I contracted with Josh for our company holiday party of around 30 people at Ridge Vineyards in Cupertino. After calling around, I had three different people mention Josh so it was an easy decision. They took care of everything - it was completely turn key. I only had to make some selections from their menu, which was the hardest part because there were so many good options. Food was great, service was great, and everything went off flawlessly. Can't wait to work with these guys again. read more

Yes, Josh and his crew did a fabulous job with our spur-of-the-moment holiday dinner party! He came over to help us plan with just a few days notice, and let me tell you: the resulting dinner was such a success that our guests may have thought we'd been working on it for weeks. Everyone raved about the food (seriously, far better than anything we could have ordered had we gone out to a restaurant ...), and the presentation was impressive. So convenient to have such a freshly prepared meal straight out of our kitchen (which he and his staff cleaned quickly and meticulously before leaving) ... More about the food: I did not really know what to expect (for me, whenever someone else is doing the cooking, I generally tend to enjoy ... ), but the flavors of this meal were truly out of this world. My husband so loved the baby green salad that he asked for seconds (and this was no problem at all ... the chef just whipped up another plate). And the rack of lamb was simply amazing. Josh also accommodated our non-carnivore guests with what one described as the best sea bass she had tasted! Portions were perfect (everyone cleaned their plates and walked away more than satisfied), and the cobbler dessert was just enough sweet to perfectly finish the meal without being over the top. I was also amazed by how professional and friendly Josh's staff was. We had a small space to work with, and twelve guests mingling about ... Josh and his people wandered effortlessly about, making sure every detail was taken care of while somehow managing to not contribute to the chaos. All night they worked hard to ensure that the hostess did not have to ... I enjoyed every moment of the dinner party and I have Josh and his crew to thank. read more

Wonderful staff with great communication, flexibility and food! They were willing to accommodate all of our specific needs and modify on the dime as needed. Perfect for holidays and family events - large or small. We will definitely use them again!! read more

I hired Joshua Charles Catering for my father's memorial and I could not have been more pleased. Planning a memorial is obviously a very stressful and emotional time. You need a caterer that is on point and available within a few days notice. After calling several recommended caterers in the area all had the same pinwheel sandwiches and poached salmon. Me being a foodie, that was the furthest thing I wanted for the memorial. After reading the reviews on yelp, I thought what the heck, let's see how this guy is. Well, he was AMAZING! From the moment I spoke to Josh I knew he would help put on the memorial my father would have wanted. He was extremely professional and so considerate. Josh was immediately able to meet my very tight time table and took the initiative to set up an appointment to view the space and help me with menu selections. He was so easy to work with and what's even better was the food was OUTSTANDING!!! Everyone raved about the food and several people asked for his information. All of the appetizers were perfectly proportioned to one bite and were absolutely delicious. The staff were all so friendly and wrapped up all the leftovers for my family to take home without being asked. Everyone was so wonderful and the price was totally reasonable! I would use Josh again in a heartbeat. read more

I attended a yoga workshop near Mt Shasta catered by Josh Charles and can't say enough positive about the food and the service. Yogis are notoriously picky eaters - no dairy, no gluten, no ... And Josh and his team fulfilled everyone's needs and delivered great taste on top of it all. read more

Josh, Marian and Chef Mark are the best. We hired them to cater our wedding last weekend and are so happy we did. The food was amazing! We had some pretty specific requests (chicken & waffle appetizers, family style pizza as a main course...we love junk food ha!) and not only were they able to accommodate our idea of perfect wedding food...they knocked it out of the park. I had SO many people comment on how great the food was, and nobody went to the dance floor hungry! Marian was a joy to work with on the details & rentals and so incredibly helpful on the day of - she made magic happen with some pretty complicted logistics and I can't thank her enough. We loved working with these guys and can not recommend them highly enough. read more

Delicious, devine, decadent. Our son's Bar Mitzvah was a "wow" & Josh & co. were a huge part of the success. He's organized, attentive, cost effective -- and his food is yummy. He will work within your budget, listen to you, and go the extra mile to make your event a sccess. He also listened to our son, and treated him with great respect. Josh was on site the entire time for both our Shabbat dinner & the Bar Mitzvah, something I really appreciated. I would highly recommend Josh & would work with him again without hesitation. If only we had more than one child we'd be rebooking for the next Bar Mitzvah right now! read more

