Turns out the old pipe was a 3" pipe, and should've been a 4", it also had a couple of 45° angles in it, and someone years back had tried to snake it with a 1/2" piece of pvc which had snapped off inside and was creating a terrible clog. We helped dig it out and chatted. He's very mellow and personable and humorous! He was pretty booked, too, but managed to squeeze us in after another job, which was great, especially considering it was right before a major week-long snow storm.
