We really wanted to like this place - and I'll tell you, the food was good. But the charges, some of which were hidden, were just ridiculous and we were a bit dumbfounded when our bill came. A family of 4 at a pub type restaurant - $97. For that price, we could've gone to Massa's, Maggiano's, Pasta House, Sybergs, any number of restaurants I would expect to pay close to $100 for a party of 4. We ordered two draft beers and two sodas. The beers were $5.50 and $6.00, nothing too crazy. The soda for our kids (17 and 3), were $3.50 each. I should have looked to see if a kids meal included a drink, which of course it didn't. Had I checked, we certainly wouldn't have spent $3.50 on a soda for a toddler. That I will chalk up to being our error. We ordered one appetizer, the fried pickle chips. They were very good, but the portion was incredibly small for the $9.25 we spent on them. We all got to have 3-4 pickle chips, that was it. The pickles come with a spicy ranch. We asked for a side of regular ranch for the kids. When we got the bill we found out we were charged $0.75 for that. Considering we only had a few chips each, it hardly seemed worth it. Our toddler got the chicken tender meal, with came with 2 good sized chicken tenders and fries, for $7.00. Definitely the best value of the meal. Our teenager ordered the chicken & waffles appetizer ($14.00) and a side of fries ($4.00). When it came out, it was 2 good sized chicken tenders in what I would describe as a fluffy waffle cone. When it came down to it, her appetizer and fries was $18, and it was the same exact thing our toddler got for $7, just without the weird waffle cone thing, which was certainly not worth the $11 difference in cost. The two adults got a Reuben meal and a smashburger meal. The Reuben came with fries and was $16.50. It was good, nothing special. The smashburger meal also came with fries and was $12.50, plus $1.00 for cheese, which was stated on the menu. Of course I added the cheese, so it was $13.50. Then the fries - I asked if I could upgrade the fries to the poutine fries (which were offered as an appetizer only). I knew there would be a charge if they did it. The server wasn't sure so he had to ask. When he returned to the table, I was informed that the upgrade would be $6.00. The full appetizer serving of poutine was $13.50. SIX DOLLARS to add a little gravy, 4-5 cheese curds and a sprinkling of green onions. Keep in mind, my meal already came with fries, so it was just the toppings I was paying for. I found it to be quite ridiculous, but I didn't argue, and I went ahead and ordered them because poutine is hard to find. They were good, but not worth that price. And they had a very "powdered gravy" aftertaste to them. The burger was good. It came with lettuce, tomato and pickles. I asked for mayonnaise as well. Then when the bill came I found out we were charged $0.40 for it. I've never been charged for mayo when ordering a burger, since it is a pretty standard topping. I wonder if I asked for no pickles or no lettuce if they would have reduced the price of the burger for the ingredients I didn't want. I highly doubt it. Then the final blow came. Once we got over the shock of the itemized bill, we saw the total of $97.06, and directly under that it said the price would be $94.23 if we opted to pay with cash. I wish we carried cash, that would have made up for one of the $3.50 drinks. But in the end, we literally got charged to pay. At this point, I guess I should be happy we weren't assessed a table usage fee, or a surcharge for wear and tear on the chairs. This place has potential if they modify the way they do business or create a better value for the money experience. But until then, I won't be paying $100 for their pub food again. read more

We just moved to the area and decided to give JP's a try, as we love to support locally owned small businesses. Let me tell you, we were NOT disappointed! The JP's smash burger was HUGE and FILLED bacon and sautéed onions. The Sicilian meatballs were amazing as well. (Almost) Everything is made in house and from scratch. Started going here shortly after they opened and go back frequently since it's close to our house. Owners are regularly there and checking on customers. We've always had great food from appetizers, to giant chopped salad, twisted Reuben and some amazing off menu items. Our favorite thing about the place is AMY our favorite bartender! I'm in love with the Monte Cristo. I used to drive 1.5hrs away to get a Bennigan's Monte Cristo and they closed so I have been on the search for one that was as good as that one and I found it at JP's Hideout!! OMG it is delicious and made exactly the same way. Seriously obsessed. Another pleasant surprise is how good the french fries are. They were so hot and crispy, I am guessing maybe a double fry on them, I don't know but they are crispy outside, tender inside and just the right salt/seasoning. We also tried the GIANT pretzel which is also very good and the cheese that comes with it, quite delicious!! I have only been once, will be going back this weekend and am going to give that Smashburger a try, I think, maybe the poutine, maybe fish and chips... looks like I have a few visits ahead of me. The service was AMAZING, our server was very nice, professional, made sure we had everything we needed but didn't hover. Table service is usually horrible. We went there with friends last Sunday evening the 24th, and even though they weren't very busy, both of the servers ignored our table completely. