I reached out to the salon owner, Estelle Bouras, an award winning entrepreneur, who explained that each stylist in her salon is an independent contractor. This review should not reflect on the salon as a whole, only on the stylist, Irena Goldstein. Irena cut my hair once before and did a great job. So I went back for a second time recently and NEVER AGAIN! After bragging that she had 30 years of experience, she couldn't get the line straight in a simple, one length, blunt cut on my long hair. I had asked her to cut less than an inch because I am continuing to grow it out. Between multiple attempts to even the line, first cutting one side, then the other, over two appointments in two days, she cut off more than 2 inches and it's still not symmetrical. That's 4 months of growing time! And she charged more than I have ever paid for a one length haircut. And during this process she wasn't listening! I couldn't get a word in edgewise. Her constant gabbing, talking over me, explanations, justifications for herself, useless apologies about what she didn't intend, did nothing to fix the problem. I finally put an end to this horrible experience and walked out. No matter how much you brag about your "experience" as a haircutter, you're no better than your last haircut and the way you made the client feel. Once the hair is cut off you can't put it back. The stylist can walk away, but the client has to live with it. I felt terrible when I left the salon. That's what I will remember until I can rectify the problem in 4 months, using someone else. I've been avoiding writing a review about this salon because I had a great experience the first few times I was in. Unfortunately, what happened to me last week was so awful and has caused me so much pain and discomfort, I can't ignore the situation any longer. Last Wednesday, I had an appointment to have my hair colored with Claire. When I came in to the salon, she was in discomfort from just having a tooth pulled. I asked if I should come back another day which would be no problem. She said no, she was ok and could color my hair. I asked her two additional times if she'd like to reschedule. Both times she said no- that she was ok. She starts coloring my hair and sets a timer for 35 min. She tells me she'll check me hair then and that we can leave it on an extra 10 minutes (total of 45 max minutes) if needed. The then goes to the back room of the salon and I never see her again. After 35 minutes, the alarm goes off and she's nowhere to be found. 10 minutes later a shop assistant comes up to me and pulls through the rest of the dye in my hair. I ask her if Claire was going to check the color. She ignores me. I tell her that my hair needs to be washed since it's now been 45 minutes. She says she'll check. She never does. No one comes to check the color. No one comes period. After 75 minutes my head is on fire. I finally seek out the assistant and tell her she needs to wash my hair ASAP. She says she'll get to it soon. I ask for Claire. She says Claire is in the back because she isn't feeling well. I ask the receptionist to wash my hair. The receptionist responds "Sorry hon, wish I could help but I don't do hair." I finally get the my hair washed after raising my voice. My head is burning. I'm furious. The dye was in my hair for twice the time is should have been on. I now have chemical burns on my head and sores. I'm so uncomfortable and this is now 7 days after the fact. No one said a damn word about why Claire was at work to begin with. Or why I gave her three outs to reschedule and she refused. I walked out of her salon and that was that. Claire never called to apologize. The receptionist never called. The owner of the salon never called. Who knows how long these sites on my scalp will last. My hair color is awful and I can't get it fixed because I'm not putting more chemicals in my hair at this point. Shame on this salon and the people who work there. Readers- run far, far away from this place. I would wish this on my worst enemy. read more

I've been coming to Estelle for probably 15 years and have always had the best experience. I've recently been using Claire when Estelle is booked who also does a great job. I moved to Nyc a few years ago and come all the way here to get my hair done because I haven't found a place in nyc that does half a good job. read more

After more than 25 years of waxing away annoying facial hair, I decided it was time to find another solution. I'd heard about threading, but couldn't find a nearby salon that offered the service. Then I discovered that Jon Kailey Salon had a threading specialist on staff, and have just had my second appointment with Maheen. She's wonderful! Quick, thorough, friendly . . . just delightful. I went in for a quick brow & lip touch up, and ended up having my entire face threaded. My skin is so smooth, and the breakout she predicted might come as a result? NEVER HAPPENED! My skin actually seems to be clearer as a result. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. I'd been told threading is much better for your skin, and I believe it. I wouldn't have everything threaded (and it is not recommended for more delicate areas), but will never go back to waxing for facial care. She made sure she understood exactly what I wanted. She used the perfect products for my hair texture and gave me great styling tips! This salon tries to appear more high end than it really is. Stylist "Liz" was 10 min late getting started. She sat me down and asked me if I wanted to wash my hair first or later. Huh?? Then she sends me to get my hair washed where my shampooer is already backed up by two customers. Liz figures this out 5 minutes later and grudgingly does it herself after being told. I almost walked out that the point. She did try to carry on polite and friendly conversation, so points for that. But the cut (which is the only reason I'm there to being with) was not skillfully done and way shorter on the sides than I asked for. After the cut, she didn't even style it the way I asked. At the end of the cut, she tells me she is going to put on this paste that doesn't make my hair look wet. It was sopping wet when I left and not even styled the way I had asked for. No blow dry either. I am not trying to taint her reputation, I just hope that she'll put a little more care, thought, and attention into her job next time . impossible to park.. they do a good job with a haircut no complaints.. my major complaint is that they don't seem to care about customer service.. wilmette will only let you park in their downtown for 2 hours and if you move your car they will still give you a ticket. (which i got and they basically laughed at me for it..even after i asked them if it was ok if i parked on the street,, they said ..no one ever gets a ticket) I did! ($35) anyway.. you have to park in the train lot or 4 hour parking if you plan to be there for a while if you are getting multiple services you can be there for more than 2 hours.. by the way , they have employee parking in back.. for the employees convenience. they don't seem to care if the customers are inconvenienced. I went into this salon after work one day after hearing about it from a co-worker. I walked in with no appointment set but they were more than willing to seat me and cut my hair. The stylist that cut my hair was Jennifer and it was a very pleasant experience and she set me up with a new style that I enjoy very much. I would recommend this salon to everyone. read more

After reading a review on this salon I decided to try it. I got an overall color, cut and blow dry. Everything was wonderful just as I wanted it.
