Initially happy with care provided by Kae dmd but my experience echoed Patrick's ( see below ) Saw Kae during height of COVID , let him know that I was feeling uncomfortable and had 2 questions on steps they were taking to mitigate transmission. His response was to use bullying and intimidation! I witnessed a very unprofessional side of him that I experienced as verbal and psychologically abusive behavior. You *REALLY* don't want to get involved with these folks. On the one hand, Dr Kae is very professional and competent. He's a smart guy. But if you let slip any hint at all that there is room for improvement (or in my case, that you prefer a different hygienist), expect to be kicked off their patient list. (No, I'm not kidding.) I used Dr. Kae's services for YEARS with no problems. I paid every single bill punctually and was on time to every appointment. Then on my last visit, the new hygienist went borderline ballistic over what should have been a complete nonissue. (She was probably over-stressed. But still, it was nothing short of bizarre.) On the patient feedback form, I gently indicated that I wanted a different hygienist for my next visit. This should NOT have been a big deal. Less than a week later, I received a letter from their office telling me that I was no longer their patient. (!!!!) Which, quite frankly, is insane. If you read through his other reviews on here, you'll see that this sort of behavior is not an anomaly. It would seem that the man's ego can't tolerate the perception that his service is anything less than perfection itself. (Perhaps this attitude explains the high turnover rate among his employees.) STAY. AWAY. Seriously. You might last a while if you can act sufficiently submissive and stay quiet, no matter what happens. But in the end, it's not worth it. read more

I'm updating my review as I've interacted with the staff on a few more occasions and have had another appointment. From the front desk to the hygienist to the dental assistant and Dr. Kae himself, everyone is a top professional with kindness, timeliness and even humor. I kid around with my dentist - how often do you hear that? For someone who has PTSD - quite skittish in circumstances of any perceived danger - I am right at home at Dr. Kae's dental chair. I had a cavity taken care of from start to finish plus payment and scheduling of my next appointment, all done in 1 hour! This was the shortest visit to the dentist I've had in the few decades I've been going. Dr. Kae was happy to accommodate my request for a little seat arrangement. He told me he makes adjustments for any patients and even does his work standing if the patient has vertigo or other issues. He also uses a dam so I didn't taste all the junk he drilled out of the cavity. These reasons and more show he really cares about his patients. I've been a patient for 10+ years. When Dr. Kae dropped my dental plan, I decided to stick with him, I'll pay more for dental care. When Dr. Kae asked again to pay more, as he drops my current dental plan, ok, I'll pay more, again. When Dr. Kae accidentally nicked my tongue during a procedure (where I have lost a fair amount of ability to taste), no problem, staying with Dr. Kae. But when extraordinary circumstances occur where I'll be late/miss an appointment and the receptionist tells me I will have to pay a reschedule FEE, I'm gone. Okay you never know the value of an incredibly dentist and their staff until you have an emergency.... which is what happened to me! Called Dr. Kae on a Saturday for an emergency and he got back to me within THE HOUR. Talked me through what was happening, reassured me I'd be fine to see him within the week and got me an antibiotic on a Saturday night for the infection and pain I was experiencing. Called his office Monday, asked to see him the following Monday when my infection cleared and they simply said "yep! See you then" looked up my insurance and we're fabulous. Seriously when they accept new patients you need to come here. His patient care and lovely staff is unmatched. read more

They have too many clients. I'm and sick and had to cancel my appt for tomorrow as I have a terrible sinus infection and started antibiotics today. Next appointment is April???! It's Nov 16......Who the hell knows their schedule 4 months out!!! Insane! The receptionist was calm and nice and offered to transfer my dental records for me? I bring my entire family to Dr Kae. What a huge pain!! When I called back and begged she offered me Dec 29th at 7am. We are our of town. Horrible, we've been a good clients (All 4 of us). He's done work on a molar I cracked that needs to be finished and they can see me for the implant I need before the end of the year ($$$$) but yet they can't seem to find time for the teeth cleaning I really need. If you don't know what your schedule is going to be in 4.5 months (literally) avoid like the plague. Dental work is good what what good is that when they have and take on too many clients. read more

