I had beef enchiladas and my husband had pork tamales. We had the food delivered and it came in time and hot. They included a big bag of tortilla chips and two containers of their salsa. Super friendly service! Delicious chips and salsa. You can ask for their hot salsa too - but it's hot! We would dip our chips in our espinaca queso and into the hot salsa. That was on point! HH margaritas were good! Quesadilla was a little under-filled, but good. And the nachos were a B- on the nacho scale... they were a bit soggy (to be expected!), and the individual ingredients were a bit underwhelming, but again, satisfactory. A classic Tex-Max spot in the area that's always a blast to be at. Most of their meals tend to be fairly Americanized, but they are delicious nonetheless. The staff is always incredible and keeps the place so lively. Jose Peppers has tasty meals and a great atmosphere, but don't expect the most authentic Mexican experience you've ever had. They bring out fresh tortilla chips that are way better than most that usually come out at Mexican spots, but the burrito bowl wasn't as exciting as it looked. It's hard to invest too much time into this review. We hadn't been to a Jose Peppers in the past 10 years and now I remember why. The ambiance is as remembered. Typically Mexican restaurant decor. More like a taqueria feel. Our waitress, Kyla did a good job. She was mostly spot in with her service. She could have used some help when she brought the food out. The salsa was watery and lacked flavor. The guacamole and queso were acceptable. The crispy beef tacos were bland as were the flautas. The Corona Shrimp Tacos were simply clumsy. Too much batter and too big for the dish. No balance and sloppy. Our daughter-in-law did enjoy her crab and shrimp platter. Just an okay run of the mill Mexican meal. Too many better places to eat at. We will not be back soon. read more

As a Texan, one of the scariest things imaginable is having friends or family in the Midwest suggest eating dinner at their favorite Tex-Mex place. These places are almost guaranteed to not only be classified as bland, overly cheesy imitations of true quality Tex-Mex. These are almost always happy meals for your Midwest family and friends, and tragic experiences for visiting Texans. But then there's the outlier: Jose Peppers. Their salsa was spicy and flavorful. My "eats jalapeños on everything" native born Texan husband declared it "amazing." Their queso wasn't melted velveeta. It was real cheese. And it has peppers and spinach. It was also amazing. Chips were light, crisp, not overly oily and lightly salted. Addictive. Because we were with family, we ordered two family meals: beef enchiladas and soft tacos. They came with rice and beans. The tacos are more open burritos, because they come on 7 or 8 inch tortillas. The two family meals fed 7 adults, 2 teenagers and 2.5 kids (.5 = a very happy growing 11 month old) with leftovers. I am being perfectly serious when I say if Jose Peppers was in North Texas it might be our favorite Tex-Mex chain too. read more

Better now than any KC Mexican. Truly is. I used to swear by Ponaks but Ponaks slid bad soooo fast. Nothing now on The SW Boulevard compares remotely with Jose Peppers. Chips light and tasty. The salsa a 10 pointer. Margarita awesome. Service very good. Food was over the top great. Screw the BS Mex restaurants on the Boulevard. They need lessons from Jose's !!!! Been to this location on several occasions but this time I did carry out and by the time I got it home the food was cold, they don't keep it warm with heat lamps, just sitting by the window. It was still tasty & the Flautas stayed crispy after I reheated them in the microwave. Next time I'll forgo the refried beans and cilantro rice, they're not bad just plain, and get the waffle fries. Espinaca dip is good reheated so no complaints there. I'll definitely go back if just for the dip. read more

