Joy Luck has been our favorite take out since we lived in Merritt Island fourteen years ago, and we still pick up from Cocoa Beach. It's the only Chinese takeaway in the area that we like. This little takeout Chinese restaurant may seem small and unimpressive, however I was very pleased with my first visit there. I ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce and found it to be very tasty and very well made. This is one dish that I often will order when I visit the new Chinese restaurant as their ability to make this well often signals the quality of their other offerings. The food was prepared and a timely manner, and although we took it home to eat, it was still piping hot when we served it up. The portions are very much in keeping with traditional Chinese takeaway. You get your money's worth at this restaurant both in terms of portions and product quality. We've been getting Joy Luck take out for awhile now. We found it after our very favorite restaurant closed. When China Gardens closed, we didn't get Chinese anymore. Then, a friend suggested Joy Luck and we were pleasantly surprised, even though they didn't deliver. The egg drop soup and the hot and sour soup were both excellent. I loved the shrimp lo mein and the beef and broccoli was excellent. Recently, however, the food has lost its appeal. The lo mein was mushy, the shrimp were slimy and the beef was tough. We gave it another try, anyone can have a bad day. The sesame chicken was blah and the large shrimp with snow peas were slimy again. So, we're finished with them. I have eight here many times for although it's not very good Chinese food it's better than most as available in this area which is all pretty much the same and I'll pretty much pretty dismal which is unfortunate because there's such a high demand for it in this area. One thing that particular irritates me is they give you a big surcharge if you use a credit card and if you want to change white racist fried rice it's an extra $4.50 which seems ridiculous so some of the pricing says are very high but if you're desperate for some kind of Chinese food like I say you don't have a lot of choice it's almost as good just going and buying stuff in a box at Walmart and making it yourself read more

What a disappointment. Cold night in Florida, craving chicken chow mein and the hubby decided on sweet and sour chicken. So we placed our order online at Joy Luck. The website ordering is pretty easy but apparently should have photos and descriptions attached to each of their dishes since they prepare some of them the Joy Luck way, not in the traditional way of most Chinese food restaurants. Chow Mein fans: BEWARE! According to Joy Luck, Chow Mein does NOT have noodles. Not any whatsoever. Only Lo Mein has noodles. So when I was shocked to find my container full of a disturbing soupy concoction with a few pieces of chicken, the equivalent of an entire small onion and a whole lot of celery, I called the store and asked, just in case they had accidentally placed someone else's order in our takeout order. She informed me that I apparently don't have a clue what Chow Mein is - that if I had wanted noodles I should have known to order Lo Mein or Chow Mein Fun. Interesting that every google picture of Chow Mein has noodles, and even the oxford dictionary describes it as having noodles. But if you want noodles in your Chow Mein you won't have any luck (or joy) eating at Joy Luck. And don't expect them to care or make it right. Which is a shame... we are new owners of a hotel in town and have been visiting the local restaurants to offer recommendations to our guests. This place definitely won't make the list. read more

This is my first time ordering from Joy Luck. I decided to give it a try do to the many good reviews it received. We ordered 3 dishes and 3 sides. Roast Pork Egg Foo Young with Fried Rice, Bourbon Chicken with Pork Fried Rice, and General Tso's Chicken with Pork Fried Rice. The side were Krabmeat Rangoon, Fried Wonton, and Egg Rolls. All the fried rice in each dish had the same odd taste. I've had fried rice at many different places and I've never tasted any like this. It had a tinny almost dish-soap kind of taste. Kind of like the old soap Brillo pads Used to leave in a cast iron pan. This taste / flavor was prevalent through all the food. The fried rice was also very strange tasting. It tasted like it was just steamed rice with some paprika or something else added for color / taste. It certainly didn't taste like fried rice. Additionally it was quite dry. The dryness wasn't a big deal but the taste was very odd, not like fried rice. So with 44 mostly good reviews all I can think is someone forgot to do something (clean/ rise some pots and pans), or discard some oil, or people have become accustomed to these flavors and now like them? Either way I won't be back and I absolutely hope I do not get sick from the Rangoons. read more
