You know when you wake up craving something and you decide to go out and find it hoping for the best? Well that happened to me yesterday I wanted a breakfast burrito sooo bad! Not just any burrito though, I wanted it to taste like someones mom or grandma made it for me with all the love in the world. That's exactly what I got here. I ordered 2 breakfast burritos. One with Bacon and Ham and the other with Carne Asada (+$1.75 and worth every cent). They had eggs, cheese potatoes green salsa and pico. It was the perfect blend of flavors. I couldn't stop making sounds (iykyk) while eating lol They also have extra green and habanero salsas to grab. Both are delicious but the Habanero was my favorite. On to the watermelon water!!!! OMG! I was in heaven! It was perfect! If you like watermelon, just trust me and order it. As soon as I walked in I was greeted. I didn't have to wait long to order or to receive my food. There's also a few tables and stools by the window to sit at. All this said, I HIGHLY encourage you to go support and enjoy some home cooked style food. I'm a fan! They give "Mom & pops" vibes with the goodness & quality of food here. This is one of the few eateries that's survived in the Ogawa plaza and for good reason. My 4 favorite items here thus far is definitely the breakfast burrito, turkey sandwich, the Horchata & watermelon juice. A+ indeed. Everything is freshly made and made well. Walked in and was greeted with a warm welcoming smile from one of the employees working the front. She was still setting up the coffee kettles and recommended us to wait for the cafe de olla (which we did). The service was pleasant there despite it being 8 in the morning and the open still opening up. I ordered a california burrito with potatoes and my cafe de olla. My gf ordered the breakfast plate. It was all so so delicious especially adding the habanero salsa on our food. This breakfast experience made me felt I was back home with my mom and she prepared the breakfast. Thank you Yelp for finding this true gem of a place. Hidden next to a closed up Vietnamese restaurant in Frank Ogawa Plaza, Juice Joint is awesome tiny place that can cater to every craving. They have Mexican, sandwiches, spaghetti, lasagna, smoothies, you name it. Noemi is the sweetest, kindest owner and you can tell they put so much love in their food and they survived the pandemic. I have been searching for a good breakfast burrito since having to be in the office daily and was unsuccessful until today. I tried a chorizo burrito and a strawberry, banana & mango smoothie. They are so accommodating that even if it wasn't on the menu they could do it. The smoothie was refreshing. The burrito was bomb. Not greasy (they drain the fat from chorizo) and the tortilla was homemade and delicious. They open at 7 so get your fix. Will be back to try the chicken tinga burrito for lunch tomorrow. You can choose a combo of any of the flavors (I think they were strawberry, banana, mango, berry mix, pineapple, maybe more but I forgot to take a picture of the menu)! I work in the area, so I've been going to this place for years, and it's consistently one of my "go-to places" or either breakfast or lunch. Their menu has plenty of variety when it comes to both breakfast and lunch items. I tend to order breakfast burritos or tacos (choriza for both!) in the mornings while opting for sandwiches if I eat here in the afternoon. Any food I've ordered has been delicious, so I expect everything else on the menu that I haven't tried is also good. The staff is friendly and has always provided great service. I'd recommend this place for their food (variety and taste), their service, and their value. I've yet to be disappointed. Also, since this is apparently the first review since the pandemic begun, I'd like to point out that they are still open for walk-in orders! I was craving my usual breakfast burrito, and it has been months since I've been here, so I called to make sure they were still open for business. I'm not sure if you can order ahead or even delivery, but you can at least walk-in and make a take-out order. This place is ridiculous. I've been frequenting between this restaurant and rotisserie for my short lunch breaks since I work nearby and I only have 30 minutes. Came by today to order a quesadilla, only to have it ring up to practically $13 when all the other times I've bought it, it was $10. The owners excuse this time was because I requested for a side of rice, no beans with my steak quesadilla. Mind you it's one small ass scoop of rice, and they're trying to charge me an extra $3 while all the previous times it's been the same $10 including that scoop of rice?? Lol. No. This place is infamous for their inconsistency in prices. My coworkers and I have unfortunately had to deal with this issue for as long as we've been customers. I normally wouldn't even care about paying $13 for the plate if it had always been that price from the beginning but they've shorted me for other things I've ordered in the past too and changed prices on that as well, claiming it's charged with "tax". For anyone reading this, I highly recommend taking your business & hard earned money to be spent elsewhere. There are a bunch of other honest establishments around the area, DO YOUR BEST TO AVOID THIS DECEIVING ONE. I never tried Juice Joint because I made the assumption on the title that this would be a knockoff Jamba Juice. But checking