My daughter and I love thrifting and we love this store! It's roomy and well organized, with a great selection of clothes and accessories. We enjoyed looking around and appreciated that it wasn't crowded, but people were still socially distancing. We saw a lot of cute things but were hesitant to buy since the dressing rooms are still closed due to Covid. Currently they are offering full refunds within 10 days because of it, with your receipt and the tags still on. So we ended up spending over $100, but got several nice things, including a cute Calvin Klein bag, a Steve Madden Fanny pack and a Herschel backpack (for $22.50!!) There are many creative and cute items. They not all name brand if that matters. Some employees are nice. Check that the store credit is applied during returns, used during purchases, and remember some are damaged. Transactions really vary. I bought an item and told the two upfront that it has to be warm enough next door or I'll be right back. In two mintures, I was cold and back. In the nicest/fake employee said "That looks so cute! Would you like me to clip the tags for you". "No." Then when I came back two minutes later, she told me that, I could not get my money back on my credit card "the system is not set up that way", even though she didn't use the store card when I gave it to her. I will return since the items that are nice and the employees that are sincerely nice make thrifting fun! read more

The girl at the front, with bangs and glasses, was dismissive and rude during our conversation. She said it would take an hour to review my stuff, even though there were only two people ahead of me in line, which felt like she was judging me by how I looked and wanted me to leave immediately(very rushed and ingenuine) . This was followed by a bunch of restrictive reasons convincing I shouldnt sell here. I thought she might just be having a bad day, but she was friendly to other customers and even shortened their wait. It seems she's picky about who she's nice to. read more

Awesome consignment store right off Northwestern campus and the Purple Line at the Davis station. It was easy to browse through the dresses that were sized accordingly. Bought 4 dresses that included an AllSaints satin bodycon and a cocktail Marchesa vintage piece slashed 50% ($24!). I think the branded dresses you find here that are hardly worn or have original tags attached and marked under $30 are complete steals. Coats and jackets looked like one of a kind pieces. Sportswear and jewelry were sadly lacking. Scanned some cute shoulder and mk crossbags, but didn't get a chance to scope their footwear. Dressing rooms are nice and spacious, staff is friendly and not pushy, and clothes for the rack are nicely edited. I would definitely come back and also visit the wicker park locale. read more

Just say "No" when a cashier offers to clip any tags "for your convenience"or since something "looks so good on you". At Crossroads, No tag = no refund. Any employee will explain that Crossroads is only a resale store that cannot guarantee the quality, but the bottom of the receipt print offers store credit for seven days if the item has tags and the original receipt. You should clip the tags when you are sure. Employees should not even ask to clip them. read more

Selling experience: Short wait on a Saturday afternoon, and 90% of items were rejected. I did notice the items in the store were in pristine condition, but as a regular consignment shopper, I personally think that items do not have to be in like new to appeal to people. It defeats the purpose of recycling clothes that still have a lot of wear left! Average payout was $3-4 per item. Shopping experience: Limited selection, half empty racks so it only took about 20 minutes to look through the women's sections in my size. There really isn't enough merchandise to attract frequent returning customers. The other locations in Chicago had a lot more to offer! read more

My sister told me a while back that this place existed. I dont usually visit used clothing stores because they have weird pungent smells that smell like a cross between spoiled apricot jelly and bad BO. However this place does not have that trait and so my first visit was not my last. They have more women's clothes than what is available for men. But hey, life is not perfect. I don't go here all the time maybe just like 3 times a year. I would not buy used mens dress shoes here. For that I go to Nordstrom Rack. Just a fashion tip. Mostly because I like quality in my dress shoes. For those of you averse to buying a used dress shirt just take the plunge and then take it to the cleaners and then pick it up and it looks like new. It's honestly a good store. Good prices and clean. I get welcomed when I come in, & it's a chill atmosphere. I usually go in once every 3 weeks so they're pretty consistent. The only thing is today I went and a worker said if I'm gonna resell the stuff I'm buying they have to limit what I'm gonna buy. I've never gotten this comment from any thrift store so I don't really even know if they actually do this. Also it's not really any of their business what I'm gonna do with what I buy. read more

