Let me preface this review by stating that I am very sensitive about my dental health because I am extremely proactive (brush 3x daily, floss daily, I watch sugar intake, don't smoke, don't drink sodas, don't eat lemons or rocks, etc...) although I am genetically predispositioned for incurably bad teeth. I was a patient of Dr. Siragusa's for several years before I moved to Florida. I put up with his assanine comments and rudeness because his office was literally right across the street from my apartment so I could just conveniently walk to an appointment, the hygienist at the time was amazing (Vicky...she has, unfortunately, since retired), they accepted my military insurance, and I had already been established there so it was honestly just easier to stay. He never had anything pleasant to say. He was very critical of my weight, diet, and uvula. I know, sounds crazy, because it is. He totally hated my uvula, said it was too large, never missed a chance to point it out. Also said my mouth was too small. Yeah ohhkaaay, anywho fast forward to 2014...So, I moved back to VA and figured I would be loyal (because that's how I kick it) and choose his practice again since the prices were always fair and the work was competent. I made an appointment for me and my 2 kids and expected to see Vicky but was totally bummed that she had retired. In fact, his entire staff changed in the 3 years I lived in Florida. Weird! The new receptionist, Brittany, is very sweet and young. The hygienist I had was fine. Although in my records, she noted issues she never brought to my attention and notated things that she never actually said to me. Dr. Siragusa came in for the exam and actually said something nice. I was floored. He said I have nice skin. Wow, that was a first from him. He said at that visit everything looked pretty good but wanted me to come back in soon for an X-ray of a possible problem area. I made and kept the appointment. He did the X-rays and then proceeded to teach me how to floss, condescendingly asking if I went too fast or just didn't "...understand how to do it". Look people, I'm 36 & floss every day with actual floss and my waterpik at night. I was so embarrassed but I just sat there while he demonstrated how to do it. He just kept verbally antagonizing the situation, I felt miserably small and completely disrespected. He asked about my home habits, I told him the truth, he disbelievingly said, "yeah yeah yeah, that's what everyone says." I'd had it @ that point, I canceled future appointments and now have a new dentist. It honestly felt degrading to consider a continuation of his services. I want to mention again though that he is a competent dentist if you can deal with his attitude...maybe he just didn't like me...or my insurance, I dunno. I need more than merely competent though. I certainly don't need to dread the dentist. It sounds ridiculous but my dentist in Florida was so stellar, I actually looked forward to going...because I'm a psychopath. read more