The catering was out of this world. We are still getting gushing compliments on the food. The food was beyond expectations in every way, especially considering we had a remote location without a proper kitchen and staff were working in a tent! Marian was the absolute best - she remained calm, cool and efficient and ensured the entire event went smoothly. She did not forget a thing. I would absolutely hire Joshua Charles again and would highly recommend the food, prior and day of service and bar tending to the most detail oriented customer. Thanks for making our wedding day at Villa Montara in Montara perfect! read more

I recently experienced JC's handiwork at an outdoor event for a nonprofit organization. I should emphasize that this was not just an outdoor event, but an outdoor event in a remote location on an open space preserve off Skyline Blvd, with no cooking, refrigeration, or other facilities available to the crew. The food was fresh and delicious--even though, given the above, they would have had to have made it a bit in advance of arriving at the event site. Salads were lightly dressed (which is a huge + in my book) and delicious; mains were flavorful and well-presented. What really pushed me to Star Number Five, though, was the amazing service. Each of JC's staff members was amazing. I was impressed when they used my name (okay, so I was wearing a nametag, but still) and when they asked--upon my taking of a small portion--if I wanted more. They handled us all professionally and with a smile. If I were hosting a wedding or other large party, I would definitely give these guys a look. That they were able to pull off delicious food for several hundred (ravenously hungry, fresh from hiking/biking/horse-riding) people on a hot day in August in a very remote location was itself an incredible feat. read more

I have had the pleasure of enjoying Joshua Charles' hors d'oeuvres on several occasions. His hors d'oeuvres are obviously made with the best ingredients because you can really taste all of the flavors. I also love that his appetizers are literally bite sized, which is imperative when you're standing, chatting and holding a glass in your other hand at a cocktail party. A lot of caterers seem to ignore this detail when they create hors d'oeuvres that are too large to be gracefully and politely consumed in a single bite. read more

One of the best caterers I've encountered in the Bay Area so far. Josh and his staff are talented, accomodating, easy to work with and needless to say - the food is DELICIOUS and so well presented. He did the catering for our company holiday party. He was provided feedback after the first tasting and prepared a second tasting shortly thereafter, completely having understood our requests and expectations. The results were outstanding. Some examples included thai red curry coconut lobster shooter with sweet potato chip, lemon thyme eclairs with new england lobster salad, polenta cups, and three-day braised short rib in a mini puff cup. Just to give everyone an idea how unique he can go. Oh, and his grasshopper bars are to die for. His decor was beautiful as well, together with some flameless votives that set the mood. In short - Josh and his staff will not disappoint you. read more

From the moment I emailed a request to Joshua Charles Catering to Josh's call after our event to make sure everything went okay, I have been more than pleased with the level of service I got from Josh and his staff. He was friendly and flexible to work with our needs, he worked within our limited budget, and was very responsive to all of my calls and emails, which was great because we had such a short timeline before the event was to occur (just over a week). He provided an amazing menu, and the day of our event went so smoothly! His staff (Marian & crew) was friendly, easy to work with, efficient, and very very helpful in the set up and take down of the event. And, of course, the food was amazing! We needed classic foods for some very cautious eaters, and he delivered. He came very highly recommended to me from a local event planner, and I can see why. Stop looking and book him. You won't be sorry. read more

You will not be disappointed with Joshua Charles Catering! They catered our August wedding and were wonderful to work with. Josh and team genuinely cared about providing us with a memorable event! We had a cocktail hour where hors d'oeuvres were passed and a sit down reception for 260+ people. It is a high achievement to be able to serve such a large crowd with consistently excellent food and service, but our family and friends have continued to rave about the amazing food as one of the highlights of the evening. I'm still dreaming about the Caribbean braised beef short ribs in the mini puff pastry cup (one of our appetizers)...my favorite. But seriously, I am not exaggerating that everything was delicious, on top of being beautifully presented! I highly recommend JCC to anyone looking to make an event special, as well as reduce the overall stress of planning. Josh worked hard for us on a menu/event that was beautiful and unforgettable. Joshua Charles catered my wedding in June - the following is my thank you note to him: Dear Josh, THANK YOU!! Thank you for the awesome food - thank you for being there EVERY STEP of the way, literally, and for being there in the extreme rush of things. Everything was smooth, I loved the food. There is nothing I can say - all I know is that I have the utmost trust in your product and your company -- if we had another event we would go with you again. Thank you so much for going above and beyond your call of duty, even being there with us at the church, helping us make sure the ceremony went smooth also! It was unforgettable. Evita read more