More of a 3.5. I've found a lot of good deals here with expensive brands but I'll also come across stuff from cheap brands like Shien going for $15. It's near impossible to find anything under $15 even if it's cheap material or slightly damaged. As long as you're careful you can find some really great steals. I was so excited about getting rid of my clothes that were too big for me. I knew all my items were in great if not excellent condition. We trudge up to Evanston and let Megan price the clothing. After going through my bag of clothes she says..your clothes are awesome and in great condition however we don't take plus size clothing. Are you serious? Yes we dint have a market for it. You could say I give them two stars because I'm bitter that they only gave me $15 for three pairs of shoes I wore once, the total cost of the three being around $200. That's just stupid! Really my rating is because the cashier could not have been nastier, and for no reason. Her behavior was even more nasty when I considered it in contrast to the buyer's behavior, which was nothing but friendly and accommodating. The cashier, on the other hand, seemed bored and disinterested overall during my transaction. Not that I really care about that. I don't expect her to fall all over herself and act excited to see me. She didn't even have to make eye contact with me when she smashed my money into my hand and glumly thanked me. It's cool, I don't like her very much, either, so we're square. It was her crappy attitude toward another customer that made me feel like I should have taken my lot elsewhere. A cashier at the other register walked away without notice, leaving a girl stranded at the front of a line that was swiftly moving over to the other cashier, leaving her at the back of the new line. She politely leaned over a bit and asked the girl who rang me up "Can I just buy these things real quick?" Without even looking up from the piece of paper she was scribbling something on, the cashier responded, "yesssss just a MINUTE. We're GOING as FAST as we CAN." Wow. Yeah, I bet it's real stressful up in the Crossroads on a sunny Wednesday afternoon with five people in your store. I bet it's a struggle just to keep your fake glasses straight with all these PEOPLE trying to pay for things. Don't you just hate customers?! I can just see this girl going home and slugging a PBR tallboy whilst telling her roommates how much responsibility she has at the Crossroads Trading Co. and how hard it is to deal, man. People expect you to like, not be an asshole and stuff. Which is hard to do when your gigantic hair bow is cutting off the circulation to your medulla oblongata. read more

Great (pretty much only) option for the Evanston neighborhood, but doesn't compare to the stores in Wicker Park. Echoing every other reviewer, don't sell here. They won't give you any money near what it's worth. In addition, I don't think they take Abercrombie/Hollister clothes, as I had a few new ones I wanted to sell, and they were from the current season. The clothes are sorted by type (dresses, tops, pants, jeans) and then by color (except for jeans, which is by size). It's actually pretty hard to peruse the racks, and just browse, but if you already have an item that you're looking for in mind, this is a great place to find it. However, the sales here are just not comparable to similar stores in Chicago, while there are items mark 50% off, it's not really worth it even with the price. When I visited Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads in Wicker Park, I was surprised at the variety available in the 50% off sale. It'd be great to have that option in Evanston. read more

I have sold a few things here before, and was pleased with the buy rate they gave me before. So I figured I'd go back and try and get some extra cash, especially in these economic times, a little bit can go a long way in the fashion world. I brought in 2 brand new (tags sill on them) Issac Mizrahi dresses that were $49.99 a piece. I also had a pair of almost brand new (only worn twice) black platform cork heels. She said she would look over them, and call my name when she was done. She told me that she could give me $12.60 for cash and $18.60 in trade. I was floored!! I was expecting more than that. Granted, not full price, or even 1/3, but less than half?? For brand new spring dresses, that happen to be very much in style right now!! I asked her if I could take them back and she already had them priced and ready to sell. I was slightly irritated, but didn't want to cause a scene. So I took my $12.60. I went next door and bought a soup and salad from Cosi, which cost me $7.42. read more