My first visit/experience was fine. But after my 2nd and LAST visit/experience I had some 20/20 hindsight. Looking back, I realized that none of the people working there smile. I think I know why. This Dentist is a bully. Period. If you want an explanation for why you need something done (and therefore pay for it), during a routine exam/cleaning forget it. He apparently doesn't owe you an explanation. In my experience he hid behind the chair behind me so I could not see him (coward) and told me I had no choice in the matter. Guess what? I DO have a choice and I choose to post this experience and find a new Dentist who cares about me and not just the total at the bottom of the bill. read more

Dr. Kae is our family dentist and we all go to the same dental hygienist each time we visit, enjoying her soft touch with the scraping tools:) Dr. Kae is very personable and makes a point to meet up with each patient where you could chat about kids and life as well as teeth. Dr. Kae is a good dentist... I guess... I am a bit angry with him though. He de-facto dropped me as a patient a few years back by deciding to no longer accept my insurance! I am a public educator, so I'm sorry if I cannot have the gold-plated corporate insurance policy he prefers. Very lame. However, despite my overall anger at this dental practice, I still have no choice but to leave an overall positive review. Not because of Dr. Richy-Rich, but because of Lynn, the most incredible dental hygienist I've ever encountered. Lynn is a magician. Experiencing her work is similar to watching a master violinist perform. Her ability to clean teeth is absolutely effortless, moving tools and floss around and between teeth with fluidity, and without applying any unnecessary pressure to the gums. I've had lots of good hygienists in my life, but Lynn is completely off the charts. They should rename the practice after her. Dr. Kae is just another "good" dentist, and apparently not one with much sympathy for the working class. read more

I am hesitant to write a poor review for Dr. Kae's office because my experience with Dr. Kae and the dental hygienists was actually very positive, and I would recommend them, but his receptionist unfortunately soured the entire experience for me. After going to my initial appointment I scheduled a second appointment for two fillings, and a cleaning. I wrote down in my calendar that the appointment was at 9:30 AM. About a week before my appointment I got a letter in the mail saying that Dr. Kae would no longer be a preferred provider as of a certain date. (that was 2 weeks after my schedule appointment time) So the day before the appointment I got a reminder call for my appointment the following day. I wasn't able to answer the phone, and so the woman that called me left me a voice mail to remind me about my appointment at 9:30 the following morning. I then immediately called back to ask about Dr. Kae no longer being a preferred provider, and how that would affect me. I spoke with Lisa the receptionist, and she told me that everything would still be fine, but right after we got off the phone she said, "Ok I will see you at 10 AM" I then replied that I wrote down the appointment was at 9:30 and that I was pretty sure the voice mail I just got said 9:30 as well. She then very rudely (in my opinion) said that it was definitely at 10, and they don't even schedule appointments on the half hours, and so it was impossible that my appointment was at 9:30, and that she would see me at 10 the following morning. Well after we got off the phone, I listed to the voice mail again, and she definitely said the appointment was at 9:30, and then I dug through my wallet to find my appointment card and it also said 9:30. So I called the dentist's office right back, and was told that Lisa was talking to a patient, and I could leave her a voice mail and she would call me right back. So I left her a voice mail saying that I had what I wrote down in my calendar, the appointment card, and the voice mail that all said the appointment was at 9:30, and just asked that she would again verify that the appointment was actually at 10 AM. Well she never called me back, and so since she was so confident, and insisted there was literally no way I could have a 9:30 appointment, I assumed she must be right, and my appointment was at 10. So I set my alarm to be able to get there at 10, but when I woke up I had a voice mail from her that she left at 8 AM saying that "The appointment is at 9:30" No where in the message did she apologize whatsoever for insisting adamantly that it was at 10 am, or offer any explanation why did not call me back the day before after I left her a voice mail. I then hurried as fast as I could, and was able to get to Dr. Kae's office by 9:45, but I was told I was too late, and I wouldn't be able to get the fillings. I explained how Lisa had insisted that my appointment was at 10, and I easily could have been there on time if she would not have done that. Apparently though there was no way that I could get in there for the fillings. The lady I talked to told me that Lisa would call me that day to schedule a new appointment so I could get the fillings done. Well it's been a couple of days, and Lisa has not called me at all. I had to miss half a day or work to go to this appointment, and now I will need to find an all new dentist because Dr. Kae is no longer a preferred provider for my insurance. I know this is very long, but I feel that I was wronged by Lisa, and then she made absolutely no effort to apologize or make it right in anyway, and then rubbed salt in the wound by never calling me to try to get me in as soon as possible. read more

