HOMEOWNERS...ALERT...ALERT...ALERT...ALERT...DO NOT HIRE! After a lengthy search for a drought tolerant landscaper, I also found Preston Landscaping on Craigslist. After reading the only review on Yelp, and it's a 5 stars, I decided to give them a call and see what they have to offer. I contracted Preston on 8/14/2015 and scheduled an appointment for them to come out and give me an estimate. They said, they were busy with some other projects and will be more than happy to meet on 08/21/1015 between 10-11 am. The day before the appointment, i received a text confirming the appointment. On the day of the appointment, they arrived late. The appointment was from 10-11 am, they didn't show up till 1140 am. Travis and another gentlemen by the name of Jordan showed up. My wife and I spoke with Travis and told him that we wanted a drought tolerant landscaping. They took the time to listen to our needs and wants and appeared to be very knowledgable. Like a car salesman, they gave us a GREAT SALE speech of what they can do with the budget that we had. They gave us a rough estimate and told us to wait for his email. As promised, the email arrived within 24 hrs. And on it was a landscape bid and design. We were given several options on materials and plants. My wife was not happy with the design and material selections that will be used. Over the next couple of days, we exchanged text. I texted him numerous pictures of ideas, materials and drought tolerant plants that my wife wants. They redid the design and incorporated the materials and plants that my wife requested in the new bid. We agreed to meet once more to go over some details before the start project. We meet on 08/27/2015, and again they were an hour late. We review the contract and details with Travis and Jordan. We were verbally told the plants that will be brought for the project. These plants included, Blue fescue, Mexican feather grass, and Agave. We agreed to proceed with the contract with the start date of 09/08/15 between 9-930 am and a completion date of 09/12/2015 by 4pm. Again, they were late the first day. I have to text Travis to find out where he's at. He finally texted saying they will be here before noon. With a work crew of 3, they started their day. They rototill the ground and removed debris from 2 of 3 areas that was supposed to be done. They ended the day, collected the deposit and told me they will be back the following morning. Guess what!!! NO SHOW, AND NO CALLS....All i got was an email with a receipt of the deposit and a note saying they will be back on Thursday cause materials were not in. Thursday came, and they didn't SHOW OR CALL.. Their excuse was that both of their trucks over heated. I gave them the benefit of a doubt and didn't question any further. 9/11/2015, Friday morning, they were off to another late start again. They arrived, and appeared to be rushing now. They off loaded the materials from the truck and started their day. I came out and was looking at the plants and raw materials that was purchased for the project. I was not pleased with the plants and the "BOULDERS" that were purchased. Per the contract, they were supposed to have "COLORFUL" drought tolerant plants and MEDIUM to LARGE sized moss rock "BOULDERS". Instead they were all SMALL sized moss rocks. My wife also came out and inspected the plants. She was disappointed, NO AGAVE, and NO MEXICAN FEATHER GRASS. There were 8 small blue fescue displayed in a single row in the yard. There was a variety of ornamental grasses that were in a "SORRY" state. We were further confused as both Travis and Jordan didn't make eye contact or talk to us as if they were avoiding a conversation about the plants. When we finally got Travis attention, he told us with the plants that were there, "that's what we could get for our budget, and not cutting into our profit". Prior to starting project, Travis stated that if we did not like the selection of plants, there were no problems switching it out for something else. It was clear from their demeanor that we had no choice but to proceed with the project. As my wife and I spoke, we decided to not make a fuss since we are planning to sell our home. We just need our yard landscape and make it drought tolerant period... We let them get on with their day of work. By 7 pm that evening, they said they were done with the project. I was caught off guard because the project was supposed to be a 4 day project. They insisted the project was completed. Before even getting a walk thru and even inspecting their work, I paid them in full.. BAD MISTAKE. I asked Travis to demonstrate the drip irrigation system that was installed. He stated it was installed and set to come on at 330 am in the morning. He reassured that each and every plant has its own drip. I had reached out to Travis but to no avail. I have no other choices but to forward my complaints and concerns with the BBB and CSLB. read more

