I ordered dinner from here because we're camping at John Prince campsite and it was listed as one of the suggestions from Uber eats. I ordered chicken chow mein and my husband ordered general tso chicken. I realize when I opened up my chicken chow mein that there was a lot of onions in it and I started picking the onions out of it because I'm not a big fan of onions. I like onions, but chicken chow mein not that many onions . You could clearly see by the photo that the onions overpowered everything on the plate and by the time I took the majority of the larger pieces of the onions out there was hardly any chicken chow mein left. And the chicken that was there was very small pieces. My husband said his general tso chicken was about three stars. Mine was one star, so that's where we wound up with the two. I just wish I could understand why there was so many onions in this chicken chow mein because it was absolutely horrible. Would I try them again based on the many good reviews they have? It's better than ok -it's good. If you set your intentions for average Asian take out you'll be happily surprised that this place is a little better. Than are friendlier and the food is flavorful without the access grease that soaks through the brown bag. First checked this place out during "stay at home" covid but I was still working. Had a good lunch and decided to share with coworkers - many have returned to this location for quick lunches. I especially like the soups and the freshness of the veggies. Not the type to leave bad reviews but I felt compelled to download the app and share this. Beef chow lo mein flavorless and honestly a waste of money. Their sweet and sour chicken is the best I've had in a long time. Not super crunchy and they always put the sauce on the side so it's not soggy. Pretty good Chinese food! This is not within my home base but we wanted to try a different Chinese place so I stopped here to grab something to go on my route home. It had good reviews on yelp so it became an easy choice. We got the entree called dragon & Phoenix which had a mixture of shrimp and chicken. Since the hubby wanted shrimp and I opted for chicken this was the best choice for us. I also got a big hot and sour soup which was ok but not as good as my local spot. As well as the crab Rangoons which were home made but not as good as I'm used to. The entree we did love which is something my place by the house doesn't offer. Service was very quick my first time ordering from here. The chicken fried rice was just ok. The chicken tasted very bland, I had to add seasoning. I expected more flavor from the rice. My favorite Chinese restaurant Happy Chef closed after more than 20 years in the business. I needed to find a place that would fill the void. I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food. There is one dish that I will test on the menu see whether it'll live up to my expectations. The house fried rice. If you can't get it right you might as well pack up the wok. A lot of these so-called Chinese restaurants now are using yellow rice with scallions thrown in and calling it fried rice. Fried rice should start with cooked white rice and being turned into something magical. Joy luck comes pretty close to what I call perfection. The fried rice had everything that I look for except for the fried egg. I'll be back though cause they really hit the spot. Service in Chinese takeout restaurants is always sparse when it comes to my experience. You order your food, you pick up your food and you eat your food. This place is different. They are friendly and happy to modify dishes without a grumble. They also have Moo Shu, my favorite Chinese dish. It's a dish that has become more difficult to find in Chinese takeout restaurants. I been ordering from this place since I moved to this area a month ago. First time I order was the special fried rice and the honey chicken. They were good. Second time I ordered was pork fried rice and sesame chicken. I did not like the pork fried rice and the sesame chicken was a bit greasy. After reading the reviews, I traveled the 15 min drive to try this Chinese take out. In short, totally worth it! The food was flavorful without being greasy. The portions were large and well prepared. Great pork fried rice, pork fried dumplings and moo shoo pork. Even the Won Ton Soup was a notch above. The Lo Mein was terrific. The chicken and broccoli was fine but not as remarkable as the other dishes. I'll be back. Be warned: This is not a dine-in establishment. It's Covid era so maybe they had tables before that but I'd never eat in even if there was seating. No ambiance at all. Strictly a take-out place but oh The Joy and The Luck of finding this gem. Everytime I come here it tastes like fish and you got the workers with their masks down and touching their face and hands in mouth while cooking. Don't even wash their hands right.. so disgusting. I ordered delivery. I was told it would take 45 mins and the delivery driver got here in 40 mins. The service was nice over the phone and the delivery driver was polite. I ordered the honey garlic chicken with shrimp friend rice and I ordered a large egg drop soup. The honey garlic chicken tasted more like honey, so I would like to taste garlic too. I'll order again to see if that changes. The shrimp fried rice was good. I added salt and pepper to the egg drop soup, but since I'm not feeling well and can't taste much so it was good enough. Great place- I was very surprised when i bit into my 'beef' and it nearly melted in my mouth. I knew right away that they did not buy the typical crap most Chinese rests buy. The Wonton Soup is excellent. Even the 'secret meat' in the Wonton that at most places tastes a little 'off' was delicious. An absolute first for me and im 60+ I lived in NY all my life and this place is better than most up there. I compare the food at JL more to Pei Wei's and PF Chang than to Chinese independent to-go operations. read more
