JPizle, a columbian themed restaurant, is a true find and a great value. Located on center street, Jamaica Plain, a few blocks off the neighborhood center, this is a winner. It's basically a total makeover of the old Robinwood Cafe. The food is authentic, plentiful, delicious, original and clearly cooked with love. The staff are very, very attentive. The layout is well suited for those with Covid concerns, as there are several booths and lots of space between tables overall. The menu is very complete, with many, many options. There is clearly a lot of emphasis on brunch type offerings. But there is basically everything you'd want. Entrees, tapas, brunch style breakfasts and so on.' There's a small bar with a large TV for the sports minded, but again the layout is such that if you're not right at the bar, the TV isn't even heard or noticed. Their hours are currently about 7-3 Monday through Thursday, but open until 8 on weekends. I encouraged them to extend their weekend hours til 9 for more later dinner types. We went to day for the first time. It was Great ,large portions and the service was outstanding. Our server was Elijah very nice person very friendly, happy go lucky personality. Right on top of our coffee needs he called our coffee Intravenous. The place was busy , free parking lot is about a 1/2 block away on the same side as restaurant. Came in at 7:30 am and it was empty. The place has a very old school cafe feel, though everything was clean and felt new. The employees were nice, but real, not fake friendly like at some chains. It was entertaining to eve's drop on their banter. I got the Country Breakfast with fried chicken, two eggs sunny side up, and marbled rye toast. The eggs were perfectly runny and I enjoyed soaking up the yolks with my toast. The chicken was crispy, but I prefer battered fried chicken over crusted as it came. The gravy was good but I wish there was more of it. The portion was huge, and despite my large appetite, I couldn't finish it. And with a price tag of $13.56 after tax (and with iced tea), it was a great bargain. I love trying new Jamaica Plain restaurants and this one was pretty good. read more

I was excited to support a local, small business vs a franchise like IHOP. My experience today: 1. Interior entrance was littered with leaves that presumably blew in from the door being open to facilitate easy service to outside tables, but wouldn't have hurt the staff to sweep them up and dispose of them, say hourly? 2. Seat yourself seating, first table was sticky. Second table was sticky. Asked waitress to wipe down table. She missed spots. Was still sticky. Perhaps needed more than just water for wipe down? 3. Ordered a strawberry shake. 10mins later. Waitress says they're out of strawberry shakes but I can have vanilla or chocolate, OR a strawberry smoothie...but why not take the strawberries from the smoothie to make the strawberry shake? ...I ordered juice. 4. My co-diner ordered a dish that comes with toast. I ordered one that did not, so I asked for a side of toast. Both of us ordered white toast. Waitress brings me wheat toast, which I was fine to eat, but never brings the white toast that accompanies the first dish. Waitress seemed visibly distressed over the request for the toast. 5. Co-diner finishes her meal before the toast even arrives. 6. Food was fine. Eggs tasty. But nothing that wowed me over just going to IHOP. 7. Decor and ambiance nothing special, lacking really. 8. Adjacent table of 4 people received their food at different times, and one of their dishes had incorrect eggs. Overall, seemed like the staff was overwhelmingly busy although there were only 6 occupied tables, including both indoors and out. We had a horrible experience at JPizel.... we went for breakfast, my friend had ordered fried chicken and eggs, I ordered eggs, toast, and turkey bacon... what could go wrong? Glad you asked, THE CHICKEN WAS NOT COOKED, the eggs still had slime on them, and the turkey bacon, NOT COOKED. When I pointed it out to our waiter, who has been there for 9 years and should have known better, he said he was terribly sorry, and would talk to the cook in the kitchen. NOT GOOD ENOUGH, THE BREAKFAST SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE BILL. After 9 years, he should have known that. And I should have insisted, but instead we just left. That was my fault. We will NEVER go back and intend to tell our story to anybody who will listen. Including the dinner party I will be at tonight. Not to difficult to make eggs guys.. came to show support to my fellow Colombians but was very disappointed to find out it is all but authentic , this arepa should have had some fresh butter spread with fresh quezo fresco or a mild mozzarella cheese on top , instead I got four slices of melted American cheese, this is unacceptable to say it's Colombian , I also had the Bandeja paisa which looked good but didn't look like the traditional dish it also lacked the Sazón and seasoning ingredients that a traditional Colombian bandeja paisa would have in flavor . I couldn't not let this live down so I told the waiter which told the cook , the cook came out and asked me why didn't i think it wasn't Colombian , I told him just because has some ingredients like it doesn't mean it tastes like it the meats where bland no seasoning or color to them and the rice portion was very skimp I had more beans than rice and for a 25$ entree it sure didn't live up to its value ,, that being the true value of flavor and portion . The cook told me he was Mexican and the he has been to Colombia and tasted the food , I was like well buddy huh looks like you didn't take notes .. and thats when it all made sense to me . I think the owner or head chef needs further train his cooks on how to properly prepare the food with the right seasonings ingredients And sazons . There is not many Colombian restaurant at all in the area I'd like to see this place improve their Colombian cuisine flavor because it's all but Colombian . Was excited to try out this place so went for breakfast. The food was alright, small portions but the service was not great. Waited 10 min standing by the door before being acknowledged and sat at a table, about 20 min for someone to take our order, another 20 min for the coffee, and almost 30 min since ordering we finally got our food. I did not have a good experience here. I came for breakfast and the menu has no Colombian options. A restaurant with no less than 3 signs stating it is a Colombian restaurant should serve Colombian food all day. I don't understand why you would advertise as such and only serve after 4/5. This is an American restaurant that sometimes has Colombian specials. The Colombian omelet is the only thing on the menu that tries to be Colombian in the morning. Arepas are a breakfast food. Why can't they replace the omelet with an arepa with egg queso blanco and maduros? Also very concerning that in the covid era we have fans blowing, employees not covering their nose with their mask, and reusable menus (QR codes are the way of the future). Overall I will not be returning but hope they see the opportunity of being full time Colombian if advertising as such! read more

