Fortunately, Everything went a lot smoother than I expected! Dr. Cave is a True Professional as I felt (almost) no Pain and his Surgical Skills were gentle throughout my 1-hour Root Canal Procedure. I definitely Recommend Dr. Cave and his Assistants! Hey, he even laughed at my Corny Jokes! read more

Dr. Potente is absolutely the best!!! He is so kind and gentle. He explains everything as he goes along. Getting a root canal was so quick and easy! I am not a fan of going to the dentist but Dr. Potente helps to ease my anxiety and before you know it I'm done!! read more

Easiest root canal ever! (And I've had plenty of them) I had a consultation with Dr. Cave at C&P Enbdodonticts regarding two failed root canals, including one that was infected. He offered an encouraging prognosis for both teeth, and was able to get started on the infected tooth right away. I was impressed with how easy, painfree, and comfortable the entire process was. He was quiet and focused during the procedure, which suited me just fine. In hindsight, I should have put on some earbuds and zoned out for a little R&R. I am writing this review the day following the procedure, and there is minimal discomfort. A tiny tender spot from the novocaine as expected, but zero stiffness in my jaw because I never felt like my mouth was pushed open beyond what was comfortable. Thank you for that Dr. Cave! The office is modern and pristine, parking is easy, staff is super friendly and informative. As much as I hope I don't need their services in the future, I would highly recommend them to anyone who does. read more

Best Dentist I've been to in 30 years. He makes the procedure easy and relaxing. No surprises he's a professional with a sense of humor. He made my root canal a easy, fast and somewhat pleasant procedure. Very nice guy! And Expert in Root canals. Amazing customer service from his staff and he follows up with you to see how you are feeling the next day. Highly recommend!!! read more

Dr Cave and his staff are awesome. My root canal is tough to work on since it is at an angle. He worked on it very cautiously. He has a great bedside manner. The office is immaculate with very modern technology. Parking is only $4.00 for two hours. Remember to leave your receipt on the dash of your car. I would return to his office in a heartbeat. read more

I was going to give a 1 or 2 star review but to be fair, the root canal Dr. Cave performed was quick and virtually pain free. However, Dr. Cave has an atrocious bed side manner. I don't need hugs and kisses from medical professionals, but I do expect to be treated with respect as a patient who requires medical attention and is paying for services rendered. I am not rude, I do not make scenes and I am definitely not a 'Karen'. In fact, I,myself am in healthcare so I know how to treat a patient with respect and kindness in a professional manner. Now maybe Dr. Cave is just a grumpy old man, he's not friendly, doesn't smile, has a gruff manner. Ok. I can handle all that. But it is never appropriate to be downright rude and make condescending remarks to a patient. This man knew nothing about my history or background or any prior trauma I may have experienced regarding my dental health/care. Thank god the root canal was quick, I only had to endure Dr. Cave for about an hour. read more

Had an appointment with dr Cave and had to leave before the procedure even started. The receptionist in the waiting room came in without a mask and didn't bother to put one one even when she came in and started waking around the office and lobby. This made me extremely uncomfortable, I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she forgot it in her car or something, but nope... 10-15 minutes after she came in, she still didn't bother to find a mask and put it on. At this point I just told her that I'm uncomfortable continuing with my appointment because of her lack of protective gear and I was going to leave. She said she'll note that and that was it. I mean, WTF?!? You work in a medical office in the middle of a raging pandemic and you refuse to wear your protective gear?!? Unacceptable! I went home and my husband ended up calling the office and talking directly with dr. Cave. He addressed the issue and all he got as a response was "What do you want me to do about it. We wear masks when we work on people..." Again, WTF!!! This office is highly unprofessional, disrespectful and I would urge anyone who care about their safety in terms of Covid to avoid going there! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Cave & Potente for a few years now on a few root canals. Hands down one of the best dental experiences I've had. I think they are even better than any general dentist. I wish they did other dental work. They never have trouble getting me numb, they are always pleasant with a good sense of humor. Dr. Cave might seem like a grumpy bear, but he's funny and awesome at what he does. He's been in the business for more than 30+ years. I would be sad if he were to retire. Staff is awesome. Always helpful and friendly. I have nothing more to say than... If you need a Root Canal go see Dr. Cave & Potente read more

