Worse Than a Botched Facelift First, let me start off by saying my house was built in 1935 and I live in a historical district. My sales rep, Yepo, and Journey builders took no consideration in maintaining the architectural integrity of my Monterrey/Spanish style house. Instead of tiling the entire roof with Forest Brown asphalt shingles, white bitumen was laid and left exposed. One entire roof peak and several other areas of bitumen were left visible from the street. The house looks like it has a peak and patches of snow. Yepo's response to my dissatisfaction? "It passed city inspection." The cost of the project increased about 60% after removing the old roof and finding termite damage. Unfortunately, I was out of town during this project and was unable to visually verify this for myself. Due to the high cost of this project, I trusted that the work would be impeccable. I was totally disappointed in the end. Yepo waived the thousand dollar fee for removing and reinstalling three solar panels. He said that if he came back and added the missing ridge caps he would have to charge me $1000 for the solar panels. Caping the ridge is one thing that I can easily replace myself. He was unwilling to correct any of the other items of concern, repeating that it passed city inspection. Here is a list of the poor workmanship: Did not "prepare and cover all work areas" as outlined in the contract. Yepo said that the living room interior would be covered in plastic sheeting as a means of catching any debris falling into the house during the job. Flashing: used an extra large size in some conspicuous areas, much larger than what was on the house prior to the roof replacement. Valley flashing doesn't extend all the way down the valley. Using extra long nails which stick out into the attic storage area and create a safety concern. Wrapping epoxy over a brick archway. This is something that can not easily be fixed. Not capping one the the roof peaks with ridge shingles, leaving white bitumen exposed Not tying shingles all the way to the wall/flashing. Leaving white bitumen exposed in several areas. Tearing out 1x6 planks above patio and replacing with exterior Masonite sheeting instead of 1x6 Broke 2 tiles bordering window Cutting shingles to allow exposed bitumen, making the roof look like it has patches of snow. If you care about the architectural and integrity of the appearance of your house, use a different roofer.

I will forever be grateful to Journey Builders. I had multiple competitive bids but I decided to go with Journey Builders and I was very happy with their professionalism. Zack the project manager initially told me that the project will take 7-10 days, but they were able to finish it sooner. My house was built in the 1950s and I had to replace all the wood with new plywood. The city inspector told me they went above and beyond and did a great job. I'll be looking forward to working with Journey Builders and Zack for all my future home improvement needs. If you're looking for a company that's on top of everything I would highly recommend to work with Journey Builders.

Thank you to Journey Builders and especially Yepo! Great pricing, delivered on time, and most importantly - did amazing work! Could not recommend enough.

We had been thinking about getting a new roof for a while, and after meeting Mark from Journey Builders, we knew we'd found the right person for the job. From start to finish, Mark kept us informed every step of the way, making the whole process seamless. His crew was punctual, hardworking, and made sure to clean up at the end of each day. Our roof looks amazing, and we couldn't be happier! We already have more projects in mind, and Journey Builders will be our go-to company.

Chris and Will were so nice. They told us a price and when the construction would start and end. They kept in touch throughout the roofing project. The crew they sent completed our job and it looks fantastic. They left nothing to be cleaned up by us. I highly recommend Journey Builders for any projects.

UPDATE: Jerry at Jouney Builders contacted me after my review to apologize and say that they wanted to cut my father a check for $3,000 as their way of saying sorry for the issues we had. Jerry informed me that I would have to sign a settlement letter before they would cut the check and that I would have to remove my review. I advised him that I would update, but not remove the review. After some back and forth I was told that they "are unable to execute the agreement while there are existing reviews about our company that are untrue or unfair. We will need the reviews taken down and an agreement that no such defamatory posts will be made before we can move forward with a settlement agreement. Please confirm your agreement and removal and we will prepare the appropriate settlement paperwork." Unfortunately they couldn't provide anything "untrue or unfair" that was said. I declined their offer to pay to take down review. STARTED OF ORIGINAL REVIEW: So very disappointed that I have to leave this review. My elderly father was so very excited about having a new roof put on his home and garage. One of the most important things when dealing with this company is to ensure that all promises and statements are in writing, otherwise it's a fairy tale. I spoke with my father the day after he signed the contract he was raving about the deal he got for a new roof ($55,000) and that he would get a rebate that he thought would be about $8,000 when he filed his taxes. There was nothing in the agreement about rebates, only a credit program he could file for to see if he was eligible. It has been going on 3-4 weeks plus since Erik S. Responded to my calls about getting the paperwork about the credit program and finishing the work on the house. The few times I did speak with him, I had to call from different numbers each time so he would actually pick up. I have called his office and left him and his manager messages. Even the compliance department won't return my calls anymore. The company left nails in the front boards of our house and a strange black stripe was left over the white siding where the roof transitions. For $55,000 I would think they would take care of these details and answer the phone. Not leave needed clean up inside our attic storage area. No matter how slick they sound, I would make sure you get multiple quotes before signing, and ensure everything they promise you is written down in the contract. Because once they finish and pass you off to the finance company they will ghost you, no matter how often you call and no matter how many voicemails and texts you leave them asking for help.

