We came to Joseph's for brunch on a Sunday morning. We had basic orders (eggs, toast) and waited over 30 minutes before asking a waiter where our food was and during that time no one even came by to check on us. He told us our food would be out in 2 minutes. About 8 minutes later, some food came out, but it was not ours. We decided to take our business elsewhere and left. The young staff obviously did not receive a lesson in customer service from the owners. The place also seemed dirty - it was our mistake for even sitting down. My recommendation is to grab breakfast from around the corner. read more

What a fantastic place. Homemade food and the pizza can't be beat. However, if you are only getting pizza here you are missing out, their pastas are first rate. Very underwhelmed...it looks like the food would be better than it was. The calamari came out of a box and comes with ketchup. The pizza was special delivery from Papa John's. The salad was ordinary. Like I have said before...a sprinkle of Feta Cheese does not a Greek salad make! I guess I shouldn't have expected much from Jacksonville. I get off the plane and ask the guy at the he rental car place for a restaurant suggestion and he tells me to go to Joe's Crab Shack. SERIOUSLY! Like it was a big deal. Nice little Italian place. Not fancy, but a couple tables outside next to the sidewalk as well as indoor seating. The food is priced reasonably. I've had calzones that I couldn't put down (made for a painful walk home) and the pizza is pretty good. I've also been here a few times for gelato alone. Worth a try! read more

I would give them more stars Bc I like the food but the service is so slow. So so so slow. The owners wife is always sitting at a table with her girlfriends getting service while the rest of the customers are watching and waiting. And the facilities are so gross. Don't look in the kitchen. Don't look in the bathroom. I really like their pizza. But that's about it. I received a plate that had black mold growing underneath it, I took a picture, please see below. It's so freaking gross. Imagine what the rest of the silverware and dishes look like. Imagine what the kitchen looks like!!! The inside of the restaurant is cluttered with tables and the counter is in an awkward position (you have to weave in between tables and people eating just to get to it), which makes for weird flow. We were walking around looking for something to eat and we saw the sign for Joseph's. There were several diners outside and their pizza looked delicious so we went in. We sat at the counter because it was very crowded and we were immediately greeted by the manager who helped us. The pizza was amazing. One star not for the food but you advertise that you are open until 11:00 pm but we come in at 10:00 and you are only serving slices AND you are putting chairs up on the tables while people are eating in the dining room. All day I have been thinking about how I can't wait to go home and enjoy my leftovers from Joseph's! I can't believe I've lived in Jax for 3 years and yesterday was the first time I tried Joseph's. Being from New England I've been SUPER disappointed with the pizza (and just italian food in general) down here. I was pleasantly surprised with the food, service and prices at Joseph's. I had a house Pinot Grigio (pretty good), caesar salad (average), side of grilled mushrooms (seasoned and cooked perfectly), and a gourmet pizza called The Venice which had garlic, shrimp, goat & mozz cheese (omg what a great cheese blend) and I had it with pesto instead of tomato sauce. That pizza absolutely rocked! So fresh & flavorful & cheesy. A thin crust like I prefer. I also tried my friend's fried eggplant parm which was soooo good - again so fresh and cooked perfectly. It's a small restaurant but it does have outdoor seating - great to people watch in Neptune Beach. Everything looked & smelled great! Joseph's Pizza is hands down the best Italian restaurant in town! Every time I go I am amazed by their quality food and service. Besides excellent food and a fun beach environment, Joseph's portion sizes are huge! Pictured is their Baked Ziti with a GIGANTIC meatball to top it off. It also came with soup or salad (not pictured, but I got the Italian Wedding soup and is was delicious!) and garlic bread. I still had plenty of leftovers to have a whole other meal for lunch the next day. Bring your family and friends to Joseph's next time you are at the beach. You won't regret it! My hub and I strolled in at about 7:45PM on Saturday. Were were able to grab a table right away. We were there for a date night. The crowd was a good mix of casual families, friends and couples. I opted for the 10in Joseph's Special(I think that was the name) sans anchovies and my Hub ordered the chicken parm. I had an Engine 15 beer while waiting the 1/2 hour for my pizza. I loved my pizza!! I honestly can eat a 10 to 12 in pizza in a sitting(I like my food!)at other establishments. I was only able to eat half because the toppings were not lacking!! I love the fact that even though the pizza had alot of meat on it, it was not greasy or soggy. Ok... the crust is hands down my fav in Jax and the surrounding areas!! It was crisp with a nice non gummy bite. I would have like just a little more sauce and cheese.... but honestly that's nit picking because it was all perfectly balanced. My hub enjoyed his fried chicken parm, cut able with a fork! It was marinated with flavor and the sauce chunky and packed with spices and veggies. The fettuccini was of good quality and almost perfectly al dente. I will admit the sauce is an acquired taste, but you can tell that somebody's Nonnie took pride with her recipe. The service was amazing, attentive without being over bearing. It's a pup friendly place with tables outside! I really hope my new fav place doesn't disappoint in the future like others have. I have been to Joseph's a lot lately. I am travelling to Jacksonville on business, and it is good to find a place that is not too big, with great food. Sitting just off Atlantic, Joseph's doesn't have the crowds of its rival just up the street. I guess the choice is greater there. That is fine with me; the quality is better at Joseph's. They make a good calzone, and I really like their cheesecake. Service is usually good/great, and I love sitting outside watching the weather go by. read more