Really painless procedure with Dr. Cave! I was nervous and scared and he was gentle and professional. Very clean and beautiful office. I only find it odd that they collect a percentage of payment UP FRONT (so come prepared). They are totally in their right to do that, i am just used to always being billed. With that being said - come ready for the percentage your dental company wont cover (call before so they dont just check you out in the end surprise you with a bill up front). Parking is easy (under building), i was referred by Dr. Russ and was pleased with the procedure. read more

Joseph Cave, DDS - Ugh. Not loving it on this chair but the staff is ultra professional - Endodontists Near Me - San Diego, California

I was at my dentist on Wednesday... They told me I needed a root canal...I'm going on vacation in 4 days....They told me NO PROBLEM and sent me to doctor Cave the very next morning... personally I was dreading it...A root canal is never fun...But wow....Dr Cave was the best..Such a very nice man....His staff are all very friendly.. 1 hour later I'm walking out the door...Went to work 6 hours later..It was like it never happened. No pain....Thank you so much Dr Cave.....You just saved my vacation!!! And my sanity read more

Dr Cave and his staff were awesome. They were very informative about my services and friendly throughout my appointment. Their office is located inside of a building with a lot in the garage. It says to pay for parking but it didn't seem like there was a parking attendant, I paid in case but was told by a staff member it wasn't necessary. I didn't find Dr Cave to be condescending at all, in fact he was very kind and answered all of my questions. On my second visit they were all just as professional and nice. Dr cave made conversation to make the process less nerve wracking as these appointments can be. Overall had a positive experience going in for a re treatment of a root canal. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Cave on November 15th, 2021. I went to see him because my regular dentist is not open on Mondays. I will never go back to this dental office. When I first walked in, there was no one at the desk. I stood there for a while. Finally, the receptionist came around the corner with a parking ticket in her hand. I asked if I needed to pay for parking since there is a sign in the parking garage that says parking is validated by this office. She proceeded to yell at me and say that she had just gotten the ticket and then I needed to go back down there because they were handing out tickets. She never asked me my name and didn't check me in. I went back downstairs to the garage, paid for parking, and then went back upstairs. When I walked back in, the same receptionist was having an argument on the phone with someone regarding the parking garage ticketing problem. I sat down and proceeded to hear a very heated argument that went on for the entire time that I was in the waiting room. Finally, someone from the back came and got me for my appointment. I have previously seen this dentist for a root canal. He did an amazing job and was friendly. But not on this visit. I have never been so insulted, demeaned, and talked down to as I was at this appointment. He had zero bedside manner. I told him I was having pain and he very abruptly said he could either pull the tooth or perform a root canal. I asked if this was the only recourse and he very rudely asked me how long the pain had lasted. I said that the pain had started on Saturday and he very rudely replied that he meant how long did each episode of pain last. I reiterated that I've had continuous pain since Saturday. I asked if he could tell what the problem was and he said that there was no problem with the tooth. I said I would just wait to see my regular dentist. At this point, Dr. Cave walked me out to the receptionist who said she would bill my insurance for the visit. When someone is in pain, there is something wrong with the tooth. If you are a health care provider and you cannot empathize with someone's pain, you need to retire. read more

I, like many people on this god forsaken earth, curse the day we hear words like "extraction" or in my case "root canal". I HATE the dentist with an unholy passion but truth be told, I am far too vain to be walking around with a jacked up smile so I stay on the up and up of my oral hygiene. Who wants to go around with the smile of a hockey player ya know? I was referred to Dr. Cave by my dentist cause I had a complicated root canal they were not ready to even try and touch. THANK GOD cause let me tell you, Dr. Cave is, hands down and without a doubt, the best dental work I have *ever* had. I had a flippin root canal for Christs sake! Shouldn't that have hurt? Shouldn't I have been in awful, mind numbing pain? Wasn't I supposed to be scarred for life? No. No, and No. His staff is awesome, office is pristine, his equipment is state of the art and he's a stealth oral ninja... in and out before you can even notice. (Yes, I am still talking about dental work, get your minds out of the gutters, COCHINOS!) In the day and age where people do nothing but bitch about how their dentists hacked into their skull and left them feeling like the Elephant Man, it was refreshing that a dentist could leave me with such a sense of calm and confidence. So much so that when I needed another root canal, I went back for seconds! woo! And no anxiety about it either cause I had that reassurance that I knew I was getting the best. read more