Every instance we've used Joshua Charles Catering as been wonderful. Every opportunity I've been a guest at an event catered by Joshua Charles Catering has been wonderful. The experience all around has been good. The staff is friendly and professional. They work hard (I've seen behind the scenes ;) but give the guests an experience of wonderful food with top notch customer service. I couldn't even tell you which food item was the best. Everything has been yummy. (Even the steak and I don't actually normally like steak.) If you want a delicious food, served in a relaxing atmosphere with the utmost professionalism you want to book Joshua Charles Catering. I was put in charge of organizing a small summer dinner party on behalf of my boss for her and her colleagues at her home. After contacting an extensive list of caterers in the Bay / Burligame area, I settled on Josh because of how professional, courteous and helpful he was during our preliminary conversations. Once we decided to go ahead with the contract, his level of professionalism didn't falter one bit, plus he turned out to be a REALLY nice guy! He helped with every step of the process, from the custom menu to the set up and all of the details, and he always had a prpomt response to all of my questions. The party ended up being a hit, my boss and her colleagues were SO happy with the food and how nice and efficient the service was. The direct response from my boss was: "Joshua is amazing. His food is truly scrumptious. He's extremely easy and accommodating. He's flexible and extremely professional. And did I mention, his food is absolutely delicious. Couldn't recommend more highly!" So high marks to Josh for making me look good with my boss too!! read more

Joshua Charles catered our wedding this past June. In looking for a caterer, we wanted someone who could produce high-quality Californian food for 200 guests, and their food was head and shoulders above anyone else we looked at. Each course (and the appetizers too) was very well executed and our guests loved it. Fresh, well prepared, and super-tasty. What more can you ask for. Would definitely use them again! read more

I had Josh cater my recent wedding. Josh and his team (Marion in particular) are very well organized and responsive during the planning phase. Found them helpful in suggesting cuisine that matched both my taste and wedding budget. Josh also has a firm grip on the shape and flow of events and is helpful in getting the best out of the space. Food wise - the best compliment I heard was from a guest who felt more like they were eating at a restaurant than at a wedding. The food team utilizes fresh, sourced, high end ingredients and prepares them in an elegant and direct manner. We had a number of passed bites, and then a sit down meal and I would say my highlights from the bites was the polenta and short rib and from the meal our day boat scallop appetizer. Service day of, was professional, timely and unobtrusive. Josh and Marion were both onsite. Thought the bar staff were friendly and warm. We used some of our own plates and silver and t the end of the night the team washed them for us and packaged them up. You only get married once - hopefully :-) - why not have the best? read more

I highly recommend joshua Charles Catering. He provided us with top-notch amuse-bouches for a birthday party on a very short notice. Greg D I recently arranged a surprise birthday party and used Yelp to find Joshua Charles Catering. In interviewing three companies, I arrived at using Joshua due to his creativity, professionalism, and willingness to work through details with us in planning this party. The day of the party, they arrived on time, set up for everything (according to our agreement), prepared a fantastic menu, and could not have been professional during the entire event. We circulated appetizers with cocktails, then a sit-down dinner followed by desserts. OUTSTANDING EVENT - everyone loved the tasty menu-- I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a true class event. read more

I just got married at the end of Aug and I had to come to YELP to review some the vendors that I used. I found the majority of my vendors on YELP and I am very fortunate that I found Joshua Charles Catering. I would say that I was a very detailed, organized and involved bride with high expectations. Josh and his team were able to partner with me and make my event very special. From the beginning with the planning, rental selection, menu selection, determining the time line and finally the wedding day, Josh's advice and input helped make my garden chic wedding come true. We had our event in our back yard, yet it did not feel like a backyard BBQ. The food was yummy and the staff was very professional. Our guests are still talking about the food and service that JCC provides. Josh and his team know what they are doing and I highly recommend their services. My review for Josh is long overdue. I have run an annual event for a local non-profit each spring for the last seven years... and I went through four different caterers before I found Josh. Once I found Josh, I knew that I didn't have to worry about the food and logistics of this part of my (all-day, super-stressful) event any longer. When you hire Josh, you can be sure that your servers will be on-time and professional, the food will be outstanding, presentation beautiful, and that your guests will leave happy and with a good impression of your organization. Plus, his prices are extremely reasonable. I cannot recommend Josh highly enough for helping make my event run smoothly. read more

