Dr. Buten is an exceptional doctor! He has been taking care of my 69 year old Mother since July and in August, he performed surgery using the da Vinci robot system at the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center. She needed to have a bladder prolapse repair, a hysterectomy, and a procedure to treat stress incontinence. My Mom is not an easy patient - she is terrified of doctors. As a result of her anxiety, she waits until things get really bad before being forced into action. She had been dealing secretly with her problem for over 6 months before she finally visited her primary care physician. She was worried that she had a large tumor protruding from her body. The exam by her primary care physician was very uncomfortable and painful so she was even more scared to have the area re-examined by a gynecological specialist, especially a male specialist. She was thoroughly amazed by how gentle Dr. Buten was and how comfortable she felt during the whole visit. Dr. Buten was able to fully examine her without causing significant pain. He provided well described surgical options and thorough post operative instructions even before surgery occurred and scheduled her surgery within a few weeks of that initial exam. In the hospital, Dr. Buten was reassuring in the pre-operative room, provided updates during and after surgery, and made sure overall that Mom's stay in the hospital was as comfortable as possible. On moving to Austin in 1999, I was faced with the challenging process of finding a gynecologist with whom I could totally place my trust and also relate to on a personal, dr./patient level. Through online research, which at the time did not reveal much more than a brief bio on the doctors, I chose Dr. Buten. The first visit proved my choice could not have been a better one and I have continued to see him for the past 13 years. Even though I live over an hour away from his Cedar Park location, I would never contemplate seeing anyone else for my gyn. care. I was referred to Dr. Jonathan Buten by Dr. Roberta Braun, my GYN for the last year (we are pretty new in the country). Of course, having another doctor referring me to him gave me total confidence. I have Endometriosis, and it was starting to affect my daily life. The tissue was wrapping my ovaries, uterus, and part of the colon, so pain has been part of my life for several years. After many hormonal treatments and minor surgeries, nothing was working for me, and the disease was stronger than anything else. However, my experience with Dr. Buten was so good, I feel that every woman in the area should know about him. I recently found out that I needed to have a hysterectomy, and my anxiety started to skyrocket from that moment forth. Fortunately, a friend of a friend recommended Dr. Buten, and he really put my mind at ease. He took his time and explained my options and what I should expect from the procedure, which really made a difference in how I felt about having the surgery. Not only does he employ the latest techniques in the field, but he really has a wonderful down to earth manner. The office staff is very friendly and efficient, and appointments run on time, which I totally appreciate. I am also very impressed with the Cedar Park Medical Center that he is affiliated with. I have been in pain all of my teenage and adult life and no one seem to have any answers except to put me on birth control or if I was on birth control to increase the potency, even though i told them I had tried and it had no effect. I had no intention of having children and was open to any treatment but they would not consider anything else for me. Because of this I have never had a GYN I liked or trusted until I met Dr. Buten. Dr. Buten saw what my issues were and recognized my intelligence and ability to make my own decisions about my body. He offered several levels of appropriate treatment for my issues and gave me their possibilities of success in percentages as well as their affect on me from least to most extreme. I had escaping private parts: a prolapsed uterus and bladder. I had to get up frequently at night to go to the bathroom. The sense of urgency was with me both day and night. I frequently had to run to get to the bathroom to avoid accidents. Worst of all, I have suffered for years with frequent UTIs. Prior to the surgery I had had a persistent UTI for three months and had undergone five rounds of antibiotics. The surgery itself was pain-free and extremely effective. Dr. Buten not only lifted my escaping parts but tightened up my bladder so that there is now no sense of urgency, no running, and no accidents. I often go through the entire night without having to get up. Added to that, Dr. Buten is extremely personable and caring, takes time to get to know his patients as individuals,has broad interests, and is a great conversationalist. Dr. Buten was recommended to me by my primary physician. My regular gynecologist told me I had something called fibroids. I didn't really know what that was. I did know something wasn't right. I felt a little brushed off, and decided to get a second opinion by Dr. Buten. My world has changed! Dr. Buten is very down to earth and took his time in answering any questions I had. Went to Dr. Buten on strong recommendation from my doctor's PA. Endometriosis, symptoms getting worse. Decided to do the hysterectomy. Frankly, I was terrified- but Dr. Buten was thorough in explaining everything, compassionate, and told me to read the materials and take my time deciding. The procedure went smoothly, and the recovery was just as Dr. Buten explained. Also, his staff is phenomenal. From Starr, was handles the appointments, to Stephanie the nurse assistant. Even Joelle- who helped get my medical leave paperwork processed- was incredibly efficient. I was very impressed with his many years of experience and his "bedside manner" as well as with his entire office staff. Dr Buten performed a tumor removal and a full hysterectomy. Dr Buten explained the process and procedure. He tried to be sure we understood everything that was going to go on. I was concerned about scars and he kept the cuts as small as he possibly could, considering the size of the tumor. The pain was less than I expected it to be. Dr Buten did a wonderful job of managing my pain. Dr Buten and the hospital kept my family apprised of progress during surgery and visited after the surgery each day I was in the hospital.