I just had a meal I thought was okay. The service was terrible and my friend's food was awful and it arrived after I finished eating. I had the egg with spinach and beacon on toasted marble rye. The rye was not toasted BTW. In any case it tasted fine. about 1/2 hour later on my way home I started getting terrible stomach cramps. I could barely get up my stairs. Needless to say I was ill, no need to describe how, use your imagination. I believe the spinach was not well washed, or the egg was old, or the conditions are just dirty (the place is not very clean). In anywise I would suggest staying away. For the record I had no other food today, so my illness could only be from their "food". read more

Ordered huevos rancheros: baby "greens" under the overcooked eggs were mostly yellowed with som slimy ones, too. just disgusting. couple of very small, thin slices of underripe avocado added nothing. Taco was so touh it couldn't be easily cut with a knife. Taco smelled and tasted very stale. Taco was just unpleasant but not as yucky as slimy greens. Service very slow, no friendliness, and no check in from silent waitress to ask about our satisfaction r to refill the "endless" cup of coffee. Despite confirming that one diner ordered scrambled eggs, she brought the dish with one fried egg and disappeared quickly. I'd give a one star rating except the coffee was okay, nothing to get excited about but at least drinkable. Find somewhere else to avoid the uncaring and error prone service and the low quality food. Still cringing at the thought of kitchen hygiene and still have a bad taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally. read more

By keeping the exact same menu of a business that was around for decades you're not managing the expectations of your long time customers properly. If you can't make eggs Benedict well, that's fine, but take it off the menu. This was one of the best breakfasts I've had out. Nothing fancy, eggs, toast, home-fries, sausage(my choice). Oh, because I had a hard time choosing, I got a side of corned beaf hash, too. Everything was wonderfully finessed, not rushed, just thrown together and overcooked, like many breakfasts can be. You might think, "how hard is it to cook an egg?", but I have had many a robbery or watery egg. These were perfection, over easy, light and fluffy. The home fries were wonderfully seasoned, the toast buttered, the sausage somewhere between a regular breakfast sausage and an Irish banger with substance. It's happened multiple times where I order pickup, I get there to pickup my food at the designated time and they tell me it's another 20 minutes before my food is done. I understand it gets busy. But at least let people know or give them an adjusted pick up time. Literally wasted close to 40 minutes waiting, just to have no food. read more

This is one of my favourite spots to go for comfort food! I love their corned beef hash and potatoes, their eggs are always fluffy, and the pancakes are HUGE. I had a burger there that was absolutely incredible!! Service is a little slow at peak times but all the employees are so nice. Really the only thing that needs improvement is their coffee - it's usually either watered down or a bit burnt. Maybe better beans? Either way, it won't stop me from coming here. Yum!!! read more

This has been a favorite haunt of mine for many years. Their menu has been greatly improved and their prices remain very reasonable. Cindy and Mike are the warmest people one could ever hope to meet and I know all of their exceptional staff. Even more, they all know my name! Recently, they opened back up for dinner. Their menu is phenomenal and their evening prices are quite reasonable. I've tried a large number of the different offerings from their new menu. Favorites are a new, unnamed dish that just was created by Yohan and Mike with chicken and tamarind sauce on a "cake" of rice and plantains. AMAZING! One of my other absolute favorites is the Chuleta con Cerdo. Delicious. Their flan is out of this world and I have tried both their guava flan and their passion fruit flan. Sweet deliciousness! I live nearby, so I really want this place to be my go to breakfast spot, but I just can't. I have been consistently disappointed by the food (before and after the change in ownership). Service is great! Friendly folks. The way they disappoint is entirely baffling. My latest was a waffle. I was charged $7 and served about half a waffle on a big plate. It was about the size of a large piece of toast. It would have been fine if there had been three that size (which would have cost them an extra $0.15, possibly), but no, just a tiny waffle. I went home to have a snack afterward. Even more bizarrely, the french toast, WHICH IS $0.50 CHEAPER, is three slices of french toast. Why? Do you even look at your own menu? Previously, I ordered a turkey sandwich. It came on nicely toasted bread, and it was... 7-8 layers of pre-sliced turkey and a slice of cheese. A pickle on the side. No lettuce. No tomato. Just turkey and toast. It would be very easy, and cost almost nothing, to make these dishes palatable and a good value. The new ownership/management doesn't seem to be able to focus or have an idea of what makes a decent meal. An honest suggestion for the new owners - eat here every day until you are satisfied with what you get. Eat everything on the menu. If your heart sinks a little when you are served, you need to make changes. Best of luck! I really do want to eat here more often. read more

Llegamos a tomar desayuno el pasado Sábado y la experiencia no fue nada agradable. Esperamos en la puerta 10 minutos sin que nadie del restaurante nos tomara en cuenta los empleados pasaban por el lado y nos ignoraban completamente hasta que llame la atención a uno de ellos, nos dieron mesa, pasaron 35 minutos para que tomaran nuestra orden, pasaron 25 minutos y la comida no llegaba hasta que de nuevo llame la atención a uno de los empleados, durante todo este tiempo de espera ningún empleado incluyendo al manager tuvo la cortesía de acercarse para darnos alguna explicación, quiero agregar que en la misma situación se encontraban las personas en otras dos mesas las cuales optaron por abandonar el lugar. La comida llego fría, y desafortunadamente la preparación y presentación no fueron nada agradables.
