When I feel like my diet lacks the veggie group and especially when a large percentage goes to process or artificial food etc. I make a stop here, pretty much 2-3 times a week. I go for the 'Berkeley Green' which consist of spinach, celery, kale, and ginger (all organic ingredients). I'm truly blessed to be be able to do that because it's not cheap but our health depends on a balanced whole food diet, which I haven't been able to control. So I make up for it here. Bad customer service, bad smoothie making skills and unsanitary. I would try to go somewhere else before coming here. Here is why they need better management and better workers. People who work there just don't care. Guy made my smoothie horribly unbalanced. So much so he had to scoop my smoothie out with a spoon. I took a sip knowing he would need to redo the smoothie. It was just poor execution. I asked him if he could make it with less ice. He grabs the smoothie I have already been drinking and he places it back in the blender to add soy milk...mind you there were only 3 strawberries in my drink and half didn't make it in my cup since he put too much ice in the blender to begin with. It literally tasted like ice with a hint of strawberry. Why wouldn't you just remake? Why are you trying to fix your poor execution of a smoothie. Asked for my money back and left. I was very excited to find a place that serves Acai bowls in Berkeley's downtown....As I was craving one this morning and it is always too far of a morning walk to go to Jamba Juice, I ventured into this small yet cozy and comforting spot in Berkeley square. Very friendly staff and the menu is bright and colorful to help enlighten the morning! I ordered the one Acai bowl they offer with almond milk and waited as the blender freshly pureed up my breakfast. Extremely hungry and excited at this point as I took a perfectly portioned spoon full of the purple mix with berry, granola and coconut toppings I was left with a bland taste and small hint of the honey drizzled on top...such a disappointment! I tried and ate about half way down thinking it was in my head, but no, the reality is I will not be coming back for the bowl and I will still be on the look out. I am open to trying their juices so they have room for improvement on my star board. read more

I went to this place on a Sunday afternoon and let's just be forthright and say this place is THE BEST smoothie place in Berkeley. You can see the fresh ingredients and watch your beverage be made. I ordered the mango madness and it was PHENOMENAL! My cashier and smoothie maker was this cute, trendy Asian guy that totally fit the health-conscious image of the shop and he was great too! I asked for extra mangos and he was super nice about it that I didn't mind paying extra. I actually felt bad for the guy because there was a rude customer in front of me giving him a hard time. The cashier was too polite to say anything and placated the customer, but I definitely mentioned to the customer to be a little more polite because service industry people are people too! Yo, Juice Appeal's got mad appeal. I have to say that I was ignorant of the purée ways of juice bars before I started working in the same building, but they have schooled me innumerably. These pretty ladies and cool bros whip up smoothies that will make you scoff at Jamba Juice, Booster Juice and that disaster I tried to make at home once. The boy was thirsty for a smoothie and decided that this was the place he wanted to try. The shop is placed almost in the middle of the street, or so it looks like. It's a pretty neat place to have a shop, hard to miss. When we got into the shop, it turned out to be pretty small inside. There were 3 female workers, all who were very nice and helpful with our order. We got the Island Hop and Mango Madness, both which were noted as "Highly recommended". The Island Hop was alright. There was strawberry, banana, coconut and probably some other stuff in it, but it wasn't very good to either me or the boy. We both thought it was pretty bland and had a very unique kind of taste that we didn't like. Maybe it was the coconut pieces in the drink.. or maybe it's the fact that it was mixed with strawberries and bananas?!! But anywho, what got this place the 4 stars was the Mango Madness! That drink was soooo good. Definitely IMMENSELY better tasting than Island Hop. The mango flavor really came through in the drink and it was a very refreshing drink to cool me down during the day. I will most definitely come back to try some of the other flavors, but I'll probably try to stay away from the coconutty flavors on the menu. XD read more

