When I got home from my last appointment, I realized the dye I got was actually very subtle. I don't blame it on the hair stylist because when I was describing what I wanted the first time, I was a bit reluctant to truly "unleash the dye" and go for a dyed look. It was my first dying experience and I think Robert took that to heart and wanted to let me take baby steps with my hair, after all, you can always go lighter if you want! Robert is wonderful! I have followed him to McLaughlin from his previous employers and I will follow him wherever he goes. The first time I met him I told him that hair is hair and it grows back, then went off on a long list of specifications regarding what I didn't want him to do. He didn't bat an eye and he gave me a great cut! I have thick, questionably straight, course asian hair and he made it look amazing. I recently decided to dye my hair for the first time in over 10 years and went back and forth with Robert on what he felt would suit my cut and my natural coloring. I told him I wanted something low maintenance and he ended up giving me a beautiful ash blonde/brunette balayage which faded perfectly into my natural dark brown hair color. Just had a fabulous haircut today by Julee owner of McLaughlin Hair Design By Jules. The environment of the shop was warm and friendly. Julee is a top notch hairstylist and I will be back!! If you have not been into the salon I highly recommend you do so. Just wanted to post an update on my haircut from over 2 months ago. Style is still looking fabulous and have gotten many great compliments on my hair even as it continues to grow out. I have a lot of wave in my hair that gets unmanageable as it grows out -- after getting my haircut by Julee this is no longer an issue. To be honest, I never got the same results when I had my hair cut and or colored from previous hair stylists that worked for Julee at the salon -- as a result I had stopped going. Since Julee is back to cutting, styling and coloring hair again it's great!! So happy that Julee is back!!! If you are new to the neighborhood and need a great haircut please go see Julee, you will not be disappointed!!! Worst hair experience I've ever had. The employees were rude and told me I had "to much hair to cooperate with" It was 60$ for a regular curl, the curls all went the same direction. Julee was nice but her coworker wasn't very helpful. My appointment was at 3 o clock and they didn't get around to me until 4.30 meanwhile another customer came in and got there hair done before me. I've embarrassingly been to extremely high end salons in Beverly Hills and without question his eye for color surpassed what I received everywhere else combined with his ability to cut makes it a win win. I've also been to one of the most highly rated salons here in Seattle, (rhymes with 'Fang') and Robert blows all of them out of the water. He uses a french hair dye that's the absolute best and I've never had such natural highlights. I have a rich chocolate color now which lasts much longer than other products between touchups that I've had in the past. Also, he's amazing at styling! I have live in Seattle for well over a year but I was traveling back to Wisconsin to get my hair done, no joke, Wisconsin. There were people who could give recommendations for a stylist in Seattle but no one was in love with their hair. All that changed when I asked a friend (who's hair is perfection) where she went. Enter Robert! There are few things as fabulous as an amazing hair cut and color you feel comfortable and confident in everyday. Robert took time before we even got started to see what my daily routine was, what I have time for, my ideas, what I wanted to accentuate, and pictures of possible looks. Robert really took time to discuss the pros and cons of what I was asking. Ultimately he was very straightforward in that the look I was asking for required more time to style in a daily basis than I had time for and that my hair texture didn't bode well with that look. After talking he ended up giving me a longer bob with layers and an amazing baylage. Robert even was honest that my hair will look better with growth. I have never received so many compliments from others on my hair. And, best yet, it is easy and quick to style on a daily basis while giving me options for styling for nights about. I can not say enough positive things about Robert. A true sign of how amazing he is- others have asked me where I go and I can confidently recommend them to Robert. I am was very I unpleased the services I received McLaughlin. I made an appointment to come in before a dance, I was told that my hair was too long, to thick, and just too much to do any of the things I wanted to do to it. And then continued to tell me all the things I wanted she was unable to do and then began to curl my hair. All the curls went the same direction and were super tight and unvaried. Again not what I was looking for. Then after it was all curled she began to brush through my hair. Basically taking out all of the curls, and making them loose, which I did want loose curls but after brushing them repeatedly they began to fall out. Then when a braid was put in my hair to keep my hair back it was too tight and Baugh up for my liking and a cheep red hair rubber band was put at the end of the braid. Me no likey. When I asked if the braid could be pinned instead of draped, She placed a pin in a way that pushed the braid up andade it look like a horn. Then I asked if maybe the braid could be looser or lower and told me that she thought it looked fine, and "sweet heart" if you did it any lower or looser it would look worse and fall out. And again brought up the fact that my hair was too long to deal with so told me that's what I had to deal with. But I had had to "deal" with my hair plenty of times by myself and could have done a ten times better job myself. And I was not pleased with the $60 price for bad service and sloppy curls. Plus the crazy amount of hair product in my hair if anything made it an uncurly, sticky and a frizzy, unbrushable mess. You will never catch me at this salon again. read more

I will follow Robert to the ends of the earth! Love him as a human and a hair stylist. When I met him a few years ago another salon had dyed my hair dark purple (when I was aiming for auburn). Robert slowly pulled the color transformed my hair! Now it's a more vibrant version of my natural copper. Through all the transformations he made sure to keep it healthy. His cuts are on point, and he won't take away more length then you're comfortable with. He's honest about what he feels would look best for you and has integrity in his work.