The pollo magnifico periodic Tuesday email lunch special ($4.35) included complimentary thin and tasty tortilla chips, a mild and chunky salsa, a cheese covered chicken-filled burrito, tasty Spanish rice, refried beans, and a small salad. The burrito was filled only with chicken (medium grade), instead of adding rice or beans, which was nice. Everything was pretty mild, but spicy habanero and roasted chili sauces were available at the table to spice things up. The portion sizes were good, except for the small amount of refried beans. The well-staffed service was somewhat cheerful, efficient, and fast. The free chips and salsa were available quickly, and my meal was served in just five minutes. A manager checked in with my table to make sure everything was okay, and the staff worked like a well run machine. I don't usually do corporate style Mexican food but Jose Peppers is an exception to the rule for a couple reasons. Their curbside pickup game is top notch. The staff is always super friendly and efficient. I still have never ate inside but why would I need to when my food gets home and is still steaming hot. I mean the most important part if the food. For a takeout mexican food experience, Jose peppers has worked out the details to make sure the correct food is steaming hot while the chips and tortilla are separated so they do not sog up. I've tried the burritos here but I enjoy the steak fajitas the most. The steak is charred and actually tastes like skirt steak. Most times, you order fajitas and you dont have enough tortillas for the meal. For Jose peppers, You have enough tortillas but you have so much steak left over lol. lIsten, I am not complaining. Overall, for what it is, I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. If you are looking for quick solid mexican/ tex mex food. I think jose peppers will do it for you. read more

This place is a well oiled machine. The food is consistent, and so is service. Managers will always make it right if service or food lacks. Make sure to bring your free queso coupon! The pollo magnifico is really good. Just cheesy and meaty. Nothing healthy about it lol My aunt always gets the tortilla soup, which I would never think to order, but it is actually very good. Jose Peppers in Olathe needs to do some re-training and maybe even gets some new blood in there. When we dine there we usually sit at the bar which seems to be well-attended by a consistent crew of regulars. The bar staff is not friendly and not attentive...except to the regulars. It's disconcerting to know that you are being treated differently. Good bartenders know better. The house margaritas are inconsistent and often short-poured. The wells and calls are also inconsistent. That bar staff needs to be completely and thoroughly retrained by someone from the outside. As with the drinks, the food is inconsistent as well. One time the preparation and quality is very good...the next good at all. We would come much more often if you raised your game even a little bit. If that doesn't happen, after a few more visits we may not come at all. If you're thinking about a renovation any time soon, you should get the bar to of the middle and move it to one side of the building or the other. It's a poor design to have it right in the middle, surrounded by lower tables and booths, and directly in front of the kitchen. The TVs are always messed up are our of synch as well. We used to love José Peppers but their food and service has been rapidly declining. Ordered take out tonight. Salsa spilled everywhere in the bag (not our doing). The orders were incorrect, and the food did not taste good. We called the restaurant to share our concerns and after waiting on hold for ten minutes we were hung up on. The kicker is that after eating half of our meals, my spouse and I spent the next day sick as can be with food poisoning and that was the only meal we shared. Jose Peppers is a staple for me. Not only is the food good, it is *consistently* good. I've never been to Jose Peppers and not thoroughly enjoyed my meal, no matter what I get. The chips are my favorite kind, light and crispy; paired with the espinaca dip it's a dream team. My favorite meals are the tequila lime chicken and mahi tacos. The chicken is always tender and flavorful and the tacos hit the spot every time. The margaritas are fantastic as well. The service is always great, even with being busy all the time. WE WON'T BE BACK. We ordered takeout, as we have done many times in the past. Our order included fajitas and guacamole. When getting home, we realizedthe guacamole and tortillas were not in the bag. We did not want to spend 30 minutes to go back for the tortillas, so we ate without. I contacted the shop later, spoke to a rude manager who stated that it was our fault tortillas and guacamole were not in the bag, because we should have double-checked. No apology, which is rare for service industry, especially when they made the mistake. I kid you not, the guy was blaming me for not checking the bag. Though food is good, the poor attitude of the manager will keep us from going back to this location in the future, so we will have to find another location for Mexican carryout. read more

Not planning to ever go back. Had the worst experience ever... food and service was so slow. Everyone's orders were wrong. Everyone's bills were wrong, and two people never got food PERIOD! Manager's attitude was ridiculous. I never touched my food because I was right next to the couple who never got theirs at all, and I couldn't bring myself to eat in front of them. They tried to bill me and one of the other diners both, for my two margaritas and charging them at a higher rate rather than the house margaritas rate which are what I ordered. I'm glad we caught that additional error. Now that I've read the review from the people that said they were there the night before us, that said they had a roach go across their table, I'm even happier that I didn't eat.
