When she gave me the final total it was absolutely reasonable for the amount of work she did, including having to add materials to the dress itself. I think some people think that alterations should be cheap because sometimes you can get that from a dry cleaner, but in real life that type of quality work takes time and you definitely pay for what you get. The store itself is in a bit of an awkward spot off of Rt 51, but the inside is very spacious, clean, and has a great area for you to try on your dress under great lighting! One note is that she only accepts cash or checks. I will definitely be back for more alterations in the future. If you ever need a complete pro to alter or hem anything, whether it be a dress, pants, or fur coat, Anita is your lady!

I wish she would have been honest, and upfront that she couldn't take my business due to time constraints. Before accepting any sort of service, I would ask her if she really has time to dedicate on you and your dress. Let me preface my review by stating I am a sewer and amateur seamstress myself. I chose not to work on my own dress because I didn't want the hassle for my wedding day. And I also want to say the owner of this shop was very professional. I don't doubt she has skill and expertise, she's just far too busy to really tap into it. Like I hinted above, the friendly woman (Diane?) who owns this business was far too busy and overwhelmed on alterations during prom season to spend the right amount of time needed for my wedding gown. Also, her shop was so crowded, it only increased any kind of nervousness or lack of trust I had for choosing her when I would go to my appointments. I ended up having 4 appointments with her and by the 3rd appointment, I was worried. (I almost believe she forgot I actually already had 3 fittings already by the 4th visit.) At the 4th I was disappointed, but just wanted to get out of there and never come back. I didn't complain to her, and this is a regret. But, it was 1 day before my wedding and what more could she really do? I just wanted to get home, and use the remaining 1 day! of time to fix what I paid for. What she altered in on the sides was a professional job, and I was impressed. What I had requested done for the shoulders was last minute, and she did well for the time. No complaints for either of these. However, the most visible part of the dress where she needed to insert a fabric modestly piece was so botched. She left a raw edge on the fabric, so it was fraying my entire wedding day and folks commented!!!! Also she machine sewed it (so the stitching was visible to everyone) and she didn't even trim the extra thread. She should have hand sewed it. If I had the time, I would have just done this myself if I had known this was what I was paying for. It was basically a "I only have 10 minutes before she gets here, let's do this quick and dirty" kind of job. I'm at least grateful the thread matched. I ended up seam ripping out all of the changes she made to the bow requests. Maybe there was a miscommunication there of what I wanted, but whatever she did to it, was beyond me. It was hand stitched crooked on the back. I liked the bow before, but whatever was done to it made me dislike it. I ended up taking it off of the back of the gown. It did not make it to the wedding. Like I said above, I think the owner is incredibly talented when she has time- so ask her before you give her business. I think she may be balancing some tough things in her personal world that make her overbook what she's capable of completing on time. I would have been willing to pay more for her time if she would've actually been upfront. I wanted my dress to look nice and would have paid whatever if she needed to charge for that time to make it look great. I ended up paying $100 and was just solely bummed. To any bride considering Topaz Thimble for alterations, I encourage you to read this full review before handing over your gown to Kati. There are many seamstresses who provide better quality work and customer service. I paid Kati $500 to take my wedding dress and create a top that "looked" like what we discussed, but which had serious construction, quality and fit issues. I am now paying another seamstress to remediate all of the work that Kati called her "best work ever". I took my dress to be altered into a peplum style top. At the initial appointment, the dress was put on a mannequin and we discussed the changes to be made. I asked if I should try it on, but Kati stated it wasn't necessary. I thought it was strange that she didn't want to take measurements given we discussed that my wedding was 5 years and 2 kids ago. In hindsight, this was the first red flag. When I arrived for the final fitting, Kati's assistant answered the door and let me know that Kati was finishing up a few things. I waited for about 20 minutes while I could hear the sewing machine frantically whirring in the back. If more time was needed to finish the gown, I would have rather delayed the fitting than rush the work. This was the second red flag. Kati brought out the dress and it appeared as we had discussed. The only time that Kati touched the garment during my fitting was to help me snap and unsnap it. There was no "fitting", "checking" or "fussing" to make sure it was perfect. I paid and left the studio with the top. At home I tried it on again and took a closer look over the whole piece. The sleeves were not staying up because they did not have enough room in the shoulders. The buttons on the sleeve cuffs did not lay nicely as the material was bunching and they were attached unevenly. A seam on the peplum skirt had the horsehair trim raw, jagged and sticking out. Most concerning, the seams and construction throughout were uneven and messy. I emailed Kati regarding this issues and we scheduled a date to come back. My gut however was telling me to get a second opinion. I am not an avid sewer, however I have completed multiple sewing projects, and the quality of work was nothing that I would expect from a professional seamstress. I took the top to a second bridal seamstress with over 25 years of experience. The seamstress identified a plethora of areas where the work was either not completed correctly or was poorly executed. Ultimately she felt it came down to inexperience and rushed work. I feel taken advantage of knowing that Kati let me walk out of her studio with a garment that had blatant craftsmanship issues, and I do wonder how many brides leave Topaz Thimble with poor quality alterations to their gowns. In summary, the following issues were noted: - Seams throughout are messy and incorrectly executed - Sleeves and peplum skirt were incorrectly constructed - Thread color used did not match the rest of the dress - All horsehair seam edges were left raw and unfinished - Appliques were incorrectly connected and causing bunching - Time and effort were not taken to construct proper seams between the sleeve and the strap, as well as between the bodice and the peplum skirt, resulting in bunched and uneven seams. After meeting with the other seamstress, I emailed Kati explaining that I did not feel comfortable returning to Topaz Thimble to have the work corrected. I requested a refund to help cover the cost of the remediation work. In her response, Kati refused to acknowledge the issues identified and refused to provide any type of refund. Kati stated that I was not a sewing expert and stopped responding to any follow up from my side. I submitted a dispute to my credit card company citing "unsatisfactory quality for services rendered" and included all correspondence. After reviewing the case, the bank sided with me and refunded my money. I feel this speaks to the credibility of the review. Overall, when choosing someone to work on one of the most important garments in your life, I recommend you choose someone who has an immense amount of experience and attention to detail. Find someone who will not cut corners, and most importantly, someone who is kind and customer focused. You will not find this with Topaz Thimble.

Alterations that are almost always needed and should not be shouted throughout the store. This group had average size girls and petite girls. No matter what end over or underweight comments are not welcomed. The owners side stories talking down about her other brides/clients were also inappropriate. Talking about how the bride doesn't want to come for her fitting because she doesn't think the girl lost the weight she wanted to. My guess is the bride is trying to find a backup seamstress to get this lady off her back. The dresses looked great at the wedding however you can get great dresses everywhere, but you can't get great customer service everywhere and I can guarantee none of us will be returning. We also have advised other potential brides away from this location. Every body type, age, color is beautiful.