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G - and on short notice too! We had a rather sudden need for a caterer for a company event, called on Tuesday afternoon and had the most incredible passed appetizers cooked in the host's home kitchen on Thursday evening. That must have been a very lucky break, I can imagine these guys are often booked solid - they ought to be. We had absolutely no issues, the food was amazing, the choices were luscious, the staff was more than accommodating (upon discovering that two of us were vegetarian, the chef created a vegetarian version of one of the items on the spot!). They set up and cleaned up, all without any fuss. Recommend HIGHLY! read more

Joshua Charles catered our party of twenty-two at our house last weekend. They were professional from start to finish and left me with no worries. I used this wonderful company for my wedding on 7-21-17. From beginning to end there was just so many wonderful things that I enjoyed; from the food tasting (awesome), food choices, chef who wanted to include those with food allergies, dedicated staff and wonderful accommodations for my elderly and disabled parents. I was told the food was by far the best at a wedding and I must agree. I thought the menu was locked but I was told to try the chicken, and I did. People asked me the day after the wedding if I had more chicken, and of course I didn't share. Even the rental company, Hensley Event Resources had the best linens, glasses, everything was EXACTLY the way I envisioned it for our wedding. Josh was the best. Marian, she's a bit hyper but I absolutely adore her. If you want class, elegance, and affordability I recommend Josh for any event. We will definitely use them again in the future. My wife and I had been in search of a caterer for our upcoming wedding for several months to no avail. Tasting after tasting, we left with a feeling that the food was "okay", not awful, but far from fantastic. Patricia and I are foodies, in fact, you could call us food snobs. We appreciate and value fine cuisine. Our wedding was a mere 5 months away and the pressure was mounting. Needless to say, we were becoming disheartened and worried. We stumbled across Joshua Charles Catering at a wedding faire held at the Four Seasons in San Francisco. We scheduled a tasting, after which all of our fears and concerns were laid to rest. My review of the performance of Joshua Charles Catering is without hyperbole. From timeliness, to preparation, to presentation, to quality their performance was exceptional. After the tasting, we knew we had found a great set of chefs and that the food would be delicious. Yet, on the day my wife and I and our guest were blown away by the phenomenal quality of the food. Moreover, the design and creation of the dishes took our personality and taste into account. As such, the food was absent of any cookie cutter type of feeling. For example, some of the favorite dishes were the following: - Glazed Suckling Pig served with forbidden rice and Szechuan green beans - Thai Seafood Salad, fresh calamari and prawns, steamed with lemongrass and ginger dressed with mint and Serrano chili oil - Herb Crusted Lamb Loin served with creamy polenta and braised chanterelle mushrooms - Scallop Ceviche spoons, with Annaheim pepper salad and white truffle oil These items are is just a portion of the incredible dishes created. Joshua Charles catered our Junior-Senior prom. The food served was incredible and the service was extremely attentive. Joshua Charles was very adaptive to our needs. Joshua Charles was willing to adhere to our limited budget and when we had a last minute furniture arrangement crisis, Joshua came to our rescue. Without that last minute help from Joshua Charles, our prom would have surely been a disaster. On the subject of food, this catering company provided us with a delicious array of appetizers and main courses, ranging from braised pork belly lettuce cups to delicious sliders. I wholeheartedly recommend using Joshua Charles, and I certainly will in the future. read more

This company gets one star because their staff was polite and professional, including giving me a discount because of my dissatisfaction with the food and presentation. My event was for 27 people, appetizers and desserts. I hired Joshua Charles based on the reviews that had been given and the gorgeous photos posted on their site. The presentation was nothing close to the photos. Food was simply placed on platters, not even a sprig of parsley or a lettuce leaf to add some kind of color. In addition, the food was tasteless and did not even look appetizing. My guests, sadly, went home hungry. read more

Joshua Charles Catering is a must for your next event! For starters, my inquiry about availability was in the evening and Joshua called me within minutes...then after we discussed my event, he sent me a menu that same evening. Wow! No other caterer has ever done this. My event was today -- the delivery of our food was early, not late, and everyone raved about the meal. Excellent! Delish! My colleagues told me we should use Joshua Charles Catering from now on. FYI, my co-workers are snobs about ingredients and the quality of their food. We also wanted a caterer that uses organic ingredients. Joshua Charles Catering met all of our catering needs and is five stars in our eyes. Thanks Josh for a great job...I definitely will be calling you for all of my events! read more