Here's an exception for needing multiple outstanding visits to rate a 5 star review. Dr. Cave took excellent care of me on a referral for a root canal. While he could have put me through the entire procedure and made several hundred more $s off of me, he discovered my tooth was cracked beyond repair and recommended an extraction instead. Great service from his staff, a very gentle hand and a very up to date clinical setting pushes Dr. Cave to a fifth star. IF YOU GO- while I hope the good Dr. does well in his profession, I hope no one reading this has to go through the root canal/extraction process. I take good care of my teeth, but I'm a grinder. Listen to your dentists and wear night guards if you need them. And if they tell you to replace your silver amalgam fillings, tell them to pound sand. All my dental problems started after I replaced mine. read more

I had to get a ROOT CANAL done. I tried going to Smilecare Dental and they had no bedside manner at all. The receptionist was sweet, but the dentist was not. I called Padre Dental group and they referred me to this endodontist's office to get the procedure done. I'll need to go back Padre Dental to get a crown placed on my tooth. I am a very anxious patient and Dr. Cave was so kind and gentle. His assistant Eva was super sweet as well. If you need to get root canal treatments done, go here!! Btw, Smartcare was going to charge me $700+ for the root canal. After leaving Dr. Cave's office, I ended up paying around $200. :) read more

I wanted a dentist to do a painless professional job for my first (and last?!) root canal. And, I had Dr. Cave do this work today! Its now about 7 hours after the root canal and I am still not in pain. Not sure what that means but the whole procedure was pretty fast (~1 hour) and without pain. I went to work directly afterwards ( with a funny smile cause of the novacaine). The office was clean and I felt like I was with a very experienced root canal specialist. Four stars because I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but if it goes like it has been going today, I'll put it up to five. Free and easy parking. OK, now it's the next day. No pain. Not even an Advil needed! I like this. read more

Although dr. Cave's bedside manner is not the best he gives a solid rootcanal. I had him do two rootcanals which he did very quickly and I subsequently had no issues with. I went for a retreat for a third one but he had some trouble with that one. He numbs you up really well too so no worries about pain. He is very expensive and tends to overcharge though. read more

Dr. Cave was perfection. I had a same day appoint root canal. I got there at 2:45 and left at 3:45. Excellent, painless, relaxing, and I would go back in a heart beat. Thanks Doc!! :) read more

I am spoiled by my regular dentist so I have high expectations, however I had to be referred to this office for a special procedure. When I asked the desk if they obtained the proper authorization from my insurance company I received a "that's your responsibility" in a non customer friendly tone. I told them this is a joint responsibility and if they wanted to get paid and provide a service I suggest they help me obtain it as they have the clinical information needed to justify the procedure. After I was surprised by the $1000 dentist bill with a $350 copay I asked for a payment plan trying to pay $50 a month as money was tight and I also had my regular dentist to pay for this joint issue. They didn't seem to care because I was soon sent to collections. Don't care much for the entitlement attitude at the office, I will not return if referred. read more

I had a really negative experience with this endodontist. I was referred to him by my dentist for a root canal, and he botched it. Apparently he drilled too far - into the bone - and placed the filler material way down into the bone, too. This created a systemic infection in my body which my immune system was not able to deal with. After months - almost a year - of fatigue and other symptoms, and a second root canal to try to fix it (the second endodontist thought the first might not have cleansed the root properly and re-did the root canal) my tooth was extracted finally by my dentist and the symptoms cleared up immediately. My dentist tried to point out his mistake but Dr. Cave disagreed. The ultimate extraction of the tooth proves up who was right and who was mistaken, no? read more

A true professional. The first root canal made me look like a giant sissy! It was easier than having a crown put on! I went back to work that afternoon. The second one.. and hopefully the last one, lol.. There was an infection that I had while coming in. Although it was super painful he eased my pain and handled the job at task in two sessions! .. I would not go to anyone else!! Thank you Dr. Cave! read more

