Excellent selection of hot appetizers and entrees which we did not get a chance to try because we were in it for the sushi this time around. I am not a sushi eater, for medical reasons, but my sweetheart is, so we appreciate sushi restaurants which can cater to us both, and Joyce's Sushi matched our needs and then some. We walked in at 1:00 and were promptly seated, even as the place had a full house of lunch eaters, some in booths, some at tables, a few at the sushi bar. This might be @ regular thing, as the staffing was at a high level, including four sushi chefs, in an oval "kitchen", surrounded by the other booths and tables. Not too noisy, even with 4 tv's on different channels. The menu is extensive and requires a few minutes to absorb, but we were not hurried. My sweetie ordered her favorites, miso soup, edamame, hamachi and a spicy tuna roll. All were excellent and fresh tasting, and the miso was different than what we have had before, including more mushrooms, but it disappeared into our mouths quickly. I ordered a lunch special, which included rice, miso soup, and a bento box of salad, chicken teriyaki and some of the best tempura I have ever eaten, one large shrimp piece and four vegetables. There was so much that we needed a take out box and a half. We will be back for lunch for sure. Parking depends on the time, as it is in a Gelson-anchored center, with several other stores, businesses, a barber shop and a bank. We did not use it, but they also have a full bar. I should mention that, for a positive review, one can claim a free ice cream, probably the green tea variety, but we did not avail ourselves of that offer. My lunch today at Joyce's was quite enjoyable. The Yellowtail Sushi was delivered by their very busy robot. It was succulent, fresh, and flavorful. The Lunch Special Bento Box was quite wonderful with a huge Shishito pepper perfectly fried and Large slices of sweet potato. The Spicy Tuna Roll was excellent. The overall experience was good. I used to come here when it was Midori...it has lost some of what made Midori so good...if you like machines making the rice and setting up rice on nori it is good good...the rolls fall apart and so does the sushi sushi...the rice does not have the flavor. We arrived , New Year's Eve, at 3:30 pm and the restaurant was about 30% full. Our order was taken and drinks arrived promptly. Then, it was crickets for a long while. Food arrived about 40 minutes later. My husband's teriyaki chicken was cold, not lukewarm, not room temperature, but as though it sat it the fridge overnight. We waited and waited for someone to come. Finally, I went to the "take out" counter and the gentleman said he was the only one serving. We've visited Joyce's for over 15 years and this was terrible! Hands down the best sushi I've had in the desert. Everything tastes super fresh, the rolls are actually flavorful (not bland like a lot of places out here), and the portions are really good. The fish itself is all right. The sushi rice could be better, it didn't have the right texture/flavor. We had also ordered the uni and the seaweed wrap it came in was very soft, like it had been left out overnight. Overall they start with decent ingredients but fall through on execution. The ramen lacked depth in the flavor, the egg was just a hard boiled egg not marinated like you would expect.