The service from the entire Journey team was incredible. They were efficient, thoughtful and so easy to work with. The work performed was excellent. They installed a. Ew roof (which hadn't been done for more than 30 years) and installed rain gutters. The quality was top notch and everyone from the receptionist to the installers was incredibly friendly.

I had a terrible leak and found out it was more than that. Vee came out right away and walked me through all the issues and possible issues unlike the other companies that had come out before. Once the work got started I was very pleased with professionalism Brad did all the paper works and was clear with everything I needed to sign including warranties. Unfortunately we had more rain than expected and push the project back but soon as it stopped they were here working. While we had a break my roof was tarped so I wouldn't get any further damage. So I was comfortable during the entire project. I would recommend Vee and Brad both. I'm happy with house my roof turned out.

    Ceiling hole--shoe for scale

Learn from my mistake and look elsewhere! We needed our roof repaired--some leaking and water damage with our tile roof. A neighbor(with the same kind of roof, though slightly smaller square footage) had recommended a roofing company, and when I got no response at the number she gave me, I Googled the company name and my city, and the person who answered said they were "Journey Builders"--that should have been my first warning! She still said they could send someone out the next day to give us a free estimate even though they were not the company I intended to call. We met with Yepo the next day-- in mid-April. He was friendly and pleasant, and gave us an estimate--more than my neighbor had paid, but prices have risen and our roof was in worse shape, so it didn't seem too off. He asked when we wanted to start ("Soon; we know it will leak next time it rains"), and he started telling us they were already booked through late May, so we should probably decide soon. He asked if we would be getting other estimates, and we said yes. He then told us that the company was working on a job in a neighboring city and they could maybe save us some money if we could do a "job merge" and use some of the same crew and equipment for both jobs. He made a call to his 'project manager' and yes, they could do that, but they would have to come remove the tiles from our roof the next day, so we would have to decide that night. He also said that the majority of our tiles were in good shape and could mostly be re-used--they would not have to purchase many additional tiles. I should have trusted my instincts and resisted being pressured to decide right then and there, but we did. :( They did indeed come and remove all of our tiles the very next day--I realized afterwards that this was probably to prevent us from invoking California's 3-days to change your mind! The next week, Yepo showed up with Randy to "check the progress so far" . He mentioned to Randy that we had agreed to a 'job merge'--it really felt like it was coded language for them. Randy inspected the roof and then they told us that they would have to replace all of the plywood parts of the roof because it was damaged and/ or was not installed correctly--the price DOUBLED from the original quote. I felt like we couldn't have a half-finished roof, so we agreed: again, I'm sure that's part of the routine here. At one point, I emailed Yepo and asked for a detailed invoice: "what are you buying for my roof and what am I paying for? Can I have a break down of the actual charges? " (Note: I had just talked to TWO window replacement companies who BOTH provided that exact kind of detail) and I never got a reply. When he called ME because he wanted to come and pick up a payment check, I mentioned the email and asked my questions and got a BS reply about "NDA's with their suppliers and not being able to reveal the deals they were getting from these suppliers". By this point, I basically just wanted to be done with these people; but that night, I noticed that a hammer or something had been dropped through the ceiling and had made a hole in my roof closet, right above my shoes. (see photo) I showed it to Yepo when he came by, he took some pictures and said he would see when his 'guys' were available to come and fix it. I was told that the next step would be the final inspection from the city, then the company would come pick up final payment. I was notified that we had passed inspection a day or two later, at which point I started getting calls from a totally new person from the local office about when he could come and pick up the final payment. He suggested a time when I already had a commitment, but I told him my husband and I would both be available an hour after the time he originally suggested. Nevertheless, he called to say he was on his way when I was unavailable--and I reminded him of the time I had stated. I also asked if we would receive our warranty certificate after we gave him the check and he said "Not until you pay for the last bit of work". I asked for clarification and he informed me that I would be charged $1000 (yes, 1k) for the hole repair in my closet. I kind of lost it and said "you are charging ME $1000 for a hole made my YOUR workers?? Forget it! I will get someone else to fix the hole. I want to be done with this". When we met with this person a bit later, I expressed my anger with myself for agreeing to their non-detailed, inflated contract, but acknowledged that I had signed it and intended to honor MY obligations. He comped our permit ($500) and gave us our warranty. Since the work was completed in early May, we discovered all sorts of debris in our garage storage area and lots of roofing nails that never got picked up--so much for the "we make sure to clean up after ourselves". Does the roof look good? As a non-roofing expert, I think so. Was it worth what we paid? I doubt it. I do not recommend this company