A quick followup for those who may be interested. My review was apparently bothersome to Dr. Kae's office manager as she decided to post my personal info as well as some insults here. Fortunately, Yelp has a policy against that, as too would the state medical board I imagine what with doctor/patient confidentiality laws and all. When I brought this breach of confidentiality to Dr. Kae's attention, he didn't seem to care and wiped his hands clean of the matter. Again, another reason we're happy to have found a new dentist. read more

OK, it's hard to say that you "love" your dentist. Unless you're going in for a cleaning, something is wrong, and it likely hurts. That said, Dr. Kae and his assistant Tiffany are the greatest dental team I've encountered. They both really take the time to listen to what you're saying and respond appropriately. I've been in for everything from cleanings (for the past six years) to a crown and a night guard, and they were fantastic. If you can't pay all your charges at once, they let you pay in installments. If you can pay it all at once in cash, you get a discount. If you choose Dr. Kae, you'll be in good hands. read more

My dentist changed my life. I'm not fearful of the dentist, or anything like that, I just didn't put it on my priority list. After 10 years of not making the time (shame on me), I finally went... thanks to those dorky dentist commercials telling me that one visit gets me back on track. Well my friends, it's true. After one visit to Dr. Kae's office - X-rays, a deep cleaning and a cavity filled (not all on that same visit) - my habits are back on track. I'm a tooth brushin', mouthwash swishing, flossin' fool - showing plaque who's boss. Not only did they motivate me to get back on track - through education and not fear - but their level of service is impeccable. I had a total of 4 visits and noticed the care at which they treat their clients. 1. Very easy scheduling - they scheduled my next appointments while I was still in the dentist's office and didn't have to wait around at the front desk to get that accomplished (they obviously embrace technology and I really appreciate that) 2. Friendly Reminder calls 3. Dealing with the insurance company - checking on my coverage and letting me know what I qualify for and exactly what I'll have to pay out of pocket. 4. Sending me home with goodies :-) 5. TEACHING ME - the best things that I can do about my personal situation - and why I have the problems I have - and giving me a refresher on the best flossing and brushing technique without making me feel stupid. 6. Great atmosphere - friendly staff with a smile (naturally), good music, great view of the courtyard from each chair. This list goes on. I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment in March. And I gotta give a shout out to the rest of the Yelpers on here who wrote stellar reviews for Dr. Kae and his team. Dr. Kae is awesome! I'm the type of person who has always HATED going to the dentist and now, for the first time in my life, I actually look forward to my 6-month cleanings. My whole family highly recommends Dr. Kae (even my mom, who needs a Valium just to get through a regular teeth cleaning. The fact that she speaks so highly of him means a lot!) The whole staff is friendly, honest, gentle and easygoing. Even though Dr. Kae isn't 100% covered under my dental insurance anymore, I'm going to stick with him and pay the extra money because I think he's worth it. (It's also important to me that, unlike the other places I've been to in the past, I've never had the impression that Dr. Kae was just trying to sell me stuff or talk me into expensive, unnecessary procedures.) As far as dentists go, Dr. Kae is one of the best and nicest ones I've been to. He tells it like it is without making you feel crappy about your teeth or your atrocious flossing habits, as so many dentists like to do. He doesn't sell you stuff you don't need, which I appreciate. (I think I said this also in my car repair review....hmmmm.....) There are three hygienists who do the cleanings. I had Donna, who was thorough without hurting too much. As she said, "Contrary to popular belief, we don't try to specialize in torture." There is a wait to get in for the first time, as others have noted, but that's the price you pay for being popular! Also, they are going to be moving to a new location in the Junction shortly (they are now located between the Alaska Junction and Admiral Junctions) and have more space/chairs so that getting in for an appointment won't be as much of a challenge. Yay! p.s. Minus one star for the confusingness that is the office manager. While she is nice enough, she tried to reschedule my appointment to 10 a.m. by accidentally calling my husband's cell phone multiple times instead of mine. Needless to say, I didn't get the message until after 10 a.m. She also called the wrong number on my insurance card and told me I didn't have a dental plan. Oy. read more

