I've been using them to hem my pants for at least 15 years. Always consistent and reliable. Great to have them in the neighborhood.

Bare Boulder Design & Repair - Zippers galore

Bare Boulder Design & Repair

(17 reviews)

When my husband's favorite tent needed the elastic cord in its poles replaced, we checked online…read morewith the manufacturer. It could be done by mail shipping to and from Steamboat Springs, CO. They would check it, send an estimate and with acceptance repair and ship it back. That seemed unnecessarily complicated from a place like Boulder, home of many outdoor gear companies and repair support. We stopped in to the place we had purchased it, our REI store being incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of such repairs, though they don't do any themselves. They gave us two names, Bare Boulder being the most comprehensive and a 20 minute drive away, on a prominent street in Lafayette. I called, got info from the owner, Eli, about general pricing and timing. We took the bag of poles out 3 weeks ago, the estimate in person was at the low end of general approximation on the phone. We dropped it off and was told about 3 weeks as my husband had no need to camp with for at least a month. We picked it up today, ready on time and beautifully done with even higher quality cord than original. The shop is amazing, with antique sewing machine display, thousands of sizes and colors of zippers, piles of buckles and straps. It appears he can fix such parts on almost anything, luggage, jackets, backpacks, scuba BC vests, tents handbags, tote bags, recreation gear galore. We will certainly return as we wear out more and more of our gear.

Rude, disorganized, poor quality. I dropped off a leather bag to get a strap re-attached and was…read moretold I'd get a text when it's done. A month later, the text or call never came. 5 weeks later, I picked up the bag, and was sad to see the poor, sloppy craftsmanship. They didn't even use the correct color of thread. Bag was returned with scratches that weren't there before either. Poor communication, craftsmanship and attitude.

Seams to B - Picture by Half Full Photography showing off the final dress. It fit like a glove.

My experience with this seamstress way very okay-at-best…read more Pros: She comes to your house, which is very convenient. She did an okay job hemming the dress. She was very responsive to texts and communication. Cons: When I first met with her, I told her to save the extra fabric for me to keep. When I requested the fabric, she informed me that she didn't have it. No apology, no explanation, simply informed me. During our fittings, she would agree to alternations that didn't end up happening. I wasn't ultimately happy with how the bodice or the straps fit, but I didn't leave myself enough time to find someone else (that's on me). She sewed a pin into the hem of the dress, which ended up hurting one of my bridesmaids.

I booked this seamstress because she was well recommended here and in a bridal group on a social…read moremedia platform. I wish I could say that I had a positive experience, but I do feel compelled to caution other brides against using Seams to B. She had my dress for 4 months and then I requested to take it back after I could no longer trust her. This was my honest experience. The vibes were off from the beginning. Penny is very quiet - she will not be your hype woman or ask you any questions about how you are feeling in the dress as she's making changes. For fittings, she comes to your house after she's done some alterations and just stands awkwardly in the corner while you're left to your own devices. Communication about each stage of the process was severely lacking for me. Oftentimes she would verbally list off what she would do before the next fitting and then show up next time without having done what she had promised. The first few fittings I let it slide - I'd never done this before and certainly altering a wedding dress is a lot of work. Then the situation worsened. The red flags became too much to ignore when she would ask me at multiple fittings, "when are you getting married again?". It started to become very clear that Penny is not "on top of it" as a business owner in this industry should be and doesn't take any notes. She started forgetting things I had asked for with the dress - the color of the lining she sewed in was wrong (nude when I said I wanted white), the size of the cups were too big (she had put the original ones in that came with the dress when I told her I needed A cups), etc. I decided it was the last straw when I sent her an inspiration picture of how I wanted the bodice to fit me because after FIVE fittings it still wasn't right, and she basically said the dress was already fitting that way and that there wasn't really anything she could do. Considering that my breasts were drowning in too-big cups and that there was too much fabric in the bust in general, including straps that were falling down all the time, this was very discouraging. I lost all confidence in how I felt in my dress that day. Having now taken my dress to a different seamstress, I am feeling regret that I wasted so much time and money using Seams to B, as I will have to pay for them to re-do some of the work that was done poorly. On the bright side, I was reassured that this dress CAN be made to fit me in the way that I want, which is how all brides should be supported and lifted up during their alterations.