out the reviews and actually walking in, the place is more a local sandwich/Mexican spot than a Juice Joint. Who would have thought? Feeling kind of bleh and wanting to try something new, I figured I would check out this place, located in Frank Ogawa plaza, next to the Vietnamese restaurant and across the courtyard from the Rotisserie, which has similar offerings. The menu has a number of sandwiches, salads, soups, Mexican specials, breakfast pastries, and actual juice smoothies. I was debating sammiches, and saw they had crab salad so had to get that on dutch crunch. With a medium soup, and a Nantucket Nectar (which I didn't realize was sugar water) it came to $17. The chicken noodle soup was fine. The dutch crunch was thoroughly disappointing - like a knockoff dutch crunch that had no crunch. I found this place all right, as is commonplace with the offerings in this plaza. Worth checking out but not going out of the way for. read more

Wow - I love this place! Honestly, sometimes I skip my meal prep just so I have an excuse to come here. They get really packed during the lunch hour but are still somehow super fast and always really friendly. The food: The burritos are amazing, as are the breakfast burritos (yes, little known fact, they have breakfast burritos!). I really like their veggie breakfast burrito because it comes with potatoes, spinach, and pico, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on any flavor even without meat in it. My second favorite is their salads with chicken added. Also, if they aren't out of mole yet, try their mole plate! You will not regret it. Their mole has a bit of a kick to it and comes with rice and beans. They also have fruit cups by the checkout with jicama, mango, and assorted fruit options for $3 - awesome way to make sure I get a healthy snack in. They have a ton of other items, but those are just a few of my personal favorites. Affordable and delicious. Card minimum is $5. This place to me is just alright. It's in the middle of the plaza so if you work near City Center or in Frank Ogawa, it's certainly convenient. They have salads, soups, sandwiches, burritos, lasagna and other goodies such as breakfast, snacks and drinks. For lunch, you have the option of choosing half salad and half sandwich, or half sandwich and a small soup for $8-9. Their sandwich portions were quite small in my opinion and the soup was nothing out of the ordinary. Got the combo half italian sandwich (cotto, salami, mortadella & provolone on wheat slice w/lettuce, tomato, onions, vinegar, oil, mayo & mustard) and soup, clam chowder (small). Total $6.04. This place gets 4 stars from me because it's convenient, cheap, and fast. With this cold weather (for a Floridian at least) I always find myself craving just a bowl of soup. I was compelled by a place named "Juicy Joint". How bad could it possibly be? This little hole in the wall is located near Oakland's City hall. It's in this strip of small eateries and coffee shops where there's plenty of outdoor benches and a piece of literally bent outdoor sculpture. A nice area to eat your lunch outdoors. Walking up to Juicy you'll find a black awning with funky yellow type. A street menu that looks like it was written by a hippie-parented child stands outside. Juicy's window storefront is decorated with large bold Helvetica style san serif type, touting "sandwiches, soups, salads, etc." There are additional paper menus on the window. Once you walk through the doorway you'll be surprised by its interior. It has a "soupy" cream colored wall, high ceiling, and wall hanging rustic-modern lights that get in the way of the menu. They have their name made to look like cactus high on the back wall. There's enough seating for fifteen with additional outdoor seating, yet the tables outside weren't set even though it was lunchtime. As soft latin rock played in the background I kept wondering to myself, "Just what were they thinking when they made the place?". Besides only one guy eating soup, this place was was dead. Their menu lists baked goods, sandwiches, salads, soups, and beverages; a typical menu. I ordered a small chili ($3.15). An odd lady served me with a nice smile. She kept giving me this suspicious smile. My chili came in a paper cup with a lid in a brown paper bag. I'm always unsure why people put my order to go even though I state that I'm eating in. The chili comes with optional cheese and onions and soup crackers. The chili was not elegant or sexy. I've had better chili out of a can. The concoction resembled chili more than it acted as such. The red brown mixture had beef crumbles, but nothing that feels like real hunk chili beef. There are hints of celery and it was barely even hot; no steam, no sexiness. The optional cheese consists of many clunky cubes of swiss and american cheese. Because the chili is barely hot, the cheese doesn't melt into a gooey delicious consistency. The cubes merely sink or take up way too much cup real estate; although, the swiss cheese did taste good. The lady threw six packets of crackers into my bag. "More is always better", I say, but this ridiculous. I ordered a small chili and I'm getting six packets of crackers? That's two crackers per pack, adding up to twelve crackers. Good thing I don't make my living on whistling. _____ The eatery's design is totally fragmented and confusing. It's unfortunate that the chaos runs rampant in the food. Not coming back. read more