I would like to say the dental work was Great! On the other hand, the receptionist (Specifically the blond one) was unbelievably rude! When I asked questions she rolled her eyes at me and continued to repeat the same thing to me as if I had no education. She did not review my insurance with me and even though I was willing to pay the cost after insurance she still made me feel as if I was trying to haggle them. I left there feeling very sad and made me not want to go back regardless of how good the dental work was/is. read more

I brought my teenage daughter in to see Dr. Cave for a root canal. Never having one myself, I was just as apprehensive as my daughter. Let's face it, no one looks forward to having one. Dr. Cave could see how nervous she was and was quick to comfort/distract her with a few silly jokes. I am impressed that she not only had no discomfort during the entire procedure, she had zero discomfort thereafter. She was back to her sweet, cheery self that night. 5 stars for Dr. Cave's bedside manner and 5 stars for an amazing job. I would definitely refer and recommend Dr. Cave. PS Convenient and free underground parking Appointment was made easily with reception staff read more

Dr. Cave is an excellent Endodontist. I'd never had a root canal done before and he answered all of my questions and made me comfortable. According to my dentist (I saw her for the follow-up permanent filling) he did excellent work on my tooth. Highly recommend. read more

Dr. Cave was awesome!! Fast painless. Belinda, Amy and Eva were also wonderful!

I was scared to death to get a root canal, but Dr. Cave was absolutely wonderful

Well, I paid the $85.00 only as a settlement with, get this, Trojan Collection Services and in lieu of payment, they agreed that I was misrepresented and deleted the reporting to the credit bureaus. So I am thankful for the woman at Trojan who believed in what I was telling her that the representative of Dr. Cave was wrong, but of course, this so-called doctor refused to intervene when I asked for him. BY the way, 6 months have gone by, and I NEVER needed a root canal, but DR. CAVE gave me the option for it. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT A SO-CALLED PROFESSIONAL SAT WITH ME IN HIS CHAIR AND GAVE ME THE OPTION OF A SERIOUS PROCEDURE I DIDN'T EVEN NEED!!!!! read more

I was referred to this Dentist for a root canal by my primary dentist. My regular dentists' secretary verified that Dr Cave's office took my insurance as did I when I was in the office. Yes, it was stated that they took our insurance. I never received a write up of what would be done to my tooth but I sure as heck received their yellow piece of paper explaining that they bill our insurance as a courtesy. Since when did it become a courtesy to bill insurance to ensure your payment? What a crock of crap. The procedure was done (root canal and build up) I paid my high deductible and now I'm being billed for the full amount because they don't take my insurance. It was stated while in the office that they accepted our insurance. This is a very poor business practice and I will not recommend anyone to a Dentist that operates his business in this manner. His office Manager is a rude piece of work and now this bill is in collections. It will stay there too! I have never seen a business run so unprofessional in all my years. I would also like to state that the root canal and build up failed and the tooth had to be extracted. I'd also like to state that the Office Manager would not allow me to leave a message for Dr. Cave. I was going to give him the benefit of doubt and let him know what occurred but I'm fairly confident he knows exactly how his company is run. I have been in contact with my regular dentist and he stated had this occurred in his office he would have wrote off the charges do to his employees error. That was not the case with Dr. Cave. read more

Years ago I was in Ensenada, Baja California at our humble beach house when I started experiencing increasingly severe tooth pain. It got to the point where I really needed some relief. We live in Pasadena, a suburb of LA, so I called our normal dentist who referred me to Dr. Cave in San Diego. Dr. Cave was kind enough to round up his staff on a weekend to meet me on my way back to Pasadena. I was in real discomfort and needed help ASAP. I am sad to say I could not find anyone in the Northern Baja expat community who could refer me to an endodontist in Ensenada or Tijuana with any degree of confidence. But lucky for me Dr. Cave was available, and we made a beeline to his offices once we got across the border. The procedure went well and the root canal repair remains stable more than a decade later. The reason I am writing this review today is because I was cleaning out my office after retiring and found Dr. Cave's business card. Just wanted to say thanks. read more
