I will never go anywhere else for car repairs! Tomo at Josho Auto saved me a LOT of money when i had to get my 2010 Mazda CX-7 repaired. I had been having ongoing problems with my fuel injection and ignition coils and had taken my car to 2 Mazda dealerships to get the same problem fixed. Each time the repairs would cost about $1200-1500! Within 3 months of the last repair, my engine light came back on. So i did a lot of research on the engine problem via youtube and speaking to other Mazda car owners. I came across Tomo at Josho Auto in the comments section of a Youtube video on Mazda CX-7 repairs. I Yelped him, and he checked out. So i called and was able to make an appointment with him that same week. When I showed up for my appointment, he quickly ran some diagnostics and explained to me what was going on. I had to replace a fuel Injector and ignition coil. That repair at Mazda would be $1500 minimum and would take at least 8-10 hours in labor. Tomo quoted me $800 and my car would be done in 6 hours!!! I dropped my car at 8am and got it back at 2pm the same day! I paid exactly how much he quoted me and he showed me all the parts he had replaced. My car ran better than when i got it back from the Mazda dealerships! Since then i have had one other problem and took it to Tomo. He looked at the diagnostic, switched around some parts, and my car was good to go!! He did that for free and without an appointment!! He has totally saved me from financial disaster twice and got my car running like new! You can trust this guy! He is my go to mechanic Costa Mesa! read more

I've been coming to Tomo for 5 or more years now and he is absolutely amazing. My background is mechanical engineering and Tomo is hands down one of the best I've ever worked with. I had a few brake jobs on my car before I moved to OC, and they were never great. Squeaky and winey. NEVER with Tomo. If you have a Nissan or Infiniti, Tomo is your man, not to worry though, if you have another high end car you love, take it here, you won't be disappointed. read more

Josho is an amazing auto service location. When I had no start issues with my 1984 mazda RX7, he got me in in a week and found every issue in less than 24 hours. If I started here, the car would have been running in December for half the price I ended up spending. read more

After purchasing a 97 Miata, I called in for a quote for a clutch replacement. Tomo replied with the lowest price while using OEM parts. He discovered a few more issues while the transmission was out and confirmed with me before ordering more parts. Overall, I was very satisfied with the price, the quality of work, and the communication I received. I would 100% recommend this shop! read more

Greatest repair shop in OC, very reliable. I have been to this shop for over 10 years for repair and maintenance. Strongly recommend Josho auto to you if you have any problems with your cars or if you are looking for the best shop near you. read more

I've taken the car here for both routine maintenance and major repair. The shop is sort of hidden away down a side street among some other auto-related businesses. He's always done a great job and his rates are very fair. He is very professional and will take the time to patiently explain what work he will do and show you each and every replacement part. It's refreshing to find an honest, nice guy like this in the auto repair business. Definitely make an appointment first as a good mechanic like this can be busy. He won't keep your car waiting forever like some repair places. read more

Good service! I got an oil change here a few months ago and it was pretty cheap. Less than $20. I came back here to get some maintenance and service done. The mechanic/owner is really nice and friendly. He does good work and gets things done in a timely manner. Since he does things himself, it's good to get an appointment ahead of time if you want something done. There's also a nice ferrari thats nice to look at there! *___* read more

called joshos and asked him about my rolls royce that tends to have a slow start. Josho Auto flat out said they dont want to work on it. Josho if thats the case then you need to change your advertising. Glad business is that good you can pick and chose what cars to work on. read more

Our car refused to start last weekend, so my husband phoned to ask about a service appointment. Well, we didn't get that far, which was actually a good thing. Tomo asked what make of car, what year, and in a politely direct way instructed us to call AAA for battery service. Thanked us for calling, and that was it. See, that's still awesome service in my book. If anything more pressing comes up, this place will be our first call. read more

I promised Tomo, the owner and mechanic, that i would write him a positive review if I liked the service I received last weekend. I left super satisfied and so here it is! : I don't know much about cars and hate taking my car (a VW) into auto shops for maintenance and service because I'm always paranoid about getting taken advantage of (i.e.: did they really do everything per the scope of work? did I really need to get this done? did they hike up the price? did they do a thorough job?) I'm happy to say that I did NOT find myself questioning the service I received at Josho Auto. I knew it was off to a good start when I called to make an appointment - usually the guys at auto shops sound cocky or robotic, but Tomo sounded so friendly and appreciative of incoming business. Indeed, when I walked into his shop the morning of my appointment I was greeted with a big smile. He was serious and took the initiative to tell me what he was going to do for the oil change and check-up (I'm used to being the one asking about the scope), so I already felt like I (or my car) was in good hands. An hour later, I came back to pick up my car and Tomo went over the service and of his findings. The same problem that the VW dealer revealed 4 months ago was identified and even though Tomo quoted me $5 more than the dealer, I instantly decided to let him do the repairs. Why? 1) I like to help out small businesses that deserve it 2) he was so detailed in explaining the problem to me and 3) I trusted his practice and 4) I liked the location of his shop (good eateries and South Coast plaza all within walking distance - good stuff while you wait...) I am so glad I found Josho Auto and am going to recommend him to anyone who needs their (European) car serviced! Thanks Tomo! read more

