Screenshot of my google review showing the owner's public response to a review I left

I came in genuinely excited to support a queer/lesbian space, and unfortunately I left feeling the opposite. I forgot to close out my tab and the card initially got declined because I had just updated my banking info. Instead of simply re-running the card (which eventually DID go through), the bar decided to search my personal social media and DM me asking for money. Let me be very clear -- a bar tracking down a customer's Instagram profile over three drinks is not normal. In a space that's supposed to be safe, inclusive, and respectful, that level of boundary-crossing felt genuinely invasive. What's worse? They doubled down in their public reply instead of acknowledging how inappropriate it was. Rather than apologizing for searching my social media accounts and contacting me privately, they basically said "well we need people to pay their tabs." No one is arguing otherwise. But resorting to online searching and private social media messages over $60 is absolutely crossing into doxxing territory, and that should never be happening in a queer community space. The fact that they defended those actions publicly made it ten times more unsettling. Huge lack of accountability and zero awareness of how unsafe that behavior can feel to LGBTQ people, especially women. Super disappointed, and honestly alarmed that this was considered acceptable customer service

The booty wall.

Couldn't have felt even more welcome to come in if someone was literally holding my hand and guiding me! Dammit, what I'm trying to say is that it felt like home!! Feelings of community and belonging for sure present. Jolene is so humble and involved in the crowd and activities, engaging and at the same time enhancing vibes and guest experience! Thank you for being born Jolene! Hella appreciate you and your imagination. You're doing magical things. Shout out to Jose in the kitchen! Holding it down, showing off his culinary skills and importance of a clean kitchen. The tacos are delicious! Such a great price for the quality and presentation! I had no idea! And to top it off we got GRACE over here killing it behind the bar. She's handling 5 jobs with a smile and I can't take it! That's it...I'm coming back and all of yall are getting a raise from the heavens! Make a million beautiful people.

If you plan to have a Girls night out on a Friday, Jolene's bar is definitely the place to be. This was my first time at a queer/lesbian bar and I had such a fun time! The bar staff were super attentive, the dancers were entertaining, and the dance room was packed with all around good vibes. Also, say hello to the beautiful Jolene herself! I am an old colleague of hers and I was surprised she remembered me 6-7 years later. LOL! Gender inclusive environment, reasonably priced drinks, pool table, Sunday brunches, what's not to love!? Queer or not, come support this awesome woman owned establishment!

Yummmm!

Food & entertainment is amazing here. The shows they put on is amazing. They have like 5 different performers. The vibe is a total turn up. You're never bored. Food is real good as well. The owner is very nice. The setting is dark & club-like. You order by the scan menu on the table.

Oh how I wish this bar existed in South Florida. Just to be surrounded by queer people (mostly lesbians) I went by myself and everyone was very welcoming. My only slight is that the music could be less house music and more variety. But overall, a really great bar, drinks, and tacos. If I lived here, I would make this my local bar.

Been trying to get to Jolene for forever.. i lucked up and had bar sets for the show on Juneteenth.. @womanmonolopysf put the show of all show..burlesque drag.. .. amazing show from start to finish.. it was a vibe a twerked from my seat and everything.. omg I was amazed .. can't wait to come back again... my only down fall was the food .. definitely bar snacks which was fine .. I was expecting more of menu other thanks basic breakfast.. pancakes eggs and bacon.. dnt forget to add your seat number when purchasing from the app... I spilled my drink took over 20 mins to get help and I was sitting at the bar.. it's like the waitress zoned out to just making drinks and not paying attention to people sitting at the bar.. but I definitely come back

you are safe here neon sign

I have yet to experience a bar tender with a smile on their face. Does everyone hate their job? Says a lot about management.

I genuinely do not know whether this place is supposed to be a nightclub, a poorly supervised…read morebasement party, or a social experiment designed to test how much filth and bad music one person can tolerate before leaving. If you are coming here expecting a classy San Francisco night out, lower your expectations immediately. Then lower them again. The place was dirty, smelled absolutely awful, and had none of the polish you would expect from a supposedly established nightlife venue. There was no real premium bottle service experience, no impressive top shelf liquor presentation, and absolutely nothing about this place made me feel like I was somewhere upscale. And apparently personal boundaries are optional here, because I repeatedly turned around and saw people openly engaging in sexual activity. I came here to have a drink and dance, not accidentally attend an unsanitary live performance every time I looked in a different direction. The smell deserves its own paragraph. It was BAD. Not "nightclub at the end of the evening" bad. I mean the kind of smell that makes you question the ventilation system, the cleaning schedule, and every decision that brought you through the front door. I genuinely do not know how people stay inside long enough to dance without asking themselves, "What exactly am I breathing right now?" Speaking of dancing, that brings me to the DJ. What was that? The music was so painfully bad that at some point I became convinced someone was playing a prank on the entire building. Song after song, I kept waiting for the night to finally start. It never did. Whoever was controlling the music managed to take a room full of people who came out to party and create the musical atmosphere of a punishment. San Francisco has incredible nightlife. There is absolutely no reason to spend your night suffering through this. The bartender who helped me was actually very nice, so I will give him credit. He was probably the highlight of the entire experience. Security, on the other hand, was another story. The attitude and overall experience only made the place feel even more unpleasant. Between the horrible smell, questionable cleanliness, lack of an upscale bottle service experience, bizarre atmosphere, and DJ set that felt like an act of revenge against music itself, I left wondering why I had not gone literally anywhere else. If your idea of nightlife is elegance, great drinks, good music, and an environment where you can enjoy yourself without witnessing things you never asked to see, do yourself a favor and choose another venue. There are too many great places in San Francisco to voluntarily spend your night here. One star for the bartender. The rest of the place needs prayer, bleach, ventilation, and a new DJ.