Joseph's pizza in general did not disappoint in quality, but the staff and service did. The inside is extremely small and the prices per slice with toppings are pretty outrageous. $ 6.77 for one slice of meat lovers pizza! Almost $4 for a sausage slice. That being said, I was with a group and we all ordered slices and it was busy inside. To my delight the pizza slice came out in a few minutes and it was excellent. After about 15 minutes the restaurant started to clear out more and I decided to order another slice with one topping. Out of the 10-12 tables inside half were empty. My friends left and it's now about 20 minutes later and no slice. I could see the cashier talking to a guy in the back asking for it several times over and over. Two more guys came in at that point and ordered the same thing as me and actually got their slices in 2-3 minutes. Finally mine came out. Being in the service industry when I was younger I know my management would have at the very least not charged for that debacle. They had no qualms blowing it off and taking my money. Epic fail in service. It's a slice of pizza not a steak, where they are making a ton of profit off dough and sauce and one topping. I would happily put on a massive amount of weight to be able to enjoy their garlic knots and calamari everyday, however I settle for going a couple times a month. Took a group of 8 there for dinner Saturday night. Small place on the beach side but they are always very accommodating in getting us seated. Garlic knots are the best here, get them "swimming" in garlic butter.....delicious. We had three different types of pizza while we were there and all were very good. They took very good care of my parents who are older but love Josephs, finding and brewing a fresh pot of decaff coffee just for them. I have been to the place a few years back and remembered it to be pretty good. I decided to go with my wife today & was disappointed. We started with an appetizer of calamari. I asked the waitress if it was fresh or frozen? She told me she didn't know, but it was a good seller at the restaurant. We decided to give it a try. When we received the appetizer the calamari was so greasy like they didn't give it enough time to drain and just threw it on a plate. They served it with some sauce that is supposably house made but to me taste like cocktail sauce and ketchup mixed together. We had to take each piece of calamari and pat it with a napkin to remove alot of the grease. I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza as my main dish and my wife the chicken parm sandwich. My pizza was just ok. I could have done without the lettuce and tomato on a hot pizza. Lettuce does not taste good hot and way to much ranch sauce on the pizza. My wife's parm sandwich was way to soggy to much sauce and they fried a bunch of tiny chicken nuggets for the chicken probably frozen chicken. Disappointed should have been a fresh battered chicken breast. Fries were also ordered with my wife's food they were soggy under cooked and no one likes soggy pretty much raw fries. Fries are not hard to cook. Drop In oil fry til golden brown? Very nice people clean place nothing wrong with the atmosphere it's a very nice place. The food needs to be up lifted.
