I don't have much experience with Senegalese food but after trying the Thiebou Yapp here, I'm very much a fun. Super traditional vibe which adds to the homecooked comfort style of the food. The portion sizes were incredible for the price and the lamb was cooked to perfection. The spicy onions added the extra kick to really round off the flavor and the rice complemented the sharp flavors so well. Can't wait to come back the next time I'm in New York.

We started with a bag of small, cornbread-like buns that were slightly sweet and so delicious--perfect for snacking before the main dishes arrived. We also ordered two homemade drinks: the Senegal ginger drink, which had a bold kick to it, and the bouye drink, made from baobab fruit, which was creamy, slightly tangy, and refreshing. We'd never tasted anything like these. Both were unique and complemented the flavors of the food, which came out quickly. For our main dishes, we tried the Chicken Yassa, a traditional Senegalese dish of marinated chicken cooked with caramelized onions, lemon, and mustard. It had a wonderful tangy flavor with tender, flavorful chicken that literally fell off the bone. We also had the Thiebou Djen, the national dish of Senegal, which is a savory, tomato-based fish and rice dish cooked with vegetables like carrots, cabbage, and cassava. I opted for red jollof over yellow and loved the crispy parts. This dish was rich, hearty, and packed with flavor. We wanted to try the Fataya (fried fish or meat turnovers) but unfortunately, they were out. Despite that, we had more than enough food; we left feeling stuffed and still took home a large to-go container. The food came out quickly, and the staff was prompt with bringing water to the table. Overall, it was a great West African dining experience with generous portions and authentic flavors. We'll definitely be ordering their delivery!

We noticed their rating and it gave us a bit of pause, but we ultimately decided to give it a shot out of curiosity. We got there right before they were supposed to open, and we saw a staff member inside setting up around the restaurant and behind the bar. About 5 minutes after the hour, they opened the door (just a tad late), and we were their first guests. We were greeted and told we could sit wherever we wanted. There were a bunch of cats up as decor, for Halloween decor I imagine. I observed some really nice frames hanging up and a lovely mantle arrangement. And I saw a sign for happy hour that occurs on some days, we love that! Their menu has some creative cocktails, mocktails, and unusual ingredients. And of course, they have the classic veggie platters that we love to try. We got the plate for 4, picked out items, and got to work. Everything tasted fantastic, truly. We had fresh injera, and it was easy to make out what each item was. The menu advertised the beets as also having potatoes, which we immediately realized were missing -- turns out the menu needs to be updated haha, they aren't supposed to be included anymore. All this to say, we had a great time there. And there's only one thing I could add that's different here compared to other Ethiopian restaurants: the portions are definitely smaller. If I had a plate like this anywhere else, I would've been overstuffed. I wasn't still hungry though, I was satisfied. But if you have a lot of room in your stomach usually, the smaller portions may disappoint. But as for me, I'd totally return.

The drinks she made were also delicious (we got a margarita and a spicy saffron drink, but i forgot the name). The inside was beautiful, and I loved how the place was decorated. The rice was soggy, the gravy had an unpleasant taste, and the overall appearance of the food was a complete turn‑off. The portions were very small, some items were burnt, and even the cornbread portions were tiny. When I saw what they claimed was a peach cobbler, I was shocked. It looked more like a pastry stacked with peach slices straight from the can. Nothing about it looked homemade, and it was just as unappetizing as the rest of the meal.

I also got a side order of just the BBQ ribs as well and found that the portions were very generous and the price was a steal!!! The oxtails were tender and the Mac n Cheese was solid and the Cabbage also was seasoned well. Flavor wise, I am a little particular as my all-time favorite Jamaican food spot was back in Boston but this was definitely a strong contender. The BBQ ribs were on the sweeter end and were not my personal favorite. The cornbread was a bit dry but coupled with the meal it worked out once incorporated. Overall, the next time I'm back I would love to try the rest of the dishes as they have a lot of great options at a super fair price point!!! Definitely check it out!

I ordered a beef roti with buss up shot (paratha) and my boyfriend ordered a chicken roti with dhalpuri. Both came with tamarind sauce and pepper. Beef roti: I really wished that they gave me more curried potato and channa (chickpeas) instead of the gravy from the beef. Reason? The curried potato and channa was AMAZING and I wanted to enjoy more of those authentic flavors and spices, all of which the beef did not really present. The buss up shot was buttery soft and it complimented the dish just right. Chicken roti: my boyfriend enjoyed the flavors of his roti but said that the chicken, mostly chicken breast, was really dry. However, he said that the curried potato and channa (which was scarce) was delicious and like me, he hoped to have had more. I think if this could be something the restaurant took into consideration, the roti would be a hit. The curry flavors are superb but I really wished that we had more of it to give a solid review. I'd likely visit again and make my ask for more potato and channa so that I can enjoy authentic curry, which this place definitely gave!

The choices for soup that day were the corn and fish broth. The corn soup was a bit chunky for me. I decided on the bake and salt fish with spinach and pumpkin. The potential was there but was a bit bland. Next was Dahl puri with curry chicken. The curry chicken looked promising, but it was just potatoes, no Channa and a well seasoned watery gravy. I was happy the Dahl helped thicken the gravy. Yet, Like the bake and salt fish, it had potential but just didn't quite hit the mark. The tamarind balls were a dream! They were the biggest I've ever seen. I could have had them with more heat, but they were still nice to see and taste. Overall, it's a cute place with some tables in the back for resting.