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks and get our own menus. We ordered from Annie at the bar and she was very pleasant to deal with. I want to start this off by saying that we eat at JP's at least once a week. We love the people, food and drinks. However, the last two times we have been (in a week) we sat at the bar like usual but things were different. Brandy took our order quickly both times we had to literally fight for her attention after that. Tonight, we sat next to an old friend (male) and another dude. Both has water and beer refills before us. The food took forever and when it arrived she never checked back to see if we needed anything. When we finally got her attention she rudely got what we needed. Then the bill came. I knew I only had three drinks because it took an eternity for me to get my second and third. I pointed out that I had 3 not 4 - which was on the bill - and when Brandy returned my bill, which she has already run on my credit card, it was the same amount. She did not remove the extra drink and she did not include the revised bill. I let it go and still tipped 20% because that is what we do. But in the future, if we return and Brandy is working I will turn around and walk out. To Brandy, you don't need to cheat people to make money. Pay attention and we would top you more. I got a monte cristo and it was kinda greasy I mean it's a deep fried sandwich but I have had them before that weren't so greasy. I ate some and gave some to my hubby and I ate part of his burger. I visited the establishment on 3/17. The service was very slow. I had to stop the waitress several times to get drinks ordered . I was very dísapointed with the teddygraham and the expresso martini and it was made incorrectly not sure if the bSrtender thought I would know how the expresso martini is made. The. So we came in at 7:30. Busy, but not packed. Told to seat ourselves. We picked seats at the bar. Lady asks us for our drinks. Brings them pretty quickly then asks if we need a menu. We waited 10 minutes(with several moments of shared eye contact) for the bar tender to get us menus. Fed up with waiting, at this point I got up and asked a server if we could move to her section. It took us around an hour total before our food arrived. I got the roasted chicken. Delicious. The veggies made the dish. My bf got the double patty burger and loved it. The flavor was great, it was juicy and tender. Place is clean and pretty much like what you'd expect from a tavern. I would have given it a higher rating, but the experience with the older blonde bartender chick just irritated me. It was obvious she did not care about us at all. Myself and a few guys from work went for happy hour after work Friday. The food is pretty tasty with a decent choice of beer however, the wait staff might need a clean up. He managed to get food out , talk to not just us but even the tables around us and was sure to bus our table which the waitress failed to do. My recent experience there was a perfect storm of bad service and terrible food. My friend and I met up for dinner and drinks. I sat down and it took the waitress nearly 10 minutes to come take my drink order. I ordered the poutine with brisket as well, which was pretty good (the brisket was chewy but at least tasted good). She came back about 10 minutes later asking me what I had ordered to drink. 10 minute later, she brought the wrong drink to me and asked me if I wanted this one instead of the one I had ordered because "she rang it up wrong". Her taking 10 minutes between busy visits on a fairly slow night was pretty much routine for the evening. My friend ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the double smash burger. The patties are definitely not smashed like you would expect from a smash burger, but the burger was pretty decent. The fish on the other hand was a totally different story. It was bland (like no seasoning used at all), mushy, and ultimately made him sick that evening and the next day. We continue to have drinks but near the end, she was clearly ready for us to go and close out our checks. When I asked her what time she closed she responded with him, a long pause, and then gave the closing time, which was two hours later. Why on earth were we being rushed out? Afterwards, she greeted us with a particularly obnoxious and loud yawn. I know this probably goes without saying but I will never go back there. read more

Gotten the double smashburger, which was great, made with ground chuck, brisket and short rib... very good and very different. Bun doesn't overwhelm the meat. I got Potato Mash for a side, delicious with some chunks and brown gravy. Wife got roasted veggies, which were real veggies and not frozen. Guy at the counter said the only thing frozen is the fries. Today, got the Twisted Rueben with smoked brisket and smoked cabbage... land the Potato Mash again. Best Rueben ever. Wife got grilled fish tacos and veggies. Super clean first impression. They em were covid compliant with hand sanitizer and socially distanced tables. I was only in for a to go order tho. Was greeted and offered a place to sit and a drink while I waited for my food. Plenty of TVs were on there were folks enjoying the patio also. And I think a couple was pulling up on a golf cart when I was leaving with my food . Food was actually much better than I thought it was going to be.
