The only reason this place doesn't get a 1 star is that none of us got sick after dining here :) It would be a 3 if the food was even slightly better, but I'm putting them squarely at a 2 (my Beli score for them is between 1-2 so this makes sense). It's really just convenient for resort guests, and serves as the buffet restaurant too. You can either order buffet or a la carte. I perused the buffet options, which didn't look appealing at all. The a la carte options were your typical "heavy American fare" like burgers. I got the totchos, which are basically tater nots but nacho form. I'm not the biggest fan of jalapeños and sour cream, so maybe I should have requested a modification. But then it would have just been tater tots with tomatoes and onions. Not a 3 star dish. We got a corn bread to share, which was the only item I remotely found appealing. It was okay, but not as good as one I ate in Charleston, SC once. We thought the service was good despite a busy environment, up until our server spilled the rest of my dad's beer onto the table and me and my mom. read more

This restaurant is an extension of the horseshoe Bay resort. It has a very nice bar with televisions playing different shows. They have a decent wine list and they make good signature cocktails. We started with two Aperol spritz's. They were good, but I've had better, no prosecco was used and bubbles were no where present. The restaurant itself is not well lit for ambient effect. One observation that other yelpers have made, is the fact that the food menu is quite limited, which is true. That means we'll probably visit here again, but would not make it a regular stop due to the limited menu. You may see the words "the impossible" on the menu which refers basically to a vegan choice instead of meat. If it wasn't for the service being on point and the burger and fries worth every penny of $20, this would be a three and a halfstar review. Kudos to our server Nonku who was perfect. The next morning we had the breakfast buffet which was far better than anything you'll find at a Comfort Inn. There were very many options and everything was very fresh and of high quality which you would expect for $29 per person. And once again, the service was on point. read more

Just spent the weekend at Horseshoe Bay for a large wedding and had a fabulous time. The staff at J's were top notch. Ashley and her team handled the crowded bar with ease on Friday night and no one waited or left thirsty. They also made sure our dining experience was above our expectations. Hands down the best staff at any of the restaurants on property we experienced. They even dealt with a difficult customer with professionalism and made sure customers were not negatively impacted by the issues the guy was causing. read more

Had a business lunch here at the resort, and we dined at J's restaurant. It was a perfect vibe for a really casual lunch. It was clean, service was on point, and the food was good. I enjoyed the Caesar Salad with Grilled chicken. The chicken was cooked just the way I like it-juicy with plenty of grill marks. Would definitely come back here again! J's restaurant isn't just convenient for hotel guests, it's also a delicious, upscale, but friendly place to enjoy any meal. Our first meal at J's was dinner. Our server was Larkin. She was wonderful! So helpful and sweet! We started with the Mexican street corn chips appetizer. I wished they had a little more corn on them, but they were yummy. I had the salmon for my entree. It was cooked to perfection! The crispy potatoes are to die for! My husband had the Bad donkey sausage with potato salad, corn bread, baked beans, and side of brisket. He couldn't finish it all. We were pretty disappointed after dining here tonight. The server came by for our drink order, left for 10 minutes, came back for the appetizer order, stayed gone until that was ready, then finally took our entree order, then proceeded to stay MIA until that was ready. There were few, if any, follow-up questions, checking on us/or the food questions, or frequent visits. The food portions, like the cornbread, were also laughably small. I'll go ahead and throw in another review for the bar as well - the pours are lightweight and the drinks are over priced. We had the rainbow trout with a tomato compote and the sausage and corn appetizer which was delicious. The food is good but the menu is too limited. We stayed for 5 days and between hanging out by the pool and eating meals here, we exhausted all options on the menu. BBQ is ok. This place was only okay I was so excited to eat here but it was a let down. We arrived at this restaurant at around 1:20ish. We sat at our table for about 15 minutes till they brought us water and asked for a drinks. After that it took 10 minutes to bring out 2 drinks and take into consideration there are about 12 waiter and waitress. When we ordered our food I made it clear I had a gluten allergy and after waiting for a good 35 minutes I got a pulled pork sandwich and it was not on a gluten free bun. Also, our food was cold. We stared to eat and the food was okay. Also one of the people in my party had a piece of plastic in their celery. Also our waiter did not get us our check when we asked for it and he did not know how to split a bill in half. So disappointed in the service at this restaurant. We went to the resort to celebrate my husbands birthday after a longggg work week and we were looking to celebrate and have a great time. We were literally the only people in the restaurant and we weren't served for over 20 minutes. I had to wave the host over and mentioned this, and he waived over the waitress who then proceeded to look at him and say "oh am i taking the order?"...then she takes our order and never checks back in, our waters not refilled, no drink orders taken or refilled. Then she brings our food, and other than asking if it looked good, never came back to our table. Didn't refill our waters the entire meal..I don't mean to be snobby but you know the Driskill Hotel? Downtown austin, that's my family's...started by my family, I know hotel service and this resort service does not stack up. The fact that on my husband's birthday I'm having to drink his water..when there are literally no other customers in the entire restaurant is honestly preposterous. When we asked the host what was going on we were informed the waitress was prepping for closing 1 hour prior to the restaurant closing. Not attending to live sitting customers...prepping so she could go home early. Then when we talked to the manager about the situation he brushed it off and didn't handle it well at at. Telling us the server was new..Oh so she can't serve 1 table at a time? That's sad, the standards need to be risen for the wait staff then because the clients expect more of the server especially if they can't wait on 1 table at a time....During the meal the manager looked over at us several times (the only customers in the restaurant) knowing we'd already made a complaint about the level of service, and he proceeded to choose to not come over and speak to us or try to make us feel better. no, he actually looked at us 5-6 different times and kept walking. awkward but this manager doesn't seem to understand what resort style service is when the meals average over $100 a ticket. I expected more and not like crazy more but again, we were literally the only customers in the entire restaurant. Disappointed can't even begin to describe how we feel. Eat anywhere else but this restaurant if you're coming to HSB resort. Otherwise you will be guaranteed disappointment. read more
