make them look full and beautiful. I could not believe how my hair looked after he was done. I highly recommend Robert. He is very skilled hair stylist! read more

I came in to color and style my hair for engagement pictures later that day. I was definitely in a time crunch, but Krystal hustled and did an amazing color job. It's two weeks later, and my hair still looks super shiny. Hair and Makeup turned out great! Would love to come back again. read more

I am was very I unpleased the services I received McLaughlin. I made an appointment to come in before a dance, I was told that my hair was too long, to thick, and just too much to do any of the things I wanted to do to it. And then continued to tell me all the things I wanted she was unable to do and then began to curl my hair. All the curls went the same direction and were super tight and unvaried. Again not what I was looking for. Then after it was all curled she began to brush through my hair. Basically taking out all of the curls, and making them loose, which I did want loose curls but after brushing them repeatedly they began to fall out. Then when a braid was put in my hair to keep my hair back it was too tight and Baugh up for my liking and a cheep red hair rubber band was put at the end of the braid. Me no likey. When I asked if the braid could be pinned instead of draped, She placed a pin in a way that pushed the braid up andade it look like a horn. Then I asked if maybe the braid could be looser or lower and told me that she thought it looked fine, and "sweet heart" if you did it any lower or looser it would look worse and fall out. And again brought up the fact that my hair was too long to deal with so told me that's what I had to deal with. But I had had to "deal" with my hair plenty of times by myself and could have done a ten times better job myself. And I was not pleased with the $60 price for bad service and sloppy curls. Plus the crazy amount of hair product in my hair if anything made it an uncurly, sticky and a frizzy, unbrushable mess. You will never catch me at this salon again. read more

I will follow Robert to the ends of the earth! Love him as a human and a hair stylist. When I met him a few years ago another salon had dyed my hair dark purple (when I was aiming for auburn). Robert slowly pulled the color transformed my hair! Now it's a more vibrant version of my natural copper. Through all the transformations he made sure to keep it healthy. His cuts are on point, and he won't take away more length then you're comfortable with. He's honest about what he feels would look best for you and has integrity in his work. He loves to make you feel beautiful. He'll do my makeup or brows before I leave, just cause he's sweet like that. I would recommend him to everyone! read more

I have followed Robert Chard here from his previous salon...he has been magically transforming my prematurely graying hair for several years now. Prior to finding Robert, my hair never garnered any special feedback, but since finding Robert, I get compliments all the time. Whenever I leave the salon after he has worked his magic, I feel like a movie star...a totally new experience for me! He is focused and professional and always make me feel like a special guest in his chair. Always look forward to my time with him! read more