Preston landscaping removed my lawn and installed a drought tolerant garden. The owners, Travis and Jordan, were very courteous and friendly. The landscaping was done to my and EBMUD specifications and I received many compliments from neighbors. There were a few minor problems that Jordan and Travis fixed. The only reason I did not award 5 stars was mainly because of punctuality. They started the project a couple of days later than agreed upon...mainly because they were very busy. They came to give me an estimate on "dead, patchy lawn" removal along with maintenance free landscape. They were prompt, very friendly, and courteous...and did not try to pressure me into spending what I didn't need to. My yard and property looks incredible now. I'm not one to post reviews but felt very inclined to express our dissatisfaction with Jordan and JP Landscaping. His lack of professionalism and courteous to his potential customers was unexpected. The first meeting with him seemed good but it declined immediately afterwards. He makes you think he has your best interest and wants the project but doesn't follow through with meetings, doesn't appear nor does he contact you stating he'll be late or unable to come. He makes you wait and then, after you finally touch base,hours or days later, he makes excuses. A true business person would always stay in touch from start of a project to its end. The proposal he provided was insufficient and lacked the full scope of the project work to be performed. When requested to further review and discuss the missing elements from the initial quote, he wanted to charge for each discussion and visit. This wasn't stated in the initial quote or visit. Please be weary and make sure you get everything in writing upfront. read more

I know them personally as well as professionally and I know they put a lot into their work. If you'd like to revamp your yard or do away with costly grass maintenance, then give these gentleman your business. Jordan and his crew pulled the dead, scorched earth that was our front lawn and put in beautiful, draught tolerant plants, pavers, and ground cover. This took just over two days and the price was more than fair.  We stayed in budget by reducing rock areas & adding tanbark and still looks a million times better than what it looked like. Jordan Travis & their worker Joe are great guys and all of the work was done fast and efficient. My yard looks incredible now because of the Preston Bros. Wouldn't hesitate to call on him again when we tackle the back yard. read more

The Brothers did my front yard back in March 2016. They did a nice job, except they put the whole 2x4 boarder 4 inches into my neighbors yard, this was after I asked them to double check it. They told me it was good, so I trusted them. My neighbor noticed it was off after they were done, I told him that I would call the Preston brothers to come out and fix it. Looked to be about a hour Job to fix. I did call and they said that they would come out fix it in about a week. Well, they never showed up. I tried calling them over the next couple of weeks and they would not answer my calls or texts. After about 3 weeks they finally answered my text, they said that for them to come fix the problem that they caused, they where going to charge me $900, this on top of the $3000 I had just paid them after they completed the job. Remember, they were the ones who put the boarder in wrong. I tried calling several times to talk about this $900 charge, but they would not answer, so I used my daughters phone to call them and they answered right away not knowing it was me. The phone call did not go well. He said that he didn't want to talk to me, that's why he would not answer my call. He again said to me that i would have to pay them $900 to come fix the boarder problem that was their fault. He said that it was going to be labor intensive and that they would not do it unless I paid them. The end result was that I ended up having to fix the problem myself. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to fix, including fixing my neighbors sprinkler line that the brothers accidentally drove a stake trough. Had they come and fixed their mistake, i would have given them 4 or 5 stars. But I found out that they have no integrity. They dodged my calls and texts for over 3 weeks then tried to charge me $900 to fix their mistake. My advice is, don't take the chance, stay away from Preston Brothers landscaping. read more

If I could give zero stars and a thumbs down I would. But unfortunately I have to give at least one star. Preston Landscaping quoted yard maintenance services that I would be receiving if I decided to move forward with them. I was quoted $50.00/month for services bi-weekly. The first time they came out I was charged $80.00/one time clean up fee to get my yard up to par. 2 employees arrived and did the majority of work. The list of services that were to be done were edging,mowing of grass,weed removal (by hand in some areas),cultivation/spraying of weeds,fertilizing lawns if needed,trimming/pruning of shrubs/plants,blowing/cleaning of all areas and picking up dog feces. The first time they came mowing/edging the yards was done and the front yard had the bushes trimmed. They skipped the side yard, did not prune/trim any bushes/trees in the backyard and did not pull weeds against the fence line in the front or back. The 2nd time they came out they were asked to trim the bushes and mow the side where they skipped last time and we were told they would do it on the following time they came out. I took a look at my yard and found that the dog feces were not picked up and instead were mowed over with the lawnmower. Imagine that mess they created. (Super Unprofessional) Go and behold they came out 3/19/15 and we asked that they do as they said they would and trim bushes and pull the weeds that got neglected prior times and we were told again no, they would do it later or gradually over time. So we advised that they can do whatever it was that they planned on doing to the yard as scheduled that day and after we would no longer be needing their services. The guy immediately had an attitude and replies "well can we get paid today" very rudely. We advised yes as soon as they were done we would pay the agreed $50.00 for the month. They then proceeded to put their tools back in their truck and left without saying anything. I sent a formal cancellation of services and received a reply demanding payment of $25.00 for "services." What a joke, I would NEVER recommend these people to ANYONE. Horrible Service. read more