Joshua Charles catered our wedding. While the event was successful and there were no disasters, we had some disappointments with the service. More on those below. What really infuriated us was that, two weeks after the event, Joshua charged our credit card an additional 20% beyond the agreed price for the event (which already included gratuity). This was done without our permission and without even warning us first; he charged our card and simultaneously sent a revised invoice. The bulk of the new charges came from a 40% increase in labor charges. Upon investigating, it turned out that the original proposal had not included any time for the staff to setup or tear down the event! Joshua pointed to a line in the fine print stating that staff hours were only estimates and that we were responsible for whatever hours they actually worked. It really stretches my imagination to think that someone who caters events for a living could have forgotten that the staff would need to show up 2 hours before the event. If it was an honest mistake, I would expect a preemptive explanation and apology, and a true professional would eat the extra cost himself. Instead we were made to feel unreasonable and greedy for protesting these egregious cost overruns. After weeks of haggling, during which we had to threaten to have the charge reversed by our credit card company, Joshua did give us back a little more than half of the extra money he'd taken. This still left us having paid hundreds of dollars extra for service we found lacking, not to mention the added stress of several weeks of arguing by email and telephone. Now about the service. These were not a huge deal, but they did not leave us in the mood to be paying a 20% bonus! - Weeks before the event we requested a tasting to help decide on our menu. Joshua assured us this was no problem, but did not follow through despite repeated reminders from us. Finally, a week before the event, he conceded that it was too late. - We arranged for a few specific cocktails to be highlighted at the bar. We provided detailed instructions on how to prepare them, although a competent bartender should not have needed that. The staff completely botched the cocktails. For example, they just poured the ingredients for a sazerac together over ice, as if it were a rum and coke. - We arranged for one of the appetizers to be scaled-up and substitute for one of the entrees. Joshua said this wouldn't be a problem, but it didn't happen. We just got the normal appetizer at the entree price. read more

For my wife's 40th birthday, I wanted to throw her a surprise party she would never forget. My quest was to find a Paleo friendly caterer and came across Joshua Charles Catering. They were in my area and had great Yelp reviews so I thought I'd give them a try. Boy was I glad I made the decision to go with them! From the start, Josh was a pleasure to work with. Warm and friendly over the phone and he promptly sent me over a quote with a fantastic menu choice. I honestly had a hard time deciding because everything sounded so delicious. JCC also offers organic meats btw. With my menu set, I worked with JCC's event planner, Marian, for the party details. She was a pleasure to work with. Being a guy, I had no clue what to pick for tables, chairs, dishes, silverware, etc. Marian helped me with all the details, big and small, and even picked out flowers and balloons that complimented the table and décor fabulously. The day of the party, the JCC team showed up on schedule and had the house set up in a blink of an eye. My living room was turned into a 5-star dining room...it was beautiful! The house permeated with wonderful smells as guest trickled in. Marian and team worked their magic in my small kitchen, and magically whipped out tasty temptations. They were such a pleasure and provided such great service that I felt like I was in a fine establishment and not in my own house. We had 25 people in total and everyone gushed at how incredible the food tasted and how amazing everything looked. Most importantly, the birthday girl was so surprised and happy with everything:) Thanks JCC for making my wife's big day an incredible event to remember! I had the distinct pleasure of working with Josh from Joshua Charles Catering and his team recently and I can't say enough about my experience. I am an event producer (25 year veteran) based in San Francisco and found myself faced with a very last minute event for a client in the South Bay. Normally I would personally vet a caterer that I had had not worked with before as I am VERY picky. Joshua Charles did come recommended by a fellow producer, but it still makes me nervous if I have not had first hand experience. Josh and his team worked with me and my crazy deadline and ever changing numbers for service for a cocktail reception, a breakfast and lunch. Team work not withstanding, the best news over all was that the food was delicious! My client and their guests were raving about it and several asked if there were any leftovers to take home it was so good. :) A ++ for Joshua Charles. Just wanted to update as we hired JC Catering to do another event for us, this time a dinner for 8 at our home. They knocked our socks off again! They handled everything from tables/chairs/linens/servingware rental to delicious appetizers and a full dinner which included some of the best haricot vert and bavette steak I've ever tasted! Chef Miguel and a server were on site, arrived early, created our delicious meal, laid out an expertly presented spread, and left our kitchen even cleaner than when he arrived. He was also super personable and professional. My husband, the more ornery one between the two of us, really enjoyed their service and is trying to find excuses to throw dinner parties as a result. Will definitely use JC Catering for future events. read more
