June 4, 2026 RE: Complaint Regarding Treatment at Aspen Dental - Hampton, Virginia 1070 W Mercury Bl Hampton Va 23666 I am submitting this complaint regarding my experience with Aspen Dental in Hampton, Virginia, on June 4, 2026. At approximately 8:45 a.m., I received multiple back-to-back telephone calls from an employee identified as Jennifer. I returned the call within approximately ten minutes after listening to her voicemail. During the return call, I politely asked that, going forward, I not be called repeatedly in rapid succession because I am a disabled veteran with a severe service-connected anxiety disorder. I specifically stated that my request was related to my disability and my need to maintain reasonable personal boundaries. Jennifer initially apologized. However, after I made this request, she informed me that my appointment had been cancelled. I arrived at the office shortly thereafter to discuss the matter in person. Jennifer's demeanor remained dismissive and unprofessional. I then spoke with an individual identified as Tammy, who stated she was the office manager. I attempted to explain that my concern was not the request for insurance information itself, but rather the repeated back-to-back calls and the cancellation of my appointment after I disclosed my disability and requested that my boundaries be respected. I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously. Rather than addressing my complaint, I was told that Jennifer had done nothing wrong and that I had been rude to the employee. At no time did I raise my voice, threaten anyone, or refuse to provide information. I simply requested that future communications take my disability into consideration. My appointment was scheduled to address an urgent dental concern. Being told that my appointment was cancelled immediately after disclosing my disability and requesting a reasonable accommodation caused me significant emotional distress. Following the incident, I contacted Aspen Dental Corporate and spoke with Brian L., who documented my complaint. He expressed concern regarding the circumstances and acknowledged that the repeated calls and handling of the situation were problematic. As a 100% disabled veteran with a documented anxiety disorder, I believe my disability-related concerns were disregarded and that I was treated differently after disclosing my disability. Whether intentional or not, the result was that I lost access to a scheduled dental appointment after requesting consideration for a disability-related need. I respectfully request that Aspen Dental conduct a review of this incident, including the recorded telephone call, determine whether company policies were followed, and provide a written response regarding the findings. I also request clarification regarding Aspen Dental's policies concerning disability accommodations and the cancellation of patient appointments under these circumstances. Terribly disappointed! The dentist was very pleasant and seemed quite competent but otherwise it was a bad experience! I didn't completely understand that my first visit would be for an evaluation only! Was under the impression my teeth would be cleaned the same day! Without any discussion about my cleaning I was ushered how to the front to pay up and told I needed a deep cleaning and they couldn't start till I paid $500 which was just a portion of the total cost! Newport News, VA won't answer their phones for the love of God. They don't care either because my fiancé left several messages 5 to be exact and still haven't responded. Then I called on my phone to set his appointment but got a voicemail instead of a human and without giving them my phone number...they called my phone back asking for him and then hung up as I was passing to my fiancé. We are done with this place do not go here. RUN!! They are fired. My brother got a set of dentures from Aspen dental a year ago. Guaranteed fit or your money back. Well after spending about $6000 for the $499 dentures as advertising television they still do not fit. He has been back several times for fitting they still do not fit. Aspen dental will not give him a new set. They do not hold up to their guarantee. In my opinion, I would stay 100% clear of their doors. I have been with Aspen for 2 years Since November 2023. In that timeframe I have seen 3 different doctors and 3 different associates. I started wearing dentures in 1999 and wore them until I dropped my upper and broke it in November 2023 with no problems in all those years, would probably be still wearing except I broke my upper. Aspen made me new upper and lower in November 2023. I have been back about 20 times for lower denture for adjustments and the fact they keep cracking in the same area. Recently I had to go in because my upper denture started cracking. They did a repair that didn't last a week. I went back they did another repair, they said my bite was off. That repair did not last a week. So they said I need new uppers, I have been waiting 3 weeks for new upper denture even though I complained that crack was hurting my gums and under my upper lip because the crack had almost separated the 2 front teeth. I was told all they could do for me is tell me to eat soft food until they come back. It has been 3 weeks of eating soft food, totally ruined my Thanksgiving. Said no need for me to come in because they should have been in by the end of the week. Even though I was eating soft food I still had to chew the food. Didn't get the compassion for the fact I could not eat and it was making my mouth sore when I chewed anything soft or otherwise. They need more staff (dentist) so when there is a problem they can bring you in and try to elevate the problem instead of telling you they are busy and to continue eating soft foods. From their ads I thought they were a good dentist office. As of December 4, 2025, I still have not got my upper denture and this one is hanging on by a thread. read more

