Courtenay Pkwy., Merritt Island, FL. 32953 1 Star When we started BBDO over 5 years ago, I made a conscious decision not to review Chinese restaurants, not due to xenophobia or any such nonsense, but solely due to the fact that they all server basically the same Anglo-influenced Chinese fare. Then we realized execution could play a factor here and allow a separation if I used a baseline. After a survey of several thousand (thank you one and all) Big Boy Dining Out readers, the dishes chosen are General Tso's Chicken, steamed dumplings and the standard egg rolls. Entering the place I was immediately overcome with a dismal vibe. It was clean and neat and everything it just didn't give off a very happy atmosphere. Coco is our moderately charming fùwùyuàn although I don't think she spoke any English at all, which just pointing out here, would be helpful in the service industry in a country where the overwhelming majority of the populace speak it. At this point, I would start peppering this review with a fair amount of charentisimistic phrases, but that would hinder our BBDO policy of calling it like it is. The General Tso Chicken, which was invented in California, must have been left over from the laying of the transcontinental railroad as it had the consistency of the gizzard and tasted excruciatingly bad. The meat was impossible to chew without the aid of mechanized jaws and it seemed to be drenched in maple syrup. The dumplings were just like the dumplings I have consumed many times in the past. They were steamed and contained a mix of meat and veggies. The egg roll was 2 instead of 4 inches long. Other than that, it tasted like the millions of egg rolls I've had in my lifetime. The accompanying sauces for both the dumplings and egg roll were as expected. Not freshly made, but tasty enough. As I was paying my bill, I took a passing glance at the owner who poured over a checkbook with a very unsightly look on his face. Way too much MSG. You will bloat and will pay with tummy ache. Food seems like over fried reheated frozen food not fresh. Im pretty sure the staff hasn't smiled since birth and they genuinely appear irritated that you even showed up and dared to bother them with your food order. Try another place, any place. read more

Picked up some take out Chinese food at Yums located in the Publix plaza on Courtenay Blvd in Merritt Island. I have tried their food once before a few years back and it was so-so. I decided to give them another try and unfortunately it was worst than before. Same place as before but a few more years of neglect, right down to the warbling ceiling fan that looks like it's going to fall any minute. It appears that the owner has just given up on the business. Will say one good thing they are quick with the food, too quick though, to the point where is was very obvious everything was already prepared and just thrown in the wok to heat up, and that's pretty much how it looked and tasted. On more than one occurrence they purposefully got my order wrong to charge me more money. I very clearly order kung pow dinner with a PINT of broccoli beef. Instead of the pint of broc beef, they make it a full second meal. The difference, yellow rice and about $7. Calling this "okay" Chinese food is way too generous. Pretty bland, would love to have more flavor but I understand not everyone can handle the spice.

I ordered Sesame chicken and Orange chicken combos. The egg rolls and fried rice was good. The chicken in both dishes was dry and stringy. I ate about 4 pieces and will feed the dog the left overs. I do you not know what happen with this place. It used to be great we used to come here all the time then the pandemic hit and they just have gone down in quality of food and their consistency is all over the place you never know what you're going to get. We usually get orange chicken,General toa, Singapore chow mai fun and several different kinds of food so we've tried it several menu items. If someone said oh it's just frozen food that they've thawed out, I would be like oh my gosh that's it !! because it just taste processed it doesn't taste fresh it doesn't taste like it was just made. I don't know what it is with this restaurant but they definitely were a lot better before. I tried somewhere new and I should've tried where I know and was craving. I ordered the chicken Kung pao dinner combination and it wasn't the way I like it. It wasn't very spicy, the chicken wasn't crispy and there wasn't much rice. My egg roll had split during the deep fry and was extra cooked and greasy as a result. Overall, not my cup of tea. On the plus side, the location looked very nice and it's entirely possible I ordered the worst item on their menu and the rest is great. That being said, I'll likely keep with the place I know and like for my Chinese food in the future. read more

Got the beef and broccoli, sesame chicken, boneless spare ribs and the crab Rangoons. Beef and broccoli and sesame chicken were not great. Kinda just want to give it to our dogs. Rangoons we're not fried long enough, very light in color and not the golden brown they should normally be. What seems to be a family that owns this place is very nice. Yes I understand that it isn't supposed to be a top notch place but I expected to at least enjoy my meal a little bit! So I was disappointed. We've been eating take-out from Yum's for a few years now. I think they do a nice job with the standard Chinese take-out fare. Their wonton soup is excellent. The wonton wrappers aren't too thick and the broth is flavorful. We like their 3 small spring roll appetizer and shrimp egg roll. We HAVE had those be a little greasy sometimes, but generally they're delicious. For main dishes, their chicken & broccoli is great. The broccoli is always fresh & tender-crisp. Just the right amount of sauce. Also their sesame chicken is pretty tasty. Recently we tried their Mongolian beef and I thought it was great. Sadly my wife doesn't really eat beef so we'll keep ordering chicken dishes most likely. But really everything we've had here has been good and they are really consistent, IMO. read more

The food here is better than the other local Chinese takeout places. Their lunch specials are only $3.99. Their all day specials are $4.99, however they come with white rice. They charge $1 more to upgrade to a specialty rice for the all day special. They have a good variety of American cuisine as well. This is a great restaurant. Standard Chinese fast menu, but the difference is that the food at this one is bar none awesome. You can tell that they actually care about the food that they are cooking because it tastes so good. My wife orders the Beef with Vegetables and she has said that is the best that she has ever had. If you enjoy fried chicken wings, then you will enjoy theirs. You get the whole wing and they are very tasty. Very friendly service and it is super clean inside. So I never write reviews for places, EVER, but my experience(s) with this "Chinese food" restaurant has been so bad that I felt the need. My first time coming here was a couple of years ago and the food was very bland. I haven't eaten there since but last night I decided to give them another chance. I call in an order and the lady who answered the phone was so unprofessional and didn't even introduce herself or the restaurant so I wasn't sure I had the right number at first. After about 3 mins of confusion she apologized and said yes this is the Chinese place. I ordered beef lo mein and 2 egg rolls. The food was terrible. The noodles were overcooked and soggy, there was still no flavor and I haven't even touched the egg rolls for fear of disappointment. There will not be a third time that I go there for Chinese food. Big Big mistake, ordered the number 1 "General Tso" and a number13 Beef and Broccoli, crab rangoons and an egg roll. Absolutly horrible!!! Thete was so much oil used in cooking it was horrible. The General Tso chicken was fried balls of batyer with absolutly no chicken in it. The beef and broccoli was also coated in oil so bad and little to no taste. The eggroll was mush. Crab saturated and coated in oil. It all went in the garbage where it belongs. Today is Saturday May 28 2016. Do yourself a favor drive the extra 2 miles to Joy Luck by Publix in Merritt Island.
