We've been taking our cars to Joseph Auto Service for 20+ years. The words honest and mechanic usually do not go together, but Joseph and his son Patrick are the exception. I do not trust anyone else with my car. Any work they do is guaranteed and they won't do work that's unnecessary. When I take my car in, they not only fix it up, "Uncle" Joseph also does a routine check of my car - fluid levels, etc. - because he knows that I'm not car savvy and would not check this for myself. They even provide a car if I have to leave mine a couple days. I remember when I was younger, money was tight and there was not much spare budget for car repairs. Mom's car was having problems, so we took it in for a check. Not only did he not charge us for the check, but he gave us a quick fix, an ETA on car life, and an analysis of whether it was worth it to keep "fixing" the car. Any other mechanic would have just kept gouging us for continued repairs. He was honest enough to tell us that he would fix it if we wanted but it was not worth it and we'd be back in a few months. After the dealership offered to do a diagnostic test for $197 (just the test!) when I took my car for routine maintenance, my dad suggested talking to Mr. Hsiao. And boy, definitely a good decision-- I called Mr. Hsiao about my problem (occasionally my car doesn't start on first try), and he told me to bring it in without an appointment. I met him in person at his desk and he personally walked to my car and used a battery tester to check my car. He told me there were no issues with my battery or alternator, and after asking me some questions, he gave a couple of suggestions on how to start the car if I had issues again but told me not to worry about it. And that's it! Free friendly advice from a friendly mechanic. He seems hard working, reliable, and honest. Been coming to Mr. Hsiao for over a decade. He's always friendly and honest. Got to know Patrick, his son, throughout the years. I usually take my Infiniti to the dealership and the service advisor would give me a laundry list of recommended services. I called in for a last minute oil change, and because the last place I went to have a alignment at told me I had to change the tie rods & recoils springs. Patrick took care of me and had his team check on my car to see if it was actually needed. Carlos, the mechanic working in my car, showed me what the problem was and let me know there was no need to change the parts. Honestly, I am coming back, I liked the service and mainly the honesty. Always a fan of trusty, reliable mom and pop shop mechanics. Joseph Auto appears to specialize in Japanese imports but I've seen them perform maintenance for BMWs and American cars as well. Having personally taken a 2007 Toyota RAV4 and a 2004 Honda Civic for regular maintenance, sometimes bringing our own parts, they've always done a good job. We have used them for brake rotor/pad replacements, transmission or brake fluid changes, valve cover gaskets/seals, and replacement of bumper and side view mirror. Service is solid, they are quick to provide quotes over the phone, pricing is reasonable, and service is generally quick. Appreciate these guys for servicing the Houston area for decades! read more

So naturally Joseph is kind of my default mechanic - since I am about as car-dumb as they come (hello stereotype!) and well, yeah, I trust my dad . . . Vicky J.'s review is pretty typical of dealings with Joseph. He just happens to be an honest car mechanic (I perpetuate stereotypes, he defies them?) - every time he's quoted us on a part - it's been the actual fair market value (or cheaper). He doesn't charge an arm and a leg for labor and his turn around is pretty quick and reasonable. And if he happens to misdiagnose or not fully resolve the car issue in question - he will fully owe up to it and do whatever he can to remedy it without extra charges. I recently totaled my car (not that you care, but it wasn't my fault!) and my insurance was taking forever and day trying to work through my case. I must've stored my car at Joseph's for two weeks and although he was not too pleased about that but he didn't charge me a ridiculous storage fee - just kindly asked me to get a move on . . . The one time I needed to get my car fixed I got a couple of quotes from various body shops and Joseph's auto came to be either comparable or less. I had a hit and run on my fiat abarth and was able to take my car in right after the new year and get it within 5 days. The results turned out beautiful and I'm very happy with his service. I had work done on my in March and was pleased. I took my car back about a week ago to have freon put in my AC. I started hearing a humming noise coming from the right side of my vehicle when driving that sounded like it was coming from the wheel and sometimes when I take my foot off the brake and take off I would feel the wheel wobble. I took my car to the shop on Wed., Oct. 13 and asked to have the wheel bearing check. I heard the owner tell the mechanic what I told him. The owner came back and said all wheel bearings had been checked and were fine and it was my transmission. I took my car to a Ford certified mechanic on today and it was the wheel bearing. I will never patronize this shop again; I'm very disappointed. I give my last experience at this shop 0 stars and only chose 1 star because that's the only way I could submit my review. read more

