Our waiter took our drink orders, and brought us a complimentary basket of freshly made bread. It was really good. For appetizers, we got the hot antipasto for 2 as well as an order of calamari. My favorites from the hot antipasto were the eggplant rollatini and clams oreganata, but everything tasted great. For my entree, i got the Sicilian short rib, which was served with a wild mushroom risotto. The short rib was a huge portion for the price, an entire short rib. It was tender, well seasoned, and delicious. The mushroom risotto was very savory and rich. I would definitely order this again. I'd definitely return to this spot.

I've driven…read moreby this pizza shop many times over the years but it was always at an odd hour when they were closed, so I took this as an opportunity to check it out. Johnny Napkins is a chain of pizza shops (they recently opened a location in Cranford) and it definitely has a sense of humor about itself. When you walk in the walls are painted with various characters including their mascot "Johnny Napkins". It really adds a fun feel to the space. They have plenty of seating including large tables with about 6-8 tall seats around them and a bar where individuals can sit and eat. Shakers with garlic salt, pepper and more are spread throughout the eatery so you can spice up your slices. The main counter has a glass case with a bunch of square and round pies on display. I wound up getting a slice with mushrooms and a BBQ chicken slice. Service was super friendly and efficient. These folks were *busy* with a constant stream of walk-ins and phone calls at the same time. I was very impressed. My slices came quickly and I sat at the counter to enjoy my food. The slice with mushrooms was excellent. Nicely heated up, a good crust and just the right amount of cheese. It was not too salty and had plenty of flavor. The BBQ chicken slice however featured a thicker crust (even though it was a slice from a round pie). I prefer a thinner crust but this was still good with a nice chew. The only reservation I had were the chunks of chicken themselves. They were a *tad* dry but this was the last slice on the platter, so I imagine it had been there for a minute (and I knew this, so this one's on me). I'm really glad I stopped into Johnny Napkins. Now I know it's a good slice and will definitely visit any of their locations in the future.

The owner was friendly as soon as we walked in and told us it would be about 8 minutes for the pizza- super fast! I would be surprised if he even crossed the minute mark before it was in the oven. Great conversation with the owner while we waited, and learned he had a spot near Asbury Park before moving here and opening this location. They do some cool things like "2 foot slices" (for those days you only want a slice lol). Countless specialty pies if you are in the mood for unique offerings. A large cheese pie is less than what you would pay at a chain- that's a huge win win- support local! After getting our hot pizza, my wife and I knew 2 bites in that we would be coming back. Great flavor on the sauce and quality cheese. They cook their pies half in the pan and half on the stone and the crust is almost airy with just the right amount of crunch at the end. We loved talking to Joe about his fav spots in NJ and NY- and he is a pretty humble owner that gives flowers to the spots that he thinks are doing it right. Will definitely be back! Pro tip: Don't be embarrassed when Joe asks if you need a box for leftovers and you realize there are no leftovers!