Agree with many other commenters, but I wanted to post a huge concern as well. Crossroads switched from their paper receipts that would show how much credit you have to plastic cards that hold your store credit on them sometime in the last eighteen months. I thought this was great and made sense. But I used my card one time, and the woman said there was nothing left on it and threw it away. I thought I had another $20 on it, but I shrugged, paid the few bucks I owed, and thought nothing of it. Then I sold a bunch of stuff (and got way too little for it), and I had $100 on my card in credit. When I went to use it several days later, I only spent $20 and the woman said that there was nothing left on it and literally tossed it in front of me. I told her no, there was at least $80 on it. She said that I owed a few dollars. Luckily, the nice young blonde man stepped in and explained to her the customer will always have to pay the tax separately (you cannot use store credit for it), so a sales transaction shows that the person owes money. But that doesn't mean that the card is empty. The saleswoman shrugged it off, but I was upset since I almost lost $80 because of her lack of knowledge, and I realize that I lost $20 before for the same reason. I think this store needs to retrain its own employees, not just about their own credit system, but how not to appear nonchalant when they literally throw away your money. read more

I would say that 75% of my clothes are from consignment stores. I am a consignment store pro, and this is damn good. It's laid out cleanly, and comfortable to shop in. The dressing room "guards" do not care if I take in 25 items (which I do). I HATE those "guards" that only let you take in 5, so you have to come out a million times in different outfits to get the rest, when you want to just come out naked.....So, this place is cool. The prices are decent. Some very very good deals, and some not so great deals. The half price rack is great. I wish this one were near me. I like Crossroads Trading Co. in the Bucktown/Wicker park location (I've sold a few pieces from my closet to them) but this location has horrible customer service. I walked in, no hello, how are you? Nothing. Browsed around. Some tags said half off so when I spotted a dress I waited for 10 min in front of two customer service reps to acknowledge me. Finally, she noticed me and I asked her was this is the actual price ($42.50) for this dress since some items were half off in the store and if the dress was part of the sale. Blond, short curly hair (thin) employee lady scoffed, "Yes that's the price. It's a Nanette Lepore." Of course, I knew it was a Nanette Lepore but it was out of my budget. Prices are a bit steep for a consignment shop. Employees are not very welcoming/friendly/attentive here which made my shopping experience unpleasant. Walked out with nothing. Management should reconsider how their employees deliver customer service to shoppers. read more

Crossroads is always going to be a higher-end thrift store. Which means that while you're going to find some really great clothes and good prices you're also going to spend a lot of time hunting through racks of sh*t you think is ugly, too small, too big, or what-have-you. But you're probably going to find something great. Or maybe not. Sometimes I get frustrated with the quality of some stuff (why are you buying Target clothes, Crossroads?) and sometimes with the prices (if a sweater has pilling then it's not worth 20 bucks. I don't care who it's by). The organization of shoes is absolutely baffling (can we organize by size, PLEASE?). And half the time when you want a dressing room the whole staff is by the register up front. And then when you want to check out they're all back by the dressing room. But the staff is always nice and you never feel like you're putting anyone out when you need a room/to check out (and we all know that can be an issue in retail). read more

I stumbled across this place one day and was surprised by how much I liked it. Being so near Northwestern (and I went there, so I say this with love) I expected this to be all Hollister, J Crew, Abercrombie, etc. It's not though, there's a ton of selection for everyone from teenagers to professionals. Be prepared to dig, there's a lot of stuff here - shirts are pretty well organized by color and they have tons and tons and tons. Prices are pretty good and frequently you find items are marked down by 50%. Though I did find my tragic great white whale story here...I walked in one day and they had gorgeous, black Christian Louboutin pumps for $60 that sadly were far far too big for me. Sigh. If anyone plans to drop their size 8 Louboutins off there, let me know first, okay? read more

Great place, I like it a lot! Tons of clothes to look through. I love that it's mostly name brand clothing. Sometimes you luck out, sometimes you don't. I recently went and acquired a Primp zip-hoodie ($12, normally $154) and a Primp thermal ($7.25, on sale). They also had a Christian Audigier shirt (too small for me), quite a few Juicy Couture items, Seven For All Mankind, and more. Everything is well-organized, by color, which I like because I do that for my own closet :) Most stores like this can be a hit-or-miss but this one is always a must when I am in the area. Don't bank on the idea that you'll get a ton of cash for selling your old clothes though. It's frustrating to find out your $60-whatever will only be bought by them for $8 and sold for $15, but that's just the way it is with stores of this variety. read more

