We visited JP Hideout's for dinner before a soccer game. While the restaurant was somewhat busy, we arrived two and a half hours early, expecting plenty of time for a relaxed meal. We were seated on the patio and initially greeted by our server, who brought our first round of drinks promptly. Unfortunately, the service went downhill from there. We waited a long time for our second round of drinks and eventually had to flag down another staff member to locate our server. By this point, we had already placed our food order. Over an hour passed with no updates, so I had to seek out our server again. She informed us the food was on its way, then returned shortly after to tell us the kitchen was out of mac & cheese for the kids--something we should've been told much earlier. About ten minutes later, our meals arrived. I had ordered the fish and chips, and upon breaking into one of the pieces, I discovered a long green strand of hair embedded in the fish--possibly from a St. Patrick's Day, given the color and size. We requested to speak with a manager. When she arrived, her response was dismissive. She simply said they were busy, offered no apology, no solution, and took no responsibility for the issues we experienced. She didn't offer to remake the dish or even package something to-go. Her attitude reflected a serious lack of professionalism and care. To make matters worse, a spicy chicken wrap we ordered came with grilled chicken instead of crispy, was overloaded with lettuce, and barely had any meat. At that point, we didn't even bother raising the issue--it was clear nothing would be addressed. As a former server myself, I fully understand how hectic restaurant work can be. But being busy should never be an excuse for poor service, lack of communication, or unsanitary food. What's most disappointing is that no one--from our server to the manager--took accountability for the experience or offered a sincere apology. They did remove the fish from the bill, but the overall experience was so poor that we will not be returning and will spread awareness so other families do waste their money. read more

Walked in for an early dinner on a Friday. Place was about three quarters full. Might get a bit crowded during the usual rush, so be aware. Sign said seat yourself so we did. Only took a couple or three minutes before menus were delivered and drinks were ordered. Started off with a pretzel. It was huge and served right - fresh, hot and on a hanger. Delivered by one of the owners with a smile. Good pretzel, good sauces. I have a special weakness for deep fried food, so I had to try the deep fried Monte Cristo with the strawberry rhubarb compote. It did not disappoint. It seems to be a signature dish. Not sure where the inspiration for that came from, but it would not be out of place at the Texas State Fair (where they deep fry anything and everything). Decor is...neighborhood bar? Wow! Brisket poutine was the bomb. Fries and cheese and brisket with some kind of reduction. Also had the Jp double smash burger. Very tasty. Brisket plays big on the menu. We didn't try the t-ravs but the menu said they were brisket filled. The bar atmosphere was very good at lunch time. Lots of tvs to choose from with varying channels. We were asked to seat ourselves We got the big pretzel as an appetizer and that was good. I ordered this fish tacos grilled with roasted veggies (All zucchini wtf) the wife got a smash burger and fries. My fish tacos were not seasoned so really bland. The wife reported the same with her burger. I ate the tacos because I'm a dude. And the wife got a togo box for the dogs (FYI they liked it) we got the food and then noticed that we had no silverware... So it took a bit to flag down a waitress. Didn't get any refills on sodas tipped 20+% So on the bill there is a cash price and a credit price... It seems we threw a wrench in the checkout process by paying with $20s and asking for change. So you sort of get punished by paying with cash... Whatever we probably won't be back. I probably rated this place higher than I should have. TL;DR Overrated high priced food. Atmosphere was good. I never give 1 star, but I have too as I am positive I received food poisoning from here. I wasn't super hungry, so I got the chili for lunch. It was the only thing I was going to eat yet that day & I was drinking water. It came out with crackers & looked decent. It tasted fine too. After eating, hanging out with family for a bit, paying, and going on my merry way, it hit me on the drive home....not a good experience at all. Lots of heavy wood tables and a spacious dining room provide social distancing security and comfort. QR codes on tables continue COVID safety for touchless menus. A patio offers outdoor seating for the few wonderful weather days St. Louis enjoys. With TVs all over the place I first thought I'd stepped into a sports bar. However, the TVs were quiet, providing only the seemingly requisite video distraction without the audio barrage of a sports bar. The menu is pretty focused, which is another way of saying it's limited: about six selections each of apps and sandwiches, and four each of entrees and salads. I was thinking I'd have a Club sandwich--not uncommon in a bar but not available here. But, the smash cheeseburger tempted and turned out to be an excellent choice. It was thick and huge and fried perfection on an equally perfect toasted bun. Cheddar cheese was smoked; and, lightly dilled pickles had a tinge of sweetness that produced a nice sweet and sour balance. Burgers and sandwiches come with fries and salad. In a moment of weakness that I should eat more healthy food, I chose the side salad. I chose poorly. The vinaigrette dressing was terrific. The croutons were outstanding. The lettuce was iceberg. When you work with iceberg you have a pretty high hill to climb to make it flavorful (IMHO). Service was also outstanding and in the pre-noon hour it was nice to have an extended chat with a knowledgeable server about the meal and some area BBQ spots we both enjoyed. read more