Ceiling started leaking during crazy LA weather. We found Journey through Facebook and they were able to squeeze us in. Mason and Brad were personable and patient working with my parents. They did a really great job! Very communicative and dependable. We appreciate them , their team, will definitely use them again.

    Before

Our recent experience with Journey Builders for our roof replacement was stellar. Vee was most helpful in explaining the process, materials and pricing. They were are to start the next day which was great since we were expecting rain just a few days later. The workers were efficient, courteous and cleaned up after each day's work. We would not hesitate to recommend Journey Builders for a professional roof replacement experience.

We had a very difficult time finding a reputable roofer in Los Angeles. Frankly this is an industry where there are a lot of day laborers passing as roofers that simply come and put some tar on your roof and call it a day. This is why Mark and his crews were such a godsend. We effectively had our roof ruined by another roofer. Mark was straight with us and explained why we basically had to start fresh. He did so, and I couldnt be happier. It maybe took a bit longer than expected, but that is because Mark treats your home like his own. He never risked opening up anything he couldnt close before rain or bad weather, and he personally checked the roof every step of the way to make sure it was up to standard. I'm lucky to have met Mark, and would recommend him to anyone for any roofing job

Their pricing was comparable to others, but the ability to visit their in-progress projects gave me confidence. I'm very very particular, and while no remodel is perfect, Creative worked to bring my vision to life. My advice: plan everything in detail beforehand--or hire a designer. To save costs, I handled all the design myself while working full-time, which was highly stressful. Having everything mapped out helps avoid delays, last-minute changes, or compromising on your vision. Golan and Jordan were fantastic--Golan handled planning and communication, and Jordan ensured everything stayed on track. They always responded to my texts in a reasonable amount of time. Their tile crew was exceptional (I often bumped into them because they worked long hours and weekends to complete my home and were really nice and respectful people), and they tiled nearly my entire house beautifully (we're talking 2000 sq ft of flooring, 3 bathrooms, and a fireplace). I appreciated that Creative didn't nickel and dime me for small changes, and when a gas leak was discovered (due to careless cabinetry work), they fixed it--and more (we found more leaks during the repairs)--without extra charges. Despite delays beyond their control, they completed the full renovation in about six months--from pulling permits to final inspection. Major work included a new kitchen, three bathrooms, tile flooring throughout, interior paint, a new electrical panel, and whole-house LED recessed lighting. Even after the job was done, they returned to fix small issues without hesitation. That kind of follow-up is rare in a world full of disappearing contractors. I would recommend Creative for any remodeling project, big or small.

The project ran about six months. The short version: we'd hire them again. The longer version: Jacob, the design lead, is the reason we went with them. He has a genuine passion for old buildings and pushed to preserve original details that another contractor would have torn out without a second thought. That instinct matters when you're working on something irreplaceable. Ken managed the project more quietly but kept things moving. And when issues came up after the job was done -- after the final check had been cashed -- Jacob, Ken, and the owner Sage came back and made it right. That's not nothing. That's actually rare. Were there setbacks? Yes. If you've hired contractors in LA, especially on older properties, you know what you're signing up for. New Dawn isn't immune to that reality. They're not the cheapest option and not the most expensive either. But they're the kind of crew that stands behind their work, and in this city, that's worth writing a review about.