Brought my Mazda here due to a check engine light. Tomo quickly diagnosed the problem and had my car fixed in the same afternoon. I agree with all the comments regarding Tomo; he is an honest mechanic who definitely knows his way around Japanese cars. I also appreciate the fact that he showed me the broken part and what went wrong. Would definitely go back! read more

I called in a few places to see where I could get my car an oil change. I don't know much about cars so I wanted something easy, non-sleazy and reasonable. After calling a few places I decided this was the best! He said it'd take 30 min if I made an appointment. It was worth the $28! (I had a coupons in the mail for different places for $20 oil changes...but those places quoted 1.5 hour waits....ew!) I think Oil Stop quoted me $40 for a 30 min wait. I drive a pretty standard car, a 2006 Corolla S. So Josho's seemed a great bang for my buck and time. What was even awesomer is that Josho and his wife are so sweet and professional. I was thinking about walking 2 blocks to The Camp but didn't have time (they were done quick enough...yay!) I would definitely come back for another oil change or repair. read more

This dude is a legend. No pushy sales techniques - just a great mechanic who is good to his clients. Front brakes replaced and he noted the back ones were due but could wait. I appreciated his honesty. He changed my oil as well, and the whole appointment only took 2 hours. Also, prices were extremely reasonable. read more

Tomo is a very good and honest mechanic. He saved me from replacing my power steering when I got second opinion from him. He tells you what you should do in the future. He doesnt push un-necessary maintenance like the chain garages are required to do on every visit. He will put you on a good preventive maintnance schedule and will not push anything you dont need. read more

I changed jobs and needed to find a good car repair shop near my work. I searched Yelp and liked the reviews I read about Josho Auto. Tomo was professional and very patient with me when explaining the repairs I needed for my Toyota Highlander. I found the costs to be reasonable and will return for future repairs and oil changes. If you're sick of dealership salesmen being impatient and rude when bringing your car in for repair, I highly recommend Josho Auto. read more

A few months ago, my 1998 Corolla failed to start. AAA roadside assistance personnel had checked the battery and starter and found no issues. I chose to take the care to Josho Auto based on the Yelp reviews and ratings. I am glad that I took it to Tomo. Tomo is quick with his diagnosis and provided a reasonable quote. He changed the spark plugs, cleaned the injector (was blocked) and changed the oil (my oil lamp was ON). After the service, the car showed a marked improvement in ride quality and engine noise. I have tried different auto mechanics for my car and my experience with Tomo has by far been the best one. I highly recommend him for your car's service requirements. read more

I bought my 1999 Porsche 911 2 years ago. Tomo was the prior owner's mechanic, and I have happily stayed with him. He cares about your car, and he treats it as if it is his. He tells you what you need and what can wait. He is honest and you can trust what he tells you. read more

Josho Auto - Tomo Hanzaki with three cars - Auto Repair Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

Tomo is a true Japanese car specialist, very nice guy and honest. I took my Mazda Miata to Josho Auto to replace the starter, the service was well done and the price was fair (I had this job done before). Tomo did the job quite fast (without previous appointment), and also gave me some advice on other aspects of the car. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Great service at Josho Auto. Brought my Chevy Tracker (Suzuki) for a new clutch. Finish as promised and showed me the old worn out parts. He also offered to replace a part that made sense to do while the transmission was out (charged me only for the part-no additional labor). Honest and friendly. He works alone and focuses on one car at a time-so he is booked up a week or so in advance but well worth the wait. read more

Called to ask a few questions before I brought the car in and they were being super rude. Definitely won't be going here.

There's a reason why you have to book a month in advance for Tomo -- he's that good, honest, and reasonable. As a woman with little no knowledge about cars, I can ask for nothing more. I trust Tomo and many of his clients will tell you that's why they come back and only have Tomo work on their cars. read more

So not only was Tomo an amazing mechanic - he really cares for his customers. His awesome wife works there with him and she is wonderful as well. They both took the time to talk to me and make me feel at home (in a car shop right?). What a great place to take my vehicle and trust them with a warranty job that had to be done "the right way" by a pro. And Tomo is that consummate professional you can count on. He is focused, works fast and knows exactly what he is doing. Everything is purposeful. This is what you get when you have a Mazda Pro Racing Team Master Mechanic working on your car. I was really impressed. What did not surprise me was how he has a perfect, 5 star score here on Yelp. I highly, highly recommend his services to anyone who treat their own car like family - because he will too. read more

Tomo did a great job servicing my 1994 Mazda RX-7 last week. He had all the parts pre-ordered, including rotary-specific 20W50 Idemitsu oil. An appointment is a must. I was able to drop-off on a Friday and pick the car up on Saturday morning. The car was delivered back clean and on-time for a very fair and reasonable price. I had maintenance performed (LOF, fuel filter, spark plugs, brake fluid flush) light mechanical work (replacement of the combo switch w/ clock spring, a few vacuum hoses, and an oil pressure sending unit) and a compression test. It's wonderful to have someone working on your car who is knowledgeable, is an enthusiast, and takes pride in their work. read more
