Terribly managed store. My husband spent hundreds of dollars and the staff could not have been less helpful. He was there for two hours, searching for his own pants and socks and shirts, when he asked to use the bathroom. The answer was No. NO bathroom? He wan't finished shopping and had to go. So he walked outside and peed in the alley. Ha! Thanks Wilmette Joseph A Banks. Also, they crossed out a $25 price on a three pack of socks and rang it up at $34. I guess when they have a sale they increase prices. The Evanston location was SO much better. We are done shopping here. read more

Believe the other reviews, this place is AWFUL! This is one of my top worst customer service experiences ever. We went to make an exchange when we walked in the store only had 1 other person and 4 people working there. We stood around for about 10 minutes waiting for assistance while the staff just walked around the store. They obviously saw us but decided to make us wait. We asked about the exchange and the looked around for a little bit picking out a new sweater. Once we had decided what we were going to exchange we stood by the register waiting about 20 minutes for help, there was one person checking out a customer and the three other employees were just standing and talking. Once we finally got help we were told the manager would have to assist us and were directed to another register. The manager took his sweet time and we waited another 10 minutes while he was talking to another staff member. We were standing about 30 feet in front of his direct line of sight so he clearly saw us waiting. He did apologize for the wait but it did not seem sincere at all. After he rung in our exchange, we owed about 4 cents. He said he would cover that for us since we had to wait.......gee thanks! I would rather have paid the 4 cents than wait 30 minutes to make my exchange! It was more insulting than helpful, 30 minuets of my time is worth much more than 4 cents. The store in the loop is 10x better, the customer service there is great. I will never make the mistake of coming here again. And the loop store apparently gets there stuff in several months before this store. The item we exchanged was purchased from the loop store about 2 months prior, and this store told us they had just got these items in. read more

Recently I tried to place an on-line order, but for whatever reason, it wouldn't take. So I called the Jos. A Bank store in Wilmette and spoke with Xoch, the store manager. She was awesome! She searched until she found the sport coat I wanted and had it shipped to me. It was in my hands in three days... There may be differences in the level of service from one Banks store to the other, but when I am shopping, I'm going to Xoch! Her attention to detail and focus on customer service is hard to come by. read more

This is the second time I have shopped here and been totally ignored. Apparently, they do not really want business. Considering their prices are not cheap, I would expect customer service on pare with their prices. This time my husband and I wandered around attempting to find him clothes. Do not go to this store. While the salesman Sam, was wonderful..from then on it was a disaster. We needed the pants we bought 4 days later for our daughters wedding.. needless to say, they were not ready, but we were called and told they were ready, went to get them and the alterations hadn't been started!, so, we were then told they would be done later in the day. At 5 pm, they called to tell us the seamstress was Ill and "we had better have back up pants" in case she was unable to come in the next day. Why not just be honest to begin with? At 10 am they knew she would not be in, yet they told us they would be ready later in the day! Why call and tell us they were ready when they hadn't been touched? So, we picked up the untouched pants and took them somewhere else to be altered...NEVER GO TO THIS STORE read more

I love my Jos. A. Banks shirts and suits, but this location has the WORST customer service. I went to exchange two shirts and the manager had a less than desirable attitude and demeanor, and would not let me exchange the shirts. When I mentioned that other locations are good about exchanges, he actually said "then take the shirt to that store" with a smirk. Eventually he agreed to the exchange and asked me to go get the right shirts, instead of offering to get them for me. I get better customer service from WALMART. I pay a premium price at Jos. A Banks for outstanding quality and exceptional customer service, but at the Wilmette store the one is tarnishing the other. I get great customer service from the Glenview and downtown locations, but the WILMETTE store will not get my business again. read more

An unmitigated disaster. Like a Monty Python skit about poor customer service, except this wasn't funny. I went in with my son, age 15, who needs a casual summer-weight suit to wear to attend an upcoming family wedding. We went on a Sunday afternoon at about 1:45 PM. The store had MAYBE four people shopping in it. We were there at least 20 minutes before we managed to find a sales associate or have anyone offer to assist us. My son explained to the salesman that he needed to be measured for a suit. Despite the fact that they are in the middle of their large summer sale, the sales associate immediately took my son to a rack of suits that cost - literally - $895, and then asked him, "Are you actually going to be coming in here looking for a suit sometime soon?" So, that stopped me cold. HELLO? We are IN the store, clearly looking for a suit. I explained that while we needed a suit, I was not prepared to spend almost a thousand dollars on one for my son, especially since he is a child, prone to being hard on his clothing, and still growing rapidly. At this point - I kid you not - the sales associate simply walked away. And aside from telling my son that he wears "about a 36 suit" that was it. Obviously, if I wasn't going to spend $895+ on a suit, he had no further use for us. After hunting around on my own, I found a size 36 suit on the sale rack and my son tried it on. It was WAY too small, so I don't know what the salesman could have possibly been thinking. No one else offered to help us/ Finally my kid said, "This is awful. Let's get out of here." The lack of help he received made him feel really bad, actually. Even though I live walking distance from the store, I will never step foot in there again. I cannot remember the last time I experienced such poor customer service. The clothes may be nice enough, but there are plenty of nice clothes in the world - some of which ar even found in stores where the salespeople are helpful and kind. read more

I used to love JOS A BANK for a quick gift for my husband. Unfortunately the last time I was in looking to purchase something for him my experience could have been better. My husband's family owns a retail store locally in Chicago, maybe my expectations are too high. However, I was in there looking for a pair a pants for him, because the pair he was wearing had ripped in the nether regions. The young man who helped me acknowledged me and answered my first question, then the rest was history. I was hoping he would pull some sizes and styles for me to buy so I didn't have to sift through the overwhelmingly amount of merchandise on my own. read more