I love that this is a family owned company and they have their warehouse in Burbank. I selected Eyal after interviewing 7 other contractors. He came in and, unlike the others, took some time to get to know me and my expectations. I had a gut feeling that this company would be my choice. I continued to interview a couple more companies, yet I knew I was choosing MDRN. My kitchen had flooded and caused water damage throughout my wetbar & entryway. The kitchen and breakfast nook had to be gutted. I was left with 4 walls and a cement floor. This was my first major remodel and I was unsure of how things worked. This is one of the reasons I chose MDRN REMODELING. Eyal invited me to the warehouse to sit with Marc. MARC was so awesome, helping me to realize a vision of my perfect kitchen. The suggestions were extremely helpful and he brought it to life with 3D renderings. Upon entering the warehouse it is humming with their cabinet makers and the smell of fresh wood being cut and made into beautiful cabinets, drawers, etc. I can't say enough about Yuri and Rooslin, who made and installed all of my beautiful cabinets, island and pantry. True professionals. Joshua, the lead man, in charge of everything else, tiling, painting, electrical, etc. has a wonderful crew. Eyal checked in or came over daily to make sure my project was on point. He was always available! There was never a time that I couldn't reach him or get a call back within minutes. He is truly one of the nicest and caring professionals, not to mention human beings, I've ever met. I could go on and on about how much I appreciated their patience and willingness to make sure I was 100% happy with everything. I have to mention that I had to halt the project for a week, due to knee surgery, and they had no problem with that. I now have one large beautiful kitchen with amazing features that I never thought possible. I will definitely use Eyal again for my next project. I have more to say, but I hope you get my drift. Once again, thank you to EYAL & MDRN REMODELING for all of your hardwork!! I highly recommend you consult Eyal @ MDRN REMODELING for any remodeling project you may want or need!!

Pricing was competitive -- we got multiple estimates and Way To Go came in reasonable without cutting corners. You can see it in the finish quality: the stonework is clean, the tile on the curved bench is precise, and the side yard pathway turned out better than we imagined. Our pool cleaner gave high praise on the resurfacing work when he arrived for the first cleaning! Highly recommend for anyone looking to transform their outdoor space -- quality work, fair pricing, and a timeline that'll surprise you.

The remodel included changing the old plaster to mini pebble, installing new tile, adding a new LED pool light, and doing the deco seal around the pool. The finish came out great and it completely refreshed the look of the pool. Once all the materials were ordered and ready, the actual work was completed in about a week, which I was really happy about. Tamir kept everything organized and the crew stayed on schedule. I also appreciated that he was able to accommodate a couple of last-minute additions I requested during the project and made sure everything was taken care of. The crew did solid work and the pool looks great now. I'm happy with how everything turned out and would recommend Way To Go Builders if you're planning a pool remodel.

Luckily, I came across Four Seasons Builders and had the pleasure of working with Roy throughout the entire renovation. Roy was professional, organized, and incredibly informative from start to finish. He was always available to answer questions, consistently showed up, and personally managed every stage of the project. Everyone worries about cost, but honestly -- you get what you pay for. The results speak for themselves: my new kitchen turned out miraculous and has become the centerpiece of my home that my family truly enjoys. Roy also updated my entry door and added recessed lighting in the dining room, which tied everything together beautifully. I couldn't be happier with the outcome and I'm already looking forward to having Four Seasons Builders remodel my three bathrooms in the future. Highly recommend

He is a competent professional and trusted contractor with a solid team of subcontractors who have been doing this work for decades. With this renovation, we brought our 1912 Craftsman bungalow down to the studs. This was a full-gut renovation that involved replacing all mechanicals, drywall, new bathrooms, new kitchen and doing a primary bath addition. With Gary's construction expertise, we were able to restore the home while maintaining its original charm and bring our design to life. Some of Gary's many contributions included framing a new tray/drop ceiling, installing custom window and door casings to match the originals. He also rebuilt the front porch railings and reinforced the porch ceiling so it would accommodate a porch swing. He built our backyard studio shed in just a couple days and it's adorable. While nearly everything is new, you can't tell. And that is a compliment to the quality of craftsmanship. Gary doesn't cut corners and it shows. It is very important that you trust your contractor and that they have integrity and do what they say they are going to do. Experience is also very important. Gary has all of this. We will definitely be calling Gary for the next house we buy. We can't recommend him enough.
