Long story. I'll be as brief as I can. Over the last year or so, our refrigerator has failed five times. We have had an appliance repair technician in our home eight times so far, each time requiring one of us to adjust our schedule and wait around for service. The problem is always the same. The refrigerator will stop making ice, then the ice in the ice maker starts to melt. We start to notice that food in the freezer is not completely frozen, and eventually we have to empty the fridge, save what we can and throw out the rest. Each failure requires two visits; the first to diagnose and order parts, the second to attempt repair. The first six visits were from the same Judd and Black technician. First he replaced the compressor. It failed again. Then it was both evaporators. Failed. The next time he replaced the control modules. Again, it quit working. The next time it quit working, the third party company that administrates the warranty gave the job to The Appliance Hospital, a repair company not associated with Judd and Black. Their technician said that the freezer evaporator had a leak and needed to be replaced (I though it had already been replaced). Parts were ordered and another service scheduled. On the day that he was to return I waited around all day and he never arrived. I called Appliance Hospital and was told that he would be unable to make it that day. A new appointment was scheduled with a different technician. When that day arrived, the new technician did his own troubleshooting and said he needed to replace the compressor. I said that the compressor had already been replaced. He disagreed, saying that it still had factory seals on it. He replaced the compressor and recharged the refrigerant and said he would return the following week to check for leaks. He did not return the following week. Now here I sit, the ice maker not working again, the ice melting, the frozen food feeling not so frozen. A week and a half ago I called The Appliance Hospital to schedule the return of the technician who replaced the compressor. He was supposed to arrive tomorrow, the day before Thanksgiving, and bring with him the freezer evaporator that the first Appliance Hospital technician ordered. Now I am told that because I made the appointment myself, it will not be covered under warranty and I will have to pay for parts and service. I spent the best part of an hour yesterday on the phone first with Judd and Black, who told me that it would be covered, and then with the warranty company who told me that I need to cancel the appointment because it wouldn't be covered. I don't know what is going to happen next, but we are beyond frustrated with this situation. We have lost many days waiting for services that accomplish nothing. We have thrown out hundreds of dollars worth of food. We bought a small mini fridge and freezer for essentials that now sits in our living room. The people at Judd and Black are always kind and genuinely try to be helpful, but I think the company has grown to the point that one caring person there really can't make a difference, especially when decisions are farmed out to third party administrators. All they can do is throw you back into the same loop over and over again. I'm not old enough to be called a Boomer, but I can remember a time when companies would stand behind the products that they sold, even if the defect was not their fault. It seems like at some point, after multiple complaints about the same problem, Judd and Black would step in and make it right. Two stars for having nice people. read more

We recently had our washer die. We had bought second hand washers and dryers all of our lives. My wife and I decided it was time for us to get a new pair of appliances for our laundry room. Even though the dryer is still working we decided to replace it too, it was still old, and I had to repair it a few years ago. I have lived in Everett all my life and was well aware of Judd & Black as an Everett icon but had never actually shopped there. When we walked in we were greet and assisted without high pressure sales tactics, something I cannot stand at some places. I had walked in with a certain pair of LG appliances in mind (from their website), but after some discussion changed our minds to a pair of Whirlpool devices. Jayce was very clear to explain to us that Judd & Black will take care of anything they sell with their mobile service. This is something a lot of companies really do not do anymore, this helps them stand out among their competition for sure. Review update: Judd and Black has apologized for the lack of communication and made it right. We are getting our refrigerator replaced under the warranty. Many thank to Taylor and Michael. We purchased all of our household appliances from Judd and Black in April 2018. Along with the appliances we also purchased the extended warranty. Our refrigerator stopped working properly back in May. May 16 Judd and Black sent a repair person who told us that the issue was a circuit board and that this was a frequent issue with our unit. The repair person told us this part would need to be ordered and it should take 1 week, 2 weeks max. Luckily we have a backup refrigerator that we can use. We are now 5+ weeks and Judd and Black has neither fixed, nor replaced our refrigerator. Follow-up has been terrible, with us being the ones who call to get a status update. read more

Big disappointment. We bought a refrigerator, stove and dishwasher all from Judd and Black along with a 5 year warranty. Unfortunately, the refrigerator needed repair after 15 months. It happens, I get it. Nearly one month later after calling numerous times to find out the status of repairs, being told I would get a new refrigerator, but then having a repairman call me to say the parts would be sent directly to me (huh), I still do not have a working refrigerator or parts. I expected a lot better from a local company, in fact we made a point of buying from Judd and Black, thinking they would stand by their service and products, it has been one giant mess from beginning to end and at this point I think I might have been better off at the big box store where prices are lower and they don't pretend to offer customer service. read more