It's beyond shocking how a "professional" office can be so disorganized and no one seemingly having a clue on what they are doing. I set up an appointment 2 weeks ago to have a tooth repaired (front tooth was chipped many years ago and the cap in it recently fell out). I also recently got x-rays and appear to need a couple cavities, but this is a lower priority for me as really need front tooth repaired. When I made appointment, I made it clear that I already had recent x-rays at another dentist just a couple weeks ago but wasn't interested in going back based on ridiculous overpriced quotes. I told them I could provide my recent x-rays and they said this wouldn't be a problem. I also stated that if they can't do my cavities right away based on x-ray issues then its fine but I really need my chipped front tooth repaired ASAP and they said that was fine. 1 1/2 weeks went by and I get a call and asked me what services I was going in for which confused me how they didn't know as I made it extremely clear before I would even finalize my appointment. They told me they can't except external x-rays and everything how to be done in that office and that I would have to pay for the x-rays myself as insurance wouldn't pay for another set of x-rays so soon. I kept telling them I don't need new x-rays but they won't accept ones I just had so I told them I can go without cavities being fixed by need chipped front tooth fixed and don't see any reason why x-rays needed for that (this has been refilled a few times over the decades and never once has xrays been taken for that). They refused and said I could only be seen as a new patience and go through the initial exam (which I just went through a a different dentist and have all the records of). They had no answer for me as to why an appointment was scheduled and why they said it wouldn't be a problem when I origianlly called. I said I wasn't okay with doing exact same thing I just did and having to pay for it so they cancelled my appointment. 5 hours later, I get a call back from the same dentist. I initially thought they grew some common sense and was going to assist me after all, but nope, they asked to confirm my appointment and asked what I was needing to be seen for. I was disgusted at what horrible communication they have. I informed them that someone called me 5-hours earlier and told me she cancelled my appointment because I was refusing to have x-rays done again and paying for them out of pocket since I just had some done. She was surprised and I told her that they really needed to figure out how to communicate there and I again confirmed my appointment was cancelled as I refused to agree to their terms as they breached what was told to me when I originally made the appointment. The next day, I was super annoyed to see that I got not one, but two text messages from Aspen Dental to confirm my appointment for the next weekday!! I mean come on now, how incompetent can these office staff be? I'm glad my appointment was cancelled as there is no way I want to do business with a company that is so incompetent that they can't figure out what is going on. read more

Do not prepay for services. NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE NOR RETURN MESSAGES. Beware of sly dialed calls to avoid talking to you. I tried resolving issues so that I could get what I paid for and be done with them but now they are avoiding me again. I just want a return of the money I paid for the services I have not received from the agreement we made a year ago. I have filed a BBB complaint and will file a complaint w/the dental association. I am looking at other avenues so that I can get what I need back to pay another provider to get me out of this nightmare and for me not to be in pain anymore. I also do not want to see anyone else go through this. If I don't have any relief soon (I will not go back to this place, money back is the only option at this time since I tried this already) I will go to media. I'd give less than a star if I could. 1. The sign says dental emergencies AND Walk ins welcomed... I walked in and was turned away as both a walk in and an emergency after I called to ensure I could walk in. 2. The sign also references insurance not being an issue. I have insurance... didn't have my policy info and was yet again turned way forward service. 3. When I did get service the tech was so rude and short with me if I hadn't had an emergency I would have left. 4. The Doctor was was not empathic said there was nothing she could do... referred me to a "regular" dentist. Arrived in pain... left in pain. Oh the best part was "we will need a full comprehensive exam (not unreasonable)....See 5 5. I see the scheduler...I'm in tears by now. And the lady says okay so the full comprehensive earliest I have is August... (it was March at this time). What a joke. I'd love to speak with corporate this is ridiculous. The dentist was rude. The dental chair was situated in a way such that I could hear another patient screaming in pain. The dental hygienist that was speaking to the adjoining patient was so loud that I could not hear the dentist. The dentist stood behind my dental chair such that I could not make eye contact with her. This was all occurring at the same time. Two stars because the front office professional was inviting and was able to get me in for an appointment quickly. Also, the office manager was warm and inviting. This place is the absolute worst! My initial appointment took 4 hours. Then a couple of months later I was having tooth pain and they could not get me in any sooner than a month out for an emergency!!!! I ended up having to go to another dentist who didn't accept my insurance and pay out of pocket for X-rays. When I contacted Aspen dental about the results of my X-rays, they told me that they can take care of the fillings and all I had to do was bring the treatment plan from this other dentist. However, when I went to my appointment which was another month later, they told me I needed another full set of X-rays and their system was down so they have to cancel my appointment. On the phone a month prior, the receptionist at Aspen Dental told me she spoke with the doctor about my situation and I was all I needed was the treatment plan from the other dentist who literally just took a full set of X-rays. They told me they would call me to reschedule a new appointment for my EMERGENCY filling and it's been a week now. It's funny because on the windows of the Hampton location it says "walk ins welcome" and "emergency? we got you". Such lies!!! They don't take walk ins and you can never get an appointment any less than a month for an emergency. This place has the worst customer service I have ever seen in my life. read more