Definitely one of my favorite places in Berkeley! Cheaper than a lot of smoothie places, but the smoothies there are still tasty. Location might be a bit obscure, but it's rockin' And this is coming from a pretty big smoothie fanatic. (I'm pretty sure I've had smoothies from almost everywhere in Berkeley?) Oh, and I love the employees there! All of them are super friendly, and always ask about my day and converse with me in general. Service I would say it pretty fast. First time at Juice appeal. Also my first time writing a yelp review . So it's just fitting that I review a juice place being a store manager of a Jamba Juice . I ordered the wacky watermelon. I love trying different juice shops and getting something I can't currently get at Jamba. Their wacky watermelon contained watermelon juice, orange juice, bananas, strawberries, and pineapple sherbet . Very refreshing and light . Semi-flavorless but that's how I like my smoothies, not too sweet . It was perfect . The male cashier with glasses was very friendly and helpful. Good smoothies when they try but does not advertise that it's cash only. The owner isn't that friendly but the other workers are. I've had a few smoothies really under blended, like just chunks. I'm a fan of juice appeal! I love slurping a smoothie on my way to class or on my way to the Bart station. There's just something about the texture of these smoothies that makes it better than other smoothie places I've tried. It's a little icy and the iciness gives the smoothie a bit of a crunch. I'm probably failing at describing it's amazing texture. Just trust me, it's good! Try Matt's Miracle it kind of tastes like a Razzmatazz from Jamba but even better! The strawberry splash smoothie is also yummy and refreshing. Anything with sherbet or froyo mixed into it is a safe choice! It was a hot day and we had just finished lunch at PIQ, so we wandered over to Juice Appeal to get a drink. The shop is pretty small and there's no seating, so it's more of a pick up and go place. The menu is pretty extensive, and I was impressed when I saw that they had acai drinks! What we ordered: - 24 oz. Malibu Blast ($4) The workers were friendly and made our smoothie pretty quickly. It tasted great (very tropical) and helped us cool down in no time! I definitely liked the feel of this place and definitely prefer it over huge chains like Jamba Juice, which is way too overpriced. For the same price at Jamba Juice, you would only be able to get a 16 oz. drink. Will be back for sure! read more

A friend of mine and I went here despite the most recent negative reviews and was honestly good! First thing I noticed whenI walked in was that there were a LOT of options to choose from. It was a little overwhelming lol. My friend ended up choosing the Island Hop and I got the açai bowl blended with almond milk. Wait time was not too bad, but his was ready well before mine was. The staff could've been a little more friendly imo. Also important: this place only takes cash. As for food, the smoothie was delicious! And we also both enjoyed the acai bowl (which looked a lot prettier than the pictures of it available on yelp). The fruits were fresh and it wasn't too icy or watery like how some places make them. 2.5. Erring on the side of 3 for fond memories that I hope don't stay memories. A few years ago this place would have earned a 4 from me, maybe even a 5. I used to go occasionally and get strawberry lemonade because it was oh so good and fresh and only lasted 3 minutes because I rarely came up for air. I remember there would never be a lot of people working there, but the wait was never unreasonable and the owner and staff were super friendly and gave good recommendations. When Jamba Juice let me down because all their smoothies tasted the same, I'd think of this place fondly. On a recent visit, though, the juice was still good but the service sucked. There were 3 people waiting for their orders to be taken (including me), and the cashier started helping the person in the back do unnecessary prep like refilling a full-enough cup of straws. When the person ahead of me--not hiding her annoyance--asked if she could make her order, she was told to wait. I asked the cashier a question and she just did not understand what I was asking (basically, can I combine these two juices?). I asked my question a few different ways, and still she did not get it and kept giving me the same answer as if I'd asked a different question. Good juice, miss the old service. read more

Came here on my way to work because I was really thirsty. They were pretty good - the cashier lady was nice, and when they told me that they were out of blueberries, they immediately were ready to substitute in blackberries, which was completely fine by me. Cash only. The smoothie itself was alright, it was creamy and well-mixed. I kind of like my smoothies with more of an icee texture, but in terms of taste I don't have any complaints. I'm rating this place 3 stars because while I liked their laid-back attitudes, I just felt like they were overall more concerned about their profit margin. There was a couple who came in after me, and they had a customized drink order. Immediately, the lady in charge (who was making my drink) dropped everything to go over to the cashier lady and start talking about how much to charge them, and watching the proceedings very carefully. After the couple complained about the extra charge at the end and explained their order again, the lady-in-charge was willing to waive the extra charge. So, plus points in customer service, but minus points in focusing so much on whether or not to charge for the smallest things (up to the point that it distracted her from making my smoothie)/having this kind of conversation in front of the customers. read more