He said they can order the part for $190 and then fix it. But, whatever I choose to do, they are going to charge me $230. No one on the phone informed me that I would be charged such an exuberant amount of money for a diagnosis. I feel cheated. Now they have me in a bind - I can pay the price of the part to get it fixed, or walk away now and still owe $230. It makes sense at this point to have them do the work but I feel so taken advantage of that I am temped to just order and repair myself. I don't know why they think a charge of $230 is not something they should let the customer know about. The repair man was very nice and honest - no complaints there. But the company policy is going to cost me $430 when the dishwasher was only $500 brand new. I am bummed because I want to use a local company but I am afraid that I can't afford to do business with them in the future. read more

After 2 service calls on a 1 year old Maytag washing machine, the Service Manager at the Everett location requested replacement parts from the manufacture to fix the machine. Unfortunately the parts were on back order with no foreseeable deliverable date. He took immediate action and requested a replacement washing machine that arrived in just a few weeks. My Kitchenaid dishwasher stopped working so I called Kitchenaid and they us Judd and Black to do warranty service work in our area. I took the day off work to have them come and troubleshoot and the tech decided it was the pump that had failed and would order one and be back out in a few days. I took a day off, the tech returned with new limp and it was not manufactured correctly and is leaking water, he said he would order another pump and be back in a few days. I took a day off and the tech had the new pump and installed it, the dishwasher still did not work and he said the wrong pump came in the box and would need to order another. I called Judd and Black and they told me I would have to take another day off because they couldn't drive to Tukwila where their parts supplier is and finish my job today. Had a tech come to look at the @#$# washing machine again as it was leaking and I could not find where it was coming from. The first gentleman could not recreate the issue so he scheduled another call a few days later where I could run some laundry ahead of time to prime the leak. Second guy came and found the leak and said we needed a new boot gasket, which was what I expected after doing my own research. Few days later, a third guy came and installed it in just a few minutes and we were all happy! Except a few hours later, the leak reappeared :( Feeling somewhat disgruntled, we called back and another guy came out and took apart half the machine and discovered the real issue... the tube that leads from the soap dispenser to the tub was cracked. Its a rare problem. I asked if he could reinstall the apparently non-faulty boot gasket and could we return the new one that we didn't need. I wasn't sure if this would fly since it had been in our machine for a few days but I really didn't want to pay $120 for a part I didn't need. He called his supervisor and they said ok so he put back in the old one. Sweet. Then a few days later another guy (funnily, the very first guy who came out... I think we might have met their entire staff!) came to put in the new tube. So after all these visits and installing and un-installing a part we didn't need and then installing a part we did need we were only charged for 1 service call and the cost of the tube. I have found with J&B that if you have a reasonable request they will do what they can to accommodate a customer and I really appreciate that they aren't tied into strict policies but are flexible with whatever situations come up. Judd & Black touts their service as a differentiator. However, when they made a scheduling error they failed to own it and solve it. I talked with the dispatcher and his comment was, "we're busy." In order to have my dishwasher fixed, which I bought from them, I had to rearrange my day, change the schooling for our kids and other appointments we had planned. It's been weeks where we've waited for their availability to stay with a local company. Judd & Black appears to drive for a sale and then falls down on the operational basics of service. The in store service was good, the sales staff knowledgeable and helpful. They were able to match Home Depot and Loews sale prices for dishwasher and refrigerator. The problem is with their service center and delivery. For the refrigerator they can only provide 1 day a week and no time until the morning of delivery when they call between 8:30-9:30am. So if you work and have no one available to house sit all day for them to show up or work any distance from your home, don't use their delivery and install unless you can take vacation or telecommute from home. I was not pleased that they wouldn't work with my schedule at all, they gave me no options other than their schedule, and when I talked with a manager he said it was due to tight margins and their processes. if they can not provide a delivery service that works with their customer's schedule's and locations, then they should outsource it to a team/business that can. read more