Came here for the first time thanks to Yelp. I called first to check what his price was on replacing rear breaks and it was amongst the lowest out of the list of shops I dialed. When I drove up, he greeted me immediately. I told him I also thought I needed an alignment due to constant low tire pressure. He confirmed it was only a nail in my tire and fixed it. I have been taking my Honda car to Joseph Auto for the past 9 years. Joseph is a very honest and will exain to you what needs t be replaces or fixed. Also the do not charge to do tests to figure the source of the problem. In the past Joseph Auto was only a repair shop. INow they do body repairs the past 2-3 years, I was a bit skeptical about Joseph Auto doing body repairs. Recently I had a major car accident on my 2015 Honda Civic. So I decided to give Joseph Auto a shot on repair my Honda. Cool thing I love about this place is that they will give you a complete estimate price to fix my 2015 Honda Civic. Joseph also told me detail by detail what needs to be replaced or fixed. I didn't care how long it took them to get my Honda Civic fixed and running right, as long they do a good job. Joseph did offer me a loaner car for me not to miss work, I went to pick my 2015 Honda Civic yesterday, Not only my Honda Civic fixed but they also detailed my car, inside and out. It looked brand new. Joseph also told me the body has a 10 year warranty as in paint wear and tear and the parts have a 1 year warranty. Thanks to Joseph Auto Service, I did not spend an arm and leg to fix my car A/C problem. I have a 2004 TSX, and I swear my car's A/C was possessed. It would randomly stop working, then I would push some buttons on the dashboard, and all the sudden it would start working again for a long period of time. This went on for a couple months, and then finally it started happening very often in the middle of summer. I called some mechanics to see if they could diagnose the problem over the phone and get a rough estimate on how much I was going to have to shell out. Acura told me some retarded quote to just diagnose the problem, so I definitely did not want to go to them. I called up Joseph since a family friend swears by him, and he just told me to bring my car in and he would have a look. When I was on my way to his shop, my AC was of course working fine, but right when I pulled into the shop, it stopped working (go figure!) I was so happy to see it stopped working, so he could properly diagnose the problem and fix it immediately. He literally took a look for 10 minutes, ran some tests, and found the problem (I think it related to some relay thing under the hood). All he did was replace that small part, and I was off on my merry way! The best part was that he only charged me $40 ($15 for the part, $25 for labor). AC went out in my car in the hot Houston summer. I had a long time freon leak and the air also suddenly stopped blowing. 1 hour and $200 later, I left happy. I had much confusion trying to figure out where to park and where the front door to the office was. Once I figured it out, I walked in to 3 gentleman having a conversation. None acknowledged me until they finished talking while I just stood there waiting. I asked how much it costs to swap out brakes. I had the parts. He said $85, $85 for front and rear. He said it would take 2 hours, but they also couldn't do it until 1 because lunch. (It was currently 1130.) I said thank you and left. What a waste of my time. Today, I had my two rears brake pads changed out in about 15 minutes for $45, and that's with me asking questions in between. Not so sure how honest these guys are, but I did not have a good experience. I felt like I was disregarded and generally treated poorly, not just as a customer but as a person. There was absolutely no respect shown to me. I have had others recommend this place because they price reasonably, so I may come back and see if I have a different experience but only if I have a really big issue. read more

What can I say, I trusted Joseph within 10 minutes of meeting him. And I have no reason not to. He's honest and tries to help you the most he can. I brought my car in once and he gave me a fair estimate (other places I called gave me around double, or more than double what Joseph estimated). He agreed to take my car in immediately on a Friday and agreed to get it done by Monday. Sure enough I called on Monday, and my car was ready to be picked up that afternoon. I wished they had called me, but I probably jumped the gun. The car looked good as new, which is amazing since I couldn't open the door before. Came here for alignment and oil change. This shop had a nice waiting area and informative staff. Very quick service and reasonable cost. Most auto shops i've been too have low speed wifi or none. This place has a pretty decent speed to watch netflix or youtube without a lag. Restrooms are clean which is a very rare sight to see at a auto shop. read more

I had an automotive shop in Las Vegas that was perfect to my extremely limited mechanical skill set, but my 2000 Honda Accord had two lights turn on in the same week, so I hunted up an Automotive shop close to my place. Having read all the positive reviews, I chose Joseph Auto Service. Called to get an appointment, and was told to "just bring it down." I did, explained the problems with the check engine light, and the SRS light. Joseph took my keys and I sat down in the reading room/waiting room. Ten minutes later, he returned, explained why the lights were tripped, and that he'd fixed the problem, no charge... I asked, "Did you change the oil, too?" He looked at me, and said, Oh, you want the oil changed?" "Yessir." He took the keys back, asked me for my contact information, and I went back to my book, and some friendly conversation with other patrons. Came here yesterday for my boyfriends car Ac since it wasn't blowing out cool air. Turns out his car had a leak. I went here due to the excellant reviews. I had a battery light blinking and was not sure if it was battery or the alternator or something else. My car was checked and surprise nothing was wrong. I can't believe how honest he was. he did not even charge me to check my car but stated that my car was in excellant shape and not to worry.