I didn't expect to receive anything near what I paid for ($120) but these go for about $90 at the bare minimum. Well Crossroads offered me $16 & was going to sell them for $24. It's not the cheapest thrift store out there, but it's pretty inexpensive. There is a vast selection, from shirts to dresses to shoes to tees to menswear to [not cute] purses. Yes, you do have to check your shopping bags unless you want to sneakily drag them through the store, which we had started doing, but then realized it was a hassle when sifting through all of the racks. Clothes are well-organized - both by color and by size. There is a huge selection of brands (impressive, really) - Banana Republic, Betsey Johnson, BCBG, ella moss, among others. I got an adorable dress by Velvet for $22. Totally psyched! read more

They have a ton of stuff here, but it's often like hunting for a needle in a haystack (or so I suppose, never having done the latter). I have the most success at Crossroads when I'm shopping for fun. It's nothing but frustrating to come here when I'm looking for something specific, like a pair of jeans or a certain kind of top. It's just a little too chaotic and obviously they can't control their inventory real well. I agree with other reviewers about the shoes. The way they're laid out is just baffling. I have had only one experience trying to sell old clothes here - seems like you need to either be selling things you bought three days ago (who does that?) or you need to show up on the magic day the one super lenient buyer is working. Crossroads is a good place to find great discounts on gently used clothing. I love checking out used and consignment shops to find deals on designer denim since you can find them for $20 to $30 a pair as opposed to $150+ at the regular stores. The styles may be a tad bit outdated, but stores like Crossroads do their best to make sure the items they take in fit the current trends. At times, I do wonder if their staff can spot a fake since fakes are out on the market. Also, some fakes are made really well so it's harder to tell the difference. But, I digress... It was crowded when I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. The aisles are pretty narrow and tight so it makes it really hard to browse at the selection if you are holding a lot of clothes or have a large bag. Also, they have a large inventory, which means a lot of digging and hunting. I would allocate at least an hour to peruse the inventory. Be sure to look for the tags marked "additional 50% off" for even more savings. Service wise, I feel like the store employees are mainly there to put away clothes and let you into the fitting room and not to really help you shop, which is fine. I'm sure they'd help if you did have questions, but I didn't ask any. I bought a pair of Rock and Republic jeans, which retail for $168 for under $30. I do admit, I questioned that they were real and spent some time online searching. Then, I just gave up on it, ripped the tags off and rocked them. At that point, it wasn't worth trying to take them back. Oh, you have to do that within 7 days and you get a store credit not your money back. So, make sure you really love it before you buy it! I also picked up a white J. Crew tank to put under my bright cardigans and a Limited black tweed mini skirt for the fall. Yes, they are mainstream brands, but they were inexpensive and I loved them so I snapped them up. Overall, worth peeking in if you are in the area and in the mood to hunt around for a good deal, but due to the return policy, make sure you really like it before you buy it! read more

Don't sell things here - it's just an upsetting experience overall, and you definitely don't get anything near what your items are worth. (I would give their selling experience 1 star, but since I shop a lot more than I sell, I weighted it a little more.) I do like browsing here a lot, though. There are tags throughout the store that are marked at 50% off - I'm definitely the kind of person who exclusively buys sale items, even at thrift stores. If you're in the market for jeans, this is definitely the place to go - they sell 7 for all Mankind, Hudson, Citizens of Humanity jeans mixed in with the rest for $10-20. I am a little confused about the shoes - there is a shoe section, but the rest of the shoes are spread out throughout the store, and it can be a little confusing. Every time I think that I've finally looked at all the shoes, there seems to be just one more row of them. They don't seem to be sorted in any way (except for the tall boots, which are hung in their own section) - it would be nice if they were sorted by size. Overall, I don't really understand their pricing systems. They have some designer things (although I wouldn't go for their designer bags, there are some really obviously fake ones that they price as though they were real mixed in, which makes me wonder whether all of them are fake) right next to the Forever 21 items, and priced about the same. read more

I got only $5.00 for bringing in 46 pieces of clothing. This consignment shop has too high expectations. NOT WORTH IT. Staff had a bad attitude and clothes on racks were messy. 95% of my items were not accepted. They only accept clothes that are trendy and flawless. Even if they are in good condition, they won't accept it if it's not trendy. Might as well donate all your clothes to goodwill instead of spending time in this store. read more