I purchased 3 appliances. All 3 have required service or have had to be replaced from the beginning. I was told upgrading, spending for the best would be best. Saddly they sell the same junk appliance as box stores, but have an active service group(fab, but quality would be preferred). My wood floor is buckled and no success getting that covered. The service dept for repairs area joke. Again hoping for one dishwasher run without leaking, no luck.Foam came oozing out again. Last service they ordered a new piece of insulation thinking it was too bulky keeping the door open. Now its implied its the gasket, which I check carefully. So on an island they have accomplished stalling me thru the warranty, when I wanted it returned the first week. Now its too late they say and never have I had even one successful cycle with a Kichen aid. The thrill is gone. Happily all the service managers will pleasantly send you to the next manager. Bottom line, don't buy there. Its like putting money in a waste basket with a match. read more

I went in the store looking for a new washer and dryer for my home. I was remodeling and was interested in possibly getting some new units. I was in the store for some time with my nephew, there seemed to be two people working that could help me but they were both talking to each other. I then decided to get my old toploaders serviced to replace a few parts. One of the guys said that would not be a good idea, that I should really think about getting an outrageously priced washer. I'm not washing gold plated panties. I just needed a basic washer. By that point I was done wasting my time. I had my nephew look up local guys that did appliance repair and found a local guy between Warm Beach and Arlington. That guy said my old washer was one of the best ever made. He know so much about them I'd bet he could take one apart and put it back together faster than I could field strip my M16 back in the 60's. UPDATE: Tech came out and said we needed parts ordered. Said it would take about 2 weeks..... We waited two weeks and waited another two weeks. No updates from anyone. I called and it appeared there was no Information as parts being ordered. At this point I'm not surprised or least bit upset. I spoke with a supervisor and was told I'd get a free washer. Sales guy called and said replacement washer was another 3 weeks out! We have been dealing with this issue since October and this was the best they could do. In fact he told me I needed to wait just like everyone else. We were issued a store credit and I chose a front loader in hopes of a quick delivery and to be done with this! We ended up paying $100 PLUS Another $190 for warranty that should have transferred from previous washer sale. So $290 later im being told they have a brand new unit on the floor....Delivery a week out. Ha!! Imagine that! So another week goes by and Saturday was delivery. Delivery guys were awesome but this whole experience has been unnecessary! read more

In the last few years we have purchased all brand new major appliances between the Judd and Black in Mt Vernon and the one in Marysville. All costing about $9,000. Honestly, the purchasing part was great! No complaints there. The service department though; 13 months after replacing all the kitchen appliances the dishwasher stops. The service department came out charging $108. for the service call, obtained a receipt. Stating we needed a new control panel. With it being barely a year old we asked for them to hold off on ordering the part. I wanted to check if any recalls had been issued for the Maytag issue. When we learned there wasn't (within hours) we called back and gave the go ahead to order the part we knew there would be an additional fee for the part and told there WILL NOT be another service call fee. Everything gets fixed, life is good. A month goes by and in the mail arrives an invoice for the service fee. I called spoke to an office gal (sharon?) She said she would look into it and get back to us. We'll she found the invoice and because the tech didn't write paid on it. We owe the bill. I refused! We don't have an account there, we paid all monies owed, and I have a receipt. Nope another month, another invoice. Same calls. A few months I call and speak to the store manager (steve). Again he will check into it. I stated I would pay the bill again but, I would vow to not shop in their stores again too. Steve said to wait let him check into it. Next comes a letter from someone named Kyle, if we don't pay the $108. the account is going to collections. Then another statement. It is apparent: 1. Recordkeeping is an issue. 2. The will bill you even if you don't have an established account with the service department. 3. They do not communicate or follow through with saying they will. I DO NOT recommend. They apparently, feel their customer base is good enough to not give superior custmer service in regards to service and billing anyhow. If you do use the make certain PAID is on the receipt. Don't just assume a receipt is good enough for service! read more

I had an appliance repair company tell me I needed a control board for my Kitchen Air dishwasher at a cost of over $400. I had Judd and Black service come out for a second opinion. The technician was very knowledgeable and told me the only problem was the way the hoses ran from the dishwasher to the drain. Whatever he did fixed the problem ... for the price of a service call. They demonstrate integrity and I will never call anyone else again! read more

Bad experience all around with the Everett store. My husband and I spend over $10,000 at this store 2 years ago on brand new appliances. Hours late on initial delivery. The washer broke within 30 days of owning it. After about a 4 month battle, and a faulty repair, we were finally able to get a new one. Within 2 years, the dishwasher stopped cleaning and rinsing as it had before. When we had service out, they determined it was a heating element that needed to be replaced. $200 later, and the washer still isn't working, but they want more money to come back out and diagnose. It should be fixed for no additional cost! I would not recommend spending your hard earned money here! They do not value their customers, no matter what they say in their sales pitch. read more