I've been with Dr. Kae for six years and I can't imagine myself seeing any other dentist. I've had a wisdom tooth extraction and deep cleaning. Neither are fun experiences but with Dr. Kae and his staff on the case, I've been in excellent hands. Dr. Kae never lectures or makes you feel guilty for your bad habits or having not gone to a dentist in a long time. Instead, he's only encouraging & comforting in his explanations, recommendations, and treatment. This is a very welcome approach in a situation which most find to be nerve racking. Dr. Kae makes you feel like he truly does care for you... because he does! I've provided references to four of my closest friends to go to Dr. Kae. After my last dentist and their consistently adding fees to my already quotes estimates and the dental hygenist who made me scream and cry with my last cleaning... did not know that actually happened. I switched to Dr. Kae's office this week. I was nervous and wow was it honestly the best dental visit I had. First off Dr. Kae saw my right when I came in, prompt, kind and was optimistic. I had adult braces few years ago and I have bad gum recession on my back teeth. He was nice and did not scare me like my previous dentist did. Then my cleaning... best ever!!! Lynn was her name, she was so gentle and informative, nice and fast. Most of the time even if the cleaning doesnt hurt my mouth will hurt the rest of the day and next. Lynn was so gentle, no pain, no white knuckling. She also recommended some calcium paste to add to my dental routine. Even offered for me to bring in my night-guard to have cleaned there! So happy I switched and will ALWAYS ask for Lynn for my cleaning. Best dental cleaning ever! Thank you! read more

I was referred to Dr. Kae by a friend, and after a horrendous time at my last dentist (which was the reason I had to see Dr. Kae), he undid my fear and loathing of dentists. He basically had to reconstruct the right side of my mouth but I never felt a thing (unlike my last experience where, with tears streaming down my face the dentist asked "does it hurt?" "Uh HUH" I mumbled. "I'm sorry" he said and kept drilling...I shiver to think about it) He's friendly and the place doesn't have a creepy dentist feel to it. So dentists in Seattle are apparently impossible to make appointments with. I called this dental office trying to find an appointment and because it was going to be nearly 2 months out before I could find an appointment on a Friday, I looked elsewhere. Fortunately, the receptionist offered to let me know if anyone cancelled and as luck would have it, someone did and they gave me a call back. I was able to see them in the following week and quickly book a follow up appointment to get two cavities filled. What I appreciate most about any medical professional is the ability to come in for my appointment and not be left waiting forever to see them. Coming to Kae Dental, I didn't have to spend time wondering when I was going to see anyone. I waited for a few minutes and was quickly brought back. The staff here is friendly and professional, the space is in a new building, and the equipment is new. Overall, I'm happy they're within walking distance from where I live so I feel like I don't have to search for a different dentist. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kae for 15 years. He is an outstanding dentist, and his staff are friendly and professional. Today he repaired a chip on my front tooth with a bonding agent and I cannot even tell where he made the repair, because the job is so perfect. Lisa at the front desk is fabulous, Melanie was super gentle and educated me without scolding me, which was great. Not having gone to the dentist for over 3 years, I was VERY nervous and everyone was great about making me feel comfortable. Dr. Kae was quick to see me and very thorough. Missed my initial appointment with Dr. Kae due to the birth of my first child and my wife having surgery. I didn't have a chance to cancel or reschedule in time. I called today to set up an appointment. The receptionist said, "I am sure that was a fantastic event; however regardless of your circumstances Dr. Kae would not like to have a relationship with someone who misses the initial appointment." Dr. Kae is an excellent dentist. He is gentle and communicates very well. His staff is also very capable and friendly.