I'm really glad this space reopened with a bar and grill. My friend and I shared several items since it was our first visit. Fried pickle slices and poutine to start-delish! And we ordered a double smash burger and side salad to share. Now this was a delicious burger, but I don't consider it a smash burger. One patty would have been enough since they were thick. And it didn't have the signature crispy edges. None of this is a complaint. I'd order it again. I appreciate that the music was at a level where we could still have a conversation. My wife and I stopped in here on an early Sunday afternoon, and it was not very crowded. We ordered Brisket Toasted Raviolis as an appetizer, which sounded good on paper but were not good in reality. The filling had little taste at all. We ordered two burgers, and overall the burgers were good, but very expensive for the amount of food received. We were also charged something like $1 each for a tiny cup of ranch and bbq sauce. Our waitress did a good job and was friendly. However, we asked that one of the TVs near us be changed to literally anything other than horse racing (there are many TVs here on the wall). Our waitress hunted down the remote and changed it for us, but a rude older man behind the bar changed it back within a couple minutes. We will likely not return, due to the behavior of the man behind the bar and the overall value. read more

Unless you are a regular do not expect good service. We have tried JP's a number of times but the last two were disappointing. We chalked up the last time to the fact that it was busy, but tonight it wasn't. We waited a very long time for food only to find out that they lost the order. The server apologized only after we noticed that table next to us, who ordered after us, had gotten their food and actually left before ours came out. They comped our drinks which was fine, but we certainly noticed the owner avoiding us while talking to all the other tables. It would have gone a long way if he would have stopped by to say something but he clearly knew we were waiting and never bothered. He had no problem stopping by the table next to us to top off their drink and apologize for that wait, but we must not have been important enough. It took the server 10 mins after they dropped off the check to pick up my card. Again, they were not busy, she was in the corner talking with the other servers while we were waiting to leave. I'm only writing this because this is the second time its happened. A friend & I wandered into JP's by chance, and let me say we will return. Atmosphere was fun, good music plying plus several TV's playing sports. Service exceptional, everyone was helping each other. It was a Sunday, so we got 2 Bloody Mary's, very tasty. The food was great! The make their own ranch dressing, which everyone who loves ranch knows that's important. My wife and I drove around for 45 minutes trying to find a place to eat on a Friday night. We stumbled upon JP's Hideout. This building has seen many restaurants come and go over the years so we were hopeful that this will stop that trend. We walked in and were greeted immediately by an employee which was great. We located two seats at the bar that weren't occupied. We took a second to look around at the interior, the design and decor. They did a very good job putting JP's together on the inside. Very inviting , some place you are not in a hurry to eat and leave. We started with an appetizer, the chicken strips served inside a waffle cone. The strips were good, a little over cooked but definitely not inedible. A little less time in the friar and they would have been real good. The bbq sauce was very tasty. The only feedback on the strips were a little seasoning on the skin ( besides the honey drizzle). The waffle cone was delicious. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich with grilled vegetables. The chicken was a little dry, but she said the vegetables were delicious. I ordered the Twisted Rueben with fries. The sandwich was good, not great. Could use a little more sauce on it. A little dry. After dinner I ordered a pour of Four Roses single barrel whiskey which was delicious and to my pleasure only 7.00 for a pour. Overall we enjoyed our visit here and will definitely return. JPs Hideout has a lot of good things on the menu. The interior was chillier than either of us cared for, so we enjoyed the patio. Our server, Deja, was absolutely excellent and her cheerfulness made for a pleasant experience. Deja did stop by and check on us after a few bites. Something quite basic every server should do, but often not done elsewhere.I highly recommend the Monte Cristo. A sandwich dipped and fried in egg batter and served with strawberry jam. Sandy enjoyed her fish tacos, battered and fried Icelandic cod. The grilled veggies we opted for instead of fries were ok, but the faint rosemary flavor, which I personally don't care for, could have been better if the veggies had been steamed and covered in a cheesey, perhaps buttery sauce. As it was, the veggies were rather tasteless. However, the Monte Christo and the fish tacos were the star of the show. We have been here twice now and we are batting 100%. We will be back! Recently moved to the St Charles area and the first place we tried was JP's! Service was outstanding & extremely attentive. The owner came by and chatted with us about the menu & even made me a smokey+spicy mezcal cocktail which was incredible. Solid menu, something for everyone. We ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, the Twisted Reuben sandwich & the Fish Tacos. Let me tell you, all three were absolutely perfection! Couldn't stop drooling. The flavors were divine!! Can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu. Everyone else at my table loved what they had and the burgers look to be fantastic. I had the fish and chips and I wish ida had the burger. The fish was over cooked and was not worth the re-order. Absolutely amazing place. The food is spectacular, especially their Monty Christo (an absolute must try). It never takes long either for you food to come out, so there isn't much wait. Poor service can destroy good food. Ordered a couple drinks and two meals. My wife's came out at least twenty minutes after ordering then mine a good fifteen minutes after hers. Had to go to the bar to pay our bill as our waitress disappeared. Left half of my meal as I was not going to ask for a box. Never again will I be back.