Go anywhere else. This is the absolute worse place to have anything done. My dad has been without teeth for well over a month because this place cannot get the temporary dentures right and then continually cancel his appointments. There is NO care or compassion. The worse part is they gladly took ALL the money for all of this upfront and have NOT met any of the obligations. By the time they actually get their act together, his permanent dentures are "hopefully" going to be in. Very displeased with with my calls going to voicemail and having to wait a month to get work done. Then to go back for a rescan. Then given an appointment with no time on it after a few attempts of hanging up and recall a talk to someone and they tell me they are going to call me back about the appointment that was set for june 12th with no time on it no one calls back I start call then at 4:40pm back to back I go to voicemail till 5pm when they are closed I have a JOB I work too... That I took time off to get this done now I have to rearrange another day of work because of this. WHAT IS GOING ON??? WHY??? The rudest staff I have probably ever encountered in a professional setting. They advertise they accept walk ins for emergency dental. I walked in and was immediately asked did I have an appt and I said no but I saw you take walk ins. Her response was to inform me to try to go to Newport News and that they won't be taking walk ins tomorrow either. Then she said we can get you something for September. No apologies nothing. This review is for the Mercury Blvd location. So then this office has lots of patients and only ONE dentist. The dentist spends her time racing between patients, stopping whatever procedure she may be doing on one patient to start treatment on another patient. Most of your time will be spent sitting in the exam chair waiting for the dentist to come back to you to complete your treatment. I'm sure that this location generates enough revenue to hire more dentists. They are just being greedy and sadly burning out their one lone dentist. There is no way that the one dentist that you have can keep this pace up. read more

This rating is for the office in Newport News. Very poor customer service. I would not recommend aspen dental to anyone. At first they told me that they couldn't take a walk in because they were short staffed but then she told me I could wait. After an hour and a half she told me her computer wasn't working correctly and she cannot get an account set up for me. I would not recommend this office to anyone. read more

I don't like dentist visits but Aspen Dental was an exception. I actually enjoyed my visit with Dr Drake and his team. The place has a very calm, peaceful vibe: all of the staff talked in a very calm and reassuring voice. The staff worked together and communicated very well. They each explained what they were doing and why. I need some extensive dental work due to years of neglect. They put together a care plan to address all my needs, and let me work through it at my own pace. With my dental insurance it ist about 1/4 what I had been expecting. read more

I was told by a scheduler to go to the Hampton office as a walk-in because I have a toothache. When I arrived the receptionist told me they only had one dentist working so they were not doing walk-ins today. I was coming from work and had to go back so I couldn't go 5 miles to their office in a neighboring city ...so I arrived in pain and left in pain. Today is Friday and most dental offices are closed or open half day. Now I have to sit all weekend with a toothache hoping Orajel will help until I can see my regular dentist on Monday. I will never understand office staff who send people from their office in pain. It truly feels as though they do not care. On top of that they only had one patient in the reception area waiting so it wasn't as if they would have had to squeeze me in between 10 or more. Ridiculous! read more

I would never go back to them. This clinic, Hampton, VA just want to do things without your approval and then later charge for it. In addition, appointments changed without notifying me, upsetting. I went to aspen dental for the first time for an exam. I guess the usual hygienist was not in that day so another guy was filling in. He did the most half ass job I have ever seen, my husband that was in the room with me was trying to hold his laugh in. He took out a tool to measure my gums, only measured like 3 and then was like wow you have perfect teeth and told the assistant to put all zeros. He then poked around at my death for another minute and then said wow you must floss every day your teeth are perfect. I asked about any cavities and he said nope your teeth are perfect. Honestly, I used to go to a dentis every six months regularly before I moved. I know what they are supposed to do at an exam. I also know my teeth are not perfect because half of the reason I went in was because my teeth were feeling were feeling a bit sensitive and I suspected a cavity. I expected my dental hygienist to not waste my time because I did take time off from work. I took my husband to the Virginia Beach location and they were very professional however this location was a very different experience. read more