I'm still a big fan, and the South Seas Sensation smoothie is one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted, but ASK FOR A STAMP CARD. I come here almost every single day, probably 4 days a week at least, and no one has ever offered me a stamp card. I could fill one up every 2-3 weeks! I only know they have them now because one person in line before me took one out and got it stamped. It makes me angry that they don't put them out or offer them to people they see everyday. Don't you care about keeping your customers loyal? The people that work here are very nice and I'm sure their juices and coffees are great, but the Acai bowls are sub-par. They are extremely sweet and none of the fruit on top is fresh - all frozen, including the bananas. In the middle of the summer, fresh fruit should be doable. I make a better acai bowl at home. Best smoothies in Berkeley, hands down. Juice Appeal has better deals than any other place I've been. Been going to Juice Appeal since the month it opened, and it hasn't changed a bit - wouldn't want it to. The smoothies on the menu are pretty much all outstanding (depending on what you're into -- I don't personally like the berry-heavy concoctions), but unless you're in there in the middle of a huge rush they'll even let you make something up yourself from their list of ingredients. They put no ice in their smoothies, which the vast majority of other places do to pad out the size and save on ingredient cost. And they'll put a fresh banana section in any drink if you ask them to, which gives it a great fresh creamy texture. The wheatgrass juice is good and fresh, the fruit and veg juices are uniformly outstanding, and even the service is mostly above average, especially since the creepy bald dude with the 'stache stopped hanging around. They even have a decent assortment of healthy (though overpriced, as always) snacks. Great for a healthy morning beverage. Wish they were open later because occasionally I get a hankering for a nice smoothie on my way out of one of the local bars. read more

I've lived in So Cal where smoothie shops are a dime-a-dozen, and I've had my share of smoothies, but nothing compares to the service and friendly atmosphere and great fruit. I was on a juice fast rebooting my body for about 12 days. Its very hard to find a place around Lafayette that serve raw juice. This place is Berkeley cute and small. They ONLY accept *CASH so don't show up one day like me with no cash and have to go to a ATM machine that I don't bank with and get charged $3.00. *NO parking so have fun trying to find a spot, plus don't forget to pay the meters. The only place in Berkeley with acai bowls... what?! The quality matches what you would expect if you were the only of something- acceptable. The honey was really good, the granola was decent. But the actual acai was runny yet also too icy- an impressive faux paus. Also quite bland, my friend recommends using the apple juice instead of the almond milk to add some more flavor. I had the Green Buzz smoothie... I was burping ginger all afternoon. The taste was ok however. It gave me energy and wasn't as harsh as some drinks I've had at other places where they include ginger. I was kinda of disappointed this was Berkeley's number 2 juice spot for the neighborhood... I guess I thought with all the organic/vegan choices, they would cater to a more authentic crowd... They have two sizes for their smoothies, 16oz and 24oz. 16oz smoothie is $3.50 while 24oz smoothie is $4.00 I got 16oz Mango Madness while my friend got 16oz Citrus something(forgot the name) The smoothie was decently priced and it tasted good but not mind-blowing. Having become more health conscious recently, I decided to check out some local juice places to improve my diet. Thus far Juice Appeal blows the other places out of the water - not a sugary chain store like Jamba and with better selection and quality than Planet Juice. I'm a big fan of their veggie juice blends, especially the "Harmony" blend. Smoothies are good and not sugary or icy, just fruity and filling. Plus, they have E3 Live which I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Stuff tastes way better than wheatgrass, though they have that too. Great Smoothies! Horrible Customer Service!!! This place tried to charge me (50 cents) extra because I didn't want ice in a smoothie instead I wanted yogurt and agreed to pay extra. However when I questioned the manager she gave me some non-sense excuse why i would have to pay extra for something I did not want. The smoothies average $5 already. The manager finally agreed and said i should not be charged extra! The next time I went in she had a BAD attitude so I will no longer patronize this joint! Walked to this location on a Sunday morning and was met with a mind-numbing array of options on the board. I have issues with indecision, so I was more than pleased when the kind girl behind the counter suggested the Ginger Mint Lemonade. She also honored my request for low sugar content. I could really taste the freshness of the lemons! No concentrate here! The ginger gave it a fantastic kick. It is located right next to the Downtown Berkeley BART, so I highly recommend it as a quick stop location if you want to grab a juice on the go. I will come back and edit this rating once I have returned to Juice Appeal and tried their smoothies. Unfortunately, I believe that many of those are not made from fresh fruits. :/ read more