I had read previous reviews about the incompetencies of Dr. Kae's office staff, but decided to give his clinic a chance in the case that previous reviews were flukes/misunderstandings. I scheduled two new patient appointments for myself and my child weeks in advance to ensure that we could be seen at the same time before I had to leave for work. I spoke to a gal there in late August or early September and scheduled two 10:15 am appointments for late September and even received a confirmation call the day before my appointment. Come day of appointment, my child and I arrived 10 minutes early and checked into our appointments. 10:20 am came around and the hygienist walked out and said to me, "You know your appointment is a 12:15 and 12:45." I told her that's impossible as I scheduled my appointments for 10:15 so that I could be seen before work, and she shrugged and walked away to let me work it out with the receptionist. The the receptionist peeked her head around her desk and told me my appointments were scheduled for 11:15 and 11:45, at which I reiterated that what she had just uttered was impossible as I scheduled my appointments to coordinate with my work schedule. As you can see, neither the hygienist nor the receptionist were able to keep their stories straight. I received a confirmation call the day before for a 10:15 am appointment, no mention of a later appointment time when I checked in, told by the hygienist that my appointments were for 12:15/12:45, then told by the receptionist that my appointments were scheduled for 11:15/11:45. It is unfortunate that this happened as I was looking forward to establishing care at Dr. Kae's clinic. The facility was clean, nicely decorated, close to home, the people I spoke to on the phone seemed friendly, and I wanted to support a local business; however, no one accepted fault or offered a reconciliation for their incompetency in coordinating Dr. Kae's schedule and my time as a new patient. Therefore, I asked for my registrations back and told them I would be taking my business elsewhere. I cannot speak of Dr. Kae's work or competency as I was not under his care. I hope he is aware that his office staff is driving away new business. I will not recommend his clinic to anyone because of my poor experience with Dr. Kae's staff. read more

I have been going to Dr. Kae for nearly three years now, having gotten a deep cleaning, regular cleanings and most recently a crown. Turns out a couldn't have found a better recommendation! I've so far seem him several times. I have a huge fear of dentists and he's honestly the first dentist who sat down with me to talk about my concerns. He's been gentle and mellow, and I never feel like he's rushing. I have to point out first that Dr. Kae is a great dentist and we have never had issues with him. But the good experiences were made terrible because of the office manager. My mother had a set of appointments, but she forgot about her first one. Her only son, my brother, passed away not too long ago, which has been giving her anxiety attacks and a couple of trips to the ER. It has been a tough time for us. So the lady in the front calls me to say how I missed the appointment and they are charging me a $100 fee. I explain that I am speaking for my mother, since she does not speak english, but continues to berate me for "wasting their time." I explain my mom's current situation, but this woman showed absolutely no sympathy, no compassion, and was incredibly rude. Along with this, I tell her that we will keep the next appointment, which was that next day. Next day comes, and it turns out that when my husband takes my mom to her appointment, that woman cancelled it. Even though I specifically said not to. So here we are now with a $100 fine, no time with the dentist, and fuming from the experience. I never found her particularly nice, but this really did me in. I hope that the practice finds someone else to work out front. When the person your patients have their very first and last connections with is terrible with the public, there's a problem. I found Dr. Kae via Yelp, as I was passing through town and needed a last-minute dental appointment. I found him to be extremely friendly, competent, and thorough. I'm apprehensive about going to the dentist. It just is not fun for me. Needless to say, this was one of the best dental visits that I experienced. I came to see Dr Kae after another dentist that I had seen left my teeth so sensitive that I could not even brush my teeth. His office is in a small, non-descript building that does not look like much from the outside. Inside, it is clean, neat, and is a relaxing atmosphere. Dr Kae's assistant is very friendly and took great care of me. As for Dr Kae, he is what I was looking for in a dentist. He makes you feel very relaxed, takes his time, and is awesome at dentistry. He fixed my teeth and they feel so much better! He was very thorough during his exam and I never felt rushed at all. He explained everything to me and answered all of my questions. Third dentist I've tried in West Seattle and I'm so happy I found his office. The office looks brand new and spotless, the staff doing the scheduling and receptionists were friendly and professional. Dr. Kae was very thorough in his exam and the hygenist (can't remember her name) was wonderful. I will tell everyone who is looking for a dentist in our area to go see Dr. Kae. The last dentist I tried was very nice and seemed good, but his office and dental equipment was dated and I felt like I was going back in time.
