Supposed to change all plugs in a ford truck which sometimes they break off that was 2years ago. Had the problem again a month ago pulled out one plug totally disintegrated the whole half a plug changed 5 newer plugs and 2 more would not come out , well if all were new they would come out after 2 years and besides that there were 2 different brands of plugs in the engine . I was pissed they charged me for 8 plugs and another 75 each for 3 supposed broken plugs which 2 will still not come out without breaking. My husband is receiving treatment at the Huntsman Cancer Center and we are not from here, so when our car started having car issues we panicked. I looked online for the closest repair shop and found JRs. I called in tears and explained our situation and was told to bring my car in ASAP. Upon arriving they went to work in diagnosing what was wrong, instead of taking advantage of our vulnerability they did totally the opposite, they explained in terms we could understand what was happening and what we needed to do to fix the issue. My husband was to report the next morning for surgery and they could see the fear I was in and eased my fear by telling me that if I continued to have car issues to bring my car back in first thing the next morning and the would make sure it was road worthy and would help make sure my husband got to his appointment on time and would work on our car for us. When I tried to pay them for looking at our car they would not allow for it. Sadly my husband and I will be traveling back and forth to Utah many more times for his treatments but you can bet if we encounter any more car troubles my first call will be to JRs. If you live in Clearfield and you need any repairs done that you can't do yourself; I have to put in a plug for JR auto service. He is a no BS type of a guy trying to run an honest business and they are good. So my experience was with a rear bearing hub assembly and brakes and rotors. But first let me tell you who not to go to. Two weeks before we had been in to Fowers auto and had just a terrible experience. I asked them to check my brakes while they were doing the safety check and everything because we were about to embark on the longest haul with my vehicle and a heavy trailer. I was a little apprehensive. They told me I had well over a year before I'd need new brakes. Well on our way home I heard a terrible grinding sound and I knew I was metal on metal, never a good thing when you don't have a heavy trailer. With one it was very dangerous seeing that I was already headed down a very long and windy canyon. So it was obvious the techs never check my brakes because you don't go from decent life in your brakes to metal on metal in a week. So now I needed new rotors because the grooves were so deep they couldn't turn them. Fowers service also told me my service would take 1-2hrs it took nearly 8hrs and simple because someone forgot to call the parts warehouse and ask for the filter. When they finally made the call the part was there in 15min. They also changed their final price from their orginal quote. SO now to JR's I went in there after having researched costs for parts on the wheel hub bearing assembly. For good ones they were around 150-200 per hub. Youtube multiple posters said hire someone because this particular model was a nightmare to change. So I called the dealer, 1400 for them to do it. WoW! Meineke 700. This is for one side. So I went into JR's and told him what I was quoted from Nampa, Autozone and a few otjhers. He called his warehouse and they were a lot more he chewed them out for a bit in front of me then said you go get the part and this is my hourly rate. He check his repair book and it said 3.3 hrs for this repair, the same i had been told by others. He was shocked because he said they shouldn't take more than an hr per side. So i went home and continued looking an ended up picking bearing hub assemblies off of Amazon for $40. JR's repaired on side them tested and said the other was out as well. In the end it cost us $157 per side and that included the part. Do the math, we got both sides done for half of what Meineke quoted us and a fraction of the dealership wanted for just one side. The part I bought on Amazon was the OEM part. I told you he did our brakes and rotors as well. He was a little more than Meineke like $20 more but he was worth it. I had asked him the brand he was using and I also asked Meineke what brand they were using and then I asked some mechanic friends for their input on the brands and checked the cost of the parts. JR was using the highest quality part offered while Meineke was using the cheapest. I asked JR why he used the most expensive one and he said, "I don't want to have to warranty them" he also told me that he has never had someone come back and tell him they went out. So to sum it up JR Auto Service uses quality parts, and will tell you if you can get them part cheaper by yourself. They work fast, they have reasonable prices and are willing to work with you. JR is the type of shop that is closest to what my grandfathers shop would have been like other than their are a few more tatoos in JR's shop. Support your local guy he is worth it. read more