Badlands is either willfully ignorant of this rampant issue or potentially complicit -_- I get that there's always been a bit of a seedy grungy vibe, but the insane amount of pickpocketing at this location is just absurd. All this security and surveillance for WHAAATTTTT PROS: - Cheap and decent drinks - Throwback music + Top 40s always - Staff are super friendly but now IDK if that's a front to lower your defenses - Security line goes pretty fast considering how packed it was CONS: - Not ventilated at all. It's HUMID and the mirrors are fogging up with steam - Need to take a photo before entry for "protection" but this is baffling considering our current administration and LGBTQ safety overall - Very grimy... I hoped they'd improve this since reopening - WELL, the glaring pickpocketing issue lol. The DJ halfheartedly mentioned to watch out for pickpockets mid-set, but by the end of the night, EVERY OTHER GROUP we passed by had someone saying something like "my phone/wallet's gone!", easily 20+ people. Meanwhile, the staff is roughly pushing everyone out with complete disregard to the panic Thankfully I'm able to replace everything with little inconvenience and wasn't too stressed in the moment, but now seeing the other reviews how this has been a regular occurrence for them for years (and targeting women/femmes also...), this is ridiculous. I went to the Sac Badlands for years and nothing like this has ever happened. If you want to risk coming here, present as male or use a phone tether I guess!

Don't be shocked if you show up on a Wednesday night after 9 and the cover is 20$, this venue hosts weekly play parties. If parties with a darkroom aren't your vibe, there are plenty of events here that are more for dancing and listening to great electronic music. Please don't come here if you aren't open minded and friendly, this is a bar for meeting new people and socializing when there's not a party happening. The bartenders here are amazing people and a personal draw for me. They have an outdoor patio that is open for daytime parties occasionally and the back is currently being renovated to create another dance floor/stage area. There wasn't any prominent signage, and I just walked in to see just a handful of customers at the bar. I got a smoothly spiky $11 Tequila Sunrise which I took with me as I walked the space (photo: https://yelp.to/J-XZJEOVHj). They were still setting up, and I was having flashbacks to the fabulous drag shows they used to hold, in particular, Trannyshack hosted by the late, great Heklina. I haven't been back here since the late 1990's-early 2000's, when I was a club kid coming up from the suburbs to party late into the night in the Folsom, SOMA, TL, Nob Hill, & Castro neighborhoods. I believe that it used to be called the Arrow Bar? And the venerable Tu Lan is still next door. Everything else around here has seriously gone downhill... open drug usage, unhoused, unstable, and just plain derelict & bizarre behavior & people going on in front of this bar. But, if you can wade through the depressing sea of inhumanity out front, the Rumpus Room is your sanctuary for good drinks, great music, cool/divy ambiance, and a crowd that just wants to have fun, drink, and party! Outside, sure it's not much. You'll have to pass by the saddest sights, but once you cross the threshold that is the front door, you are greeted by some sweet music, a long packed bar, ambient lighting, and some mighty comfortable stools. The bartenders here are friendly, social, engaging, composed, chill, and just plain nice, despite this place being super busy, crowded, and on the verge of being overwhelmed. The music being played here is probably better than the concert that I'm about to attend. Always cutting edge, sometimes metal, sometimes electronica, sometimes indy, always on point. The bar itself is clean, comfortable, cozy, and a great place to pre-game before heading to a concert. They even post showtimes & tell you who is going on & when at the Warfield, so you can time your drinking according to when you want to leave to see your favorite bands. The drinks here are great. The list is extensive & awesome. All of my favorites of beers, ciders, IPA's, hazys, seltzers, lagers, stouts, ales, and booze. I tried their house Mule, and now I'm addicted. It is pre-made and poured from a tap, but it is so delicious. I usually end up having 3-4. Their other cocktails like the Paloma, Old Fashioned, It'll Do, and Whiskey Smash are all amazing too. I could drink here all night, but I'm in town to see a show, so parting is bittersweet & hard to do. The bartenders, bar backs, and even fellow drinkers are all amazing here. Everyone is here to have fun, is super nice, and downright chill. The space is clean, it's roomy, there's even an upstairs, and the bathroom isn't as noxious as most dive bars can be. Love this bar, will be back every time we come to the area for music, arts, entertainment, or amusement. No excuse needed to head to Rumpus Room before going anywhere else around mid-Market, this place is amazing, fun, safe, and satisfying. Get your drink on here before doing anything else around SF.
